Chapter 96: Ning Ke Breaks the Seal
Jiu Yuan bathed in that green light, feeling a surging force of life.
He sighed softly: Tiandao, you made the right choice this time. This mother and son are the final hope of this world.
With that thought, he bit down on his tobacco pipe and performed a hand seal. In the next instant, his body expanded by several yards.
He revealed his true form as a Nine-Tailed Fox. His terrifying Yaoli was unleashed in full, tearing through the very fabric of space.
Nine tails whipped out, coiling around Nan Lou and the other Great Mo. With sounds like sonic booms, he hurled them several miles away into an open wasteland.
“Lou Yunxiao, we shall fight far from Aké River City. This place will be guarded by my fox cubs and the human cultivators; it won’t fall.”
Lou Yunxiao had the same intention. He nodded, divine swords in hand, and streaked toward the distant sky to intercept the Great Mo.
As their figures vanished, the earth continued to tremble, and the sky echoed with constant sonic booms.
It was clear how fierce the battle was.
Back in Aké River City, the Mo creatures and living dead that had been hiding among the crowds began to run rampant. A-You directed the fox clan to save people, while the human cultivators, knowing they couldn’t help Lou Yunxiao, flew down from mid-air to slay the low-tier Mo and rescue the citizens.
A-Li arrived at the courtyard in the south of the city, reaching Ning Ke’s side.
“Holy Son, it’s dangerous here. Let me take you away—”
He was halfway through his sentence when Ning Ke suddenly grabbed his sleeve.
Ning Ke pointed to the flame-patterned seal between his brows and asked, “A-Li, do you know any way to break this seal?”
A-Li froze, immediately understanding his meaning.
Ning Ke wanted to unseal his cultivation prematurely. This was a direct violation of the natural birth rules of a Nine-Tailed Fox.
Even if it could temporarily boost his cultivation, it would leave behind incurable damage in the future. It was a major taboo.
“I can tell by your expression that you have a way.” Ning Ke gripped A-Li’s clothes tighter. “A-Li, this is my own choice. I cannot watch the people important to me fight while I do nothing.”
“Holy Son…” A-Li’s eyes reddened. “Even if you completely break the seal, you can only maintain your Nine-Tailed Fox form for a single day. Once that day passes, you will be reverted to your original form, and everything will have to start over from scratch. You won’t even have the ability to protect yourself. If your injuries are too severe…”
“It doesn’t matter,” Ning Ke interrupted him, his resolve unshakable.
The Tiandao had given Lou Yunxiao divine swords; what was given to him were the Mo-Sealing Talismans and the Tiandao Array.
Therefore, he believed that this final step—unsealing himself—was the true reason he had come to ten thousand years in the past.
Just as he finished that thought, the system mission was issued almost simultaneously.
[Main Mission Issued: Erect the stone monuments and set the Tiandao Array to suppress the Great Mo. Upon completion, plot repair will reach 60%.]
“Fine.” A-Li knew his mind was made up. He summoned an auspicious cloud, helped the battered Ning Ke onto it, and said, “Holy Son, I will take you back to Qingqiu immediately to help you break the seal.”
…
It didn’t take the two of them long to reach Qingqiu.
A-Li led Ning Ke to the back mountains, where the Yaoli pool Ning Ke had used before was located.
A-Li performed a hand seal, chanting under his breath, then slammed a fist into the edge of the pool.
BOOM—
The pool collapsed, but the water surged toward the heavens. Upon closer inspection, one could see that every single drop of water was condensed from the most concentrated Yaoli.
A-Li said worriedly, “Holy Son, breaking the seal is a complete rebirth. Your body will have to endure the agony of being burst apart by the surging Yaoli over and over again. If you can’t hold on, you must call for me. I will stop the pool immediately.”
Ning Ke nodded.
His eyes were as calm as still water.
So what if it was painful? This was his cross to bear.
As he stepped into the water, the agony of his meridians and bones shattering made Ning Ke grit his teeth. Blood began to seep from his nose and mouth.
He sat cross-legged within the pillar of water.
He closed his eyes.
He didn’t make a single sound.
Only one thought remained in his mind.
Become stronger.
Complete the task I must do.
…
After the war in Aké River City broke out, riots also erupted in several other cities occupied by the Mo who were ranching humans.
Cultivators and Yao from all overined the battlefield. Although they were outnumbered by the Mo, they fought back with everything they had in a final struggle.
For ten whole days, the fires of war raged.
The world shook, and a constant, gloomy rain fell.
The ground near Aké River City sank due to the intensity of the battle. The sky looked as though a hole had been punched through it, filled with lightning, thunder, and intersecting spatial cracks. Any trees swept up into them were instantly shredded to dust.
Low-level cultivators didn’t dare interfere in a war between a dozen or so Dujie stage experts. They could only watch from afar, praying for Lou Yunxiao and Jiu Yuan’s victory.
But they didn’t know that the people they were relying on were already at the end of their ropes.
Lou Yunxiao used his sword to prop himself up. His chest and abdomen had been pierced by Nan Lou once. Around the jagged, bloody wound, Mo energy was festering, constantly eroding his will.
His shoulders, waist, legs, and arms—every part of him was covered in wounds. Blood had long since stained his white robes a gruesome crimson.
Thump—
The Nine-Tailed Fox that Jiu Yuan had transformed into slammed heavily into the ground. Seven of his nine tails had become semi-transparent, signaling that his life force was nearly depleted.
Nan Lou’s figure swayed as he landed on the ground. Within his line of sight, the twelve Great Mo were either reduced to piles of meat or had been decapitated. Their limbs were severed, and they were struggling to reform, but because of the Folian Lamp’s restriction, their speed was agonizingly slow.
“I never imagined I’d be pushed to such a degree by you two inferior races!”
Nan Lou’s expression was hideous, but he wasn’t panicking.
His gaze was as malicious as ever. He curled his lips into a smirk and said, “I acknowledge your strength, but the victor can only be me!”
With that, he reached out and grabbed the head of a nearby Great Mo, devouring it—bone and flesh—into his stomach!
“Since you’re all such useless trash, you might as well go into my belly and become part of me!”
Accompanied by the screams of the Great Mo, Nan Lou quickly devoured all the severed limbs and remains on the ground.
At the same time, his strength returned to its peak, and all his injuries were healed!
Surging Mo energy shrouded the entire area, nearly overwhelming the light of the Folian Lamp, which had weakened due to Lou Yunxiao’s fading strength.
Nan Lou licked his lips, his face full of greed and cruelty. “I must say, you’ve successfully pissed me off. Today, I’m going to make you taste absolute despair before I eat you piece by piece…”
“Despair?” Lou Yunxiao looked up. In his eyes were hatred, fury, and a surging battle intent—but there was no despair.
He let out a cold laugh and stomped his back foot. The Breath of Heaven on his twin swords enveloped his entire body.
In an instant, the pouring rain turned into countless ice needles, shooting toward Nan Lou.
Under the cover of the ice needles, Lou Yunxiao charged. His sharp, upright sword intent seemed capable of severing all evil as he clashed with Nan Lou’s demonized hands!
Nan Lou’s pupils constricted. “How do you still have this much power?”
He felt the Breath of Heaven on the blades. “That old bastard Tiandao didn’t just change your swords; he changed your very constitution…”
Seeing Nan Lou’s arms suppressed by the Breath of Heaven, Lou Yunxiao struck again with a flurry of slashes, severing the man’s right hand. Just as he was about to press his advantage, he suddenly heard Jiu Yuan’s shout: “Lou Yunxiao, watch your back!”
