Chapter 122: The Little Spirit Pet
Several years passed in the blink of an eye.
By the time Feng Shi noticed again, Shen Songhe was actually fifteen.
Since forming his Golden Core, Feng Shi’s height and appearance had stopped changing.
But Shen Songhe was different; the youth was at an age for growth. He had shot up rapidly. At fifteen, he was actually as high as Feng Shi’s chin. His appearance was already almost identical to the Immortal Yubai in Feng Shi’s memory.
In this world, there were likely few who could match his exceptional features.
The teenage version of Shen Songhe, having not yet experienced the great hardships to come, possessed a natural pride and arrogance. Although he usually restrained it intentionally, he was still young, and his eyes always held a clear innocence.
However, because he was too good-looking, Feng Shi couldn’t control himself.
So, for safety’s sake, he followed Huan Qing’s suggestion and moved him out of his own courtyard.
During these years, Huan Qing and Bo Li had returned several times. Each time, they stayed for only ten days to half a month before leaving again. Their excuse was that Feng Shi was taking such good care of his three Shidi that they, as Master and Shiniang, weren’t needed.
It was true. After the previous incident at Banyue Peak, both Qiu Changzhou and Xu Yan had restrained themselves significantly. They were now grown and sensible. Combined with Shen Songhe, the three of them were quite easy to manage.
After so long, Feng Shi’s cultivation could already rival the Deity Transformation stage. However, to avoid drawing too much attention, he temporarily suppressed his cultivation at the peak of the Golden Core stage.
But he estimated he couldn’t hold it for much longer.
His daily routine now consisted of cultivating while occasionally being lazy. Life was very pleasant.
Half a month ago, he had packed the three of them off to descend the mountain for a mission.
After his three Shidi left, he was the only one left on this vast Songtao Peak. Over time, it was inevitable that he would feel bored.
It just so happened that Second Martial Uncle sent someone to give him a white fox to look at. He kept it as a spirit pet by his side.
Although the little white fox had not yet gained sapience, it was clever and likable. Feng Shi quite liked it.
Another half month passed, and the three Shidi returned from their mission.
The mission they chose was Grade D, and it only took them a month—which was considered very fast.
Originally, the three had sent word that it would take two or three more days, but this time they returned a day early. Feng Shi didn’t know and was lying on his couch, bored, training the fox.
After entering the mountain gate, handing in the mission, and collecting the spiritual stones, the three flew their swords toward Songtao Peak.
On the way, they ran into the Lin sisters who were out.
After that incident, the group hadn’t developed any grudges and still hung out together.
The Lin sisters were outspoken. Upon seeing the three, they had endless things to say. As they talked, everything was spilled out.
When mentioning Feng Shi raising a spirit pet, the two sisters giggled, their words full of teasing.
Hearing that his Big Shixiong was actually raising a fox, Qiu Changzhou’s eyes widened in surprise. His shoulders shook as he laughed, “Big Shixiong? Why did he suddenly get the whim to raise a fox spirit pet? Isn’t raising one little Shidi as a spirit pet enough for him?”
The moment he spoke, he was hit on the back of the head by Xu Yan. “What does it have to do with you? Is our Shixiong’s business something you should discuss?”
Qiu Changzhou was dissatisfied, “Damn it, you should fix your own habit of getting physical first!”
After saying that, he lost his nerve and ran off to stand at a distance.
In recent years, raising foxes and rabbits had become a trend in the cultivation world.
It was said that if such spirit pets were to cultivate into human form, their appearance would be breathtaking and their figures graceful—they had “other uses.”
As the four talked and laughed, no one noticed that standing at the very back, the silent Shen Songhe’s expression had quietly changed upon hearing this. He clenched his fists hidden in his sleeves.
Finally finishing their catch-up, the three continued flying toward Songtao Peak.
On the way, Qiu Changzhou boldly suggested going to Feng Shi’s place to see the new little fox spirit pet.
Xu Yan had no objection. When he asked Shen Songhe, he only received a cold, “I’m not going.”
Having spent years with Shen Songhe, Qiu Changzhou was already immune to this phrase. Still, he couldn’t help but be surprised, “Don’t you like Big Shixiong the most? I saw how eager you were to return while we were outside. Was it not because you missed him?”
Shen Songhe’s face was dark, his gaze fixed straight ahead.
He didn’t admit it, but he didn’t deny it either. He just went straight to the disciples’ quarters and descended.
Qiu Changzhou stopped in mid-air, completely baffled. “What is our little Shidi angry about now?”
Xu Yan looked at Shen Songhe’s back, however, with an expression of having seen through everything. He let out a cold sneer but said nothing.
A moment later, he turned to glance at Qiu Changzhou, “Are we going to see the fox or not?”
“Yes! How could we not go?”
The two headed toward Feng Shi’s residence up the mountain. Below, Shen Songhe retracted his sword and strode toward his own room with lowered eyes.
Just as he entered the room, he was seen throwing something in his hand away forcefully.
A crisp sound made Shen Songhe’s footsteps stop.
The youth clenched his fists, his chest heaving with his head lowered. Quietly, the corners of his eyes turned a tender, watery red.
