Chapter 56: Niannian, Give Your Blood to Shengsheng
“Did President Shen say why he called me here?”
Su Nian followed panting behind Qin Lou. The man in front was walking too fast; he could barely catch his breath.
“No.”
Qin Lou focused only on the path ahead, completely ignoring the person behind him. If his attitude toward others was indifference, his attitude toward Su Nian—this “third party”—was pure coldness.
“Why is President Shen at the hospital? Where has he been these past few days? Did something happen?”
Su Nian looked up at the floors circling the open atrium and couldn’t help but slow down. This was the largest hospital in Nanshi. Why would Shen Xingyu be here?
Qin Lou didn’t answer, but he couldn’t help feeling a bit worried about Shen Xingyu. The man hadn’t said anything on the phone, but the emotion in his voice hadn’t sounded right.
“What about the Young Madam? The Young Madam has been missing these past few days too. Do you know where President Shen took him?”
Su Nian continued to ask questions incessantly. He felt jealous just thinking about it. Over the last few days, Shen Xingyu must have hidden Liang Sheng away! He had worked so hard to spread the scandal, and the media had been blocking the company doors for days, yet Shen Xingyu had forced the reporters back with the cold shoulder.
“I don’t know.”
Qin Lou finally replied with irritation, his eyes still searching for the location Shen Xingyu had sent him.
“Sigh, it’s only right that President Shen took the Young Madam away to avoid the spotlight after such a shameful thing happened.”
On the surface, Su Nian sighed as if he were sympathetic, but the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curl up. Although he hadn’t managed to keep Liang Sheng exposed to public ridicule, the “Young Madam’s affair” was already an established fact.
He was so busy being self-satisfied that he didn’t notice the man in front had suddenly stopped. He crashed straight into Qin Lou’s firm back, leaving him dizzy.
“Ouch!”
He cried out in pain, clutching his forehead, and looked at Qin Lou with a grievance. “Why did you stop?”
Qin Lou turned around silently, his eyes narrowing slightly. A sharp, piercing gaze fell upon Su Nian, as if trying to see through him.
Su Nian’s heart skipped a beat. He was clearly feeling guilty, but he was certain Qin Lou knew nothing. He straightened his back, touched his cheek, and asked as if nothing were wrong:
“W-why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?”
Qin Lou indeed didn’t know anything for sure, but he had more or less guessed something. Ever since the indecent photos of Liang Sheng were leaked, various angles of the photos had appeared online. Even though the Old Master had tried to take them down immediately, they continued to spread like wildfire, popping up every day.
Furthermore, these past few days, Su Nian had been constantly shifting the conversation toward Liang Sheng when dealing with reporters. The Old Master had strictly forbidden mentioning any negative news about the Young Madam, yet Su Nian didn’t avoid the topic at all.
Ten to one, he was the one behind it.
Qin Lou made his guess internally, but he had no hard evidence. Plus, the boss had always been fond of Su Nian, so speaking up would only cause trouble.
Su Nian didn’t dare to meet his gaze, afraid of leaking some clue. Fortunately, the elevator doors opened. He lowered his head and walked in quickly, pressing the floor button. “Let’s hurry up. President Shen must be waiting!”
Qin Lou followed him into the elevator, his cold gaze sweeping over him. He didn’t speak again. The elevator was quiet; the sound of their breathing was clearly audible.
Su Nian unconsciously clenched his fists, his palms covered in sweat.
The air became unusually oppressive.
When the elevator doors opened, he immediately stepped out, secretly sighing in relief. Why did he always feel like Qin Lou was watching him?
An illusion. It must be an illusion…
Su Nian comforted himself. As he turned the corner, he saw Shen Xingyu sitting on a long bench from a distance. He broke into a smile and quickened his pace, running to the man’s side as if he were about to cry. “President Shen! How are you? Why are you at the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?”
Shen Xingyu ignored the string of questions. He raised his bloodshot eyes. His exhausted face startled Qin Lou. “President Shen, what… happened?” As he spoke, he looked toward the operating room where the red light was on, and his eyes grew frantic. “Where is the Young Madam? Could it be…”
“There’s no time to explain.”
Shen Xingyu rubbed his face, forcing himself to stay alert. He grabbed Su Nian’s hand. “Niannian, come with me to the transfusion room.”
Confused, Su Nian twitched the corner of his mouth. “Why are we going to the transfusion room? I’m scared of those places…”
“Shengsheng lost too much blood, and he has Rh-negative blood. The hospital doesn’t have any. I remember you are Type O.”
At this moment, Shen Xingyu’s eyes were full of anxiety for Liang Sheng. He didn’t care to ask if Su Nian was willing.
Hearing that the man wanted to use his blood to save the person he hated, Su Nian pulled his hand back with extreme reluctance.
Shen Xingyu was stunned. He turned around and looked at him, confused. “Niannian, you…”
Even though he was furious and dissatisfied inside, Su Nian didn’t dare show it. He looked at the man with teary eyes, like a fragile little white flower. His voice was also weak:
“Pres… President Shen, if you want me to save the Young Madam, I naturally wouldn’t hesitate. But… but President Shen, have you forgotten? I have severe anemia. I’ll faint if I’m forced to give blood…”
Looking at those pitiful eyes, Shen Xingyu actually felt a moment of pity. But thinking of his little wife in the emergency room who could die at any moment, he ultimately wasn’t defeated by Su Nian’s fragility. Instead, he said heartlessly:
“You won’t. I’ll have the doctor give you a nutrient IV. Right now, Shengsheng’s situation is critical. If you still want to be my secretary, then listen to me.”
Those words left Su Nian speechless. He hadn’t expected that after not seeing him for a few days, this man—who had always favored him and protected him—would suddenly become so cruel and ruthless!
Didn’t he hate Liang Sheng? Since he hated him, wouldn’t it be better if Liang Sheng died? Why did he have to give blood to save him?
He already said he had anemia!
“You are the most obedient, aren’t you?”
Shen Xingyu took his hand again. His voice was gentle, but his eyes were extremely cold, devoid of their former affection.
Su Nian’s hand trembled. He never thought the day would come when his proud identity as a secretary would become a shackle used to threaten him.
“Yes… Yes! Niannian is the most obedient…”
He grit his teeth and could only compromise.
He didn’t want to leave Shen Xingyu. He loved Shen Xingyu so much. Without Shen Xingyu, he wouldn’t be who he was today.
What was a mere blood transfusion?
Su Nian raised his tearful eyes to the man. Beneath that fragile layer of tears was a vicious and poisonous gaze. He would make Shen Xingyu realize that he was the one who loved him most!
Eager to save Liang Sheng, Shen Xingyu didn’t care about his pitiful act and pulled him directly into the transfusion room.
Su Nian sat in the chair and extended his arm. Although he had told himself not to be afraid, seeing the nurse take out a collection needle to prick his hand, he still pulled back in fear.
He was most afraid of pain, and most afraid of blood.
“President Shen…”
Su Nian looked up at the man, shivering, desperately hoping the other would change his mind and not make him go through with it.
“Niannian, be good.”
It was another light command. Shen Xingyu offered no comfort. He was truly in a hurry.
He had been patient enough with Su Nian!
Su Nian didn’t dare to disobey. He could only obediently put his arm back, biting his lip and closing his eyes in grievance.
A sharp pain came. He could only endure it, opening his eyes slightly to peek at Shen Xingyu, wanting to see if the man felt bad for him. But surprisingly, he didn’t.
Shen Xingyu was staring intently at the blood bag. He didn’t even ask how he was feeling. It was as if that blood was the most important and precious thing.
Previously, if he even sneezed or had a small cold, Shen Xingyu would be incredibly worried. He would carry him from the clinic to the eighth floor in the middle of the night, stay with him during the IV, and watch over him at his bedside all night without sleeping.
Why… had he become so cold-blooded now?
Su Nian wanted to cry. He had risked everything to frame Liang Sheng so that Shen Xingyu would completely loathe his husband. But now, it seemed Liang Sheng was more important than him… He wasn’t reconciled!
Even though they had quickly found a donor, Shen Xingyu still felt uneasy.
Shengsheng, you must hold on…
In the hours since Liang Sheng had entered the operating room, he didn’t know how many times he had prayed in his heart.
They had drawn a full bag of blood. Just as the nurse was about to pull the needle out, Shen Xingyu suddenly spoke to stop her:
“Draw some more. I’m afraid it won’t be enough.”
Su Nian’s lips were turning pale. Hearing the man say this, his eyes widened in disbelief.
The nurse also immediately refused: “300 milliliters is already a lot. This gentleman said he has anemia. If we draw more, his life will be in danger.”
“Draw.”
Shen Xingyu acted as if he hadn’t heard the nurse’s warning. He spoke firmly; he only cared about Liang Sheng.
“President Shen… how—how can you do this? I’ll die! I don’t want to give any more! Waaah!“
Su Nian shook his head while crying, hugging himself tightly. He tried to stumble out, only to be pushed back onto the bed by Shen Xingyu.
Between his fear of blood and his weakness, he couldn’t get up. He could only cry until he was out of breath.
But no matter how much he played the victim, it didn’t earn a shred of mercy from the man.
Qin Lou came in and held down the struggling Su Nian.
The nurse didn’t dare continue, afraid of a lawsuit.
Shen Xingyu directly snatched the collection needle from the nurse’s hand and grabbed Su Nian’s other arm.
“Don’t be afraid. It doesn’t hurt.”
He whispered, as if coaxing a child. His gentle gaze was chilling. In the next second, the needle was thrust into Su Nian’s skin without hesitation.
“AH!!!”
Su Nian let out a blood-curdling scream, his entire face turning white. He felt as if the pain would kill him.
Despair, helplessness, heartache… he never thought the day would come when he would be overwhelmed by these emotions too.
Shen Xingyu drew another 200 milliliters before he was willing to stop.
He carefully sealed the blood bag and handed it to the nurse, who was shivering in fear beside him. “Give the blood to the lead surgeon. Hurry.”
“O-okay!”
The nurse took the blood bag and ran out.
Su Nian also fainted.
“Take good care of him. When he wakes up, give him some supplements. Nourish him well for me; Shengsheng still needs his blood.”
Shen Xingyu gave the order indifferently, a crazy, half-smiling look in his eyes. Then he turned and left.
Qin Lou was left dumbfounded.
