Chapter 149: Cannot Live Without Her
Could it be?
His brother’s smart brain was the most advanced and intelligent existence in the world. How could the “Heart-Hunting Plan” he devised have failed?
Even if it had failed, surely he wouldn’t react like this?
As she was thinking, she saw him enter the castle and lock himself in a secret room. The last time he had entered that room was when he differentiated into his Diamond Mecha Warrior form, fearing he might accidentally hurt others.
“Brother, what are you doing in the secret room?”
“Brother…”
Yue Ling initially thought he had entered the secret room just to temporarily sort out his feelings. She never expected that once he went in, he would stay there for three days and three nights.
During those three days, he didn’t eat a single grain of rice, didn’t drink a drop of water, and didn’t say a single word. No matter how she shouted or pleaded from outside, he remained indifferent.
He lived like a dead man without breath.
In the corner of the pitch-black secret room, the youth slumped on the floor, staring unblinkingly at the motionless holographic screen. A bitter smile gradually tugged at the corners of his mouth—a smile so wretched it looked like crying.
He had implanted his smart brain consciousness into every smart home device in her house. He had infused his combat power into every gift he had given her.
But the smart systems had been replaced.
And his gifts… he hadn’t felt her touch them once. It was as if they had been discarded. Just like him.
Sister, do you really not want me anymore?
Sister, didn’t you say you would never abandon Little Ears?
He lowered his head, despondently sniffing a pair of wristbands printed with “Little Ears’ Exclusive.” The scent of tulips on them had completely dissipated, providing no comfort to his anxious emotions. He frantically opened his suitcase, searching for any item stained with her scent, only to see an orange-yellow carrot squishy toy quietly roll out.
[Sister, wait for me at home after work. I have a surprise for you!]
That day, after he sent the message, the response he received was:
[Little Ears, I have a surprise for you, too.]
The youth’s knuckles trembled as he picked up the carrot, clutching it tightly in his palm. Large, crystalline teardrops of remorse crashed down.
‘Then can I call you Little Ears?’
‘Little Ears, happy birthday!’
‘Little Ears, you’re so cute!’
‘Little Ears, your cooking is amazing!’
‘Little Ears, what do I have to do to make you stop being angry?’
‘Little Ears, stay. I’ll take responsibility for you.’
Over the past few days, her voice, her face, her silhouette, her every smile, every frown, every playful tease, and every bit of anger had swirled in his mind, filling his entire heart.
But whenever he tried to reach out and touch them, they vanished without a trace, as if they had never existed in his life.
“Sister, I miss you. I miss you so much…”
All along, she had faced him with the most sincere and frank attitude, even when she believed he was just a low-grade beastman.
Yet he had been deceiving her the entire time.
“Sister, I was wrong. I know I was wrong… I truly know I was wrong…”
He buried his head deeply, suddenly bursting into tears. His hoarse, suppressed sobs sounded like those of a desperate, abandoned young beast.
“Sister.”
“Sister…”
“Sister, Sister…”
The heartbeat of love at first sight had initially made him think she was merely the icing on the cake of his life. But unknowingly, she had taken deep root in his heart. She had sprouted, grown leaves, and bloomed. Now that she was being forcibly uprooted, it tore through his flesh and blood, as if his very soul were being stripped away.
It hurt. It hurt so much.
On the first day Yue Zhongxian entered the secret room, Yue Ling shouted frantically outside. Realizing it was useless, she tried to video call Su Miantang via her optical computer, only to find… she had been blocked?
On the second day, Yue Ling brought their parents to persuade him, but there was still no response.
On the third day, the entire Yue family feared something had happened to him. They summoned military warriors and used energy bombs to forcibly blow open the door.
A sliver of sunlight finally shone into the dim secret room. Through the swirling dust, Yue Ling saw a shocking sight.
The youth was slumped on the floor, his eyes hollow and his face as pale as paper. He looked… as if he had lost the spark of life. She paled in shock and ran over, only to find his face mottled with tear stains.
Brother… cried?
The dignified Number One Interstellar Commander, the invincible master of the battlefield, had actually cried? For some reason, seeing this scene, her own nose twitched, and she felt like crying too.
“Brother, what on earth is wrong with you? What happened? How did you end up like this…”
“Yue Ling.”
“Brother!”
Seeing that he was finally willing to speak, Yue Ling leaned in excitedly.
“Tell me… am I really indestructible?”
“Of course you are! You are the only SS-grade combat male of the herbivorous type. You are a natural-born Mecha Warrior, the pride of our entire clan. Nothing can destroy you!”
“But why do I feel like my heart is about to crack from the pain?”
“Waaaaah!”
Hearing this, Yue Ling completely broke down and began to wail.
“Brother, is it because Miantang found out about your identity and got angry? It’s all my fault. It’s my fault for not telling her the truth. I’ll go explain to her, I’ll go beg her to forgive you…”
They didn’t know how long she cried.
Before she could even get up to take action, he stood up first.
“Brother?”
Yue Ling looked up.
“Where are you going?”
“The Liberty Federation.”
The government?
What was he going to the government for now? Work?
But looking at his state, it didn’t seem like it…
Against the light, Yue Ling couldn’t see his features or expression clearly, but she faintly sensed a factor of madness.
“Brother, what are you trying to do? Hey!”
Before she could finish her sentence, his figure vanished from before her.
He thought…
He could lose everything, but he absolutely could not live without her.
