Chapter 121: The Successor
Xiao Ce looked into Hua Shan’s eyes, which were as dark and lifeless as a corpse, and knew that the man would not compromise.
“Go!”
He was, after all, a man in a high position.
How could Hua Shan be easily intimidated by a few words from Li Xuanyue?
He wanted this daughter of his to see with her own eyes that even if Li Feng arrived, she wouldn’t say a word against his actions.
Alarm flashed through the eyes of Li Xuanyue and the others.
Li Lan, in particular, hadn’t expected that Hua Shan would be so frantic as to disregard Li Xuanyue’s safety just to capture them.
“Retreat!”
Li Xuanyue quickly stepped back and commanded Li Lan, “Take him and get out of here now.”
At this critical juncture, they likely wouldn’t be able to escape together unscathed.
Hua Shan’s men were not about to give Li Lan that opportunity.
“Watch my blade!”
“Look out!”
Seeing Xiao Ce’s longsword thrusting toward Li Lan, Li Xuanyue rushed forward to block it.
Terrified, Xiao Ce hurriedly diverted the direction of his sword.
Hua Shan had only ordered them to capture the target.
He had never said they should actually take Li Xuanyue’s life.
If his sword truly pierced Li Xuanyue, Xiao Ce knew there would be hell to pay in the end.
“Master, what should we do now?”
Xiao Ce and his men wanted to capture the target, but they also didn’t want to harm Li Xuanyue.
Naturally, their movements became hesitant and restrained during the pursuit.
If this continued, they might not only fail to capture anyone but instead be held back by Li Xuanyue.
Li Xuanyue saw this clearly and led Li Lan and the others toward the route she had planned long ago.
“Follow them closely.”
Even though Hua Shan wanted to bring them back immediately, he couldn’t do it—he couldn’t find it in his heart to disregard Li Xuanyue’s safety.
This resulted in many people surrounding Li Xuanyue’s group, only to have them eventually slip through the fingers of these Phoenix Clan death soldiers.
The news of Li Xuanyue leaving the Phoenix Clan soon reached the ears of several Shi Jun.
Lang Hua, in particular, had nearly recovered since Liu Wuya had examined him and prescribed medicine.
He was currently preparing to take Feng Yi to the Fenghe Palace to see Li Xuanyue.
He also intended to ask her how the investigation into those matters was proceeding.
He never expected to learn the news that she had left the Phoenix Clan.
“Young Master, what should we do now?”
Feng Yi looked at Lang Hua with concern.
Although Lang Hua was no longer in any danger, the fact that he had ended up in that previous state was heavily related to Hua Shan.
Now that Li Xuanyue was no longer in the Phoenix Clan, staying behind would be extremely dangerous for them.
Lang Hua narrowed his eyes. “Let’s wait and see for now.”
“There might be some other truth behind this that we don’t know yet. Quickly send people down to investigate.”
Feng Yi didn’t dare disobey Lang Hua’s command.
“Yes.”
Investigating this matter alongside Lang Hua were Yao Guang and Yu Mian.
The two of them clearly didn’t believe Li Xuanyue would leave the Phoenix Clan so abruptly without any warning.
However, the people they sent out discovered nothing at all.
Unknowingly, the group ended up gathering together.
“Does Jun Shi Jun have any thoughts on this matter?”
This was the first time the five of them had gathered since Li Xuanyue’s departure.
Usually, they didn’t gather much in private.
Even when they did, there was little to talk about, and it usually ended on a sour note.
But now, Li Xuanyue’s departure had unified their hearts.
“Does Yu Shi Jun not already have an idea in his heart?”
Jun He’s deep voice resonated through the room.
“The Princess’s departure should only be temporary.”
His words struck the heart of the matter.
Li Xuanyue couldn’t truly leave the Phoenix Clan.
The reason she followed Li Lan out this time was simply due to the pressure of the situation.
Once she and Li Lan found a new place to settle—one safe enough for Hua Sang—she would return to the Phoenix Clan.
“From now on, do what you are supposed to do within the Phoenix Clan,” Jun He stated indifferently. “There is no need to ask too many questions.”
Right now, all of Hua Shan’s attention was focused on Li Xuanyue.
For Lang Hua and the others, this could be considered a good thing.
Otherwise, being constantly watched by Hua Shan’s men without Li Xuanyue’s protection, they might truly have died silent deaths within the Phoenix Clan.
Inside the Zhonghe Palace, Li Feng looked at Hua Shan with total incomprehension.
“Didn’t you say you would never hurt her?”
It would be a lie to say Li Feng wasn’t angry about Li Xuanyue’s departure.
She never dreamed that Hua Shan would personally force his own biological daughter to leave.
Did he even know what he was doing?
“You think my actions are hurting her?”
Facing Li Feng’s questioning, Hua Shan couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
“Do you know that Yue’er is no longer the person she used to be?”
Li Feng looked at Hua Shan with a confused gaze.
“What do you mean?”
Hua Shan rubbed the space between his brows. “Yue’er has grown up. She has her own ideas now and doesn’t trust just anyone.”
After this incident, Hua Shan knew that a rift had surely formed in Li Xuanyue’s heart toward him.
And this rift wasn’t something he could mend just by speaking.
Unless none of those previous events had ever happened, it would never heal.
“Then why did you force Hua Sang to come to the Phoenix Clan?”
Li Feng was not unaware of the things Hua Shan did behind her back.
But for the sake of their centuries of marriage, she never wanted their relationship to crack because of another man.
Yet now, Hua Shan had ruthlessly driven away his own biological daughter because of a man.
How could Li Feng not be angry?
“Do you know how dangerous it is outside right now?” she questioned sharply. “How many clans are staring at our Phoenix Clan?”
“Then do you know about Yue’er being poisoned?”
Hua Shan’s words were like a time bomb exploding in Li Feng’s mind.
“Yue’er was plotted against before. She needs the He Ding from the Crane Clan as a medicinal catalyst for her treatment.”
Watching Li Feng gradually calm down, Hua Shan slowly revealed the truth before her.
“And as for the person who could willingly sacrifice for her without asking for anything in return, I imagine he is the only one.”
Panic flashed in Li Feng’s eyes. “Even so, you shouldn’t have brought him to the Phoenix Clan.”
“Do you know how much harm your actions have caused me?”
“I don’t care. You must go and find Yue’er for me immediately.”
Li Feng didn’t have many children—only three.
Li Qinghe had already faked her death and been taken away by Zhao Huan.
Li Feng’s future successor could only be Li Xuanyue, and now even she had left.
How could Li Feng not be anxious?
Compared to Li Feng’s anxiety, Hua Shan appeared much calmer and more composed.
