Chapter 103: Looking like a Playboy, Playing Even Wilder
Wen Yuhuai knew full well those two might follow him, so he made no effort to hide his tracks, openly asking the heiress out.
“I’ve heard about you for a long time, but today is the first time I’m seeing you in person.”
Wen Yuhuai’s eyes and brows curved into a brilliant smile. He tilted his head to look at her, raising an eyebrow slightly in a display of being flattered. “Is that so? I only knew I had a reputation in Beijing; am I famous here in Shenzhen too?”
His date today was the daughter of the Xu Group, a business partner of the Wen family. Their families were of equal standing, their ages were similar, and most importantly, her family was also pressuring her to settle down.
Xu Dai’en matched his smile perfectly, the two dimples on her cheeks flashing faintly. “My dad must have mentioned you to me a hundred times. He said you’re a rare young talent and told me to interact with you more.”
Wen Yuhuai feigned a serious expression. “Well, here is our perfect opportunity.”
Right beside them happened to be a café. Given the time of day, there were very few people inside—just a scattering of customers enjoying afternoon tea. He suggested, “How about we go inside and sit for a bit?”
Xu Dai’en didn’t act coy, smiling gracefully. “Sure.”
The two entered the café and found a corner table by the window.
Out of the corner of his eye, Wen Yuhuai immediately spotted two familiar figures pacing not far from the café entrance. He took one glance and then completely withdrew his gaze. If they wanted to follow, let them follow. They were far enough away that they wouldn’t be able to hear a word he said anyway.
Sitting across from him, Xu Dai’en was no fool. She could tell he had an agenda. Propping her chin on her hand, she looked at him with a bright smile and cut straight to the chase. “Whatever you want to say, just say it. I actually have quite a good impression of you, and I wouldn’t mind getting to know you on a deeper level.”
She was speaking from the heart. The circle of wealthy elites was only so big, and having grown up in Shenzhen, she knew the prominent heirs inside and out. The more impeccably dressed they looked on the surface, the more beastly and vile they were behind closed doors. Just looking at them made her lose her appetite, let alone considering a political marriage with any of them.
Now, a fresh face had finally entered the circle, and one who perfectly matched her aesthetic tastes. Assuming he didn’t have a chaotic private life, it would be best to lock him down early.
Wen Yuhuai’s fingers tightened slightly around his coffee cup. When he lifted his eyes to look at the woman across from him, his face betrayed not a hint of abnormality. Instead, he put on an apologetic expression. “Then I’m afraid I’m going to disappoint Miss Xu. To tell you the truth, I came today to discuss a business proposition.”
The smile on Xu Dai’en’s face grew brighter, making her dimples even more pronounced, looking exactly like a naive, affluent young lady. “What kind of proposition? Let’s hear it.”
Wen Yuhuai lowered his eyes to the coffee in front of him, sighing with a hint of manufactured melancholy. He actually pulled off the ‘troubled playboy’ act quite well. “It’s because I owe too many romantic debts out there, and my creditors have all come knocking at my door. I truly can’t pay them back anymore, so I came to see if Miss Xu would be willing to cooperate.”
He paused imperceptibly. He realized he didn’t even have to act that much—after all, the two pacing outside the door right now were his romantic debts, even if he hadn’t been the one to actively provoke them.
Xu Dai’en roughly understood his meaning, but still asked, “What exactly does Mr. Wen want to cooperate on?”
Wen Yuhuai met her gaze, speaking without a change in expression or a skip in his heartbeat. “I heard your family is also pressing you to settle down. Why don’t we mutually benefit from this? We can have a fake engagement to pass the test with our families. Afterwards, we can both continue playing the field. Whenever Miss Xu wants to end this arrangement, you can. I will shoulder the blame.”
As soon as he said this, the smile on Xu Dai’en’s face faded noticeably, and her attitude grew far colder. She cast him a half-smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “You certainly look like a playboy.”
Wen Yuhuai slanted a glance toward the window, feeling an undeniable wave of indignation in his heart. It was all the fault of those two troublemakers outside, ruining his reputation the moment he arrived in Shenzhen.
Regardless of what he thought internally, when he looked back at her, his smile remained as charming as ever. “I’ll take that as a compliment, Miss Xu.”
Xu Dai’en picked up her coffee cup, took a sip, and let out a soft huff before unhurriedly dropping the second half of her assessment: “As expected. Looking like a playboy, playing even wilder.”
Wen Yuhuai’s eyelashes fluttered. He smoothly tried to salvage the conversation. “So about this cooperation…”
Xu Dai’en’s face bloomed with a smile once more, carrying a hint of profound meaning. “I’ll go back and think it over. I’ll give you my answer in a couple of days.”
………… ……
Not far away, Song Xingmian watched the two talking and laughing merrily, his eyes turning red with sheer rage. Forced to suppress it, his voice sounded as if it were being squeezed through gritted teeth.
“What are they talking about? Why is Brother smiling so happily?”
It couldn’t possibly be love at first sight, planning their engagement right here and now, could it?
