【Orange × Nan Xi】 : Caught Stealing a Kiss
Although the kitten had suffered significant trauma, it recovered well after treatment. Whenever Orange had free time, he would visit the clinic to see the kitten, and Nan Xi accompanied him almost every time.
By the time the kitten was mostly recovered, the question of where it should go became an issue.
The kitten was originally a stray, and it wouldn’t be easy to find a household willing to adopt it on such short notice.
After hesitating for a moment, Orange finally said, “Then I’ll take it back to the base to raise it.”
Although he hadn’t officially raised a cat before, he had interacted with Xiao Hua back when he was at WK, so he knew a bit about cat care.
Moreover, this kitten was so pitiful. Despite being hurt so badly, it was still willing to trust and get close to humans.
Whenever Orange beckoned, it would run over and rub its forehead against his hand.
The kitten was a small ginger cat. Now that its wounds were healed, its fur had become smooth and glossy. When Orange held it in his arms, it was a tiny little thing with round, incredibly cute eyes.
Nan Xi had accompanied him today as well. During this period, Orange had made many overt and subtle advances toward him. Although Nan Xi had rejected them all, he hadn’t completely ignored Orange. In fact, their interactions had increased.
“Should we go buy some supplies for it?” Nan Xi had already bought a cat carrier at the clinic and helped Orange place the kitten inside. “This will make it easier for you to carry.”
“Thank you.”
During the process of handing over the kitten, Nan Xi’s porcelain-white, flawless hand brushed against Orange’s as he took the carrier.
Although the skin-to-skin contact was brief, Orange’s face instantly flushed red.
He tucked his hand behind his back, quietly savoring the feeling of being touched by him just now.
He might not wash this hand today.
Orange stole a glance at Nan Xi holding the kitten. Nan Xi could easily hold the cat in his palm, his long fingers gently gripping the kitten’s body—it was as alluring as could be.
He wondered when those hands would ever hold his.
They found most of the kitten’s supplies at a pet store. After picking out the essentials, Orange wandered over to the toy section.
The area was filled with a dazzling array of toys. Orange picked up a cat teaser wand and flicked it in the air.
Nan Xi was currently holding the cat carrier, carefully looking at cat lickable treats on a nearby shelf.
As if struck by an idea, Orange tiptoed behind Nan Xi with the teaser wand and suddenly flicked it in front of him.
Nan Xi didn’t realize what it was at first. He instinctively dodged to the side and easily caught the end of the string, following the line with his eyes.
He immediately saw Orange’s curving, crescent eyes.
“Little kitty, I caught you!”
Orange had a smile on his face, his lips thin, soft, and deep red.
Perhaps because the air conditioning in the store was set high, his cheeks were flushed.
He looked soft and very “kissable.”
Nan Xi’s body stiffened. The thought that flashed through his mind like lightning made him feel a bit afraid.
Why would he have such a thought?
How could he have the impulse to kiss him?
This wasn’t a thought one should have about a teammate.
Clearly, the only person he had ever been moved by was Wen Ran.
Nan Xi didn’t have much of a childhood to speak of. His parents were a product of a family alliance with no emotional foundation. Both had their own lovers but were forced together for the sake of profit. He was the product of this lack of love. At home, he couldn’t feel any affection from his parents; they treated him like a stranger and often went days without saying a single word to him.
When he was young, even if his homework was excellent, he received no praise. Both his father and mother would only tell him to get lost and stop annoying them.
Every second in that house felt like suffocation.
That was why Nan Xi found an opportunity to run away from home. Then, in that filthy little Internet cafe, he met Wen Ran.
Wen Ran was vivid, flamboyant, and the first person willing to talk to him and be kind to him. Wen Ran looked after his emotions and expressed concern.
He was like the only rose growing on Nan Xi’s barren land.
Later, when Nan Xi was found by his family, he learned his parents had divorced. Neither wanted him, leaving him only a large fortune and placing him under the care of his uncle.
His uncle treated him well enough but was usually busy. If Nan Xi had something important, he would help, but he didn’t interfere with his daily life.
Nan Xi felt like a stray cat, longing for a place to belong.
But his “Little Rose” would never reach out a hand to him.
Thinking of Wen Ran, Nan Xi’s racing heart finally calmed down.
He released the end of the cat teaser and picked up a jar of cat treats from the shelf. “I’m going to pay.”
Orange somewhat sheepishly pulled the teaser back, watching Nan Xi’s departing back.
Was he a little angry?
Orange didn’t notice that Nan Xi’s ears were red.
After returning to the base, the first priority was to get the kitten settled.
The kitten was still young, so Orange didn’t dare let it roam in a large space. He moved a simple cat bed into his room first.
It would stay with him for the first few days.
Later, he would slowly let it out to get familiar with the environment.
Orange watched Nan Xi as he placed the cat food and bowls down, giving him a smile. “Little Captain, if you want to see the kitten, you can just come find me.”
Nan Xi gave an “un” in response. Orange’s voice was soft and clear, sounding as pleasant as a breeze brushing against wind chimes.
He was probably just worried about the kitten, not because he wanted to see Orange, right?
Before Nan Xi could figure it out, he heard Orange say, “Oh right, it doesn’t have a name yet. How about you give it one?”
“Me?”
“Yeah,” Orange looked at him with a smile. “You were the one who saved the kitten from those people. Of course you should name it.”
Nan Xi thought for a moment and said, “How about Xiao Ju?”
“Xiao Ju… Little Orange. It fits a ginger cat.”
Orange immediately called out to the kitten a few times, “Xiao Ju, Xiao Ju, come to brother.”
Watching Orange play with the kitten, Nan Xi felt an immense sense of warmth.
He didn’t even notice the smile curling at the corners of his lips.
Little Orange and Xiao Ju—two little cuties.
