Chapter 128: Shuohan Gege
Another year later, on a Monday morning, Ye Zhile scrambled out of bed and ran to Dudu’s room. He woke the little one still sleeping in bed, coaxing him gently, “Dudu, wake up. You’re going to be late for school.”
“I know, Mama…” Dudu rubbed his eyes and got up. “Where’s Papa?”
“Papa already went to work.” As he spoke, Ye Zhile helped him dress; Dudu climbed out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up himself.
Ye Zhile also went back to his room to change; after washing up and eating breakfast with Dudu, he dropped him off at the kindergarten.
At the gates of the Bilingual International Kindergarten, the teachers greeted them with gentle smiles. Ye Zhile was full of apologies. “Sorry, I forgot to wake him up.”
“It’s no problem, Mr. Ye.” The teacher was a very gentle Omega who took Dudu’s hand. “Dudu, say goodbye to Mama.”
“Goodbye, Mama.” Dudu waved his small hand.
“Goodbye.”
Watching Dudu go inside, Ye Zhile returned home; he took a nap before heading to work.
Ji Shuohan went to pick up Dudu in the afternoon; Dudu saw him the moment he stepped out of the school gates and ran toward him. “Papa!”
Ji Shuohan scooped him up. “Were you late today?”
“How did Papa know?” Dudu hugged his neck.
Ji Shuohan laughed. “Mama called and told me. Next time, set a little alarm clock yourself. Mama likes to sleep in; he can’t get up.”
“Okay~” Dudu agreed somewhat reluctantly. He didn’t like the nanny or Grandpa Xu dropping him off; he wanted Mama to do it—Mama was beautiful and gentle, and the other kids always told him how pretty his Mama was.
Ji Shuohan knew his little thoughts and said, “Then how about Papa drops you off from now on? Papa is also very handsome.”
“Deal!” Dudu agreed immediately.
When they got home, Ji Shuohan did the cooking himself. Because Ye Zhile loved his cooking, he would make it himself whenever he had time; by the time dinner was ready, Ye Zhile was nearly home.
“Where is Papa going?” Dudu sat on the sofa and watched Ji Shuohan walk toward the door after coming downstairs. He said, “I’m going to the gate to meet Mama.”
“Oh!” Dudu followed right behind him.
As soon as Ye Zhile stepped out of the car, he saw the big and small figures coming out. He threw himself into Ji Shuohan’s arms, jumping up to wrap his arms around his neck. “Did the Leader miss me~”
“I did.” Ji Shuohan kissed his lips.
“I missed the Leader too, hehe~” Ye Zhile returned the kiss.
“I missed Mama too~” Dudu looked up with his small head.
Seeing this, Ye Zhile got down and cupped Dudu’s face. “Mama missed the baby too~”
There were four dishes and a soup; usually, Ye Zhile would eat a lot, but recently—perhaps because the weather was too hot—he didn’t have much of an appetite. He didn’t eat much before going to play with Dudu.
Dudu’s personality was exactly as cute as the young Zhile Ji Shuohan had met at the birthday banquet; he had round eyes, a pointed little face, and a shy yet spirited manner. When Ye Zhile teased him into giggling, he was practically a carbon copy.
Ji Shuohan came over and sat down, watching Ye Zhile’s smiling eyes; Ye Zhile’s appearance hadn’t changed much—he was still as beautiful and cute as ever, and so was his personality.
Ji Shuohan said, “Our son is already four, yet you’re still the same as before, as if you haven’t grown at all.”
“Hehe.” Ye Zhile beamed at the praise, but then acted coy. “If you praise me like that, I’ll get shy.”
Ji Shuohan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Do I not praise you enough?”
Ye Zhile laughed and leaned into his chest. “That’s why I’m shy.”
“…” Ji Shuohan looked at his haughty expression. “All I see written on your face is ‘You certainly have good taste’.”
Ye Zhile pursed his lips and squinted at him, his little expression both annoying and adorable.
Ji Shuohan couldn’t help but lean down to kiss him before picking him up.
Ye Zhile hugged him. “What are you doing?”
“It’s time to rest,” Ji Shuohan said.
Ye Zhile glanced at the clock. “Big Brother, who goes to sleep at eight o’clock?”
“Who are you calling ‘Big Brother’? Since when are we brothers?” Ji Shuohan looked serious.
Ye Zhile pursed his lips, his eyes darting around as he asked back, “Is it really not allowed? Gege?”
Ji Shuohan paused and looked down; the Omega in his arms was gloating, enjoying himself immensely. “Gege? Shuohan Gege…”
Ye Zhile looked at him innocently. “Can I call you that, Gege?”
Ji Shuohan didn’t speak, but his eyes looked incredibly dangerous; however, Ye Zhile saw the smile he couldn’t suppress at the corners of his mouth. He exposed him. “If you want to laugh, just laugh. Don’t go crazy with joy.”
With that, Ji Shuohan buried his face in the crook of Ye Zhile’s neck and chuckled; after a moment, he looked up. “Say it again.”
“Shuohan Gege…” Ye Zhile complied, and the sound made Ji Shuohan’s entire body tingle, as if a current of electricity had passed through him.
The power of that “Shuohan Gege” was truly immense.
Ji Shuohan placed him on the bed, but Ye Zhile grabbed his hand. “Dudu is still downstairs.”
“The nanny will tell him to go to sleep.”
Lights out—
A month later, during a company break, Ye Zhile stayed at home eating, drinking, and sleeping; meanwhile, Ji Shuohan and Dudu—one busy with work, the other with school—left him as the most idle person in the house. Having nothing to do, he decided to bring lunch to Ji Shuohan.
Ji Shuohan had just finished a meeting and saw him the moment he returned to his office. He smiled. “The Leader’s Spouse has graced us with his presence. Why didn’t you tell me beforehand?”
“To give you a surprise.” Ye Zhile walked over carrying a lunchbox, seeking credit. “I made it!”
“You’re that capable? You know how to cook now?” Ji Shuohan was overjoyed.
“I had Auntie Zhang teach me. The quality might not be great, but there’s plenty of it.” As Ye Zhile spoke, he opened the food container.
Ji Shuohan looked at the charred meat slices and raised an eyebrow. “This is?”
“This is beef! Stir-fried beef!” Ye Zhile said excitedly.
Ji Shuohan took a deep breath. “Baby has really worked hard.”
“You’re welcome. Eat up!” Ye Zhile’s smile was innocent and pure, but Ji Shuohan felt like he was being fed poison.
Ji Shuohan took a piece and put it in his mouth; it didn’t taste as bad as he had imagined—it was just too dry and overcooked, taking him a long time to chew and swallow.
“Is it good?” Ye Zhile asked expectantly. Ji Shuohan picked up a piece for him. “Try some?”
Just as Ye Zhile was about to open his mouth to eat, he caught a whiff of the fishy smell and suddenly felt like vomiting; he quickly turned his head away and gagged.
“Are you okay?” Ji Shuohan rubbed his back.
“I knew it must taste bad.” Ye Zhile had a mournful look on his face.
Ji Shuohan suppressed a laugh. “Why?”
“The smell made me vomit, so how could it be good?” Ye Zhile glanced at him, and hearing Ji Shuohan unable to hold back his laughter, he gave a light “Hmph.”
During dinner that evening, Ye Zhile’s appetite was poor; after only a few bites, he leaned against Ji Shuohan and muttered, “My stomach feels uncomfortable…”
“Does it hurt?” Ji Shuohan held him, pouring warm water to soothe him. Ye Zhile shook his head. “Just bloated.”
“Shall we see a doctor?” Ji Shuohan coaxed him.
“No, it’s just a little uncomfortable.” It wasn’t serious; Ye Zhile was simply used to being pampered and wanted to act spoiled.
“Then if it hurts, we go to the doctor?” Ji Shuohan asked carefully. Seeing Ye Zhile give a small nod, he kissed his forehead. “So good.”
Ye Zhile’s stomach wasn’t serious and felt better after a while, so neither of them considered it a major issue. This lasted until the next morning when Ye Zhile was leaning over the sink vomiting; he even vomited after eating breakfast.
Only then did Ji Shuohan realize what was happening; his hand rubbing Ye Zhile’s back paused, and Ye Zhile looked at him too.
Then he looked at his own stomach…
“Then… congratulations to me?” Ji Shuohan raised an eyebrow.
“And congratulations to me?” Ye Zhile was dazed.
Ji Shuohan’s lips curled into a smile as he pulled Ye Zhile into his arms and stroked his head. “This time, I will protect Zhile well and won’t let him suffer even a little bit.”
“Okay~” Ye Zhile replied.
Later, Ji Shuohan took a year of leave and took perfect care of Ye Zhile, ensuring he didn’t suffer a single grievance; of course, it was impossible for him to ever let him suffer again in the future.
