The Cannon Fodder Omega’s Mental Power is Off the Charts [Transmigration] Chapter 23.2

Part 2

He wasn’t sure if he was just being paranoid because of the new environment, but he felt a strange, ill-intentioned gaze on him. Yet, when he reached the door, there was no one in sight.

His room was still a special ward, and the corridor didn’t have the constant foot traffic of the general inpatient area. He shouldn’t be having such hallucinations.

Considering his physical state, Yu Xia retreated, paced by the door for a few steps, and then suddenly swung the door open again.

Unfortunately, he still found nothing.

Yu Xia finally closed the door for good, scratching his head. “Am I really just overthinking things?”

Lately, under Major General Ning’s basic training, his application of mental power had become quite decent. He shouldn’t be making this kind of mistake.

After this incident, he lost the urge to enter the virtual world. He felt that putting on a helmet and projecting his consciousness into a virtual space while leaving his physical body vulnerable in a strange place was simply too unsafe.

A moment after Yu Xia shut his door, two figures emerged from the shadows of the corridor. One was the nurse who had performed Yu Xia’s checkup earlier.

Beside her stood a man in a white doctor’s coat, though his expression was dark and gloomy. He let out a cold sneer toward Yu Xia’s closed door and asked the nurse, “Is that him? Is the information accurate?”

The nurse nodded respectfully. “It’s him. I just got the word. He just arrived at Capital Star, brought here by Wen Lun. Supposedly, his mental power is SSS-rank, but his constitution is poor—only D+. He has a Level 5 Mental Power Disorder. I suggested a mental power test today during his checkup, but they said he’d just had one and couldn’t repeat it so soon. With others around, I couldn’t do much else.”

“SSS-rank… the Empire has certainly been producing talents lately. Keep a close eye on him. If you can find a chance to give him a mental power test, do it. If not, make sure to get your hands on his mental power report. SSS-rank is rare; he’s a scarce talent.”

The nurse nodded. “Understood.”

Once their conversation ended, the doctor and nurse turned and left as if nothing had happened, as if they had never stood outside that ward door.

Meanwhile, on the other side of that very door, Yu Xia was crouched on the floor. He let out a small “tsk.” “I knew my mental power control was too polished to make a mistake like that. Trying to hide from my senses? Hah!”

As he spoke, he gently tapped the light screen of the robot that had crouched down beside him. “Did you record what those two said?”

The brand-new little robot seemed very satisfied with its task, puffing out its mechanical chest with pride. “Mission accomplished perfectly.”

Yu Xia smiled, using the robot as support to stand up. He was still weak from the checkup. Leaning against the wall, he said to the little robot, “When Professor Wen arrives, give the recording to him, okay?”

The robot’s metal head bobbed up and down in a comical fashion, its voice rhythmic and deliberate. “Understood. Mission completion guaranteed.”

Professor Wen moved quickly and arrived that afternoon. The first thing he did upon entering the hospital was record the finalized medical records. “Your mental power report is finished. If anything happens, let me know.”

Yu Xia gestured, and the robot immediately rolled over. “Actually, something did happen…”

Since Yu Xia had been inside the room, the robot couldn’t record the two people’s appearances through the door. Consequently, Professor Wen didn’t see a video, only an audio recording. But the audio alone was enough to turn his face incredibly grim.

Professor Wen let out a cold laugh. “They certainly move fast. Don’t worry, Yu Xia. We will deal with them. We just need to verify their voiceprints. However, since you’ve already encountered them, I should warn you—once news of your SSS-rank mental power leaks out, there will only be more people like this. You must be extra careful.”

Yu Xia gave Professor Wen an “OK” gesture. “Don’t worry, I understand!”

September 1st. Opening Day.

Wave after wave of new students poured in, gathering at the main gates of Imperial Star Academy.

Welcoming new students earned a student credits. Compared to other methods, this was one of the easiest ways to earn credits at the academy. Furthermore, it allowed students to see the fresh faces of their juniors. Thus, it was an activity many upperclassmen flocked to. If one could land a date with a sweet Omega during the process, all the better.

However, the presence of one particular individual made everyone else dissatisfied, though they didn’t dare speak up.

His companion, Luo Siqi, let out a long yawn, looking lazy as he grumbled to those around him. “I say, Old Qin, why are you here so early to welcome newbies? You aren’t short on credits. And your Command Department is strictly harsh; there’s a high probability no Omega has the constitution to get into your department anyway. What exactly are you doing here?”

The people nearby nodded in agreement.

Exactly! What are you doing here so early, Qin Yizheng, stealing all the attention of our juniors?

Qin Yizheng straightened his collar and adjusted his cuffs, ensuring his Command Department uniform didn’t have a single wrinkle. Only then did he relax his mind and look toward the main gate. “I’m here specifically to meet someone.”

He had received news a few days ago that Yu Xia was coming to Capital Star.

Originally, he had planned to tidy himself up and play the host, giving Yu Xia a proper welcome. If Yu Xia had nowhere to stay before school started, he could have even stayed at his house. However, fate was unkind. He only learned that Yu Xia had been admitted to a certain hospital on Capital Star and that someone at that hospital was sniffing around for information on Yu Xia’s mental power. To ensure his safety, Yu Xia had never logged on again.

Not even once.

As the “Last Online” time after Yu Xia’s name grew longer and longer, Qin Yizheng’s irritability became visible to the naked eye.

Capital Star was an exceptionally prosperous planet that many sought to reach. But at the same time, this planet was riddled with hidden dangers, especially for someone with mental power as formidable as Yu Xia’s.

The moment Yu Xia set foot on Capital Star, those who needed to know had received the news. Countless people were wondering if they could coax him into their service in the future.

How long had he even been on Capital Star before someone appeared in front of him?

Who was that person, and had anything happened to Yu Xia?

He couldn’t get any information. He didn’t even know which hospital Yu Xia was in. He could only wait anxiously for school to start.

Once school started, Yu Xia would have to show up!

Besides their agreement to meet on opening day, this was the reason he had shown up at the academy gates so early, dressed so immaculately and conspicuously—he wanted to ensure he could be seen in the crowd at a single glance.

Hearing Qin Yizheng’s answer, the others didn’t feel any better, but Luo Siqi’s interest was piqued. “Who is it? Who could possibly make you come out specifically to meet them?”

Qin Yizheng glanced at Luo Siqi and gave him three words. “The Tulip.”

Luo Siqi suddenly realized. “Oh! So you’re sure he got into Imperial Star? Wait, with his mental power, even if he didn’t make it into the Mechanical Department, he’d likely be reassigned to another major. Getting into the academy wasn’t a problem. But even if it’s Tulip, there’s no need to be here so early. He’s an adult; it’s just a registration.”

Qin Yizheng raised an eyebrow with dissatisfaction. “I’m here because I want to meet him. Why are you here?”

Are you here just to be an eyesore? Once Yu Xia finished the registration process, he planned to take him around Capital Star. If they could go on a date along the way, that would be even better.

Though they had “dated” in the virtual world, it wasn’t as real as reality.

Luo Siqi was momentarily choked, hearing the underlying meaning in Qin Yizheng’s words.

Just then, a hovercar pulled into the hovercar lane at the academy entrance. With two “beeps,” it was cleared for entry.

However, the hovercar didn’t pull away immediately. Instead, a person stepped out from inside.

Carrying a backpack, he waved to the car and then stood at the school gate, looking around as if searching for someone.

The hovercar then sped away with a whoosh.

Seeing the person, Luo Siqi tugged at Qin Yizheng’s sleeve. “Qin-ge, Qin-ge! It’s a good-looking Omega. Do you think if I go up now, he’ll give me his communication ID? He probably will, right? I’m not bad-looking myself…”
