Chapter 117: It Was a Dream
The battle had been too sensational.
Journalists accompanying the Alliance began to broadcast the news aggressively.
[The hidden boss of the Yize Group is actually an over-SSS Sentinel! Mental entity is a rare deep-sea giant octopus, lineage unknown (Attached Image)]
[Following the five Commanders who successfully rose to over-SSS rank, a sixth over-SSS Sentinel has suddenly appeared in the Alliance. However, this Mr. Chi is too mysterious; he belongs to no family or base.]
The news spread like a tide, impossible to suppress.
Chi Che and his men left in a hurry.
When Chi Wan walked out of the medical department, she saw Yun Qi waiting outside. Perhaps it was the lighting, but his face looked somewhat pale.
There were only a few meters between them, yet Chi Wan felt no mental resonance at all.
Thinking of something, she called out tentatively:
“Yun Qi.”
There was no pull.
“Sea God.”
Still nothing.
Joy flared in her heart as she approached him.
“This is great! Itâs broken!”
The contract that had caused them both so much distress was finally dissolved.
But her joy didn’t last long when she realized the way he was looking at her. It was no longer cold and indifferent.
Instead, his eyes were filled with emotions she couldn’t decipher.
“You… did you want to dissolve the contract that badly?”
The Sea Godâs blood-bond was a total entrustment of the Sea God to his Bride. When a Bride unilaterally dissolved the bond, the Sea God would suffer a backlashâa punishment for failing to protect his love.
On the way to Wild Point 071, his body had begun to ache with increasing intensity.
By the end, he could barely stand.
As the Sea God mark on his forehead flickered incessantly, the Sea Godâs power surged, reversing the flow of his divine blood.
The agonizing pain served as a deep reminder that she had truly succeeded.
She had dissolved the bond between them.
The sensation of being abandoned by the Sea Godâs Bride… so this was what it felt like to have one’s heart gouged out.
“Didn’t you want to dissolve it, too? Just a few days ago, you said it was a burden,” Chi Wan murmured. The look on his face made her feel as though she had somehow wronged him.
Yun Qi lowered his head, his pale lips twitching.
Before he could offer an explanation, a bright voice called out from behind:
“Xiao Wanwan! Come here! Something’s happened!”
Seeing that it was Kui An, Chi Wan immediately ran over.
Kui An pulled Chi Wan into her quarters, her expression solemn.
“Xiao Wanwan, that thing you asked me to help you with? A real opportunity has finally come up!”
Dudu stood quietly before them, tilting its mechanical head to listen without interruption.
Chi Wanâs pupils dilated, almost unable to believe it.
“Really?”
“A Sentinel I know helped me get in touch with an acquaintanceâone of the managers at the 04-75 Interstellar Space Station. They can help you, but they can’t wait a whole month. Three days from now, a passenger on an interstellar flight from Station 04-75 had a last-minute emergency and decided to give up their seat. The station is handling it internally. They can slip you in as a replacement.”
Chi Wan blinked, processing the sudden information.
“Three days.”
“That means… I have to leave as early as tomorrow morning.”
“Yes.”
Kui An placed her hands on Chi Wanâs shoulders.
“Xiao Wanwan, you have to decide for yourself. Opportunities like this don’t come often.”
[Itâs not a bad idea to leave early, Host. That fragment youâre carrying is a ticking time bomb. Someone is definitely trying to snatch it from you. Even if they can’t track it while itâs in the system space, they seem to have already locked onto you.]
[Leaving early might be the best choice.]
Chi Wan looked down at Dudu. “But Dudu…”
Kui An cupped Chi Wanâs face in her hands, her smile radiant and full of charm.
“Xiao Wanwan, will you ever come back?”
Chi Wanâs gaze was firm as she nodded.
“Then until you return, Iâll take care of Dudu for you. Don’t you worry.”
Receiving the data, Dudu looked at Chi Wan and then at Kui An.
“Is Big Sister Chi Wan leaving? T^T”
“Iâll be back, Dudu. Itâs just that the time…”
She wasn’t sure how long it would take for her to become strong enough to return with confidence.
Kui An smiled and leaned down, meeting Chi Wanâs eyes.
“When you were talking to me back at the Contribution Exchange Building, I already sensed you were thinking of leaving. Iâm someone who once left a place behind completely, too. I know that if you want to go, you must have your reasons.”
This feeling of being understood made Chi Wanâs nose sting.
She smiled. “Sister Kui An, I really like you. Iâm so grateful I met you in the Alliance.”
“Silly girl.”
Kui An tapped Chi Wanâs nose, her own eyes growing a bit red.
“Take this. Early tomorrow morning, Iâll secretly arrange for someone to send you off. Dudu and I will be here waiting for you. Waiting for the day you return.”
Chi Wan began to pack and prepare for what was to come.
She spent all her contribution points and entrusted Kui An to secretly use all her star coins to purchase star stones, firearms, ammunition, a light armored vehicle, energy stones, and instant rations. She stored everything in her space. With the billion coins Pei Yuan had given her, she had more than enough funds to secure these supplies.
Night fell.
With Duduâs quiet company, Chi Wan reflected on whether she had missed anything.
As she thought, it suddenly occurred to her: would her blood-bond with Chi Che also…
She stood up, pulling her clothes tight, and looked at her bed nervously.
“Chi Che…”
The room remained utterly silent.
Chi Wan let out a long breath of relief.
Good.
He hadn’t come.
The contract was completely severed.
She no longer had any ties to anyone.
Even so, Chi Wan found it difficult to sleep.
She tossed and turned, staring at the white ceiling in a daze for a long time.
After many thoughts, she finally drifted into a deep sleep.
Chi Wan had a dream.
This time, it wasn’t a lucid dream. She experienced her life as a third-party observerâthe life she was supposed to have before her destiny was stolen.
In the dream, the pollution mist seemed much thinner, and the light was warm.
Within the familiar Alliance barrier, Sentinels were smiling, full of anticipation.
“I heard sheâs the only SSS Guide in the galaxy, the pearl of the Chi family. Her mental entity is a silver phoenix!”
“A phoenix? Iâve only ever heard of those in legends!”
“Iâm so excited. What kind of Guide will she be?”
“Hey, look! Sheâs here!”
Outside the gates, a young woman with long, silver curly hair walked into the Alliance, her face bright and moving. Her posture was elegant, befitting a noble lady, her skirt fluttering like a fairy who had wandered into the mortal realm.
With just one look, Chi Wan covered her mouth as tears fell.
This was the life she was meant to live before everything was taken from her.
The version of herself raised on beauty and kindness was meant to be this radiant.
“Youâre the new Guide, Chi Wan?”
“Hello. I am the A1 Supreme Commander, Cang Lin. I look forward to working with you.”
The girl looked up with a soft smile.
“Youâre so tall, Commander Cang Lin.”
The smile was so moving that Cang Linâs golden eyes flickered. He grinned.
“Come, Iâll show you around the Alliance.”
“Are you the new Guide?”
A white-haired youth, bright and sunny as a beam of light, crashed straight into the girlâs heart.
“Shen Yu. Itâs a pleasure to meet you.”
Then the scene shifted. On the training grounds, Yun Qiâs focused training was interrupted by Pei Yuan.
“The new SSS Guide.”
He followed Pei Yuanâs dark gray gaze and saw that flash of silver.
Pei Yuan approached with his chain-blades in hand.
“Hello. K3 Base Commander, Pei Yuan.”
The girl seemed a bit startled by the sharp, piercing aura of the refined man in glasses. She pointed at his weapon.
“What is that?”
“Chain-blades. Want to learn? I can teach you.”
In a single lesson, his heart was already moved.
“Hey, Pei Yuan, stay away from her.”
He only laughed mindlessly, but his eyes wouldn’t leave her for a second.
The scene shifted again.
The girl had finally familiarized herself with the entire Alliance. She was invited to the very first meeting, where she listened intently and got along famously with the seven Commanders.
On her first mission, she was teamed with Qi Ye and Li Su. The silver phoenix soared, beautiful and courageousâa massive asset to the team. Both men were struck by her, falling for her then and there.
The Lion King and the Golden Dragon always protected her like she was the worldâs only precious treasure.
And the Silver Python always found every opportunity for physical intimacy, lingering and whispering her name in her ear.
The Eagle-Tiger was the best at competing, using any means necessary.
The Sea God, late to realize his feelings and unskilled with words, would nonetheless bow his noble head to beg for a sliver of the girlâs pity.
In a short time, all seven men were enamored with her to varying degrees.
They looked after her, protected her, and were jealous of one another.
At night, she often liked to go for rides with the cold, taciturn Commander on his Ghost Soul motorcycle. She would hide in his embrace to shield herself from the wind. Beyond the mental barrier, the roar of the engine became their music.
She looked up at him from his arms.
“Shi Ye, why do you always like to wear leather?”
“When I was young and fighting in matches, I was always covered in wounds. Tightening leather belts helped dull the pain.”
He looked down at her, the starlight in his eyes warm.
“I just got used to it.”
She hugged him tight. “With Little Phoenix here, it won’t hurt anymore.”
The bike screeched to a halt. He braced himself with one leg and pulled her close for a deep, fierce kiss.
The scenes continued to shift.
One beautiful moment after another flashed by.
The light in the dream was always bright and warm.
It felt as though this was the time Chi Wan had truly lived.
For a moment, she wasn’t even sure if she was dreaming.
When she opened her eyes to the darkness and the white ceiling, Chi Wan was stunned.
Coming back from that dream, she realized her pillow was soaked with tears.
It was just a dream.
