Chapter 116: Will You Forget Me?
Yun Qi spent two days deep in thought.
His preoccupation was so profound that he remained somewhat absent-minded even during training and combat.
On this day, having returned from a mission, he intended to once again peruse the Sea God scriptures he kept in his possession. He carried only a single volume with him, and he pored over its pages with meticulous care.
The descriptions concerning the contract between the Sea God and the Sea Godâs Bride were sparse within this particular text.
In fact, at the very end, there were only a few brief wordsâ
The bond of passion is born, fundamentally, from the heart.
He pondered these words carefully, wondering if the connection between himself and Chi Wan had grown too faint because the bond between them was lacking.
The two of them rarely spoke, and their communication remained stiff and awkward.
As he reflected on this, his guilt only intensified.
He felt that since he was bound to her by a contract, he should set aside past grievances and fulfill his obligations as a Sentinel.
During that summoning in the room… had he been too harsh with her?
Was that why she wore such a pained expression, constantly pleading to dissolve their bond?
And when she summoned him during battle, had he been too distant?
Perhaps that was why, after those first few summons, she had ceased to call upon him for a long time.
Yun Qi couldn’t quite put into words what it was he felt so guilty about.
It was simply that the sensation of her gradually slipping away caused an inexplicable panic to rise within him.
He inquired all the way to the Combat Oversight Department before learning that Chi Wan was out on a mission.
Wild Point 071.
Cang Lin looked toward Li Su. “So, how long will you be gone this time?”
“Not long. About ten days or so.”
“Fine. Iâll take over your duties for the time being.”
“My thanks.”
As the two spoke, a Sentinelâs urgent voice suddenly crackled through their earpieces:
“Commander! A massive surge of pollution entities has suddenly erupted in the fourth branch of the Wild Point! Guide Chi Wan is trapped inside alone!”
Cang Linâs brow furrowed. His Golden Dragon soared forth, carrying him directly toward the Wild Point.
Chi Wan felt as though her luck had truly hit rock bottom.
It was supposed to be a perfectly ordinary branch of a Wild Point. In fact, she had chosen to scout it alone precisely because she hadn’t detected any energy signatures from pollution entities.
And yet, she had somehow stumbled into a spatial rift, and a horde of high-level pollution entities had come pouring out!
No matter how hard she resisted, she couldn’t avoid being sent flying by a sweeping blow.
[Host, I donât think itâs just bad luck. They might be coming for that fragment!]
“Miss Chi!”
Shiliuâs anxious voice called out from the distance.
“Hurry, get in there and save her!”
Shisan and Shishi worked together to hack through the obstructions, but to no avail. They could only shake their heads.
“The way is blocked by pollution entities! Should we try to find another way through?”
Immediately afterward, they felt a terrifying surge of energy erupting from behind them.
The energy was both familiar and strange, and Shiliuâs expression was the most shaken of all.
He turned his head in shock. Sure enough, Chi Che was approaching with a dark expression. The deep red energy behind him surged like a catastrophic tidal wave, rising over ten meters high!
A terrifying deep-sea leviathan manifested from within that energy. A single tentacle smashed through the blocked passage!
Then, the crowd watched as the giant pollution entities were swiftly ensnared by the tentacles, one by one, before being crushed until they exploded!
A massive mist of black blood erupted in the air.
Chi Wan was stunned by the sight before her.
She looked up. Through the crimson mist, Chi Che had already walked to her side. The black fog made his face look hauntingly beautiful.
Chi Wan stared at him blankly. “Why…”
He leaned down and gathered her into his arms. “I regretted the last time. I don’t want to regret it again.”
More high-level pollution entities swarmed out from the rift!
Rocks crumbled as the giant octopus pinned the high-level entities down. The peak SSS-rank energy was so powerful that every Sentinel in the vicinity was left in awe.
Atop his Golden Dragon, Cang Lin looked down at the red tentacles thrashing among the ruins, his gaze heavy.
Li Su, who had just arrived, was equally shocked.
Who could have imagined that the man who usually appeared so sickly and frail possessed such terrifying power?
Even his mental entity was incredibly rare.
As Chi Che held Chi Wan, she felt his chest was damp. She glanced sideways and saw that his shoulder had been sliced open by a falling rock at some point. The wound was deep, and blood was flowing freely.
That blood mingled with the wound on her own arm.
They flowed together.
“Young Master!”
Shiliu and the others hurried over.
“Take Miss Chi to have her wounds treated.”
His voice was calm.
Shiliu seemed to have a thousand things he wanted to say, his eyes trembling, but in the end, he simply lowered his head respectfully.
“Yes, sir!”
Chi Wan sensed something. As he set her down, she turned back to look at him.
“Chi Che, are you leaving?”
“I will return in a month and a half at the earliest.”
As he spoke, he looked down at her with a faint, shallow smile, his eyes hiding a multitude of emotions.
“When that time comes… will you have forgotten me?”
Chi Wan pursed her lips, offering no answer.
