Chapter 75: Pheromone Disorder. Omega Identity Must Never Be…
Jiang Chenyan deliberately lowered his eyes, pretending not to see the group. He shifted his steps to take a detour.
“Stop.”
A familiar voice came from behind—it was likely Cyrus.
Jiang Chenyan tightened his grip with his fingertips. He didn’t stop, acting as if he hadn’t heard, even speeding up slightly.
“Tsk, that’s quite disrespectful.”
In the next second, his shoulder was gripped heavily. The strength was enough to almost crush Jiang Chenyan’s bones.
Frederick circled around to the front of Jiang Chenyan. Looking down from above, he leaned in and smiled. “Why are you running?”
Jiang Chenyan’s gaze landed on Frederick’s face. “I’m not running.”
With Frederick approaching, the scent of Alpha pheromones became increasingly intense, invasive to his nostrils.
Jiang Chenyan’s stomach cramped. A physiological nausea instantly spread through his entire body. His fingertips trembled slightly, but he didn’t show it on his face, forcing himself to stay calm.
“I’m walking.”
“Ha.” Frederick let out a low laugh, his finger rubbing his chin.
Why was Jiang Chenyan so funny?
“Since we’ve run into each other, why don’t we have a good chat?”
Jiang Chenyan’s expression turned cold, and a flash of disgust crossed his eyes. What did he have to chat about with this group?
“I have things to do. Let’s not.”
“Teacher.”
A single word, “Teacher,” drew a clear line between them.
Not far away, Qi Bai leaned coldly against the wall, a lit cigarette between his fingers. His features were deep. The cigarette butt burned quietly as smoke curled up. Those eyes fell heavily on Jiang Chenyan. After a long while, he spoke: “Let him go.”
Frederick arched an eyebrow and shrugged, releasing the hand on Jiang Chenyan’s shoulder. “Student Jiang, see you another day then.”
Jiang Chenyan said nothing. Under the scrutinizing, teasing, or indifferent gazes of the Alphas, he walked away step by step.
The moment he stepped out of the main doors, his forced composure instantly collapsed.
His stomach was in turmoil, and a wave of dizziness surged over him like a tide.
Jiang Chenyan stumbled into a deserted corner. His legs gave out, and he crouched down wretchedly, his hands pressing firmly against his abdomen. His fingertips were white as he gasped for air, trying to settle the physiological discomfort.
After an unknown amount of time, the cramping in his stomach gradually eased.
He slowly stood up, wiped his pale cheeks, tidied his collar, and turned to walk in the direction he had agreed upon with Kai Lan.
He had to give the item to Kai Lan first.
Jiang Chenyan’s fingertips were white, the force with which he gripped the hem of his clothes almost crushing the fabric.
He didn’t understand why his body had become like this.
After the competition ended, his sensitivity to Alpha pheromones had reached a near-pathological level. A slight exposure made nausea rush to his throat.
Kai Lan had been waiting for Jiang Chenyan in place.
Jiang Chenyan walked up quickly and pressed the item into his hand.
“Your face looks terrible.” Kai Lan saw through what was wrong with Jiang Chenyan at a glance.
Jiang Chenyan lowered his eyelids. “It’s strange. Lately, I’ve been feeling more and more repulsed by Alpha pheromones.”
“Repulsed?” Kai Lan’s brow furrowed instantly, his expression serious. “There’s a high probability your heat period is coming. Gland sensitivity will skyrocket. You must use suppressants on time; don’t be careless.”
Jiang Chenyan looked up, a very faint bitterness in his eyes. He merely tugged at the corners of his mouth and said in a low voice: “Don’t worry.”
His eyelids were heavy, and an overwhelming drowsiness swept over him. Even his vision was beginning to blur.
He gritted his teeth and forced himself to speak. “I can’t. I need to go back and sleep.”
So tired. Why was he so tired?
“Mm, hurry back and rest. Contact me if anything happens.”
“I’ll be heading out too.”
After parting with Kai Lan, Jiang Chenyan’s consciousness fell completely into chaos. He relied solely on instinct to walk toward the dormitory, his steps staggering as he nearly crashed into a corner.
Pushing the door open, he locked it behind him. He barely had the strength to breathe as he felt around for the suppressants hidden in the shadows and injected a vial into himself without hesitation.
The cold sensation brought by the liquid temporarily suppressed the restlessness in his body, but it couldn’t dispel the exhaustion deep in his marrow.
He collapsed onto the bed, his body instantly swallowed by a heavy drowsiness. Before he could even organize his thoughts, he lost consciousness entirely.
Jiang Chenyan was completely unaware of when Shen Shiyue returned.
After a night of deep sleep, he opened his eyes the next morning feeling unexpectedly refreshed. The discomfort in his body had vanished without a trace; it seemed the suppressants had worked.
There were no classes today.
Jiang Chenyan and Shen Shiyue stayed quietly in the dormitory when, suddenly, both of their optical computers vibrated simultaneously.
The campus forum had already exploded. The pinned post was a discussion regarding the recommendation slots.
[Anyway, it has nothing to do with me. I’m just here for the fun.] [Aren’t these things all decided internally? What’s there to guess.] [I heard the benefits of being recommended are amazing. So jealous.] [To be honest, only giving a medal to the top scorers in the finals is too unreasonable. I bet it was just to pave the way for these recommendations, right?] […] [The official announcement says the list will be out in a week. Waiting.] [Haha.]
Jiang Chenyan swept his gaze over the screen. His finger paused briefly, and a sense of realization flashed in his eyes.
What was meant to come had finally arrived.
Shen Shiyue looked up, his gaze deep as he looked at Jiang Chenyan. “It seems you’ve made your decision.”
“I decided long ago.” Jiang Chenyan lay back on the bed, resting an arm over his forehead to conceal the emotions in his eyes.
He had even begun planning to pack his things and vanish from here the next second.
Hiding his identity day after day was making it hard for him to breathe.
Behind him, two mad dogs, Xie Huaijin and Mu Sian, were clinging on, and now Frederick had been added as a ticking time bomb. A single misstep would mean total ruin.
Jiang Chenyan placed a hand on his forehead, his fingertips rubbing his throbbing temples. “If I were to guess the recommendation list, it’ll definitely include both of us.”
“The two of us are the best in the world. If we go, we go together.”
He knew that Shen Shiyue must also be very tired. Pretending to be an Alpha as an Omega was a technical skill.
Shen Shiyue sat opposite him, looking at him silently, his deep eyes unreadable. “…”
Jiang Chenyan suddenly remembered something and tilted his head to look at him. “Didn’t you say before that you would take me to see your grandfather? Find a time to arrange it.”
The heavy exhaustion returned, and he let out a yawn, his voice softening. “I want to know you a bit better.”
As the words fell, Jiang Chenyan slowly closed his eyes, his breathing gradually becoming steady.
Shen Shiyue stood up and walked light-footedly to the bedside, leaning over to gaze at Jiang Chenyan’s sleeping profile.
He slowly raised a finger and lightly brushed it against the other’s cool cheek.
A low voice rang in the silent dormitory: “Saying that makes it sound like a confession.”
“Jiang Chenyan, if I really confessed to you, would you agree?”
It was fine. Even if he didn’t agree, it didn’t matter. He would just cling to him and never let go.
…
In the following days, Jiang Chenyan attended classes as usual. Life seemed peaceful, yet a strange void always lingered in his heart, as if he had forgotten something important that he couldn’t recall.
It wasn’t until his terminal vibrated and a message from Xie Huaijin popped up that Jiang Chenyan was suddenly struck with realization.
Oh, Xie Huaijin had said he wanted to talk.
Talk? What was there to talk about?
The moment the thought arose, even that last bit of perfunctory effort vanished. Jiang Chenyan simply had no interest in dealing with him.
But he hadn’t expected that while he was out buying daily necessities alone, he would be blocked by Xie Huaijin in a narrow alleyway.
“Hiding from me?” Xie Huaijin leaned against the wall, a cigarette between his fingers.
Jiang Chenyan instinctively took a step back to create distance, speaking coldly: “I’m not hiding. I just thought about it, and there’s nothing for us to chat about.”
“If you have something to say, say it now.”
Hearing this, Xie Huaijin wasn’t annoyed; instead, he gave a low laugh and took half a step forward. The pressure of an Alpha spread quietly. “During the competition, I did help you out. Is this the attitude I get?”
Jiang Chenyan pursed his lips and remained silent for a moment. “Didn’t I help you too? We’re even.”
If not for him, Xie Huaijin might not have escaped Mu Sian’s harassment so easily.
He hadn’t forced them into that crash.
The light in Xie Huaijin’s eyes dimmed. He extinguished the cigarette butt with his fingertips, his voice suddenly dropping several levels. “Because of helping you, I was given a beating by my father. Want to see the wounds?”
Jiang Chenyan’s movements froze. The coldness around him solidified, and he fell into a rare silence, his fingertips instinctively tightening on the bag in his hand.
“I don’t want to…”
His voice was cold. Just as it left his mouth, the intense scent of Alpha pheromones from Xie Huaijin’s body entered his nostrils, triggering his physiological discomfort and making his stomach churn.
This was bad. Jiang Chenyan only wanted to escape as quickly as possible. “I have a class. Leaving now.”
Just as he took a step, his wrist was grabbed by the Alpha. The strength was enough to almost crush his bones.
Xie Huaijin stared at Jiang Chenyan’s tense profile. He suddenly exerted force, slamming him hard against the wall behind.
With a dull thud, Jiang Chenyan’s back hit the wall painfully. His face turned as pale as paper instantly, and a suppressed groan of pain escaped his throat.
He gritted his teeth and barked in anger: “Are you sick?!”
A sharp pain came from the side of his neck.
Xie Huaijin lowered his head and bit hard near his gland.
Sharp pain spread through his entire body along his nerves. Jiang Chenyan tensed up, his fingertips deathly gripping Xie Huaijin’s sleeve as he struggled to push him away. But the other party’s strength was incredible; he could only let the pain intensify as cold sweat soaked his back.
Fortunately, Xie Huaijin didn’t inject pheromones or mark him. It was a simple bite, one filled with the intent of punishment.
After an unknown amount of time, Xie Huaijin finally let go. Looking at the beads of blood seeping from the side of Jiang Chenyan’s neck and the clear tooth marks, he became visibly excited, admiring his own handiwork.
“That’s enough. You can go.”
Jiang Chenyan raised his hand and used all his strength to slap Xie Huaijin across the face.
Slap!
A crisp sound rang out. Xie Huaijin’s head was whipped to the side, and a clear handprint quickly appeared on his cheek. His expression turned unsightly instantly, yet there was no sign of anger.
“Go back. I won’t fight you.” Xie Huaijin gave a light laugh.
Taking a slap for a bite—he wasn’t at a loss.
Jiang Chenyan deathly covered the bleeding tooth marks on his neck, muttered “Lunatic,” and turned to stumble away.
He stumbled into a deserted corner and slid down against a wall, cold sweat constantly dripping from his temples.
The pheromones in his body were rushing and clashing uncontrollably, tearing at his nerves and bringing waves of sharp, aching pain.
Jiang Chenyan curled up, his hands pressing firmly on his gland. He didn’t understand—it was just a simple bite without a mark or pheromone injection. Why was his body losing control like this?
He carried his bag and walked back to the dormitory with unsteady steps. His face was as pale as paper, and the wound on his neck throbbed.
Disregarding everything else, he stumbled as he fished out suppressants and injected a vial into himself with trembling hands.
The cold liquid flowed into his veins, and the raging pheromones in his body finally settled. The discomfort gradually eased.
With a “click,” Shen Shiyue pushed the door open and entered, carrying two containers of warm food. Seeing Jiang Chenyan’s pale face, his heart tightened, and he hurried forward. “What happened? Why is your face so pale?”
As his gaze moved down, the tooth marks left on the side of the neck entered his view. Dark red bloodstains traced the clear bite, appearing ferociously provocative and exceptionally jarring.
Shen Shiyue’s face was gloomy. The pressure around him dropped to freezing point as he suppressed his impending rage. He asked: “Who did it?”
Jiang Chenyan collapsed back onto the bed, his strength gone. His voice was hoarse and tired: “Xie Huaijin.”
Shen Shiyue’s fingers holding the lunch boxes suddenly tightened, his knuckles turning white.
He clenched his fists deathly, trying his best to suppress the surging ferocity. The gloom in his eyes couldn’t be hidden.
“I’ll treat your wound, then we’ll eat.”
Jiang Chenyan nodded and propped up his weak body. His voice was light and hoarse: “Okay.”
A cotton swab dipped in iodine lightly brushed over the wound on the side of his neck. Sharp pain spread along his skin, and Jiang Chenyan instinctively tensed his body.
Shen Shiyue’s movements were very gentle. He carefully cleaned the blood scabs. Only after the wound was properly bandaged did he hand the food to Jiang Chenyan.
After eating, Shen Shiyue said, “I’m going out for a bit.”
Jiang Chenyan looked up at Shen Shiyue, suspecting he was going to beat up Xie Huaijin.
As if seeing through his thoughts, Shen Shiyue stopped and turned back to look at him. “Just buying some things. Don’t worry.”
Jiang Chenyan nodded in silence, watching Shen Shiyue push the door open and leave. For some reason, his heart felt a bit heavy.
Forget it, don’t think too much.
…
In the following days, Jiang Chenyan didn’t see Xie Huaijin again. It was as if the man had vanished into thin air.
The matter of meeting Shen Shiyue’s grandfather was also temporarily shelved. The daily complex curriculum was suffocating, and Jiang Chenyan’s state was truly terrible. His whole body was weak and his spirit listless, as if his essence had been drained.
Looking like a mess, it was better not to meet for now.
Even the System couldn’t stand it:
[Is the power of the heat period this great?]
Jiang Chenyan lay on the desk, his cheek against the cold surface, his voice muffled: “Don’t know.”
The classroom was very quiet. He was curled in a seat in the back row. His eyelids were so heavy they almost stuck together. Even the teacher’s voice became blurred, leaving only waves of exhaustion and a faint restlessness deep within his body.
[Host, I’m so afraid.]
Jiang Chenyan was a bit speechless. “What are you afraid of?”
System:
[Afraid you’ll suddenly die.]
“…”
[Don’t be anxious. I’ll check out your situation. Wait for it.]
Jiang Chenyan lay on the desk. His consciousness was repeatedly pulled between wakefulness and sleep. The heavy, dull feeling of drowsiness made it impossible for him to lift his head.
Until a low voice rang in his ear. Shen Shiyue: “Stayed up late last night?”
“No…” he responded vaguely.
After observing for the past few days, Shen Shiyue had already sensed that something was wrong with Jiang Chenyan. “Go to the infirmary after class.”
Jiang Chenyan snapped awake slightly. He shook his head like a rattle, his voice kept extremely low. “Can’t go. What if I’m exposed?”
His Omega identity must never be discovered by anyone.
Shen Shiyue wanted to say more, but a slight commotion suddenly came from the back door.
Several figures walked in against the light. Behind Qi Bai were several people from the Student Council coming to check attendance.
Jiang Chenyan sat up straight almost as a reflex.
Qi Bai stopped at his desk and lightly tapped the surface with his fingertip. His gaze swept over the other’s bloodless face and the exhaustion in his eyes. “You’re quite good at sleeping.”
Jiang Chenyan kept his eyes lowered and responded in a low voice: “Not again.”
It was better to be a bit submissive at a time like this.
He didn’t want to copy the school rules to death.
Just then, the System’s voice suddenly exploded in his mind:
[Host, you might have Pheromone Disorder.]
Jiang Chenyan’s head buzzed, and his mind went blank. What the hell?
To make matters worse, the scent of high-grade Alpha pheromones unique to Qi Bai spread quietly like an invisible net. Carrying a crisp coldness, it constantly entered his nostrils.
Jiang Chenyan only felt his vision go dark. The strength in his body was drained, and his body swayed uncontrollably, almost falling over onto the desk.
He was going to faint.
