Chapter 95: A-Ke, Iâm Sorry
Following Jiu Yuan were A-You, A-Li, and several powerful fox Yao from Qingqiu.
“Fellow Daoist Lou, we have come to assist you as well!”
Suddenly, the sound of hundreds of objects piercing the air echoed from the sky.
It was the low-level cultivators from Zhongze City whom Nan Lou had previously ignored.
After realizing that the meeting in Zhongze City was nothing but a conspiracy, these cultivators did not flee in fear of the Great Mo. Instead, they spread the news and led a gathered force of cultivators who answered their call, arriving together to reinforce Aké River City.
Though they rarely spoke of it, in their hearts, they admired Lou Yunxiao and Bai Wanru more than words could say.
They knew full well that with their strength, facing a Great Mo meant certain death.
But what was the point of living so long without a shred of conviction?
Rather than dragging out a ignoble existence, it was better to take a stand. Killing even a few more Mo would make it all worthwhile.
Their arrival was like sparks of fire lighting up the long night.
It called back Lou Yunxiao’s drifting consciousness.
His eyes, which had been spiraling out of control, gradually regained their clarity. He reached out and gripped the Folian Lamp at Bai Wanru’s waist, as if drawing the courage to stand once more.
After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice rasping. “Mother, do you see? It turns out… your persistence wasn’t wrong after all.”
Jiu Yuan landed on the ground. Seeing Ning Ke covered in wounds, his heart ached uncontrollably.
He wanted to berate Lou Yunxiao for failing to keep his word, but seeing Lou Yunxiaoâs current state, the scolding died in his throat.
He took Ning Ke’s hand, steadily channeling Yaoli into his body.
As he helped repair Ning Ke’s internal core and injuries, he murmured, “You brat, why didn’t you blow the bone whistle?”
When the Great Mo attacked the city, it was the Tiandao who had sent word to Jiu Yuan. Ning Ke hadn’t touched the whistle once.
Ning Ke looked up, gazing at Jiu Yuan.
Jiu Yuan frowned.
He noticed that his younger brotherâs expression was terribly wrong.
The once bright and sunny little fox now had eyes stripped of all light. He looked as though he were carrying a crushing weight, his cheerful demeanor completely gone.
“Because I didn’t want to drag the fox clan into this too.” Ning Ke turned his head to look at the Tiandao standing nearby. Everything was clear now.
He knew that Jiu Yuanâs arrival here was a fate determined ten thousand years ago.
He feared that the lack of news regarding the fox clan ten thousand years in the future was precisely because of today’s events.
And with his current power, he was unable to change the status quo.
Or rather, everything had started because of him…
“I appreciate the sentiment,” Jiu Yuan said, patting the top of Ning Ke’s head. “However, as your elder, as the Lord of Qingqiu, and as one of this worldâs powerhouses, exterminating Mo is also my responsibility. This battle isn’t just to protect youâit’s to protect the fox clan itself.”
After a pause, he gently pulled Ning Ke into an embrace and said, “A-Ke, Iâm your brother. Itâs okay to rely on me a little more. Do you understand?”
Ning Keâs pupils trembled. He abruptly gripped the hem of his clothes, clenching his back teeth.
Only after a long while did he finally nod.
Jiu Yuan patted Ning Keâs back and stood up, holding his tobacco pipe. He cast a downward glance at Lou Yunxiao beside him.
“Kid surnamed Lou, if you’re a man, stand up and face the enemy. Don’t make me look down on you.”
Lou Yunxiao had already composed his emotions.
He laid Bai Wanru flat on the ground, smoothed out the womanâs clothes, and tucked the Folian Lamp into his own belt.
Then he turned around, his gaze colliding with Ning Keâs.
His pupils reflected Ning Keâs battered and bruised figure.
“A-Ke, Iâm sorry.”
With a quick thought, he realized Ning Keâs injuries were sustained while protecting Bai Wanru. At the most critical moment for the two of them, he hadn’t been there.
This was his greatest failure.
But now, he had no wayâand perhaps no further chanceâto make up for that failure.
He said only that single sentence. After giving Ning Ke one last deep look, he turned to stand side-by-side with Jiu Yuan.
“Kid, you’ve got some backbone after all.” Jiu Yuanâs gaze fell on the Tiandao who walked up to them. He said to Lou Yunxiao, “In todayâs battle, we are not without a chance of victory.”
He pointed to the long swords Lou Yunxiao carried on his back. “Draw your twin swords.”
Lou Yunxiao did as he was told, only to see the old man suddenly grab the tip of his blade and plunge it into his own body!
“Old Sir!”
He cried out in shock, but Jiu Yuanâs expression remained calm. “What ‘Old Sir’? He is the Tiandao.”
“He is using his final essence to infuse your blades with the Breath of Heaven.”
“This is our only chance at victory.”
Lou Yunxiao had calmed down, and he recalled the argument between Ning Ke and the old man earlier.
He seemed to have vaguely heard the term ‘Tiandao.’
As the twin swords drank the old manâs blood, they suddenly erupted with divine light.
One sword shone bright silver, the other a brilliant crimson.
The old manâs body gradually withered, dissipating into dust, leaving behind only a final sigh.
“I leave it… to you…”
Lou Yunxiao stood in a daze.
On the other side, Nan Lou looked at Lou Yunxiaoâs swords and let out a sneer. “You don’t seriously think those two toothpicks you poked into an old man can threaten me, do you? Don’t you find it hilarious?”
He looked toward Jiu Yuan. “You must be that Nine-Tailed Fox. I was planning to head to Qingqiu after wiping out AkĂ© River City to slaughter a few foxes for a fur coat. Now that you’ve delivered yourself to my door, it saves me the trip.”
Jiu Yuan exhaled a smoke ring. “Itâs hard to say who will be doing the slaughtering.”
“Two against eleven. Where do you think your chance of victory lies?” Nan Lou paused suddenly. “Oh, I miscounted. It should be two against thirteen.”
“First, Second! How much longer do you plan on lying on the ground?!”
As he spoke, Ning Ke froze. Immediately, he saw the two piles of mangled meat on the ground begin to fuse together, eventually reforming into the shapes of Nan Yi and Nan Er.
Though their auras were greatly diminished, they were still alive.
They flew back to Nan Louâs side. “My Lord, you can’t blame us. That dead woman was too strong. If we hadn’t secretly absorbed the flesh and blood of those living dead just now, we would have been buried in that broken courtyard.”
“Why…” Ning Keâs hands clenched into fists, his emotions nearing a breaking point. “Why are you still not dead!”
Auntie Bai had sacrificed her life to take down two Great Mo, yet they were still alive.
Ning Ke gnashed his teeth in pure hatred.
“Didn’t I tell you?” Nan Yi said. “We Mo are immortal and indestructible. You inferior races simplyâ”
Before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly felt something was wrong.
He wanted to raise his hand, but he couldn’t move. Only then did he realize his head had been separated from his body.
In the next instant, the person who had severed his head was already right in front of him.
Pale silver and crimson clouds crossed in a slashing motion, moving at extreme speed.
In an instant, flesh and blood flew everywhere.
Before Nan Yi could even scream, his head exploded into a mist of blood that rained down upon the ground.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye. Lou Yunxiao didn’t say a word; he simply charged toward Nan Lou and the remaining Great Mo with his twin swords in hand.
His eyes were filled with nothing but cold, murderous intent.
At the same time, the Folian Lamp erupted with brilliant light, shrouding Jiu Yuan, Lou Yunxiao, and the Great Mo within its glow.
It formed a unique domain space.
The Great Mo suddenly felt as if they were sinking into thick mud, their cultivation levels being suppressed.
“How has the Folian Lamp not been destroyed yet?!” Nan Lou finally realized the gravity of the situation. He glared at Nan Er. “I give you such a simple task and you can’t even get it right. What use are you?!”
“Quite the ‘immortal and indestructible’ bunch…” Lou Yunxiao held his twin swords, his white robes stained with blood like an Asura from hell. “Every time you resurrect, I will kill you again. I will kill you until nothing remains but scraps of flesh and hair, then I will seal you away, never to rise again for all eternity!”
