Chapter 4: Kill That Gold-Digging Scammer 4
Soon, the skewers were served one after another.
There was both meat and vegetables.
Shen Wu took one look and couldn’t help but gulp down his saliva.
He had eaten nothing but instant noodles on the train for the past two days. Now, smelling the aroma of the skewers, his mouth was watering before he even took a bite.
———
“Don’t be polite, you two. Go grab more when you’re done eating,” Zhou Geng cheerfully urged them.
“Okay.” Shen Wu picked up a skewer of cartilage. After taking one bite, his eyes lit up. “Geng-ge, this actually tastes really good.”
“This place has been open for over ten years. The barbecue master is a veteran, and his seasoning is considered the best in the area,” Zhou Geng said with a smile.
Xie Cishu glanced at Shen Wu, hesitated for a second, and then picked up a corn skewer.
Since he was sitting here, it would be inappropriate if he didn’t eat anything at all.
Shen Wu had a great appetite and ate a lot all by himself.
After he ran off to grab a serving of roasted eggplant, Xie Cishu couldn’t help but let his gaze fall on his waist.
He’s so skinny, and his waist is so narrow. How can he eat so much?
He felt somewhat perplexed.
After sitting down, Shen Wu continued drinking with Zhou Geng.
His alcohol tolerance was very average. He was the type of lightweight who would pass out after about three bottles of beer.
His fair cheeks were flushed with a drunken, rosy hue, and his eyes looked as if they were steeped in a faint mist.
Xie Cishu took one look at him and quickly lowered his eyes again.
He picked up the mineral water beside him and took a sip.
“Geng-ge, what kind of job did you find for me?” Shen Wu asked Zhou Geng, seemingly casually.
He wanted to see if it aligned with the original plot.
“Oh, sales,” Zhou Geng replied after placing his glass on the table.
“It’s selling building materials. Although it’s a bit tough, the commission is high, and it doesn’t require a degree. You’re young, so just be a bit sweeter with your words and work hard; you’ll definitely earn a lot.”
After he finished speaking, he smiled at Shen Wu.
“Just make do and stay with me for now. I took tomorrow off to take you to the company to familiarize yourself with the place, and I’ll also show you the bus routes. Once your job is stable, we can look for a suitable apartment. How does that sound?”
Shen Wu’s brow furrowed slightly. It was a bit different from the original plot. In the original story, although it was also a sales job, it was selling health supplements, not building materials.
It seemed that the storyline in this small world wouldn’t strictly follow what he had written.
“Sure, thank you, Geng-ge. I’m really troubling you.”
“Sigh, what trouble? We’re from the same hometown, it’s just a small favor.” Zhou Geng smiled and patted Shen Wu’s shoulder. “Don’t treat me like an outsider from now on.”
Shen Wu nodded, raised his glass, and drank another round with Zhou Geng.
Xie Cishu’s gaze lingered on the spot where Zhou Geng was patting Shen Wu’s arm. The hand holding the mineral water tightened slightly, but he remained silent throughout.
…
After dinner, Xie Cishu drove away, and only then did Zhou Geng carry the bag and lead Shen Wu home.
The apartment Zhou Geng rented was in an old residential complex.
It was a one-bedroom apartment, not large, but it was kept very clean.
“Wuwu, my place is small, so you’ll have to make do and sleep in the same bed with me for these next few days. But I just changed the sheets and bedding yesterday, so they are clean.”
“Geng-ge, I’m already very grateful that you’re taking me in. Once my job is stable, I’ll find a place and move out.” Shen Wu genuinely felt a bit embarrassed.
Zhou Geng was too enthusiastic, and he was simply too kind.
“There’s no rush. We can talk about it after you make some money and get your salary. Renting an apartment in Jing City isn’t cheap.”
“How much is the rent for this place a month?”
“800.” After answering, Zhou Geng scratched the back of his head, looking a bit shy.
“I’ve only been working for a little over a year, but I’m trying very hard to save money. After this year, I should be able to save enough for a down payment. Then I can get a mortgage on an apartment, and I’ll finally have something to look forward to.”
“Geng-ge, you’re amazing.”
Zhou Geng let out a soft laugh. “Amazing? The things I’ll spend my entire life pursuing are things people born here already possess.”
He sighed after saying that. “But it doesn’t matter. I still have the future…”
Shen Wu genuinely admired Zhou Geng’s drive and ambition, especially since he himself was always in a state of just slacking off and waiting for death.
“That’s right, you’re so outstanding. Your future will definitely be shining bright.”
The smile on Zhou Geng’s face grew deeper.
“Your mouth is as sweet as honey. Alright, it’s getting late, go wash up first. I bought you a new toothbrush, cup, and towel. Do you have pajamas? If not, I’ll find a set of mine for you.”
Shen Wu didn’t expect Zhou Geng to be so meticulous. His favorable impression of Zhou Geng grew even more. “Thank you, Geng-ge, I have pajamas.”
“Alright then, you wash up first. I’ll wash after you.”
After speaking, Zhou Geng led Shen Wu to the bathroom, pointed out where everything was kept, and considerately explained that the hot water was on the left and the cold water was on the right.
Shen Wu took his pajamas out of his bag and went into the bathroom.
Calling it a bathroom was a generous term; it was actually just a few square meters of a toilet with a showerhead installed next to it.
When Shen Wu finished washing and came out into the room, Zhou Geng was sitting at his computer, typing away.
Hearing footsteps, Zhou Geng looked up and froze for a moment.
Having just finished his shower, Shen Wu radiated a soft and pliant vibe. His hair was blown slightly messy, with a few strands resting against his forehead, making him look inexplicably well-behaved.
He wasn’t wearing traditional pajamas, just an ordinary white short-sleeved T-shirt. Whether the quality was poor or it had been washed too many times, it was a bit sheer. Zhou Geng could almost faintly see…
He was wearing gray shorts on his lower half, revealing a pair of long, pale, and slender legs that looked incredibly tender.
“Geng-ge, I’m done washing up. You can go now.”
Zhou Geng suddenly snapped back to reality.
“Oh, right, okay. You’re tired, so go to sleep first.” He paused as if suddenly remembering something. “Um, put your dirty clothes in the basin, and I’ll throw them in the washing machine later.”
Shen Wu pursed his lips. “Thank you, Geng-ge.”
“Just a convenient favor,” Zhou Geng said as he turned off his computer, grabbed the pajamas resting on the bed, and headed to the bathroom.
Shen Wu was exhausted to death after sitting on the train for two days. Having eaten and drank his fill, and after taking a comfortable shower, he felt as if his bones turned to mush the moment he lay on the bed.
Within a few minutes, sleepiness quickly overtook him.
———
Meanwhile, on the other side.
After entering the bathroom, Zhou Geng’s mind was still somewhat bewildered.
He didn’t understand why he had been so entranced while staring at Shen Wu just now.
The cramped space of the bathroom was filled with the fruity scent of body wash.
After turning on the showerhead, he couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
The body wash I bought this time really smells nice.
…
After finishing his shower, Zhou Geng threw both Shen Wu’s clothes and his own into the washing machine.
Once the wash started, he went back to the bathroom to hand-wash the white shirt and underwear he had worn that day.
When he went to the balcony to hang up the laundry, he noticed that only a single pair of Shen Wu’s underwear was hanging there.
He inexplicably stared at it for an extra moment.
By the time he finished cleaning up, it was almost midnight.
He usually went to bed late, and staying up to rush proposals was a regular occurrence. Without any background or connections, he could only put in more effort than others.
As soon as he entered the room, he saw that Shen Wu had already fallen asleep.
However, his sleeping posture wasn’t exactly great.
His T-shirt had ridden up to his waist, and his shorts sat very low, barely resting on his hipbones.
It revealed a small section of a pale, lean, and taut waist.
