Chapter 46: Do You Want to Be With Me?
“Butt.” Using such a cute word made Liang Yuhang feel incredibly guilty.
He started the car with a expressionless face. “I really didn’t.”
Mu Feng gave an “oh,” but he couldn’t bring himself to ask for more details, even facing Doctor Liang.
Perhaps it really was… that he had done something shameful in his dream.
“What’s wrong? Does it hurt?” Liang Yuhang asked casually, acting as if he really didn’t know what had happened.
“A bit.” Mu Feng coughed lightly. “Never mind. It doesn’t hurt that much.”
Liang Yuhang gave a laugh. You insisted on it. You reaped what you sowed.
Two cars parked one after the other at the hospital entrance. As Mu Feng stepped into the elevator, his face was so grim he didn’t look like someone visiting a patient; he looked like he was attending a funeral.
“How is it? Can you walk in three days?” He felt a surge of anger the moment he saw Liang Jingyi.
“About half a month. My dad said you have to take care of me until I’m discharged.” Liang Jingyi tilted his chin. “Help me to the toilet.”
Mu Feng: “…”
This dog… why didn’t I just stab him to death?
“So weak. Needing help just to go to the toilet.” Jiang Yu’an entered the room and immediately switched to mockery mode. “And you’re a Lieutenant Colonel? Your physical fitness is trash.”
Liang Jingyi’s expression collapsed. “Try getting stabbed yourself?”
“Sorry, I don’t do unethical things, so naturally I won’t get stabbed until my legs go weak at the toilet.” Jiang Yu’an was extremely sharp. “You deserve it.”
Liang Jingyi’s wound already hurt, and the anger made him gasp. “Mu Feng.”
“Get up.” Liang Yuhang reached out to pull him. The force wasn’t light, making the patient grimace even more. “You’re making an Omega accompany you to the toilet? Aren’t you afraid of being reported for harassment?”
Liang Jingyi stood up with difficulty, walking tremulously. “He’s going to be my wife anyway. What’s wrong with going to the toilet together?”
Mu Feng rolled his eyes hard.
Liang Yuhang was not gentle at all. He practically dragged the man, pushed him inside, and closed the door.
“Ow, ow, ow! Are you trying to kill me, big brother?”
“Hurry up. What are you dawdling for?”
“Holy shit, don’t kick me! The wound is going to tear!”
Listening to the conversation behind the door, Jiang Yu’an laughed uncontrollably, lamenting, “Aiya, comparing the two, Liang Yuhang actually looks quite pleasing to the eye.”
“He was already pleasing to the eye. Super handsome,” Mu Feng whispered.
“What did you say?” Jiang Yu’an turned his head to look at him. “I think my ears are broken.”
Mu Feng showed an innocent smile. “Nothing.”
“I feel like your demon horns are growing again.” Jiang Yu’an wrinkled his nose. “I feel like Mu-bao is getting worse and worse.”
“Your feeling isn’t wrong this time.” Lu Zhuo praised him. “You’ve grown a brain. Progress.”
Mu Feng remembered there was a smart person here and didn’t dare speak. He lowered his head and took a knife to peel an apple. “Xiao Jiang, want some?”
“Yeah.” Jiang Yu’an smacked his lips. “I was so busy checking on you I haven’t eaten breakfast.”
Mu Feng hummed and his expression softened slightly as he focused on peeling.
Liang Jingyi came out cursing, limped back to the hospital bed, and reached out to grab it. “Is it for me? Wifey.”
“Stop with the names.” Mu Feng waved the knife in his hand. “Do you believe I’ll stab you again?”
“Stab away. If I die, so be it.” Jiang Yu’an took the apple and intentionally chewed loudly. “Shameless. ‘For you’? If you’re so good at dreaming, just don’t wake up. Go dream in a grave.”
Liang Jingyi clicked his tongue. “I didn’t provoke you, did I? Get out. You’re noisy as hell.”
“I’m not leaving. What can you do to me?” Jiang Yu’an shook his head. “I’m afraid you’ll bully Mu-bao. From today on, I’m coming every day too.”
Liang Jingyi: “…”
I really can’t stand it. What kind of idiotic friends does Mu Feng have?
Liang Yuhang warned him, “Stop ordering Mu Feng around. Give you an inch and you take a mile.”
“He owes me anyway.” Liang Jingyi said quite generously. He turned to look at the person sitting by the bed. “I knew you might have a fiery personality, but I didn’t expect it to be this fierce. Fine. Consider it our first round of ‘breaking in.’ When I’m discharged, we’ll get engaged.”
“How many times do I have to say it?” Mu Feng suppressed his temper. “I will not marry you. Not unless I die.”
“Why?” Liang Jingyi frowned. “I’ve already taken a liking to you, and you’re still being picky.”
Jiang Yu’an almost wanted to laugh. “Wow. I’ve never seen such a thick-skinned person. Someone like you… if you were a host at a nightclub, nobody would pick you.”
“Can you please leave? I’m annoyed just looking at you.” Fuming with anger, Liang Jingyi pressed the call bell. “Nurse! Why are you letting just anyone in? Kick them out.”
Jiang Yu’an really wanted to hit someone.
But before he could reach out, he was held back by Lu Zhuo, who pulled him into his arms. “Don’t cause trouble for Mu Feng.”
With just that one sentence, Jiang Yu’an’s fire was instantly extinguished, and he became quiet immediately.
Mu Feng gave him a look and said softly, “You guys go back first. Don’t stay here and get sick from anger.”
“Exactly. An eyesore.” Liang Jingyi said coldly.
Lu Zhuo patted Jiang Yu’an, signaling him to leave, and said in a low voice, “It’s just for a few days. Mu Feng might have to suffer a bit of grievance, otherwise if things get out of hand, his record won’t look good.”
“So annoying! I’m really frustrated to death!” While Jiang Yu’an bristled, he walked out angrily, almost slamming his head into the glass door.
Liang Jingyi laughed at the sight. “Dunce.”
“Don’t talk about him like that.” Mu Feng twirled the small knife in his hand, a silent threat. “I came here just because I don’t want to make things bigger. It doesn’t mean you can bully my friend.”
Liang Jingyi nodded dismissively. “Fine, I’ll listen to you. Wifey is right.”
With a grim face, Mu Feng drew a clear line. “Second, don’t call me that. I’ll say it again: I will not marry you.”
“The whole circle knows. If you don’t marry me, who will you marry?” Liang Jingyi laughed. “No one else will want you.”
Liang Yuhang just stood silently by the hospital bed, thoughtful.
He shouldn’t have stepped in, nor was it necessary.
But in just these short thirty minutes, Mu Feng had suffered endless grievances. If they really got engaged, he couldn’t imagine what kind of life the boy would lead.
“Mu Feng, come out for a moment,” Liang Yuhang said.
After listening to the annoying guy drone on for half a day, Mu Feng’s expression finally improved. He stood up immediately. “I’m going out. Don’t pull any stunts.”
Liang Jingyi watched the two of them. No matter how he looked at it, it felt off.
What exactly did his brother mean? Surely he wasn’t going to fight him for the person?
He suddenly laughed and said to himself, “That would actually be quite interesting.”
Mu Feng followed Liang Yuhang out. The two stood at the end of the corridor, silent.
Mu Feng spoke first, “Do you not want to see him? Actually, you didn’t have to accompany me. You’ve already helped me a lot.”
“Mhm. But I want to help you one more time,” Liang Yuhang said.
Mu Feng was a bit confused and looked at him. “What do you mean?”
Liang Yuhang raised a hand and tapped the area over his heart. His tone was very calm. “I had surgery here. It was replaced with a mechanical heart. It happened a few years ago.”
Mu Feng didn’t know why he was bringing this up, but whenever he recalled the Liang Yuhang of that time, his heart ached.
He had to pretend he was hearing it for the first time, looking up in shock. “A mechanical heart? Does it hurt?”
“I’ve gotten used to its presence. I don’t feel it anymore.” Liang Yuhang spoke lightly. “I meant to say… I don’t know how long I can live.”
“No, you will definitely live a long life!” Mu Feng grew anxious and argued with him. “Since the surgery was successful, there won’t be any impact.”
Looking at his worried expression, Liang Yuhang’s heart softened a bit more.
He smiled easily. “Actually, I don’t care. I just wanted to say that because I don’t know how long I have, I won’t establish a relationship or marriage with anyone. It would be too unfair to the other partner.”
Establishing a relationship only to drag the other person into a panic with an unknown ending was too cruel.
Mu Feng didn’t understand why he was suddenly saying this.
He just felt as though, unintentionally, he had already been rejected before he could even speak. There was no way back.
He felt his heart grow sour and astringent, like he had swallowed a whole lemon whole. The sourness made his teeth ache.
Mu Feng moved his lips, trying his best to appear relaxed and calm. “Mhm. You’re a misanthrope; it’s normal and understandable.”
“Do you still like that person very much?” Liang Yuhang asked.
Someone who was mentioned in countless dreams… he must like them very much.
“I do.” Mu Feng looked into his eyes, trying to keep his emotions flat. “But it’s impossible now. I’m probably like you; I won’t establish a relationship with anyone else.”
“Good. That’s good.” Liang Yuhang breathed a sigh of relief.
Actually, since last night, he had been thinking, struggling, and telling himself he should just stand by and watch.
But the way Mu Feng looked lying helplessly in the grass was exactly like Mu-mu at the hospital entrance back then—just a pair of eyes looking at him with endless grievance.
A kitten that nobody wanted. So pitiful. He felt that if he didn’t reach out, the boy would die in endless suffocation.
Since they could both guarantee an emotional divide, playing a part in a fake act wasn’t out of the question.
He spoke slowly, “The most once-and-for-all solution to this farce is for you to get engaged to someone else.”
“To Brother Lu?” Mu Feng sighed and complained, “You’re like Xiao Jiang; have you gone crazy too? Leaving aside how ridiculous that suggestion is, my dad is dead set on hitching a ride with the Liang family.”
“So it’s not Lu Zhuo.” Liang Yuhang denied his answer.
His face was silhouetted against the light, making his expression hard to read. Because of this, Mu Feng felt for a moment as if this were an illusion.
After all, he heard Liang Yuhang say something he wouldn’t have dared to imagine in this lifetime.
Unbelievable. His heart stopped.
“It’s me. Mu Feng, do you want to get engaged to me?”
