Chapter 78: Settling Scores Slowly
Mu Feng’s back shuddered again. He denied it desperately: “No, I’m not.”
Liang Yuhang merely looked at him in silence.
Mu Feng frantically reached out to press the isolation room’s door handle, using all his strength to push the man out the door: “You need to leave.”
Liang Yuhang didn’t budge an inch.
“I’m begging you.” Mu Feng was on the verge of a breakdown, his mind a complete mess, babbling incoherently. “It really is contagious!”
“Answer my question.” Liang Yuhang looked at him coolly. “Are you an Alpha?”
Mu Feng shook his head desperately, not daring to admit it, merely repeating over and over again: “Please go out first, okay? Don’t stay in here.”
Using almost every ounce of strength in his body, he yanked the door open, violently shoved Liang Yuhang out, and then locked it.
The door to the isolation room had a small pane of glass. He stood inside the room, watching as Liang Yuhang looked at him with a complex gaze.
Mu Feng averted his eyes, not daring to meet his gaze, afraid to face everything that was to follow.
He merely lowered his head, frantically grabbing the isolation room’s measuring instrument to run a test.
“Hormonal disorder, blood infection concentration level is excessively high,” the machine emitted a mechanical test result.
Mu Feng calmly took a syringe to draw his own blood, gasping for air while simultaneously performing debridement.
Liang Yuhang returned. He had changed into a heavily sealed hazmat suit, carrying a full set of medical agents and debridement instruments, and directly kicked open the isolation room door.
At the massive sound, Mu Feng turned his head, looking at him, his entire body stiffening: “Professor Liang… don’t come closer…”
Liang Yuhang didn’t say a word. He backhandedly slammed the door shut, strode over, snatched his hand, and administered an intravenous push injection.
Mu Feng was breathing heavily, still trying to warn him: “Even with a hazmat suit, it might not be completely isolated. It’s still very dangerous, you—”
“You knew it was dangerous, yet you still went?” Liang Yuhang said coldly. “Is your brain just for decoration?”
Mu Feng bit down hard on his lower lip, terrified that even his breathing would infect him.
“Speak.” Liang Yuhang’s sense of oppression was dialed up to the extreme.
“I…” Mu Feng’s entire body was shaking. He couldn’t open his mouth to admit it. He had finally managed to get engaged to Liang Yuhang with such great difficulty.
He knew it was just a dream, but he hadn’t expected the dream to shatter into fragments so quickly.
Liang Yuhang withdrew the needle, pressing a cotton swab against the puncture with his left hand, while his right hand cleanly removed Mu Feng’s suppression bracelet.
“No!!!” Mu Feng reached out to grab it but missed.
The bell fell to the floor, emitting a very soft, crisp chime.
In an instant, the scent of a mountain breeze carrying a rich aroma of grass and trees swept through the entire isolation room—the intense, ferocious pheromones of an Alpha.
Liang Yuhang furrowed his brows, forcibly enduring the attack from one of his own kind.
He was so furious he actually laughed: “This is your true scent, isn’t it?”
Mu Feng desperately tried to suppress it, but due to the infection, his entire spiritual power was exceptionally weak, and the pheromones raged even more wildly.
“Are you feeling very uncomfortable?” His lips trembled. “Don’t mind me anymore, I can handle it myself.”
“Handle what?” Liang Yuhang’s gaze swept over his facial features—those innocent eyes that hid so, so many secrets behind them.
It seemed he had never truly known Mu Feng at all.
“The injection is done, and I caught it early, so there won’t be any major issues.” Mu Feng spoke very rapidly, constantly urging the man to leave. “Leave first, please?”
Liang Yuhang suppressed his physiological instinct to counter-attack, striving to maintain his calm: “Do you have nothing else to say?”
Mu Feng shook his head: “I lied to you, I’m sorry. If you wish to break off the engagement, I will fully cooperate at any time. But pretending to be an Omega was my only way to survive. I had no other choice.”
Liang Yuhang closed his eyes. Unable to endure it any longer, he directly pinned him down onto the adjacent hospital bed, raised his hand, and delivered slap after slap.
With every strike, he demanded an answer.
“Why didn’t you say anything from the beginning?”
“You had countless opportunities to confess.”
“Including this morning, right before executing the mission.”
“You’d rather get infected than open your mouth.”
“Mu Feng, am I that unworthy of your trust?”
Mu Feng lay prone there, his tears flowing uncontrollably. He had broken Liang Yuhang’s heart, even though that had never been his intention.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”
It seemed that other than apologizing, he couldn’t say anything else. He was completely unable to defend himself.
Liang Yuhang looked at the back of his neck and his arms, which had already broken out in large patches of redness.
Within the entire room, the two scents of absinthe and grass-and-trees were clashing fiercely against one another. Neither was having an easy time.
“Other than ‘I’m sorry’, what else can you say?” Liang Yuhang’s breathing was erratic, his heart shuddering.
Mu Feng buried his head into his arms. No one had ever taught him what to do in this kind of situation. He was panicked, helpless, speaking without thinking, wishing for nothing more than to run away.
“Professor Liang, I know you are very disappointed in me,” he choked out a sob. “But I beg you, do not expose my Alpha identity to anyone. I’m afraid it will drag up the old, cold case of my eldest sister. I don’t want to be interrogated and investigated anymore.”
Liang Yuhang reached out, forcing his head to turn around so their eyes met.
He reached out to grip his reddened neck, his fingers pressing against the other’s bobbing Adam’s apple.
“You can speak perfectly fine, can’t you? What, were you mute before?”
Mu Feng felt as though he was being deprived of oxygen. He tilted his head back slightly, weeping silently.
Provoked by the pheromones, Liang Yuhang was incredibly irritable: “This isn’t over. Wait until you recover. I will slowly settle the score with you, and we’ll see exactly when you can learn to be honest with me.”
Mu Feng’s eyes were red and swollen from crying, feeling as if he was going to shed a lifetime’s worth of tears all at once.
He didn’t dare to use his previous tactic of showing weakness to beg for mercy. He gave a very slight nod, reaching out to grab the bracelet on the floor.
Liang Yuhang merely watched with cold detachment.
Mu Feng picked it up with difficulty, rustling as he put the bracelet back on and adjusted it to the maximum setting. The room full of pheromones was finally withdrawn.
“You should go.” Mu Feng was still very worried about him. “I can take good care of myself.”
Liang Yuhang let out a soft scoff: “Take care of yourself right into an isolation ward?”
Mu Feng knew he had absolutely zero credibility right now. Whatever mockery the other man threw his way, he accepted it: “If you want to scold me, then just scold me.”
It truly took every ounce of Liang Yuhang’s decorum to keep from cursing. His chest heaved as he endured and endured: “Don’t do anything reckless again. I’m going to deal with the aftermath.”
He placed the medicine bottle on the bedside table, got up, and strode away.
Concealing the fact that Mu Feng was an Alpha wasn’t going to be easy, especially since he was in the infection stage. With so many doctors going back and forth, it would be extremely easy for someone to spot the clues.
As he walked out, he contacted 0717: “Go look into Mu Feng’s eldest sister. Pull up the police report from back then, and if she has medical records, bring those to me as well.”
“What’s wrong? Already starting to care about his family? Boss, you’ve fallen in love!” 0717 sounded delighted. “It seems your relationship has advanced by leaps and bounds these past few days in the war zone. What a pity the great Lord 0717 isn’t at the scene. Otherwise, my little face would be completely yellow with smutty thoughts.”
“Say one more word and I’m throwing you into the junkyard,” Liang Yuhang said coldly.
“So scary. It seems you’re in a bad mood today. Muting my mic, muting my mic. Goodbye.” 0717 logged off with lightning speed.
Liang Yuhang then went to find Zhang Luyan: “That group of infected Alphas, what is their status now?”
“Isolation treatment, blood debridement.” Zhang Luyan shot him a suspicious look. “Why aren’t you accompanying your wife? What are you wandering around here for? Careful you don’t get infected.”
Bringing this up only fueled his anger. Liang Yuhang frowned: “You had him treat twenty patients in one morning. Are you even human? Now he’s so exhausted he’s in the isolation room.”
If it weren’t for the high-frequency contact, he wouldn’t have been so easily infected while wearing protective gear.
“Are you human? Is that any way to speak to your teacher?” Zhang Luyan wished he could kick him. “It’s possible to get hundreds in the emergency room! Is twenty a lot? You’ve lost your conscience trying to protect your wife. Your brain must be pickled in formalin.”
Liang Yuhang still had to keep the secret, leaving his dark fury with nowhere to vent: “He is resting for the next few days. Don’t arrange any work for him.”
“How rare, Liang Yuhang. To think you’d see a day like this.” Zhang Luyan spoke cryptically. “It couldn’t be that you tormented the boy too much, and now you’re pinning the blame on my head, could it?”
Liang Yuhang: “………”
Liang Yuhang couldn’t be bothered with him. He turned and left.
Just as he was preparing to return to the isolation room, he bumped into Jiang Yu’an, who had slept until the afternoon and finally sobered up. Their eyes met, neither wanting to speak.
“Hey, wait. I just heard from Zhou Tiantian that Mu Bao suddenly went into the isolation room.”
As soon as Jiang Yu’an opened his mouth, his speech still carried the slurred fuzziness of a hangover. He said sluggishly, “He… He’s an Omega, what is he doing in the isolation room? I’m going to see him.”
Just a moment ago, Mu Feng had cried and begged him not to tell anyone, unwilling to let others see him in such a pathetic state.
Liang Yuhang reached out, dragged the guy back, and answered coldly: “He accompanied me through my susceptibility period and got f*cked until he passed out. Is that answer satisfactory?”
