Chapter 49: Your Brother is a Good Man
This perfectly explained why Finn had asked Chen Wei to be his exclusive model the very first time they met.
Completely oblivious to the small exchange between them…
Finn’s expression as he looked at the room full of his designs was one of indescribable satisfaction and focus.
Stopping his footsteps, he stood before the only mannequin in the room enclosed in a transparent glass case.
Pulling a still-hesitant Han Chi along, Chen Wei walked over to join him.
Finn turned his head at the sound, looked at the Chen Wei standing beside him, and offered a playful wink.
“Want to take a bold guess at the origin of this garment?”
“The origin?”
Following Finn’s lead, Chen Wei finally had the chance to properly examine the outfit.
Unlike the other clothes in the room, this piece inside the glass case—from a purely visual perspective—should have been an outstanding and perfect design.
Unfortunately, the fly in the ointment was that it was an unfinished, defective product.
Chen Wei turned to look at Finn. After a moment of thought, he pursed his lips and asked:
“This must be the first finished garment you ever designed, right?”
The fleeting inspirations of youth are often brilliant.
However, for someone with a background like Finn’s, his family would never allow him to mess around with something that, in the eyes of a prestigious clan, held zero value.
Therefore, this garment could only be—and had to remain—a semi-finished product.
Finn looked back at him. He didn’t speak in response to the answer, but he offered a meaningful pat on Chen Wei’s shoulder, as if acknowledging a soulmate.
Keeping his arm around Chen Wei, Finn turned and continued walking forward:
“My father and mother were in a loveless political marriage. Before my mother married into the Zhou family, my father had a previous wife.”
“Before his first wife passed away, she left him a son—my older brother.”
Finn suddenly let out a laugh:
“Believe it or not, the fact that I can do whatever I want so freely actually has a lot to do with my brother.”
“When my grandfather disagreed with me doing these ‘messy things,’ he flew into a rage and had all my sewing tools thrown out. It was my brother who went out into the rain at night to dig through the trash, picking up every single tool from the ruins for me.”
“When I was sixteen and invited my brother to witness my first finished design, my grandfather caught us by chance.”
“Grandfather was furious, pointing at me and scolding me for being a disappointment to the Zhou family, only interested in ‘useless junk.'”
“In the end, it was my brother who stood in front of me and bore the brunt of Grandfather’s anger.”
“My brother said that having one person to shoulder the Zhou family’s burdens was enough. Not everyone’s life should be sacrificed as a stepping stone for the family.”
This was the first time Chen Wei had learned about Zhou Sijin’s family matters.
Knowing full well that the brother Finn spoke of was Zhou Sijin, Chen Wei was smart enough not to reveal it. He simply responded to Finn’s story with a neutral comment:
“Your brother is a good man.”
“Hahahaha!”
The sentence made Finn double over with laughter. He said:
“A-Wei, you’re the first person to ever call my brother a ‘good man.'”
Chen Wei offered a slight smile.
Finn pulled Chen Wei closer by his shoulder in a friendly gesture:
“I’ll introduce my brother to you if I get a chance. You’re such an interesting person, A-Wei; my brother will definitely like you.”
To this, Chen Wei only smiled without speaking.
He allowed Finn to lead him to the door of a dressing room.
Looking at the clothes on the hundreds of mannequins in the room, Finn made a grand, sweeping gesture like a domineering CEO:
“I’ll have to trouble you to try on all these clothes in a moment, A-Wei.”
“Huh?” Chen Wei hadn’t even opened his mouth when Han Chi’s eyes bugged out at the sheer number of outfits:
“Wait, this many clothes? You want him to try them all?”
Perhaps realizing his request was a bit excessive, Finn rubbed his nose and smiled sheepishly when Han Chi called him out.
While Finn was caught in his dilemma, he heard the Chen Wei beside him say with a smile:
“It’s alright. I can do it.”
Thinking his ears had failed him, Finn snapped his head up to look at him, full of disbelief:
“You… you don’t find it too much trouble?”
Chen Wei just smiled and replied:
“It’s something I promised you before. It’s no trouble at all.”
Setting aside the fact that he had agreed to be Finn’s model since their first meeting…
The fact that Finn’s team had been willing to risk a breach of contract penalty to terminate with Xingyao and sign with his own studio was something Chen Wei would owe him for a lifetime.
Upon hearing the agreement, Finn’s eyes sparkled.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let you try them on for nothing. If you see anything you like, I’ll have someone send it to you.”
The talkative Han Chi couldn’t help but ask cheekily:
“And what if we like all of them?”
“Brother Han,” Chen Wei reminded him at the right time.
“Hai!” Finn waved it off dismissively.
“What of it? I’ll just give them all to you.”
Better they shine on the brilliant Chen Wei than gather dust on these lifeless mannequins.
While Chen Wei was inside changing, Finn casually made a call to summon his own private photography team.
After hanging up, he noticed Han Chi staring dazed at several sets of women’s clothing nearby.
Leaning his elbow on Han Chi’s shoulder, Finn asked with a mischievous grin:
“Manager Han, do you like those? Thinking of getting something for a girlfriend?”
Han Chi shook off Finn’s arm and said:
“Who likes those! I’m single! I was just wondering… surely our A-Wei won’t have to try those women’s clothes too?”
“Hmm?”
Finn’s eyes lit up the moment he heard the keyword.
“Women’s clothes?”
His surprised tone carried a hint of frightening excitement.
“Wait, no.” Han Chi’s expression turned visibly panicked:
“Don’t do it, man!”
“Relax.” Sensing his tension, Finn laughed and patted his shoulder:
“Those women’s outfits are specially made to the proportions of a female frame; A-Wei won’t fit in them.”
“However,” he added, unable to resist teasing Han Chi:
“If A-Wei wants, I can design a custom set just for him…”
Before he could finish, the sound of the dressing room door opening came from behind them.
