Chapter 106: I Forgive You
“Lele is gone?” Ye Zhijin was inevitably startled upon hearing Ji Shuohan’s words.
“Where is Lele?” Having dealt with the people outside, Ye Junting and Wen Yumiao entered. Wen Yumiao looked at the surrounding cabins; people were being rescued from inside one after another, but he didn’t see Ye Zhile.
“It seems that among Ye Junting’s three sons, only Ye Zhile is cute.” Shao Mingjue stood on high ground, looking down at the people who were like ants in a mess. Finally, his gaze fixed on Wen Yumiao, his expression in a daze. “Yumiao…”
“Where have you hidden Lele?” Wen Yumiao had no nostalgia for him; his gaze was like looking at a stagnant pool of water.
Shao Mingjue was provoked by his gaze. “Your attitude toward me is just like before. Do you look down on me that much?”
Wen Yumiao gave a cold laugh. “What about you is there to look up to?”
Selfish and greedy, vain and competitive, and heartless enough to treat human lives like grass—what about him was worthy of respect?
“Good, very good!” A trace of madness flashed in Shao Mingjue’s eyes. “I’m not getting out of here alive today anyway, so we might as well all be buried together.”
With that, Shao Mingjue clapped twice. In an instant, a group of people in black appeared out of nowhere. They were as rigid as robots, yet they were all Enigmas modified by Shao Mingjue.
For a short time, their power was no different from a normal Enigma, and their speed and reaction ability were beyond what an average person could match. Shao Mingjue had probably thought of this and released them to deal with the group.
“Be careful.” Ji Shuohan looked up. “I’m going to catch Shao Mingjue.”
“Okay.” Ye Junting pulled Wen Yumiao behind him. Ye Zhijin and Ye Zhichen protected him. Dealing with Enigmas could only be done by comparing mental strength.
Ye Zhijin picked up a firearm and controlled his mental strength, taking advantage of the Enigmas’ rigid and inflexible movements. He fired, but their reactions were fast, and they easily dodged. Ye Zhijin could only control the direction of the bullets.
Ji Shuohan saw Shao Mingjue trying to escape during the chaos and immediately chased after him. Several Enigmas were also left by Shao Mingjue’s side, and they all attacked him. Two sets of pheromones clashed, and the corridor gradually froze. Ji Shuohan arrived before the man in black in an instant, kicking him away. He then quickly knocked another one over with a punch, sending him falling from the upper floor.
Ji Shuohan’s pheromone power became stronger and stronger. The surroundings were like a freezer, with a thick layer of ice forming on the cabins. Shao Mingjue was tripped by an ice spike that suddenly rose from the ground. When he looked up again, Ji Shuohan already had his gun pointed at him.
“I’ll ask you one more time: where exactly is Ye Zhile?” Ji Shuohan pulled the trigger, looking down at him. Shao Mingjue swallowed his saliva. “There’s a villa one kilometer away. He might be there…”
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Once Shao Mingjue finished speaking, Ji Shuohan fired four shots, crippling his four limbs. Shao Mingjue’s screams echoed through the research base.
Ji Shuohan looked down and suddenly noticed a man in black behind Wen Yumiao. He fired a shot, hitting the man’s forehead, and then vanished from the spot.
Shao Chen took Ye Zhile to the back of a villa but didn’t enter, as a large group of people were guarding the outside. It was already dark by now, with only the lights from outside the villa providing illumination. Ye Zhile looked at Shao Chen. “Where is this?”
“The place where my mother is imprisoned,” Shao Chen said.
Ye Zhile realized. “So you brought me here because you were afraid they wouldn’t rescue your mother, so you’re using me as a threat?”
Shao Chen looked at him calmly. “I’m sorry. The people guarding this place are all Enigmas, and my power alone is limited. When they come, I will let you go.”
“……” Ye Zhile was speechless. Having traveled all the way with Shao Chen, he was incredibly exhausted. Regardless of everything, he sat on the ground. The pain from his gland made him jump back and forth between consciousness and a daze.
“Tsk tsk, such a filial son?” Just as Ye Zhile was about to fall asleep, a sudden yet incredibly familiar voice sounded in his ear, spine-chilling like a snake’s hiss.
Shao Chen and Ye Zhile turned their heads abruptly. Ye Zhile looked in terror at the person who had vanished from the battleship that day, Mid, who had suddenly appeared before him again.
“Long time no see. Did you miss me?” Mid’s smile made one feel cold. He looked at Ye Zhile. “I didn’t expect you to be so lucky. You didn’t die after all that?”
“What are you doing!” Shao Chen didn’t know who this was, but hearing his words, he was clearly not a good person. He stepped forward to separate the two.
“Me…” Mid looked at Ye Zhile. “I’ve come for Ji Shuohan’s life!”
When Ji Shuohan arrived, the guards at the door had already been taken down. Shao Chen was collapsed at the door, and Ye Zhile had come out of the villa. He looked tense, wanting to call out to Ji Shuohan but not daring to because of the person behind him.
Ji Shuohan looked past Ye Zhile and saw the sinister Mid behind him, pointing a gun at Ye Zhile. He clenched his teeth. “Mid.”
“I must say, you lucky dog, not only have you escaped death multiple times, but you could even save Ye Zhile’s life.” Mid spoke with clenched teeth. If only his commander could have been saved back then, he wouldn’t be like this now.
Ji Shuohan took a deep breath, his heart hanging high. “Mid, I said my life can be given to you, but this matter has nothing to do with Ye Zhile. He is innocent.”
“I know he’s innocent.” Mid smiled. “But I just want you to taste my pain. Dying is too easy for you; I want you to be in agony.”
“Do you know how I’ve lived these years?” Mid’s eyes were moist, looking at Ji Shuohan in despair. “I’m in so much pain. Every time I think of the good times before and then realize he’s gone, I go crazy!”
“I’m sorry.” Ji Shuohan didn’t want to provoke Mid. He took a step forward. “Every debt has its debtor. Let him go. You can kill me, you can make my life a living hell—as long as you can be satisfied, I’ll do whatever you want.”
Hearing Ji Shuohan’s words, Ye Zhile felt a sourness in his heart. He slowly turned around. Ji Shuohan called him, “Zhile.”
“Losing your lover is indeed pitiable.” Ye Zhile looked at him firmly. “But your Rhea Star has forcibly occupied Empire territory multiple times and even oppressed the people at the border. What was wrong with the Empire’s legion using justifiable defense?”
“No!” Mid roared, “That was my Imperial Brother! All these years, I only wanted to cause trouble for Ji Shuohan. When Nortel was alive, he never harmed the people of the Empire! That was someone else’s doing! It had nothing to do with him!”
“Does war have eyes? Do bullets have eyes?” Ye Zhile’s eyes were red. “What about the people killed by your Rhea Star? Did they ever harm the people of Rhea Star? Did they deserve to die?”
“You have no right to say such things. You have everything.” Mid pointed the gun at him. Ji Shuohan was startled. “Mid!”
Mid pulled the trigger. With a bang, Ye Zhile closed his eyes tightly, feeling only a warmth on his face. Liquid rolled down his face, and the scent of blood spread. The imagined pain didn’t come. He slowly opened his eyes and saw the bloody hole on Ji Shuohan’s back. In an instant, Ye Zhile felt the blood in his entire body turn cold.
Ji Shuohan grabbed the barrel of Mid’s gun and pointed it at himself. He remained calm and said evenly, “A life for a life. Don’t come for Ye Zhile again.”
With that, Ji Shuohan let go of the gun barrel and collapsed before Ye Zhile.
Ye Zhile knelt on the ground in a panic. He wanted to pick up Ji Shuohan but didn’t have much strength. His heart was racing and his legs were weak, his voice trembling. “Lord…”
It had been so long since he heard this “Lord.” Ji Shuohan’s heart had almost stopped beating, but now it jerked once because of Ye Zhile’s call. The corners of his lips slowly curled up, and his gaze fixed on Ye Zhile with nostalgia. He opened his lips and spoke softly, “I’m sorry…”
Ye Zhile shook his head, lost in a panic. He cupped Ji Shuohan’s face and choked out, “I forgive you! I forgive you!”
However, Ji Shuohan didn’t have time to say anything more and finally closed his eyes.
“Lord…” Ye Zhile was stunned. He touched Ji Shuohan helplessly, his tears falling. “I said I forgive you… Ji Shuohan… I forgive you for everything in the past, do you hear me? Open your eyes!”
“You’re an Enigma; you won’t die easily, right?” Ye Zhile looked at him, tears flowing uncontrollably. No matter how much he called, Ji Shuohan never opened his eyes to look at him.
“Ji Shuohan!” Ye Zhile’s vision was blurred by tears. “Bastard! Didn’t you say to give you one more chance? You haven’t fulfilled your promise…”
Ye Zhile looked up and grabbed Mid’s sleeve, pleading, “Save him… please, Mid! Save his life!”
However, Mid gave Ji Shuohan a deep look and turned to leave.
Ye Zhile didn’t know what to do. His face was covered in tears. Looking at the ring on Ji Shuohan’s ring finger, his heart felt as if it had been cruelly torn open, and his emotions collapsed once again!
He lay on Ji Shuohan’s body. “Who can save you…”
“Lele!”
Suddenly, Ye Zhile seemed to hear a voice. He hurriedly sat up and crawled out. “Papa! Father!”
“Lele!” Ye Zhijin hurried in. He was startled to see the blood on Ye Zhile’s face and quickly helped him up. “Where are you hurt?”
“It’s not me…” Ye Zhile was like a person grabbing onto a life-saving straw. “Go save Ji Shuohan! Hurry!”
Ye Zhijin was also stunned when he saw the blood spreading on the ground. He immediately pulled out a handkerchief to cover Ji Shuohan’s wound. The others also arrived. Wen Yumiao picked up Ye Zhile, who was crying and covered in tears. “Lele!”
Ye Zhile lay in Wen Yumiao’s embrace, looking at Ji Shuohan hopelessly. “Lord…”
