Part 2
The young man reached out to pat Luo Shizhen’s head, but halfway there, he froze as if feeling some intense pressure.
His gaze shifted toward Sui An, who had just stepped out of the car. He gave a dry laugh and quickly retracted his hand.
“Captain Sui, you’re here, too”.
What a pity. He didn’t dare touch a cub protected by such a powerful predator.
Sui An looked toward the distant area where rumbling sounds were echoing. “Isn’t it a Rank 7 Bizarre? Is it that hard to deal with?”
“Yeah. It clearly detected as Rank 7, but when the fighting started, its strength far exceeded that. I’m the weakest, so I got blown away”.
The young man, still wearing his combat headset, finished answering Sui An and then spoke in a low voice, “Captain, it’s Captain Sui and the students. They happened to be passing by”.
Hua Yi’s irritable voice came through the headset: “Tell Sui An to come help! This Bizarre is wrong!”
Sui An heard him perfectly clearly and gazed toward the distant, chaotic battlefield.
With his vision, he could clearly see how overwhelmed the Guillotine team was.
Something was indeed wrong.
A Rank 7 Bizarre shouldn’t be something the Guillotine squad couldn’t handle.
Sui An narrowed his eyes, and threads of spiritual power wound around the students, encircling them in a protective ring.
The young man looked at him in surprise. “Captain Sui, if you use most of your spiritual power to protect the students, won’t your combat strength be drained?”
The ability of a Controller was spiritual manipulation; the more spiritual power they had, the stronger they were.
Sui An was practically building a house out of spiritual power for these students. Would he still have enough left to deal with the Bizarre?
“It’s enough”.
Sui An raised his hand, and a massive surge of spiritual power, like vines, shot toward the battlefield. Each thread carried a terrifying killing intent as they wound around the Rank 7 Bizarre currently in combat.
He frowned. “Is that a human He is holding?”
Hua Yi’s voice came through: “Yes. He’s in a relationship with that human. The guy is Zou Tangzheng’s biological son”.
Sui An: “? A relationship gone wrong? Hatred born from love?”
The young man added, “Ethics, morality… from the surface, it looks like this Bizarre kidnapped Zou Tangzheng because he didn’t agree to their being together. Zou Lin’s sister and brother-in-law were also kidnapped. We followed that lead to find them”.
While they chatted, their movements didn’t stop. Protected by Sui An’s spiritual power, Luo Shizhen watched as another explosion thundered nearby, creating more large craters in the ground, followed by yet another blast.
Several High-Rank Guardians were attacking frequently, moving so fast they appeared as mere afterimages. It was impossible to see them clearly.
“So powerful”.
Luo Shizhen gazed at his seniors with admiration. “So this is what High-Rank is like”.
Chu Xiao’s tone was flat. “They are older than us, after all. We’ll be like that in the future, too”.
Luo Shizhen nodded expectantly, his eyes fixed on this battle between High-Ranks.
Once Sui An joined, the Rank 7 Bizarre quickly found Himself unable to hold His ground. He was bombarded by spiritual power until He was covered in bloody blossoms. On His exquisite human face, cracks gradually began to appear as He lost His strength.
Like a ceramic doll shattering, the human skin was peeled away, revealing surges of black aura within.
He plummeted onto a tree, yet He didn’t seem panicked in the slightest. The tree began to burn violently from the roots up.
Hua Yi was about to step forward, but Sui An pulled him back with a frown. “Something’s wrong. This fire can burn spiritual power. Try long-range attacks”.
Amidst the flames, Zou Lin—whom He had been protecting—recovered his clarity from his dazed state because the Bizarre had lost His strength.
The moment he opened his eyes, Zou Lin screamed in terror, “Qing Huang! Your—your face! Ah!! Fire!! Why is there so much fire?!”
Seeing his lover’s face peeling away, Zou Lin’s instinctive fear turned into repulsion. “Let me go!! Let me go!!”
“Gege, are you afraid of me?”
The youth known as Qing Huang looked at the human in confusion. “How could you be afraid of me? I’m Qing Huang”.
“Get away!! Monster!! Get away!!!”
More and more cracks appeared on Qing Huang’s face, yet He continued to smile innocently. As He smiled, chunks of skin fell away. His tone remained gentle.
“I understand. You’re only acting this way because others were blocking us. Look…”
He pointed downward. Zou Lin looked over tremblingly and saw his father, sister, and brother-in-law.
The three people had the exact same dazed expressions, with large holes in the tops of their heads and vacant smiles on their faces. They were repeating a single phrase over and over:
“You will definitely be happy with Qing Huang.”
“You will definitely be happy with Qing Huang.”
“You and Qing Huang…”
Zou Lin watched this scene in horror. “Dad… Sister…”
“Monster! What did you do to my family?!”
Qing Huang tilted His head. “Gege, why are you angry? Weren’t you worried they wouldn’t like me? See, they like me very much now. They’ve all agreed to us being together”.
“Why are you afraid? Was I not good enough to you? You said you hated your superior and wished he were dead—didn’t I kill him for you? But Gege, why are you still so unfaithful? How could you sneak around with someone else behind my back?”
Zou Lin trembled violently. “You—you… you know already. You did this on purpose to get back at me. I was wrong, Qing Huang! I shouldn’t have cheated. I really know I was wrong! Let me go, and let my family go, okay?!”
“Gege, you’ve misunderstood. I would never be angry with you. It’s only natural for you to have others around you”.
Qing Huang opened His hand, and a mass of black aura enveloping a human heart appeared before Zou Lin.
“However, someone too weak simply won’t do. He can’t protect Gege”.
He gave a crisp laugh. “Guess whose heart this is?”
Zou Lin shook all over.
Qing Huang smiled sweetly. “Yes, it’s that A-Du. He even called me, telling me to step aside. Humans really are foolish creatures—so fragile, yet so bold. Gege, he wasn’t worth your affection”.
“Gege, you’re still so unfaithful. That makes me very happy. I knew you hadn’t changed. Even in this human shell, you’re still you”.
He rubbed against Zou Lin’s cheek. “These Guardians have some skill. I have to leave now, but I’ll come back for you. Before that, I want to leave some power with you”.
Zou Lin didn’t even dare look at Him. “What are you talking about… I’m human. You’ve got the wrong person… Uh—”
He watched as Qing Huang tore off His own arm and stuffed it into Zou Lin’s mouth, a sweet smile still on His face:
“Eat, Gege. Once I’ve recovered, I’ll find you with even better food”.
“Don’t go looking for anyone else, okay? I can keep you full”.
Zou Lin had no idea what He was talking about. Even now, he thought that Qing Huang had turned on him because of his infidelity.
How could he beg for mercy so Qing Huang would let him go…
At the final moment before his consciousness was annihilated, Zou Lin was still pondering this question.
The flames roared, but Zou Lin suddenly stopped moving.
Qing Huang looked at the youth who had died from devouring the pollution and gave him a nudge.
“You’re dead?”
“How could you possibly be dead?!”
“Not Gege… you actually aren’t Gege! The mark! What happened to the mark?!”
He frantically tore open Zou Lin’s clothes and looked at the black mark on the back of his neck.
The mark was still there, but how could Gege die from just a bit of pollution?
The only possibility was that Zou Lin was not the person He was looking for.
Qing Huang tossed aside Zou Lin’s corpse, His face shifting through several expressions.
It was a literal shifting, as the human mask on His face had completely fallen away.
“Not Gege…”
Qing Huang no longer looked human. He looked like a mass of black mist speaking human words.
“Impossible…”
Why would the mark He had left for Gege be on an ordinary human?
That mark was something He had engraved on Gege’s soul; as long as the soul remained, the mark should be on Gege himself.
Had Gege really died… no, impossible.
