Chapter 147: Venerable Yuguang
“Congratulations, young man.”
A gentle, warm male voice rang in their ears.
Feng Shi, still holding Shen Songhe’s hand in his own, looked at the suddenly shifted scenery, still feeling somewhat dumbfounded.
“Friend, congratulations on obtaining the immortal sword forged by this Venerable One’s own hands.”
The voice seemed to come from all directions, the tone lingering, yet no person was to be seen.
And at this moment, the place where the two stood was no longer that cold, gloomy underground palace, but a different palace altogether.
Here, the sunlight was genial, birds chirped and insects hummed. White steam curled upward from a teacup on a stone table, and the artificial mountain spring tinkled like jade pendants.
Everything was peaceful and tranquil, perfectly resembling the most ordinary afternoon in the mortal realm.
Yet the grand hall was majestic, its brick walls solemn. The sunlight filtering through the glazed tiles reflected coldly into their eyes. In such a vast space, there was surprisingly not a single person; it was merely an empty estate.
Feng Shi quickly surveyed his surroundings, eventually turning his head to look at Shen Songhe beside him.
However, he saw that the youth was also dazed, his gaze focused intently on—
Feng Shi’s gaze followed his downward, only to realize that he was actually still holding the other boy’s hand.
Because he was gripping it so tightly, blood was still continuously squeezing out from Shen Songhe’s bitten fingertip.
Startled, Feng Shi subconsciously lowered his head, taking that fair finger into his mouth to suck on it. He said somewhat embarrassedly, “Sorry about that, I forgot.”
Shen Songhe didn’t like hearing Feng Shi apologize to him, but right now, his heart was truly brimming with joy. His gaze fixed on Feng Shi’s face. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice carried a hoarseness unfitting for a youth. “It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt.”
Sensing the eerily ambiguous atmosphere, Feng Shi also realized that cultivators weren’t like ordinary people; they weren’t that fragile. Thus, he hurriedly released his hand.
Displeasure once again bloomed in the depths of Shen Songhe’s heart.
At this moment, the owner of the earlier voice also materialized before the two of them.
A young man dressed in loose, dark-colored Daoist robes, barefooted, approached by treading upon the empty air.
“Friend… hey? Why are there two friends?”
“Oh~ I see.”
“No matter. Those who arrive are guests. Since you’re here, sit down and have a cup of tea.”
The man had somewhat feminine features. His every movement exuded an air of noble dignity, yet it was also tinged with casualness and uninhibited freedom.
Upon first seeing this person, Feng Shi had already formulated a guess regarding his identity in his mind; he must be the master of this Yuguang Immortal Mansion—Venerable Yuguang.
“Friend, why are you staring at me like that? Sit,” Venerable Yuguang said, his expression gentle. He gestured courteously, a faint smile on his face.
Feng Shi held deep reverence for powerhouses of Venerable Yuguang’s caliber. Seeing him so gentle and affable, his goodwill instantly multiplied. He pulled Shen Songhe along to offer a highly respectful bow. “Sen—”
“Ouch!”
Just as Feng Shi prepared to speak, he was interrupted by an exclamation, prompting him to hurriedly raise his head.
It would have been better if he hadn’t looked, but upon seeing it, he couldn’t help revealing a look of astonishment.
He saw that Venerable Yuguang, upon landing, had carelessly stepped on his own hem, resulting in a heavy stumble.
The previously solemn, Buddha-like expression on his face instantly shattered, revealing a hint of disdain. He lifted his hem, flicked it, and muttered a curse, “Tsk, these torn clothes!”
Feng Shi: “…”
This filter shattered way too fast; it truly caught a person off guard.
Venerable Yuguang straightened out his hem and looked up, flashing them a radiant smile. Looking somewhat embarrassed, he said, “Frie—”
“Venerable Yuguang.”
“Is Senior the Venerable Yuguang?”
Feng Shi spoke up to interrupt him.
For no other reason than the fact that he had already figured out the chatterbox nature of the person before him; whenever a sentence started with the word ‘friend’, it was bound to be nonsense.
Hearing this, Venerable Yuguang was momentarily stunned. In the blink of an eye, he arrived in front of Feng Shi. With tears welling in his eyes, he grasped Feng Shi’s hands and said excitedly, “Good, good! Kid, you have a good eye!”
Shen Songhe looked at their forcedly clasped hands, his gaze hardening. He had just raised a hand to stop it when, unexpectedly, Venerable Yuguang released his grip in the very next instant. Turning to face the sky and clutching his heart, he went off to emotionally move himself.
Shen Songhe: “…”
Venerable Yuguang, possessed by the spirit of a drama queen, dabbed the corners of his eyes with his sleeve. “I never thought, I truly never thought that after all these years, there would still be someone who remembers me, Yuguang!”
“Heavens above!”
“Thank you…”
Feng Shi’s composure finally broke, the corner of his mouth twitching violently.
He truly hadn’t expected that the legendary number one powerhouse, Venerable Yuguang, was actually a… comedian…
“Immortal Lord Yuguang, may I ask where this place is?” Feng Shi, truly unable to bear his barrage of nonsense, began to steer the direction of the conversation.
Venerable Yuguang, having wallowed in self-emotion for quite a while, raised his hand to wipe away non-existent tears from the corners of his eyes upon hearing this. “This place is a spatial dimension of my own creation. Back then, when I perished, I only had time to leave behind this wisp of divine sense.”
At this point, Venerable Yuguang suddenly let out a loud sigh. “How pitiful!”
Feng Shi was startled by him, and then saw him slap his thigh in lamentation. “My ten thousand and eight beloved wives! They are all gone! All gone!”
Feng Shi / Shen Songhe: “………”
Ten thousand and eight. The fact that you didn’t die in bed is already a scientific miracle.
Furthermore, the two suddenly somewhat understood why anyone who entered the secret realm would automatically be dressed in women’s clothing.
It turned out it was because the master of this secret realm was himself a massive lecher!
“Now that a millennium has passed, this wisp of my divine sense is also on the verge of dissipating. I thought no one would ever come again…”
Venerable Yuguang finally sat down at the stone table, poured himself a cup of tea, and drank it. Then, with knitted brows, he opened his mouth, looking as though he had another basketful of words to dump out.
Seeing this, Feng Shi hurriedly spoke ahead of him. “Then, Immortal Lord, for what purpose did you summon the two of us here?”
The interrupted Venerable Yuguang shot him a resentful look. Forced to swallow back his original words, he replied, “I deposited this wisp of divine sense within Yanluo. Whoever obtains this sword will be sent to see me.”
“Actually, it isn’t any major matter.”
Venerable Yuguang returned to the serious demeanor he had upon their first meeting. “It’s just that my death was hasty, and many matters were not handled properly. Thus, I used my residual power to create this secret realm, leaving behind countless rare treasures, as well as… my wives and children.”
Feng Shi raised an eyebrow. “Ten thousand and eight of them?”
“Pah!”
“Spouting nonsense with your eyes wide open; this Venerable One certainly wishes I had them! The perfectly good atmosphere has all been ruined by you,” Venerable Yuguang said in annoyance.
Feng Shi bit his lip to hold back his laughter and continued to ask, “Then who is the master of this underground palace?”
Venerable Yuguang lifted his eyelids to look at him. After a long moment, he lowered his head and said, “It is my son.”
Feng Shi was surprised. “He’s dead?”
“No,” Venerable Yuguang denied.
“Originally, I also thought he was dead, but I didn’t expect that he had merely been placed under a Forbidden Spell by someone.”
At this point, heaven knows what came to mind, but the aura around him settled, revealing a genuine sense of sorrow.
“I only learned of this matter after my death. Therefore, the reason I brought you here is because I want you to rescue my son and take him out.”
“As long as the barrier hadn’t been broken prior to this, he should still be slumbering within the coffin right now.”
Feng Shi’s scalp tightened. He vaguely remembered that when he grabbed Yanluo, that outer coffin seemed to have been smashed…
The kind where one end was smashed to smithereens.
Thinking of this, Feng Shi couldn’t help but shudder, praying in his heart: I hope it was the child’s feet that got smashed.
Venerable Yuguang didn’t seem to know what had transpired outside, and Feng Shi couldn’t bear to shatter his hopes, so he promised, “We will.”
Venerable Yuguang’s eyes revealed a paternal affection. “Good child.” He then gave a slight smile. “However, if you don’t go save him, I will definitely throw off my coffin lid and crawl out to find you.”
Feng Shi: “…”
“Oh right, there’s also this jade pendant. Once my son wakes up, hand it over to him.”
“Carved on this is the name I gave him.”
Feng Shi received it with both hands. Before he could examine it closely, he saw that Venerable Yuguang’s body before him had gradually become transparent; he appeared on the verge of dissipating.
He stood up, putting away his unserious demeanor, and approached Shen Songhe.
“The one who obtains Yanluo receives my legacy. Kid, I foresaw that your destiny would be fraught with hardships, yet you possess incredibly good fortune.”
“You and I are bound by fate. This Venerable One shall gift you this mansion full of magical artifacts and secret manuals.”
Venerable Yuguang smiled. He raised his hand and pressed it against the center of Shen Songhe’s brow, his tone carrying a hint of teasing. “Remember to share a little with the one beside you, huh.”
Radiance flowed into the center of Shen Songhe’s brow, while he gazed at Feng Shi and softly chuckled. “I will.”
He would give it to him.
Whatever was his, was entirely his Senior Brother’s.
Venerable Yuguang’s body had already begun to dissolve from his feet up, yet his expression remained serene. He sighed with a faint smile, “Oh my… time truly flies…”
“My two friends, Yuguang is departing once again.”
With his hands behind his back, he was nearly transparent to the point of being invisible. Feng Shi opened his mouth, but before he could utter a single syllable, he saw the man unable to remain serious for more than three seconds as he said:
“Do not weep! This Venerable One knows I am very handsome and you love me very much, but, this Venerable One only likes women. You can be my harem in your next lives—!”
The person was already gone, but the word “harem” still echoed enduringly.
Feng Shi: “…”
Thanks. He had originally felt a tiny bit of sorrow, but now it was completely gone.
