Chapter 71: Buy One Get Two Free, You Profit
Ye Ran could feel the man’s soft lips and taste the hint of mint in his mouth—a cool, refreshing sensation that spread through the gaps between their teeth.
His mind went completely blank; he only knew to tightly clutch the hem of Chi Yuheng’s clothes.
Chi Yuheng’s kiss was light and carried a great deal of patience.
The breeze continued to blow, the lace curtains continued to sway, and the sunlight fell upon their figures, coating all the ambiguity in a layer of golden halo.
After an unknown amount of time, Chi Yuheng slowly released him.
His forehead rested against Ye Ran’s, his breathing somewhat unstable, and the emotions in his eyes were even deeper than before. “Yezi, how was the effect?”
Ye Ran’s face had long since turned crimson, burning from his cheeks all the way to the tips of his ears.
He opened his mouth but found he couldn’t even squeeze out a full sentence. He could only stare at Chi Yuheng’s lips, shaking his head blankly.
He had gradually become addicted to Chi Yuheng’s kiss, like a kitten craving catnip. When the kiss ended, he couldn’t react at all, completely forgetting the reason he had asked for the kiss in the first place.
Seeing him like this, a smile spread across Chi Yuheng’s lips.
His laughter was clear, carrying a hint of indulgence. “Are you very hot?”
He reached out and gently wiped the thin sweat from Ye Ran’s temple. The temperature of his fingertips made Ye Ran’s whole body shudder.
The central air conditioning was on in the house, but a servant must have opened the window at some point—likely seeing how good the air was outside and wanting to ventilate the room.
However, doing so allowed some of the cool air to escape. While the temperature inside was pleasant, it was a bit of a waste of money.
Regardless, the current temperature wasn’t enough to make Ye Ran this hot.
Ye Ran stood there dazed, motionless.
No matter what excuse he had used before, the important thing was… he had a reaction.
Ye Ran gave Chi Yuheng a somewhat stiff response. “Hot… so hot…”
He could feel the abnormality in his lower abdomen; that uncontrollable sense of tightness made him wish he could find a hole in the ground to crawl into.
Chi Yuheng: “Then I’ll close the window or lower the air conditioning temperature in your room.”
As he spoke, he moved to release the hand wrapped around Ye Ran’s waist, appearing as if he really intended to adjust the temperature.
Ye Ran instinctively grabbed his wrist. “No need.”
He had been shouting that he was hot just a second ago, and now he wouldn’t let him adjust the temperature. These words were contradictory no matter how one heard them; it looked like he was trying to hide something.
He could feel Chi Yuheng’s wrist carrying a warm body temperature, the sensation firm and powerful. The strength of his grip involuntarily loosened a bit, and his cheeks burned even more fiercely.
Chi Yuheng let out a soft laugh, a sound that seemed to have seen through his thoughts long ago but deliberately chose not to expose them.
He pulled Ye Ran back into his arms once more, bringing their distance even closer—so close that Ye Ran could clearly hear the heartbeat in the man’s chest, colliding with his own heart into a chaotic mess.
“You haven’t said yet—how was the effect of the trial? Is it useful?”
Ye Ran’s brain was still in a stalled state, filled with nothing but the tightness in his lower abdomen.
Chi Yuheng asked directly, so he followed the conversation, answering instinctively and truthfully with a voice that carried a hint of dazed honesty, “It’s useful, it seems it’s (hard)…”
The moment those words left his mouth, the air suddenly fell silent.
Ye Ran could even hear the faint sound of the curtains moving in the wind outside and the “thud-thud” sound of his own heart racing, as if it were about to jump out of his throat.
It took him two seconds to realize what he had said. His face turned red in a flash, even the tips of his ears burning hot.
Chi Yuheng’s movements also paused. He looked down at the stone-still Ye Ran in his arms but deliberately feigned ignorance, pressing for an answer: “What did you say? What is (hard)?”
“I said… I said it’s no good… not good at all…” Ye Ran lied through his teeth.
“No good, huh?” Chi Yuheng’s fingertips lightly rubbed against the side of Ye Ran’s waist. “For a businessman, the most important thing is integrity and quality. If the effect isn’t good, I provide after-sales service. So…”
Chi Yuheng asked softly, “Do you want to try again?”
Hearing this, Ye Ran choked. This guy even handles after-sales service!
“Actually, it’s buy one get two free. If you calculate it, you’re still making a profit.”
Chi Yuheng made it sound as if Ye Ran had picked up a huge bargain. At first glance, his logic seemed flawless.
The corner of Ye Ran’s mouth couldn’t help but twitch as he complained, “Sly merchant.”
Chi Yuheng laughed lowly. “But wasn’t this what you requested?”
True, he couldn’t rebut that; this kiss was actively sought by Ye Ran.
One time was enough to send him into a panic; if a second one came…
Thud, thud, thud… It was the sound of footsteps coming upstairs.
Ye Ran’s eardrums felt as if they were scalded by the sound, and he snapped back to reality.
They were still on the stairs!
They were actually… on the stairs just now!
Ye Ran: “…”
A servant might come upstairs to clean or close a window at any moment, yet they were kissing right here.
What was the difference between this and doing it in public!
He could only blame himself. No matter how anxious he was to test things with Chi Yuheng, he should have picked a better place. How could he have been so impulsive as to kiss right here on the spot?
Chi Yuheng followed the sound of the footsteps and looked down. The one coming upstairs was Xin Yu.
After booking the appointment for Chi Yuheng, Xin Yu had come over from the company. If Chi Yuheng was staying at the old mansion tonight, he could depart directly from there instead of rushing over the next morning.
Before coming, Uncle Lin had called him. He didn’t know how many days the young master would stay at the old mansion, but he wanted to tell him that school started in three days and not to forget.
Thus, Xin Yu coming upstairs was purely to find Ye Ran and tell him this; he hadn’t expected to bump into Chi Yuheng on the stairs.
The dialogue between the two just now had been very low, so Xin Yu hadn’t heard a thing, let alone known what an exciting scene had just taken place.
Now that he was upstairs, he only saw Chi Yuheng standing alone on the stairs, just a few steps away from the second-floor landing, standing there doing nothing.
It was very strange.
“Just you alone…”
How could he be alone?
Chi Yuheng suspected that Xin Yu really had water in his brain; even his eyes weren’t working properly now.
He turned his head, his gaze searching for Ye Ran.
The spot where the youth had been standing was now empty; he had long since vanished.
Chi Yuheng: “…”
No matter how fast his reactions were, they weren’t as fast as Ye Ran’s fleeing.
Xin Yu looked at the unclosed window and then at Chi Yuheng, having a realization.
“Standing here to feel the breeze is indeed quite nice. An excellent spot.”
Chi Yuheng looked with a dark face at the culprit who hadn’t let him kiss Ye Ran a second time.
After Xin Yu said that, he felt his boss’s gaze was somewhat resentful.
Was his mood bad because the wind didn’t blow well?
“Xin Yu,” Chi Yuheng called him.
“Eldest Young Master, I’m here.”
Chi Yuheng walked upstairs. “Come with me to the hospital tomorrow. You should get your brain checked while you’re at it.”
Xin Yu: “Huh?”
