Chapter 200: You Are My Medicine (25)
Chen Yinnian turned around and saw Xiao Ji standing behind him, his clothes slightly disheveled. His pupils constricted, and he opened his mouth, struggling to speak.
“Brother…”
Xiao Ji opened his arms to him, and he stood up to throw himself into Xiao Ji’s embrace.
“Why are you here?”
Xiao Ji tightened his arms around him. “I told you, no matter what you do, I’ll find out.”
Chen Yinnian fell silent. His mind was a mess. He wanted to ask Xiao Ji about the “transaction,” but in this moment, he simply couldn’t bring himself to speak.
Feeling the fabric on his chest gradually becoming wet, Xiao Ji sighed.
“Chen Yinnian, it’s okay to lose your temper. Running off to a place like this to skydive by yourself isn’t an unpardonable sin. What you shouldn’t have done was doubt me.”
Hearts are made of flesh.
In truth, regardless of what Xiao Ji had taken from the Chen family, his kindness toward Chen Yinnian was beyond doubt.
Just as Chen Yinnian had said, Xiao Ji treated him better than anyone else did.
He never lost his temper with him. No matter what state he was in, Xiao Ji could always handle every problem regarding Chen Yinnian with extreme patience and a calm mind.
He had set aside his work in Jinsha to take Chen Yinnian away for half a year, all to soothe Chen Yinnian’s illness and mindset.
Every detail, every bit of meticulous care—none of it was something a person solely pursuing profit could act out.
The way Xiao Ji looked at him was clearly filled with love.
Chen Yinnian leaned into Xiao Ji’s embrace and burst into tears.
He cried without restraint, though it was unclear if he was expressing his apology to Xiao Ji and his own self-blame, or if he was venting the pressures of the past and the accusations of being abandoned by his family.
It took a long time for his crying to subside. He choked out to Xiao Ji, “I’m sorry, Brother. I should have asked you first.”
Xiao Ji waited for a very long time before Chen Yinnian finally calmed down on his own.
Chen Yinnian found a tap nearby to wash his face. With his eyes and nose still red, he sat opposite Xiao Ji in the skydiving center’s lounge.
Xiao Ji ordered a soda for him and an iced Americano for himself.
He pulled a folder from his bag, placed it in front of Chen Yinnian, and said seriously:
“When I first agreed to take care of you, I did indeed propose some conditions to the Chen family.”
“Chen Ni acquired a plot of land in the Chen family’s name and transferred it to me to develop and build an amusement park. All the funding is provided by your family, while I simply enjoy the fruits of their labor.”
“I didn’t tell you at first because I was afraid it would affect your mood—that you’d mistake what’s between us for a transaction.”
“I intended to lay everything out before you once it was all settled, but I didn’t expect that both Chen Ni and your parents would be such incompetent fools who are better at ruining things than achieving them.”
Chen Yinnian already knew this. Now hearing it from Xiao Ji, it didn’t differ much from what he had learned from Chen Ni.
Chen Yinnian did indeed care about the word “transaction.” He craved a pure and passionate relationship too much.
But as he opened the folder, he found he couldn’t quite understand what he was seeing.
He sat patiently across from Xiao Ji, carefully reading every word on those documents.
He knew the characters individually, but when put together, they felt incomprehensible.
After a long while, he finally looked up at Xiao Ji.
“These documents have nothing to do with the amusement park.”
Xiao Ji looked back at him. “Of course not. Because I’ve changed my mind. I don’t plan on giving you the amusement park. I’m keeping it for myself.”
“The materials in this folder that have already been signed are the things I’m giving to you.”
Hearing this, Chen Yinnian lowered his head and re-read the documents several times.
He then looked at Xiao Ji, his gaze somewhat dazed. “What does ‘non-participation in company affairs, only receiving fifty percent of the shares’ mean?”
“What does ‘dividends from sixteen casinos’ mean?”
“What does ‘transfer of thirty-two properties’ mean?”
“What does ‘gift of private islands and manors’ mean?”
Xiao Ji spoke bluntly: “Exactly what it says. I’ve been working on this all day—transferring all the assets under my name to you.”
He took a sip of his iced coffee. “Of course, except for that amusement park. I’m keeping that.”
Chen Yinnian froze, his eyes vacant. “Why?”
Xiao Ji said calmly, “In case you get angry one day and refuse to give me pocket money. It wouldn’t be right for me to ask my mother for some.”
Chen Yinnian was speechless. “That’s not what I meant. I’m asking why you’re transferring them to me.”
Xiao Ji frowned. “Do you really not have a clear understanding of yourself?”
“Forgive my bluntness, Chen Yinnian, but I can see you’re in a decent state right now.”
“First, this is the reward for the time and energy I’ve invested during this period. I am gratified and very happy.”
“Second, you could buy that helicopter on a whim even when you’re feeling alright. I can’t imagine how terrifying your spending urge would be when you’re actually excited.”
“I can’t give you decision-making power over the company because you can’t guarantee you can earn enough money for your own squandering. Therefore, I must continue to work for you.”
Chen Yinnian fell completely silent.
In this moment, he was overwhelmed by guilt. He wiped his face and said to Xiao Ji:
“Brother, I’m sorry. I really deserve to die.”
Xiao Ji had said too much today.
For the first time, he felt fatigued while facing Chen Yinnian.
He warned Chen Yinnian, “Don’t let me hear that kind of talk again.”
Afterward, he pulled a pen from his bag and tossed it to Chen Yinnian, then tapped the document with his index finger:
“Sign.”
What Chen Yinnian wanted had never been assets or money.
He didn’t know what he wanted before, but now he only wanted Xiao Ji.
He spoke up to refuse: “No, Brother, I can’t…”
Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Xiao Ji’s cold face:
“Shut up and sign, Chen Yinnian. Don’t make me say it a third time.”
This was the first time Xiao Ji had been stern with Chen Yinnian.
Chen Yinnian jolted in fright and hurried to sign his name on every page that required it.
Afterward, he obediently put the pen away and handed the documents to Xiao Ji with both hands.
Xiao Ji took the pen back, snatched the folder, tucked it into his bag, and said calmly:
“When we get back, I’ll talk to your family about this. We’ll sign a voluntary guardianship agreement. After that, you won’t have to go back if there’s no reason to.”
Chen Yinnian nodded obediently.
The two sat there for a long time, staring at each other.
Seeing that Xiao Ji remained silent, Chen Yinnian’s heart continued to thump wildly.
He pursed his lips and spoke cautiously:
“Brother, are we going back now?”
It was already dark outside. Xiao Ji checked the time, shook his head, and stood up.
Chen Yinnian hurried to stand up with him.
“Then what are we going to do?”
Xiao Ji straightened his collar, his face still cold:
“Since we’re already here, let’s go skydiving.”
