Chapter 74: Intense Possessiveness
Mu Feng’s back stiffened instantly.
When did Liang Yuhang mean by the “original” pheromones?
He swallowed, playing dumb. “What do you mean? I don’t understand.”
“It wasn’t this scent.” Liang Yuhang reminded him bluntly, “The first time you came to my house and unfastened your bracelet—that was your original pheromone.”
Mu Feng hadn’t expected his memory to be this good.
Back then, they hardly knew each other. That was the only time he had leaked his Alpha pheromones, just once.
He didn’t dare speak, afraid that Liang Yuhang would press further.
“So, using fake pheromones today—was it because you were afraid our compatibility wasn’t high enough?” Liang Yuhang sniffed him lightly. “There’s no need for that.”
“I’m sorry.” Mu Feng turned around and looked up at him. “I can’t give you my pheromones. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s that I can’t.”
Liang Yuhang vaguely sensed that something was wrong.
But during their previous close-combat practice, Mu Feng’s pheromones had smelled exactly the same as they did now, just with less aggression.
He was clearly an Omega.
If those were fake too, then his talent for pharmacology was simply god-tier.
“I didn’t insist on pheromones.” Liang Yuhang smiled. “Am I the kind of Alpha who can only get through a rut with an Omega?”
Mu Feng’s lips moved, hesitant and unsure.
He had lied to Liang Yuhang and didn’t know how to confess. Could the man accept an Alpha as a partner? He didn’t dare to gamble.
“What are you thinking about?” Liang Yuhang didn’t press him. “Borrowing the lab this afternoon just for this? Misusing public resources for personal gain.”
Mu Feng felt a bit frustrated. “I just wanted you to feel better. I even made a reagent with high compatibility.”
“I don’t like it. Don’t use it anymore.” Liang Yuhang felt the boy was so obedient. Not knowing how to please others, he could only offer up all his compliance in a clumsy way.
Mu Feng lowered his head, pulled two glass vials from his pocket, and threw them into the trash can nearby, looking indignant.
Liang Yuhang found it amusing. “Who are you losing your temper with?”
“With myself.” Mu Feng said crossly, “It’s so annoying. My technique is so poor that you saw right through it immediately.”
It was all because this lab lacked reagents. If they were at the base, he could have created a scent that was identical and undetectable.
Liang Yuhang chuckled softly. “Should I coax you then?”
Mu Feng snapped wide awake. Good heavens, Liang Yuhang is definitely possessed. Is this something he would say?
“N-No need.” He felt his tongue tying in knots. “The… the gathering tonight… they wanted you to come. Do you want to go?”
Liang Yuhang said, “I won’t. I have reports to finish. You go ahead.”
Mu Feng gave an “oh.” After all that effort, the man was still uncomfortable.
He sighed. “Then I’m going. Message me if you need anything.”
Liang Yuhang nodded, sat in his swivel chair, and lowered his head to start working.
Mu Feng didn’t want to disturb him and turned to leave. As he walked, he muttered with annoyance, “Almost got caught. Scared me to death.”
But Liang Yuhang said he liked his pheromones. What did that mean?
Rounding it up, it meant he liked him!
Oh, maybe that was rounding up a bit too much.
Mu Feng pondered for a while before managing to coax himself into a good mood. “It counts as progress, anyway. Not a loss.”
He went downstairs to the gathering place. After several days of high-intensity rescue work, the group of students looked half-dead.
“How can you look so refreshed? You must be having hallucinations from the abuse.” Even the usually energetic Zhou Tiantian looked like he’d aged ten years. “I’m so sleepy. I’m going to sleep for five hours tonight to catch up.”
“Is that something a human would say? I’d drop dead on the spot if I only slept five hours.” Jiang Yu’an shook his head.
The boy next to them spoke up, “Mu Feng, I didn’t realize you were so impressive before. I should learn from you in the future.”
The speaker was Zhao Cheng, who had ranked first in the first minor exam but had been pushed to second in the second one.
Jiang Yu’an said with a sense of pride, “Of course. Our Mu Bao is naturally brilliant. He was just pretending to be a dummy before.”
“Why pretend?” Zhao Cheng was curious. “Don’t you think it feels great to be first?”
Jiang Yu’an reacted slowly. “Yeah, why pretend?”
Suddenly, a dozen pairs of eyes were fixed on Mu Feng. He coughed lightly. “It wasn’t that dramatic. My mind just wasn’t on studying before.”
“Where was it then? Dating?” Zhao Cheng said with a smile. “It’s a pity you got engaged so early.”
Mu Feng waved his hands repeatedly. “Not really. The engagement was an accident.”
At that, the topic instantly shifted from studying to gossip. Zhao Cheng asked again, “Still, it feels like you and Professor Liang aren’t very close. You don’t even have engagement rings.”
“We aren’t close at all,” Jiang Yu’an said as he munched on his food. “Just making do.”
Zhou Tiantian nudged him and contradicted him, “Actually, they’re very affectionate. Before coming to eat, they were having an intense kiss in the office.”
Mu Feng: ?????
Even though Liang Yuhang approved your coming here, you don’t need to return the favor by making up rumors like this, right?
“Intense kiss?” Jiang Yu’an’s voice rose three octaves.
“No!” Mu Feng’s face turned red as he refuted the rumor on the spot. “We’re very innocent. None of that happened.”
Zhao Cheng looked thoughtful. “Was it a forced alliance by your family? One you didn’t really like? My parents tried to arrange one for me too, but I refused. If you don’t like it, you should have rebelled early.”
Mu Feng: “………”
Rebel against what, brother? I’m thanking the heavens for this.
He said vaguely, “I’m not rebelling. I’m fine with it.”
But in the other’s eyes, he became a piteous, submissive Omega who evoked sympathy.
Midway through, Mu Feng came out of the restroom and ran into Zhao Cheng at the door.
He gave a polite smile, sensing that the other wanted to say something. He tilted his head and asked, “Is something the matter, Zhao?”
“If you want to break the engagement, I can help you,” Zhao Cheng said. “I noticed you during the first exam. Your score-control technique is very high-level; most people wouldn’t be able to tell.”
Mu Feng blinked. “And?”
Zhao Cheng smiled. “I like smart people. You can take that as me having feelings for you.”
Mu Feng: ????
I can attract a suitor even with a sixty percent score? Is the world crazy?
He gave a slight twitch of his lips and walked toward the door. “Zhao, I’m already engaged. It’s inappropriate for you to say this to someone who’s about to be married.”
“You aren’t married yet, are you? Besides, I can see that Professor Liang doesn’t like you much,” Zhao Cheng said. “Marriage should be with someone you love, not an arrangement by your parents.”
Mu Feng’s scalp tingled. “No, I’m perfectly willing.”
“He didn’t even buy you an engagement ring,” Zhao Cheng said. “I don’t think he takes this relationship seriously at all.”
“Digging under someone’s feet right in front of them?” a voice came from around the corner.
Mu Feng looked up and saw a tall silhouette emerging from the shadows. His heart skipped a beat.
When the light hit him, he saw Liang Yuhang’s face. Next to him were several high-ranking military officials; they had clearly just finished a discussion.
“Professor Liang, why are you here?” Mu Feng felt like he hadn’t done anything, but he still felt guilty, as if he’d been caught having an affair.
How much had he heard?
“If I hadn’t come, my fiancé would have been poached.” Liang Yuhang’s voice was flat. “My dear student, are you still making time for romance even in a war zone?”
The commander next to him laughed and teased, “Colonel Liang’s ‘wife’ is just too popular. After all, he’s both capable and beautiful. It’s only normal.”
Zhao Cheng didn’t look guilty at all for being caught. He said candidly, “I was just expressing my thoughts and encouraging Mu Feng to pursue true love and freedom.”
Liang Yuhang raised an eyebrow slightly. “He said he’s willing.”
“That’s because you’re forcing him.” Zhao Cheng frowned. “He’s so much younger than you; he’s probably too scared of you to say anything.”
Liang Yuhang didn’t speak, he just looked at Mu Feng.
“No, I’m perfectly willing.” Mu Feng felt overwhelmed, not knowing how to prove it. “Zhao, do I look like I’m suffering?”
Zhao Cheng nodded. “A bit. You don’t look intimate at all.”
Mu Feng didn’t feel the need to fall into the trap of self-justification, but he was very dissatisfied with the other’s speculation and wrinkled his nose.
Liang Yuhang reached out, squeezed the back of his neck, and slowly slid his hand down. “How intimate do you want us to be?”
The back of Mu Feng’s neck went numb instantly, and he felt that patch of skin growing hot.
“And we don’t need to prove anything to you,” Liang Yuhang said flatly.
Alphas were very good at sensing each other’s hostility. At this moment, Zhao Cheng felt that the Alpha in his rut was on the verge of extreme displeasure.
He swallowed. “You don’t need to prove it to me, but please be better to Mu Feng, or else…”
“Or else you plan to step in?” Liang Yuhang swept a glance at him. “You aren’t qualified.”
Zhao Cheng opened his mouth, but was suppressed by the other’s aura and didn’t say a word.
Mu Feng’s entire heart felt numb.
Even if it was an act, he felt a great sense of pleasure at this moment; Liang Yuhang was declaring his ownership.
“Let’s go, Mu Feng.” Liang Yuhang gave the back of his neck a light push.
Mu Feng followed him out with light steps. He hadn’t been drinking, but he felt dizzy. “I thought you were in your office. Why did you come out?”
“If I hadn’t, my fiancé would be gone.”
“He was just talking nonsense. Everyone’s under a lot of pressure these days, so they start babbling. Don’t take it seriously.”
Liang Yuhang lowered his eyes, feeling only displeasure.
His possessiveness toward Mu Feng seemed to be a bit more than he had imagined.
Liang Yuhang turned around, grabbed the boy’s hand, and measured the size of his ring finger. He said in a low voice, “It’s time to put something on it.”
