【1】Pressed Down and Kissed by a Little Kid
“Brother Yan, I’m begging you, please carry your bro!”
Zhao Dou clasped his hands together in prayer, pleading incessantly in front of the young man. “Do you have the heart to watch your brother get beaten like a dog in the treacherous depths of the canyon?”
“Besides, it’s the end of the season. All sorts of trash and monsters are coming out of the woodwork.”
Zhao Dou beat his chest and stomped his feet. “Brother Yan, how can I live without you, Brother Yan!”
Zhao Dou was already a bit chubby, and now that he was blocking the door, he exuded an aura that said, ‘If you don’t agree today, don’t even think about leaving.’
Jiang Yan had a headache from the noise. “Stop howling. I’ll carry you, alright?”
As if afraid he would run away, Zhao Dou immediately pushed Jiang Yan’s back, steering him outside. “Great! Let’s go, let’s go. Brother, the campus network is terrible. Let’s pull an all-nighter at the internet cafe today.”
This was the cheapest internet cafe near the university town. It was a mixed bag of people. The moment Jiang Yan walked in, he frowned at the strange, pungent mixture of cigarette smoke and instant noodles. He placed his ID card at the front desk to register, while Zhao Dou picked a corner and booted up two computers.
Although the environment wasn’t great, the cafe was bustling. When Jiang Yan entered, he swept a glance across the screens and noticed that most people were playing Lingxiao.
Lingxiao was currently the hottest MOBA game. It had been popular for four or five years, and its heat showed no signs of dying down. Not only did it have a massive player base, but the professional league was also well-established.
The bespectacled man in the next seat was watching a match. He took a sip of cola and shook his head. “Hey, this Jungler… he’s really lacking something.”
“Damn it, I’m sitting here trying to watch the match, and I have to listen to you spouting nonsense?” Another man, clearly built with muscles, slammed his mouse on the table upon hearing this. “Do you see that MVP? Carve it into your forehead. You’re all talk—if you’re so good, why don’t you go play pro?”
Glasses shrank back into his chair in fright. “I can’t do it. I’m just an ordinary player, I don’t need to compare myself to him. But his KDA is just passing grade. He’s far worse than my idol. Can’t I even say that?”
The muscular man’s temper flared instantly. “Who’s your idol? Open your dog eyes and look at the number one Jungler on the MVP leaderboard right now. If it’s not Yue Yang, you can eat that keyboard!”
Glasses was afraid he might get hit, but he still argued on principle. “If ‘Wind’ were here, would it even be his turn?”
“Wind isn’t even in the same weight class as him. Average damage per match, gold-to-damage conversion, KDA—which stat isn’t better than his?”
The muscular man fell silent. Indeed, anyone who watched the league matches knew Wind. The genius Jungler who debuted in the ninth season. Not only were his mechanics and operations incredibly fierce, but he could also command and manage the macro game. In one year, he took Team WK from an ordinary Group B team to Group A, then S, and finally won two consecutive championships.
In the battle that made him famous, his play on the hero ‘Ruiying’ was godlike. A perfect Pentakill team fight secured the victory. To this day, no one had been able to replicate his mechanics.
Wind was mysterious and low-key. The only image he ever left for the media was a profile shot wearing a mask. Later, after inexplicably announcing his retirement, he became like a ephemeral flower—blooming with breathtaking beauty for just a moment.
The muscular man pursed his lips, scoffed coldly, and sat back in his seat. “What’s the point of talking about a retired has-been?”
Jiang Yan heard their conversation. When selecting his hero, his mouse hovered over ‘Ruiying’ for a few seconds before he finally switched to another: ‘Wujian’.
Seeing him pick Wujian, Zhao Dou blossomed with joy inside. “Brother Yan, you’ve even picked Wujian! We’re definitely winning this one! If we don’t reach Grandmaster tonight, I’d be letting you down!”
Jiang Yan didn’t speak. His flexible, slender fingers tapped clack-clack on the keyboard.
“The enemy Mid Laner showed his face in the bottom lane. I’ll camp him and start a fight in a bit. Brother Yan, wait for him to use his skills, then cut in directly!”
Jiang Yan had just taken the Red Buff in the jungle and naturally slipped into the grass. “Sure.”
Watching Zhao Dou control his hero to release skills, Jiang Yan was just about to go in and cut down the carry when he heard an impatient voice coming from above his head:
“My boyfriend is right here. Can you stop harassing me?”
Another boy’s voice followed: “Ran Ran, don’t be like this. I came to find you this time because I know you still like me.”
Jiang Yan paused slightly. A romantic dispute between two guys? They play pretty wild.
“You think I’m lying to you?”
Jiang Yan only had time to hear this one sentence before his neck was wrapped in someone’s arms. The stranger straddled his legs directly, hands pushing against his shoulders to pin him back into the chair, and kissed his lips without a care in the world.
When they parted, the stranger leaned naturally into the crook of Jiang Yan’s neck, but his eyes were fixed on the boy opposite them. “Why haven’t you rolled away yet?”
He turned his head slightly, letting his lips brush against Jiang Yan’s neck seemingly by accident, and said, “Or is it that you want to watch the rest without paying?”
The boy’s face twisted as he pointed at his nose and cursed, “Wen Ran, you’re truly shameless!”
So his name is Wen Ran.
Jiang Yan looked at the person in his arms. He looked only seventeen or eighteen. Although his clothes were worn, they were washed very clean, carrying a faint scent of soap powder.
His brows and eyes were exquisite, and there was a small mole behind his ear. He looked like a kitten baring its fangs and brandishing its claws.
Wen Ran didn’t get angry at the insult. Instead, he looked back at the other boy. “Thanks, but I’m still not as bad as you.”
“You!” Seeing Wen Ran unmoved, the boy started speaking sarcastically. “Just you? What kind of good partner could you find? Except for me being willing to pity you.”
“I’ll wait for you to come back begging me!”
“Then keep waiting,” Wen Ran choked him back deliberately. “My husband is handsome and loves me. His family has three houses, and every deed has my name on it. Unlike you, Li Hao—a moocher who eats soft rice yet talks tough. You still have the face to bark like a dog!”
“Since you’re so righteous, how about you pay back the money you owe me first?”
A man passing by looked them over, clicked his tongue, and said, “A perfectly good young man, how did he turn out to be a moocher?”
“You!” Li Hao’s face turned bright red, but he remained stubborn. “It was obviously you who were willing to spend it on me!”
Li Hao walked away dejectedly. Wen Ran watched him go far away before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
But then he heard Jiang Yan say, “Tsk. Little friend, let’s talk about the property deeds later. Can you get up first?”
