Chapter 77: Truly Capable
Mu Feng silently counted in his heart just how many things he had lied to Liang Yuhang about.
If he was found out, would he really be punished by this pervert?
Why was he actually looking forward to it a little?
He now somewhat understood Jiang Yu’an’s mindset; eager to provoke, it was very thrilling.
“Like what?” Mu Feng probed aloud.
Liang Yuhang narrowed his eyes. “Like locking you up the way I did last time. The gift Jiang Yu’an gave you before could probably be put to use as well. There’s more—do you want to hear it?”
Mu Feng: !!!!!
Liang Yuhang truly was exactly as 0717 described—even more dominant and perverted than he had imagined.
They weren’t even a couple yet and he was already bringing this level of intensity. If they actually got together, how wild would it get?
He just didn’t know if calling him “Daddy” would still be of any use when the time came.
“I’m not listening anymore.” Mu Feng raised his hands to cover his ears and collapsed onto the sofa. “Sleeping.”
The next morning, he was woken up by two phone calls ringing simultaneously.
One was from Jiang Yu’an, whining and crying: “I threw up three times last night. Damn it, Lu Zhuo isn’t human. He literally drank me under the table.”
Oh, he wasn’t even calling him “Brother” anymore. It seemed his resentment was truly deep.
Mu Feng had just woken up, his voice still carrying a nasal tone. “Didn’t do anything else?”
“I don’t know, I completely blacked out.” Jiang Yu’an sighed heavily. “I’m not drinking anymore. I swear, starting today, I’m quitting alcohol to become a virtuous young man!”
Mu Feng let out a laugh, turned his head, and saw that Liang Yuhang was already neatly dressed, pointing a finger at the phone in his hand.
Mu Feng said, “Then take a good rest for the day. I’ll come see you later.”
He hung up the phone, and only then did Liang Yuhang answer his: “Professor, go ahead.”
“A batch of virus-infected Alphas just arrived at the emergency department. To prevent any accidents among our staff, all Alphas have been pulled back. Omegas and Betas are being sent to assist with medical treatment. We’re short-handed. Have Mu Feng lead a team of students over immediately. I messaged him, but he didn’t answer. This is an order from the higher-ups.” Zhang Luyan rapidly issued the instructions.
Liang Yuhang had it on speakerphone. He raised his eyes to look at the person still lying messily under the covers: “Did you hear that?”
Mu Feng groggily buried himself in the blanket, rolled around twice, and fully woke up.
Alphas were susceptible to infection, which meant he…
He got up, changed his clothes, looked down and adjusted his suppression bracelet to the tightest setting. Taking advantage of Liang Yuhang’s distraction, he stealthily injected himself with two doses of high-level defense reagent.
Orders could not be disobeyed. He could only take a gamble.
“Such a serious expression. Is there a problem?” Liang Yuhang stood in the living room looking down to tie his necktie, watching him through the mirror.
Mu Feng gently shook his head. “I’m heading over now.”
“Do you want me to accompany you?” Liang Yuhang asked.
“No need. You’re still in your susceptibility period, so you’re already very fragile,” Mu Feng said.
Liang Yuhang gave a very light quirk of his lips. Fragile. To think this word could actually be applied to him.
“I’ll walk you down.” He raised a hand and opened the door.
Mu Feng strode out, went to the locker room to change into a hazmat suit, and walked into the emergency hall.
The entire space was filled with an eerie atmosphere. The Alphas lying on the stretchers looked to be in unbearable agony.
“What is the source of the infection?” Mu Feng squatted down, examined one of the patients, and asked the nurse beside him.
The nurse replied, “It hasn’t been identified yet. But a few of them have had heart surgery in the past, so their immune systems are already compromised. I don’t know how they passed the military physical examination.”
Mu Feng unbuttoned the clothes of one of the men and was startled to see a scar on his chest.
It looked so familiar. The suturing technique looked exactly like the one on Liang Yuhang’s body.
Liang Yuhang’s surgery had been personally performed by Liang Zhaoqing. Before retiring, Liang Zhaoqing was also a renowned military doctor; he later went into business and washed his hands of the medical field completely.
Mu Feng’s fingertips brushed over that scar. “When was your heart surgery?”
The injured Alpha answered with difficulty: “I don’t remember. Maybe seven or eight years ago.”
“What do you feel right now?”
“Chest tightness, mania, and my whole body feels like a hundred ants are crawling all over it.”
Mu Feng made an initial diagnosis: “It should be a stimulant agent used on the battlefield to excite Alphas for combat, but the dosage was too intense, causing everyone to have negative reactions.”
Along with several other students, he transported dozens of casualties into isolation rooms one by one—administering injections, giving treatment, and bandaging. One of the casualties reacted violently, tearing off his protective glove and leaving two scratch marks on his hand.
Feeling a wave of dizziness, Mu Feng gasped for air inside his hazmat suit, yet it was still unbearable.
When he came back out, Zhou Tiantian turned to look at him: “Mu Feng, why is your hand so red? Are you having an allergic reaction?”
Mu Feng looked down and discovered that the spot where he had touched the Alpha’s blood had already broken out in a red rash.
Alphas were susceptible to infection. He hadn’t expected to be so unlucky as to be attacked and injured by the other party.
Mu Feng’s breathing became slightly more difficult. “It might be an allergy.”
“Aren’t Omegas immune to it?” Zhou Tiantian leaned closer. “You don’t look quite right. Should I call Dr. Liang over?”
Mu Feng shook his head, looking down to inspect his hand. The redness was spreading in large patches.
He strode out of the emergency room, keeping his distance as he called Zhang Luyan. He spoke in a low voice: “I need to request a leave. I’m not feeling well.”
“What are you standing so far away for?” Zhang Luyan looked at him suspiciously. “Aren’t you an Omega?”
“I am.” Mu Feng felt his breathing had already become somewhat labored, his chest swelling and feeling stuffy. “I’m guessing I was affected by the pheromones. I’ll find an isolation room. You go busy yourself first. Don’t tell Professor Liang; I’ll be fine after resting for a bit.”
Zhang Luyan immediately raised his hand and turned on his communicator: “Liang Yuhang, your wife is unwell. Come down to the first floor.”
Mu Feng: “………”
This blabbermouth. How could he just turn his head and spill everything right away?
His lips were deathly pale, and he rested his head against the wall, wondering how he was going to explain this in a moment.
Liang Yuhang hurried downstairs. His strides were long, his movements kicking up a breeze that caused his white coat to billow and settle.
“Don’t come over.” Mu Feng took three steps back.
Liang Yuhang was right in the middle of his susceptibility period. What if he accidentally infected him too?
“What are you doing?” Liang Yuhang frowned.
“Don’t come closer, don’t come closer. Just stand there.” Mu Feng’s face was even paler now. “Maintain a three-meter distance.”
“Allergic reaction?” Liang Yuhang couldn’t be bothered with his nonsense. He walked right up to him, rolled up his hazmat suit sleeves, and grabbed Mu Feng’s hand to inspect it. “Where else feels uncomfortable?”
Mu Feng pushed him away, backing up a few steps. He turned his head to the side, doing his best to avoid sharing the same air with him as he answered truthfully: “Shortness of breath. Chest tightness.”
“You…” Liang Yuhang looked at him, then looked toward the isolation room inside. Combining this with all the previous incidents, a speculation slowly floated to the surface.
The current symptoms of stress infection, the aggressive pheromones, the suppression bracelet he never took off, his claims of not being able to be marked or get pregnant…
All the intertwined clues pointed toward a single conclusion.
He might not be an Omega at all.
“Mu Feng, are you hiding something from me?” His tone was extremely heavy.
Mu Feng’s entire body trembled uncontrollably. He didn’t say a word, his eyes completely red.
Seeing his reaction, Liang Yuhang’s speculation became even clearer.
Not denying it meant silently admitting it.
“What did you say last night? ‘What would you do if I got really angry?’, right?” Liang Yuhang’s tone was freezing. “I am extremely angry right now. What the hell are you playing at?”
Mu Feng’s teeth bit down on his trembling lower lip: “Military orders cannot be disobeyed.”
“You’re gambling with your life!” Liang Yuhang raised his voice, reaching out to drag him. “Come to the isolation room with me right now.”
“Don’t hold my hand…” Mu Feng was terrified to the extreme, deeply afraid of infecting him. “Professor Liang, let go. Let go, I’ll go to the isolation room myself.”
Liang Yuhang didn’t say a word, clutching his hand in a vice grip and dragging him toward the adjacent isolation room.
Mu Feng squeezed his eyes shut, tears falling drop by drop inside the protective visor.
It was over. He was going to be found out.
If Liang Yuhang knew he was an Alpha, would he break off their engagement? He couldn’t even manage to serve properly as a meat shield for a fake marriage.
Liang Yuhang inputted the passcode, opened the isolation room, and locked both himself and Mu Feng inside.
“Take off the hazmat suit,” Liang Yuhang ordered.
“No.” Mu Feng shook his head, constantly trying to maintain distance from him. “I’m begging you, please get out. It’s contagious.”
“When you accepted the order this morning, didn’t you know it could be contagious?” Liang Yuhang reached out and cleanly unfastened his visor, gripping the back of his neck to force him to look up at him. “Beyond stupid.”
His entire figure was backlit, obscuring the expression on his face, which made him appear even more full of hostile malice.
Mu Feng’s tears fell drop by drop as he softly apologized: “I was wrong, Professor Liang. Don’t be angry.”
Liang Yuhang stared at him, gritting his teeth, and enunciated each word clearly: “You truly are far too capable. You’re an Alpha, aren’t you? Mu Feng.”
