Chapter 54: Brother Chen Wei, Are You Planning to Leave?
Despite all of Chen Wei’s calculations, he hadn’t expected to still accidentally bump into Zhou Sijin in the end.
Looking at the person appearing in the villa right now, Chen Wei felt his two unanswered phone calls in the car were like a joke.
The people in the villa weren’t blind; when they called Zhou Sijin, they had surely reported everything that happened here to him in detail over the phone.
The most ridiculous part was that he clearly knew what happened, yet he still insisted on interrogating him and embarrassing him in front of everyone.
Since that was the case, he would give him what he wanted.
“As you can see.”
Not wanting to get into unnecessary arguments with him at a time like this, Chen Wei lazily lifted his eyelids and answered him with a flat expression:
“You hadn’t come back for two days, and I was curious about your whereabouts, so I sent someone to tail you. But the person tailing you wasn’t very skilled and got caught red-handed by your people.”
Pulling Jiang Chuan behind him to protect him, Chen Wei absolved him of the blame:
“Stalking you was entirely my idea. I threatened Jiang Chuan by holding leverage over him; it has absolutely nothing to do with him.”
With that said, Chen Wei closed his mouth again, waiting quietly in silence for Zhou Sijin’s next question.
However, his explanation only caused Zhou Sijin’s brows to furrow even deeper.
Clearly, Zhou Sijin didn’t believe Chen Wei’s words.
His gaze dropping to Ji Can sitting in the wheelchair beside them, Zhou Sijin half-closed his eyes and asked him:
“Is that so?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Since Chen Wei didn’t mention the agreement between the two of them, Ji Can naturally wouldn’t be stupid enough to bring it up himself.
Like a chicken pecking at grain, he nodded his head very eagerly.
But the more he acted like this, the more Zhou Sijin felt something wasn’t quite right.
He clearly remembered the butler saying over the phone that Chen Wei had come to cause trouble for Ji Can.
Afraid that the two would get into a dispute, the moment he got off the plane, he had rushed here without a second’s delay.
But the situation seemed to have unfolded much more peacefully than he had imagined.
There was no scene of loud arguing as he had expected; the interaction between Chen Wei and Ji Can seemed almost too harmonious.
His mind had been so focused on this matter that Zhou Sijin had even forgotten he was supposed to take issue with Chen Wei secretly sending someone to tail him.
Meeting Zhou Sijin’s scrutinizing gaze, Chen Wei didn’t give him much time to think further.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving first.”
With that, Chen Wei stepped past Zhou Sijin, preparing to leave.
Before he had taken two steps, his arm was suddenly grabbed.
Chen Wei glanced sideways.
Zhou Sijin looked back at him, pretending as if nothing had happened.
“Wait for me at home tonight,” he said.
Hearing this, Chen Wei’s brows gathered slightly. He ignored Zhou Sijin, his peripheral vision subconsciously flicking towards Ji Can behind him.
Seeing no extra reaction on Ji Can’s face, he withdrew his gaze and looked at Zhou Sijin again.
Without a word, he simply pulled his arm from his grip, then took large strides out of the villa.
.
Getting into the car, after instructing Han Chi to drop him off at Jiahe Yuan, Chen Wei closed his eyes, leaned against the back seat, and didn’t speak again.
Jiang Chuan, completely in the dark about what had happened, reached out and tapped Han Chi, who was driving.
Han Chi could only use his eyes to signal him to shut his mouth and not disturb Chen Wei’s rest.
Although full of doubts, Jiang Chuan obediently closed his mouth.
His worried eyes constantly glanced at Chen Wei through the rearview mirror.
As the car drove into the city, Chen Wei in the back seat slowly opened his eyes.
Jiang Chuan perked up and was just about to call out to him.
“What’s the date today?”
Chen Wei’s voice drifted into his ears from the back seat without warning.
Jiang Chuan was stunned.
He checked the screen of his phone.
Looking at Chen Wei in the rearview mirror, he replied:
“It’s the twenty-ninth, two more days until New Year’s Day.”
Chen Wei nodded, closed his eyes again, and didn’t speak.
The car slowly came to a stop at Jiahe Yuan.
Turning around, they saw Chen Wei still resting with his eyes closed.
Exchanging a glance, Han Chi and Jiang Chuan tacitly remained silent to avoid waking him.
After an unknown amount of time, the two finally saw Chen Wei’s eyes open in the rearview mirror once more.
The three of them locked eyes through the mirror.
A moment later, Chen Wei suddenly spoke:
“Brother Han, I’ll have to ask you to work a little harder for a while. Help me cancel all my schedules for before and after the New Year.”
“Huh?” Han Chi was astounded.
He was silent for so long, and when he finally spoke, he terrified the other two in the car.
In the past, when Chen Wei wasn’t very popular, he didn’t have many schedules to attend to. Although he would occasionally take a break, he had never been this negative and unwilling to work before.
Never mind after the New Year, the period leading up to it was exactly when the entertainment industry was packed with various events.
Thanks to the recent trending topic, Chen Wei had gained a small reputation in the industry.
Many event organizers had expressed interest in inviting him to attend.
But now, he was actually asking to cancel everything.
As his manager, how could Han Chi not be anxious?
“Xiao Wei…” Han Chi wanted to talk him out of it.
Chen Wei waved his hand to interrupt him:
“As for the events we’ve already agreed to, if I can’t attend, have Jiang Chuan go in my place…”
Turning his head, Jiang Chuan looked at him with worried eyes.
From the moment he got in the car, he had been secretly observing Chen Wei’s mood.
Even though Chen Wei sat in the back with his eyes closed, his constantly furrowed brows made it clear that his heart was far from calm.
“Brother Wei, you…”
Meeting Jiang Chuan’s concerned gaze, Chen Wei forced a smile and explained:
“Don’t worry, it’s just that too many things have happened lately and I feel a bit tired, so I want to take this time to get some good rest.”
Jiang Chuan didn’t know what had happened to make Chen Wei disregard everything and make such a decision.
In his heart, he already considered Chen Wei his mentor and guide.
But Chen Wei’s way of delegating his remaining affairs didn’t look like he just “wanted to get some rest” at all.
Swallowing hard, Jiang Chuan gathered his courage and asked him carefully:
“Brother Chen Wei, are you planning to leave?”
Chen Wei listened to his question with a smile.
In the end, he didn’t answer directly. He simply reached out, patted his shoulder, and earnestly instructed him:
“While I’m resting, just follow Brother Han’s lead and work hard. Be sure not to do anything foolish again this time.”
“Brother Chen Wei…”
It would have been better if he hadn’t said that. Once he did, Jiang Chuan immediately broke down, his face visibly filling with panic.
He reached out to grab Chen Wei in the back seat, trying to make him stay through his actions.
But the moment he reached out, his arm was forcefully caught by someone.
Following the line of sight, he saw Han Chi looking at him with a solemn expression and shaking his head.
However, in that brief moment of distraction, Chen Wei in the back seat had already opened the door and quickly stepped out of the car before them.
Shaking off Han Chi’s hand, Jiang Chuan turned around and was about to open the door to chase after him.
That person had only just pulled him out of the abyss, and now he was mercilessly abandoning him.
They had agreed that he would take him along no matter where he went!
How could he go back on his word!
