Chapter 83: Entangled – Death Escape? Can You Blow Me Up? Part 1
Jiang Chenyan pressed his fingertips to his temple, his thin lips pursed into a cold, hard line.
“…”
Where did he see that I was anxious?
Shen Qing scrutinized Jiang Chenyan with a cold expression. “If I remember correctly, you are entangled with several Alphas. Alpha and Alpha?”
“Heh.” A light snort spilled from his throat, short and piercing.
Jiang Chenyan’s face turned several shades paler. He forcibly suppressed his displeasure.
The Alpha’s finger tapped the table nonchalantly, producing a crisp sound. A servant nearby understood the signal and stepped forward with an exquisite white porcelain teapot to fill the empty cup in front of Jiang Chenyan.
“Try it.” Shen Qing was expressionless, his tone flat and without ripples.
The tea set was made of top-quality mutton-fat jade. The tea was a clear, pale green, and the aroma was subtle. One could tell at a glance it was worth a fortune.
Jiang Chenyan vaguely remembered seeing this tea in a high-end tea appreciation post. it was a tribute tea with very low production, rarely seen by ordinary people.
He stared at the cup of tea, making no move for a long time.
“Afraid I’ve drugged it?” Shen Qing’s voice sounded again. As if seeing through his thoughts, he didn’t hide his mockery of Jiang Chenyan. “I didn’t expect you to be so cowardly.”
Jiang Chenyan was choked up. Is his mouth coated in medicine? It’s so poisonous.
Since this tea was precious, it would be a waste not to drink it. He took a deep breath, picked up the teacup, and tilted his head back to take a sip. He only felt that the tip of his tongue felt light; besides the faint astringent tea aroma, he couldn’t taste anything special.
By the time he set the teacup down, Jiang Chenyan had already tucked away all his emotions. A standard, almost fake smile was plastered on his face. “Thank you, Uncle.”
If possible, he wanted to splash the tea in Shen Qing’s face.
“I still want to explain clearly. I am not ‘entangled’ with Alphas. Or rather, the words ‘entangled’ are too ugly to describe my relationship with my classmates.” Jiang Chenyan said, “The majority of the school is Alpha. If I don’t interact with Alphas, am I supposed to interact with Omegas? I’d like to, but there are no Omegas in the school.”
Shen Qing leaned back lazily against the sofa, still enveloped in a faint sense of aloofness and coldness. His gaze rested calmly on Jiang Chenyan’s face. He didn’t interrupt, nor did he respond.
Until Jiang Chenyan finished speaking, he suddenly understood why Shen Shiyue would be different toward this person.
“I don’t object to you two being together.” Shen Qing didn’t bother to pretend anymore. As soon as he opened his mouth, he stomped all over Jiang Chenyan’s sore spots. “But since you are both Alphas, it’s fine to just play around for amusement. Don’t get emotionally involved, lest it becomes embarrassing in the end.”
Jiang Chenyan had just picked up his teacup to calm himself down. Hearing this, his hand jerked violently. A mouthful of hot tea almost choked his windpipe, and he began to cough violently.
“…”
He took a moment to recover. When he looked up, coldness had already solidified in his eyes. “What do you mean?”
Shen Qing kept his eyes lowered and didn’t speak.
Jiang Chenyan’s anger surged. He wanted to flip the table.
“Exactly what it sounds like.” Shen Qing raised an eyebrow. He could see that Jiang Chenyan was constantly holding back. How could that be? He added fuel to the fire, “Could it be that you two haven’t?”
“…”
Jiang Chenyan’s fingers tightened unconsciously.
Of course they had; not long ago, they had just confirmed their relationship.
He looked up, casting aside all disguises. Instead of getting angry, he laughed: “Then I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you. I like him, and we are truly in love.”
Now it was Shen Qing’s turn for his expression to change drastically. The mockery in his eyes solidified, replaced by a layer of gloom. He reminded Jiang Chenyan.
“My son will not marry you.”
Give up on that idea.
“I know.” Jiang Chenyan looked up, his expression incredibly calm. He even comforted Shen Qing, taking control of the conversation, “Don’t be angry, Uncle. Don’t get anxious.”
“I will marry him.”
Clang—
The sound of a porcelain cup hitting the floor and shattering rang out abruptly. Shen Qing had accidentally knocked over his cup. The servant was so scared he immediately rushed forward, kneeling on the floor to quickly clean up the shards. His head was bowed very low, not daring to breathe.
Jiang Chenyan should be lucky the cup hit the floor instead of his head.
The air solidified instantly, and a chill spread.
Jiang Chenyan knew perfectly well that his words were enough to sting Shen Qing, but he didn’t think he was wrong. What was wrong with marrying Shen Shiyue? Being together because of mutual love was the most important thing; who married whom was the same, wasn’t it?
“You have quite the nerve.” Shen Qing suddenly stood up, the air pressure around him extremely low. For the first time, he was this furious. He gave Jiang Chenyan a cold glance, no longer bothering to waste breath on him.
In the dead silence, a servant walked in lightly, leaned over, and whispered something in Shen Qing’s ear.
Shen Qing’s expression softened slightly. He asked in a deep voice: “Have they given the medicine?”
“Yes, Master. It has already been given,” the servant said respectfully.
Shen Qing didn’t linger. He took the overcoat the servant handed him, put it on efficiently, and turned to walk away, ignoring Jiang Chenyan completely.
The hall finally grew quiet. When Zhou Yi came in, his gaze immediately fell on several servants. “I’ll take over here. You all go handle other matters.”
The few people responded respectfully and retreated silently. The vast hall was instantly left with only two people.
He walked slowly toward the person who had remained seated throughout. This “ancestor” hadn’t given Shen Qing any face at all. With that kind of confrontation just now, he had likely offended the man deeply.
Jiang Chenyan nonchalantly tapped the casing of his light-brain. The moment the screen went dark, he looked up at Zhou Yi. “I just sent a message to Shen Shiyue saying I’m done here. I’ll be leaving first.”
He was afraid that if he stayed any longer, he would be driven mad by the Shen family. Of course, the Shen family would also be driven mad by him.
“Alright, I will see you out,” Zhou Yi responded. Just as he was about to say something more, he saw that Jiang Chenyan had already stood up.
Before he could even take two steps, a loud bang came from upstairs, sounding like a heavy object had slammed into a door.
Following that, an old voice full of fury came through the floorboards. Although it carried the hoarseness of age, it was still full of vigor: “Try being stubborn again!”
Jiang Chenyan was startled. He paused his steps abruptly. As if sensing something, he instinctively turned to exchange a glance with Zhou Yi.
Without waiting for Zhou Yi to reach out and stop him, he quickly walked toward the stairs. He was worried something had happened to Shen Shiyue.
Fearing that something else would go wrong, Zhou Yi followed him quickly.
The moment his gaze touched the scene upstairs, Jiang Chenyan’s pupils shrank. He was completely stunned.
Shen Shiyue was collapsed wretchedly on the floor. A large patch of dark red blood had already seeped through the chest area of his black inner shirt, snaking along the fabric. it was a shocking sight.
The person who had been so lively just now was as pale as paper. Cold sweat broke out on his brow, and his lips were pursed into a bloodless line. He was in great pain, yet he didn’t even let out a grunt.
Not far away, Shen Fan stood by coldly.
Jiang Chenyan’s eyes were full of disbelief, and his heart stung.
The old man before him was almost identical to the descriptions in the fanfic and the original novel. The disfiguring scars on his face remained, but he had added the suffocating sense of oppression unique to those in power. He was no longer an ordinary Beta, but a solid top-rank Alpha.
Invisible pressure surged continuously, making Jiang Chenyan’s breathing tighten.
The system’s words from before clearly surfaced in his mind, every sentence piercing his nerves: [In order to establish the ‘beautiful, strong, yet miserable’ setting of the protagonist shou, the family’s discipline is very strict.]
It turned out that behind that light sentence was such a bone-chilling reality.
Seeing someone burst in—and it was Jiang Chenyan—the old man’s fury burned even brighter. The cane in his hand slammed down once again toward Shen Shiyue on the floor.
