Chapter 103: Pheromone Gene Modification
“Just because I wasn’t a Top Alpha, he wanted to leave me,” Shao Mingjue said slowly, as if his soul had been pulled away.
Ye Zhile looked confused. “What else? My Papa is an Omega; without pheromone soothing, he would have lost half his life. Was he supposed to gamble his life on you? Besides, you aren’t worth it…”
Shao Mingjue’s gaze toward him was firm. He said excitedly, “That’s why I modified pheromones! As long as I am a Top Alpha, he can have pheromone soothing! He won’t have to suffer anymore!”
“You’re just shameless! You’ve harmed so many people for your own selfish desires!” Ye Zhile was righteously indignant.
“Selfish desires? You’re too naive. Who doesn’t want to become a Top Alpha or an Enigma? They’re very happy!” Shao Mingjue gave a cold ‘hmph,’ holding the small vial in his hand. “This thing can make modified Enigma pheromones even purer.”
“You kidnapped me just to get this?” Ye Zhile thought the man was truly insane. However, Shao Mingjue shook his head. “No, no, no, of course not. This is just a gift you gave me.”
Shao Mingjue patted Shao Chen’s shoulder. “This is my son, Shao Chen, also an Enigma. I believe the two of you will get along very well.”
Shao Chen avoided his hand and glanced at him expressionlessly, exposing him. “Didn’t you say you wanted to modify his pheromones? I’ve brought the person back for you. He’s a Top Omega, so it should be easier to modify, right?”
In front of Ye Zhile, the two of them discussed him as if he weren’t there. Shao Mingjue said, “But if the two of you are a match, I can choose not to modify his pheromones.”
“Why?”
“He has special privileges with me.”
“Just because he looks like your first love?” Shao Chen looked confused. Shao Mingjue was quite candid. “Why else? Why do you think I wanted you two to be together?”

“……” Ye Zhile looked at Shao Chen. “Is your father’s brain perhaps suffering from some trauma? Is he mentally unstable?”
“It’s possible.” Shao Chen agreed with Ye Zhile’s words. He reminded Shao Mingjue, “He has an Enigma.”
“So what?” Shao Mingjue looked disdainful. “That Enigma isn’t worthy of him. Enigmas are all cold-blooded animals. Look at the things he did! It’s only right they got divorced, okay?!”
Ye Zhile paused, his heart feeling as if it had been stung for some reason. He then glared at Shao Mingjue. “Why are you spying on other people’s privacy?”
Shao Mingjue smiled. He approached Ye Zhile, who instinctively backed away. “What are you doing?”
“Do you want to undergo pheromone modification? Even though you’re a Top Omega, if you want Top Enigma pheromones, I can help.” A trace of madness flickered in Shao Mingjue’s eyes. “Think about it. Those Enigmas can come and go freely, so powerful that no one can match them—just like my son.”
Ye Zhile looked at Shao Chen, who avoided his gaze. He always had an icy face, and his entire person, including his eyes, showed no emotion. He was like Shao Mingjue’s test subject, modified to the point of numbness.
Ye Zhile felt a bit of sadness. He looked at Shao Mingjue. “You want to modify a Top Omega?”
“Yes, if you’re willing.” Shao Mingjue returned to normal at this moment. “Don’t worry, I won’t force you. It’s just that I’ve modified low-level Omegas and Alphas, but I haven’t modified a Top one yet. But you can trust my skills—my son was a Beta, yet I modified him into an Enigma. Impressive, right?”

Ye Zhile cursed him in his mind. He was silent for a moment before suddenly remembering someone. “I want to see my friend. You kidnapped her.”
“Oh?” Shao Mingjue didn’t understand and asked Shao Chen, “Do you know who his friend is?”
Shao Chen said coldly, “The one named Shen Tingyuan?”
“Yes.” Ye Zhile nodded.
“Chen-er, take him to find his friend.” Shao Mingjue waved his hand, even adding, “Get along well.”
Ye Zhile no longer found Shao Mingjue’s words funny. The man was an incoherent madman who would say anything.
Leaving the laboratory, Shao Chen took him to the cabins. Countless cabins formed a circle with a large open space in the middle. The people in the cabins were lifeless, with only the machine tests showing they were still alive.
“He’s a madman.” Shao Chen suddenly spoke beside him. He looked at Ye Zhile. “When they find this place, I will help you leave.”
Ye Zhile looked at him in shock. “Why?”
“I have a request.” Shao Chen lowered his eyes. “When Minister Ye and the Leader find this place, please have them bring troops to rescue my mother.”
“What happened to your mother?” Ye Zhile noticed the scar on the back of his neck. “Was this left after the modification?”
Shao Chen nodded. “My mother has been locked away by him.”
Shao Chen was clearly very tall, with hard and sharp features. The first time Ye Zhile saw him, he thought he was fierce, but now he saw helplessness and dejection in him.
Ye Zhile didn’t speak. He looked at the people in the cabins, feeling a surge of fear—until he saw someone familiar. He stopped, looking inside in surprise. “Why is he in there?”
The person inside was none other than the long-vanished Ruan Chenxin. Ye Zhile hadn’t asked Ji Shuohan where he had sent him; he thought Ruan Chenxin had at most been sent back to his own home. He hadn’t expected to see him again in such an unexpected place.
Shao Chen looked over and said coldly, “He wanted to be modified into a Top Omega, but… he’s dying.”
“Why?” Ye Zhile was shocked. “Did your father fail?”
“No,” Shao Chen said. “He was too eager for success and took an overdose. His body reached its limit and couldn’t take it. He only has a few days left to live.”
Seeing Ye Zhile staring at him, Shao Chen reminded him, “Let’s go. Your friend is just ahead.”
Ye Zhile gave one last look before walking away. He asked, “Why did he find this place?”
“He didn’t find this place; my father sought him out,” Shao Chen said.
Shao Chen took Ye Zhile to the front of Shen Tingyuan’s cabin. Ye Zhile looked at the Omega lying inside and asked, “How can she wake up? Can I go in and see her?”
“She hasn’t been modified; they only extracted pheromone fluid, so her body is just weak.” Shao Chen pressed a button on the cabin door, and the door slid open. Ye Zhile entered.
Shen Tingyuan was pale and very weak. Ye Zhile tried calling her, “Miss Shen? Miss Shen!”
Shen Tingyuan slowly opened her eyes. She looked at Ye Zhile in surprise, then her surprise turned to terror when she saw Shao Chen. She grabbed Ye Zhile’s hand. “S-Save me!”
Ye Zhile helped her sit up and asked Shao Chen, “Can you let us out? I promise I will save your mother!”
