Chapter 105: Chi Yuheng, Don’t Force Me to Use Interrogation and Torture
The doctor on duty today was exceptionally busy, having received quite a few patients. Aside from that suspected concussion from hitting a tree earlier in the evening—which was a minor issue—the rest weren’t easy to resolve.
He had just finished with the previous patient and hadn’t even had a sip of water when another one with a knife wound arrived.
The doctor had no choice but to hurry over. “Let me see where the injury is.”
Ye Ran quickly stood up to vacate the space beside him. “The injury is on his arm.”
The doctor fixed his gaze on Ye Ran. “Eh? It’s you again. Aren’t you the family member of that boy who came today?”
Chi Yuheng had just cast a confused gaze at Ye Ran when the doctor asked again, “How are you related to this patient?”
Ye Ran reached out to scratch the back of his head, using the same two words, “Family member.”
The doctor glanced at Chi Yuheng again and seemed to understand.
The main person had arrived.
Ye Ran whispered an explanation to Chi Yuheng, “I just accompanied Chi Youchu here this afternoon to check his brain.”
Only then did Chi Yuheng remember the matter of Chi Youchu hitting a tree.
The doctor moved his gaze once more to Chi Yuheng’s wound and said to Ye Ran, “Come and hold him.”
Ye Ran let out an “Ah,” unable to react for a moment.
Doctor: “What’s with the ‘Ah’? I need to debride the wound; it will hurt. Come over and hold him.”
Even if it couldn’t offset the actual pain, at the very least, it provided psychological comfort.
Generally speaking, when a family member was present at such a time, the patient could often be stronger.
“Oh.” It was just like when he had hurt his foot and Chi Yuheng held him—he understood.
Ye Ran moved toward Chi Yuheng’s side. Just as he reached the man, he was directly pulled over by his other arm around the waist. Ye Ran was encircled by him like a little chick.
Ye Ran: “…”
Shouldn’t he be the one holding Chi Yuheng?
How had it changed to Chi Yuheng holding him?
Ye Ran spoke to remind him, “Have you gotten it backward? It’s me holding you.”
Chi Yuheng was having his wound debrided with one hand, a thin layer of sweat appearing on his forehead. His other arm held Ye Ran even tighter.
His voice was tinged with pain, yet it carried a bit of undeniable dependence, as weak as a feather brushing against the heart. “Be good. Let me hold you for a while.”
Ye Ran didn’t speak or move anymore, obediently letting him hold him.
His hands subconsciously rested on Chi Yuheng’s back. His fingertips could feel the warm skin beneath the shirt, and the muscle lines that were slightly tensed from exertion.
His palms were pressed gently against that patch of warmth. He hesitated for a moment before tentatively patting him with his finger pads, his movements as gentle as if he were comforting an injured large dog.
He remembered that when he was injured last time, Chi Yuheng had done the same.
The doctor lowered his head, busy with his work, not caring who was holding whom. Anyway, they were holding each other; as long as it didn’t affect his debridement, it was fine.
After finishing the treatment on Chi Yuheng’s arm, Ye Ran directly processed his hospitalization.
First, the wound on the arm was quite deep and required observation after treatment.
On the other hand, Ye Ran wanted him to undergo other examinations while he was at it to see if there were any other injuries.
Chi Yuheng wanted to say his constitution was good and there was no need for such a big fuss. Yet, when the words reached his lips and met Ye Ran’s eyes—which were filled with ‘no refusal allowed’—all his retorts were swallowed back.
The President Chi who was always decisive in the business world could only follow Ye Ran toward the inpatient department obediently, not even daring to say a word.
He knew Ye Ran was worried about him.
Looking at it from another angle, if the one stabbed had been Ye Ran, he would have probably gone crazy.
It just happened to coincide with the National Day long holiday. While others were playing, Ye Ran was taking care of a patient in the hospital.
Chengyi Group without Chi Yuheng was like it had lost its backbone.
Even in the hospital, Chi Yuheng’s phone hadn’t stopped ringing.
The board of directors panicked without him. Over the phone, every other word was ‘President Chi’—one moment saying the project in the west of the city was waiting for a signature, the next saying the overseas partners wanted to see him.
Ye Ran grew impatient listening. He directly took the phone from Chi Yuheng’s hand, pressed the speakerphone, and said in a clear voice, “Directors, President Chi is considering retirement lately. If you feel the company can’t function without him, why not take this time to shoulder more responsibility yourselves?”
The other end of the phone instantly went silent. After a few seconds, the people who were counting on Chi Yuheng to lead them to prosperity suddenly changed their tune.
“People should balance work and rest. President Chi should rest well.”
“Right, right, work is secondary; health is most important.”
Ye Ran hung up the phone with satisfaction, only to turn and meet Chi Yuheng’s helpless yet amused gaze.
Ye Ran raised an eyebrow. “What do you want to say?”
Chi Yuheng wouldn’t dare provoke Ye Ran right now. His eyes were brimming with a smile. “I want to say, whatever our Ye-zi says is right.”
For the next day, Chi Yuheng underwent a full set of examinations under Ye Ran’s “supervision.”
Ye Ran accompanied him the whole time, clutching the examination forms in his hand, looking even more nervous than Chi Yuheng himself.
Early the next morning, Ye Ran took the examination forms to the hospital office.
The doctor flipped through the reports. “The wound on the arm was treated very timely. As long as it doesn’t touch water and the dressing is changed regularly, healing won’t be a problem.”
“No other injuries were found. However, based on the various indicators, the patient has been very exhausted lately and needs good rest.”
The heart Ye Ran had been holding for two days finally settled. He nodded and said “Okay” before leaving the doctor’s office.
People were coming and going in the corridor of the inpatient department. Chi Yuheng was staying in a private room, and Ye Ran had been accompanying him these past two days.
Ye Ran walked to the door of the ward. At this moment, the door was slightly ajar.
He remembered Chi Yuheng hadn’t woken up when he left, and he had closed the door. This situation clearly meant someone had arrived.
Ye Ran pushed the door open directly. The two people in the ward were clearly stunned, as if they hadn’t expected him to return so quickly. They then let out a faint sigh of relief, as if celebrating something.
Xin Yu was even a bit frantic. He wanted to pour water for Chi Yuheng, but he went over with a fruit knife instead.
He wanted to bring them breakfast, but he brought a kettle over instead.
Chi Yuheng was speechless. After all, he was an assistant who had followed him for so many years; was there a need to be so flustered upon seeing Ye Ran?
Xin Yu finally got the breakfast ready. Chi Yuheng ate in a proper manner, showing no abnormality at all.
Ye Ran’s gaze swept across the two of them, finally landing on Xin Yu with a smile.
“Brother Xin Yu, are you the one delivering breakfast today?”
Although Chi Yuheng wasn’t going to the company, Xin Yu still had to go to help handle some work matters. The person who usually delivered meals to the hospital was Uncle Lin.
Xin Yu gave a dry laugh. “The small grocery shopping car at home broke down. Uncle Lin asked me to help deliver the meal.”
“Oh~” Ye Ran nodded with a smile, then suddenly shifted his tone, “Besides the meal, you didn’t bring anything else?”
Xin Yu didn’t speak. Ye Ran turned back to Chi Yuheng, his gaze full of scrutiny.
Chi Yuheng directly spread his hands. “I just woke up; I don’t know anything.”
Xin Yu: “???!!!”
Damn! Wasn’t it you who told me to bring things?!
In terms of the speed of shifting blame, no one could compare to his boss.
When Ye Ran’s gaze moved back to him, Xin Yu wiped away his previous panic and his expression became very calm.
“I really only brought the meal. Uncle Lin said the soup was freshly brewed this morning; it should be drunk while it’s hot—it’s not good once it’s cold.”
As long as these two aligned their gazes, it was no different from a colluded testimony.
Although Ye Ran and Xin Yu had a friendship built on food, in the end, he still listened to Chi Yuheng.
Ye Ran knew he couldn’t get anything out of Xin Yu, so he went directly to find Chi Yuheng.
Based on his understanding of Chi Yuheng, it was impossible for Xin Yu not to have brought anything.
Ye Ran directly grabbed Chi Yuheng’s belt and snapped it against the bed. “Chi Yuheng, you’d better confess honestly. Don’t force me to use interrogation and torture.”
