Chapter 102: Blind Date, Are You Going?
Wen Yuhuai couldn’t be bothered with these two. He let out a cold sneer and turned to leave. Song Xingmian instantly panicked and hurriedly chased after him. “Brother, don’t be angry. If you don’t like it, I won’t do it again…”
Lin Shiyu stood in place, watching their retreating backs with an unfathomable expression for a moment, before finally taking a step to follow.
To say he didn’t care would be a lie. His superficial nonchalance was all just an act. Having such a beautiful, sweet-talking young man staying by Wen Yuhuai’s side was enough to make him die of jealousy.
But he was no longer that reckless, hot-headed kid of the past. He wouldn’t wear his emotions on his sleeve for everyone to see through at a glance. Meeting all changes with constancy was the right way to play the game.
Look at that—just a few words earlier had been enough to make the kid jump in anger, immediately losing the upper hand in their first clash and leaving him too scared to even tattle.
Still too green.
On the other side.
After coming out, Wen Yuhuai went straight to his car. With a blooming headache, he slumped over the steering wheel, his fingertips absentmindedly massaging his temples.
He didn’t know why those two had started fighting, but it surely had something to do with him. What kind of ridiculous mess was this?
Wen Yuhuai was exceptionally good-looking, had a great personality, and came from a wealthy family. Since he was young, he had never lacked suitors. Over the past few years, perhaps because of those specific men hovering around him, his suitors had dwindled significantly, but it wasn’t as if they had completely vanished.
However, all of these suitors had been of the opposite sex. Not a single person of the same sex had ever dared to confess to him.
Wen Yuhuai let out a deep breath, facing the suggestion Father Wen had brought up before with genuine seriousness for the first time.
Did he really have to find someone to get engaged to just to make them give up?
Finding someone for a fake engagement wasn’t hard. After all, an engagement wasn’t a marriage. Besides, even if they married, they could always divorce—such things were practically an everyday occurrence in wealthy circles. He only needed to find a woman of equal social standing, put on a show of an engagement, and force those men to back off.
Wen Yuhuai was always a man of action. Once he decided the plan was viable, he began to scout for candidates. Perhaps he could invite a few of the wealthy heiresses his father had mentioned earlier to test the waters.
Just as he finalized his thoughts, the passenger door was yanked open. Song Xingmian got in with a taut face, clearly still furious.
Wen Yuhuai instinctively glanced outside again, not expecting that this single look would directly poke the hornet’s nest.
“What is Brother looking at? Are you looking at Lin Shiyu? What is so good to look at about him…”
Wen Yuhuai shot him a sidelong glance. “Such a huge temper. What exactly did you two talk about?”
Song Xingmian fell silent again.
That bastard Lin Shiyu actually had the nerve to use threats. He threatened that if Song Xingmian dared to reveal the contents of their conversation, he would tell Song Xingmian’s family that he was still in the country.
That’s right, the Song family thought he was still studying abroad. His living expenses were wired on a fixed monthly basis. Compared to the others, it wasn’t an astronomical amount, but it was enough for him to buy small gifts from time to time to win Wen Yuhuai’s favor.
If his family found out he hadn’t gone abroad, they would definitely find a way to ship him out. If they couldn’t, they might cut off his funds in a fit of rage. Then, just like Lin Shiyu said, he’d really have to rely on Wen Yuhuai’s charity to survive.
How could he chase anyone like that? He might as well just resign himself to being a younger brother.
Seeing him stay quiet, Wen Yuhuai didn’t have the patience to dig for answers. Just as he was about to start the car and leave, a black McLaren pulled up beside him and honked its horn. The window rolled down, revealing Lin Shiyu’s handsome face, adorned with a faint smile.
Wen Yuhuai rolled down his window, resting his arm on the door frame to look at him. “Aren’t you going to catch your flight?”
This guy always came and went in a rush; usually, tracking him down was just for a quick meal.
Lin Shiyu mirrored his posture, casually resting his arm on the edge of the window. “I’m in no rush today. What are your plans next? Mind bringing me along?”
Wen Yuhuai originally didn’t have any plans, but he had just decided to stage some “chance encounters” with those heiresses this afternoon. Thinking of this, he lifted his eyes to look at Lin Shiyu, speaking half-jokingly, half-seriously, “I’m going on a blind date this afternoon. Are you coming along too?”
With a single sentence, the expressions of the two men—both inside and outside the car—drastically shifted.
Lin Shiyu barely managed to maintain a normal expression. “What blind date? I’ve never heard you mention this before. Are Uncle and Auntie pressuring you again?”
Wen Yuhuai put on a look of total indifference. “Not really, it’s my own idea. After all, I’m not getting any younger, and being alone gets lonely. I want to find a companion.”
Lin Shiyu’s hands tightened their grip on the steering wheel until he finally couldn’t hold back the question: “Isn’t having the few of us accompany you enough?”
Wen Yuhuai gave him a genuinely bewildered look. “Of course it’s not enough. You guys are my brothers, my friends. What I’m looking for is a wife to warm my bed. How can that compare?”
Satisfied by the color draining from Lin Shiyu’s face, Wen Yuhuai waved him off in a good mood, signaling him not to leave just yet. He then turned to Song Xingmian beside him and said, “Don’t you two like hanging out together? You were playing so hard earlier you practically flipped the table. Get out and go to his car. You two have fun this afternoon.”
Song Xingmian didn’t want to get out, his expression looking pitifully wronged. “I don’t want to be with him. Brother, take me with you. I promise I’ll be obedient.”
Wen Yuhuai laughed out of sheer exasperation. “Who brings someone else along on a blind date? Get out.”
It wasn’t a discussion; it was an order.
Reluctantly, Song Xingmian finally got out of the car. Right in front of Wen Yuhuai, he pulled on Lin Shiyu’s door handle.
It didn’t open.
Wen Yuhuai then looked at Lin Shiyu with an accommodating tone. “Let him keep you company today. You two have a good time. I have serious business to attend to, so I’ll be taking my leave.”
Without waiting for a reaction from either of them, he stepped on the gas. The car swiftly merged into the bustling traffic and vanished.
“…”
Lin Shiyu completely dropped the good-tempered facade he wore in front of Wen Yuhuai. Having no intention of letting Song Xingmian in, he stepped on the gas, preparing to chase after the car. Song Xingmian, who also had a car in the city but hadn’t driven it today, quickly took two steps forward and stood directly in front of the McLaren, blocking its path.
“Let me in.”
Lin Shiyu looked away in disdain, not sparing him a single glance.
Song Xingmian didn’t have the patience to argue with him. With an even more disdainful scoff, he said, “You don’t even know the places Brother usually likes to frequent, yet you want to go catch him in the act? What kind of sweet dream are you having?”
In the end, Lin Shiyu unlocked the doors and let him in.
“Tell me the location.”
Song Xingmian was quiet for a moment before spitting out an address.
Lin Shiyu drove them there, only to come up entirely empty-handed, just as expected.
It was normal. Wen Yuhuai’s whereabouts were unpredictable, and it wasn’t as if he visited fixed locations every day.
After checking three or four places and missing him every time, they finally spotted Wen Yuhuai at the main entrance of a high-end shopping mall.
He wasn’t alone. Beside him stood a tall woman with long, wavy hair. The two appeared to be intimately close, chatting and laughing together merrily.
