Chapter 58: I Am the Protagonist
Su Ning lay collapsed before Shi He in a perfectly orchestrated posture. His delicate, fair face wore a piteous, delicate expression that he had undoubtedly practiced countless times in front of a mirror.
He had intentionally dressed in a simple white shirt paired with faded light-colored jeans, his voice dropping low. “I’m sorry, Student Shi. I didn’t mean to.”
Three days ago, Su Ning had a dream. In the dream, he saw a manga where a character with his exact same name and Shi He were the main characters.
According to the plot summary, they would meet ten years later at the Shi Corporation. Having suffered from past heartbreak, the S-grade Alpha Shi He, who had completely locked his heart away, would fall in love with him at first sight. He would spend money like water just to win his favor, even transferring all the shares under his name to him.
Not only that, but many of the people’s names in this manga matched reality perfectly.
Upon waking up, Su Ning fully believed he was the protagonist. However, he hadn’t expected that after trying to corner Shi He at school and at the Shi Corporation ahead of schedule for three days, he wouldn’t catch a single glimpse of him.
It was currently ten years prior. If he and Shi He met earlier, he could resolve his family’s troubles much sooner.
Even though Su Ning didn’t like Shi He at all.
However, he could endure it, swallowing his pride to pretend he liked Shi He so he could become the salvation in the other man’s life.
Su Ning lifted his head in his best angle, only to see the aloof and handsome Alpha cast a cold glance over him, completely ignoring his existence.
The Alpha strode forward with his long legs, walking right past him toward the figure standing by the office door. In an instant, the ice thawed, and his voice overflowed with tenderness, “Mianmian, are you all done?”
Ruan Zhimian was looking at Su Ning. He lifted his head, nodding obediently as a soft smile blossomed on his beautiful, snowy-white face. He even stuffed the tightly crumpled leave slip into Shi He’s pocket.
Through the fabric of his top, he even poked the Alpha’s abs.
Shi He caught Ruan Zhimian’s wrist. “Good boy.”
“He seems to be talking to you.”
“Don’t know him, never seen him.”
Su Ning watched from a distance. Gritting his teeth, he scrambled up awkwardly and checked his face in a nearby mirror surface.
Why is Ruan Zhimian here?
It’s fine. Ruan Zhimian will dump Shi He soon anyway. When the time comes, I’ll step in to comfort Shi He. How could a young master who has never suffered a day in his life like Ruan Zhimian ever have real feelings? It’s nothing but playing around.
Su Ning limped forward to block Ruan Zhimian’s path. His words, however, were directed at Shi He, maintaining a polite facade. “I almost ran into Student Shi just now. I wanted to say sorry to Student Shi. He didn’t reply to me just now, so I thought he didn’t hear…”
“Shi He, actually, we’ve met a few times…”
Ruan Zhimian suddenly curved his lips into a smile. Looking straight at Su Ning with his beautiful, clear eyes, his snowy-white fingers gripped the Alpha’s hand back.
“Excuse me, but my boyfriend doesn’t like talking to strangers. I’ll answer on his behalf.”
“He’s perfectly fine. If you hurt yourself in the fall, you should go get checked out at a hospital.”
With that, the two brushed right past him.
Su Ning clenched his fists. What right did Ruan Zhimian have to speak to him in such a tone? Who was he looking down on? In a couple of years, Ruan Zhimian would be dead anyway.
Su Ning spoke with an air of feigned surprise, “Student Ruan, I recall you just called off your engagement with Han He’an.”
The Alpha beside him suddenly turned his head, his dark eyes exceptionally deep and freezing cold. “Does our relationship have anything to do with you?”
He actually sounded somewhat terrifying.
Su Ning subconsciously shrank his shoulders back, watching Shi He drape his arm around Ruan Zhimian’s shoulders and neck again, leaning down to speak to him.
This person was simply too frightening.
He clearly remembered that in the manga, Shi He’s attitude toward him was very good.
“Baby, where are we going?”
The young Master Ruan, who had spent an hour studying recipes yesterday, replied, “To the supermarket. I’m going to cook.”
“Whatever you want to eat, I’ll make it.”
“Do you not believe me?”
Shi He answered immediately, “I believe you.”
They walked over to the parking lot to get the car. Ruan Zhimian—the protagonist currently at the center of the called-off engagement scandal—walked hand-in-hand with Shi He, crossing paths with quite a few people along the way.
Shi He opened the car door for Ruan Zhimian. Walking around to the driver’s side, he turned the car key. “They’re saying we’ve been together for a long time already.”
Ruan Zhimian lowered his head and summarized softly, “I pursued you first.”
With that, he pulled out his phone and sent a message to Teng Yu first.

[A-Yu: Who!]
[CatCatCatMian: Huajiang University, Su Ning, Omega. Look into whether he’s been acting strange lately, including the people around him.]
He could come to perform tasks, and so could others.
Or perhaps Su Ning had some other means.
Ruan Zhimian turned off his phone screen and looked over at Shi He.
Qiuqiu had told him that in this world, Shi He was the absolute central protagonist. Even if the overall progression couldn’t be altered, many uncontrollable things would still occur.
If Su Ning was merely approaching Shi He ahead of schedule, what could the reason be?
The car drove all the way to the supermarket beneath his apartment building. Ruan Zhimian pulled out his organized recipes while Shi He pushed a shopping cart, staying by his side the entire time and carrying out two large shopping bags full of items.
At eleven o’clock noon, in the kitchen.
Ruan Zhimian had changed into loungewear—one of Shi He’s black T-shirts that hung loosely just above his knees. A white apron was tied around his waist, and a smudge of flour dusted his snowy-white cheek as he meticulously kneaded a brown dough mixed with cocoa powder in his hands.
Shi He had been ordered to stand at the kitchen doorway, watching Ruan Zhimian carry the dough to the refrigerator before jogging back to prepare the filling, looking incredibly serious.
By the looks of it, he was planning to make bear-shaped steamed buns, a small pastry that heavily tested one’s skill.
The way he stared at the kitchen scale was exceptionally cute, and the way he pinched the dough was also incredibly adorable.
These adorable sides of him were things only he could see.
Shi He walked over, wrapping both arms around his waist from behind as a dense flurry of kisses rained down onto his earlobe. Lowering his quiet voice, he spoke with a clingy tone, “Mianmian, no one has ever made these kinds of things for me before…”
It tickled slightly. Ruan Zhimian turned his head to press a kiss against Shi He’s cheek. “It might not taste good.”
“It will taste good.”
Another half hour passed, and Ruan Zhimian finally placed several ugly-cute bear buns into the electric steamer before opening the pasta and tomato meat sauce to fix a simple lunch.
He didn’t know how to make anything else anyway.
From childhood to adulthood, Ruan Zhimian had spent his life eating various nutritional meals and bland hospital food.
Just as he poured the tomato meat sauce, oil splattered out. The Alpha beside him immediately pulled him back, taking the wooden spatula to skillfully dump in the cooked pasta, tossing it to reduce the sauce.
Leaning against his chest, a soft shimmer surfaced within Ruan Zhimian’s pure eyes.
He suddenly tilted his head up to give him a quick kiss, then turned around completely to wrap both arms around Shi He, nuzzling his fluffy head against him.
“What’s wrong?”
It was just his heart thumping loudly.
As if to say, I like you so much.
“I don’t know.”
