【Orange × Nan Xi】 : Is the Person You Like Wen Ran?
Orange didn’t even know how he got back to the base; he was still in a daze.
When his teammates saw him return, they casually asked where he had been last night. Orange made up a random excuse to brush them off.
He was feeling very low and really couldn’t bring himself to joke and chat with his teammates like usual.
Xiao Ju probably knew this was the “big brother” who brought him home, so he was very affectionate. Since he was still staying in Orange’s room, as soon as he saw Orange return, he immediately ran over and hugged his leg.
Orange picked up the kitten, held it in his arms, and rubbed its head. “Xiao Ju is so good.”
Much better than that Nan Xi.
Orange flipped through the sketchbook on his desk. Every page was filled with drawings of Nan Xi from various angles.
He didn’t know what he should do next to make Nan Xi like him over time.
Nan Xi was the second person he had met who was so stunning and likable, yet the guy had bluntly said he didn’t like him.
Actually, Orange didn’t believe him. Although Nan Xi said he’d do the same for any teammate—and Orange had been so angry he cried—on second thought, Nan Xi wasn’t even close to the other teammates. Orange had been in Ni Feng for almost two seasons now and had never seen him go out alone with other teammates, and they rarely queued together.
Orange wasn’t a fool; he knew deep down how Nan Xi treated him.
He just didn’t understand why the other person was rejecting him so hard.
The Grand Finals were coming up, so Orange indeed put his personal feelings aside for a few days. He was first and foremost a professional player; his priority was to get good results for his team.
Worried about affecting Nan Xi, he intentionally avoided contact with him. Aside from the necessary words during shot-calling in-game, they had almost no interaction.
Orange inevitably got distracted and was scolded a few times by the coach, so he was working hard to adjust his state.
Nan Xi, on the other hand, seemed completely unaffected, remaining the same as before.
The night of the Grand Finals was as lively as ever. Team WK and Team Ni Feng faced off. On one side were top players like Dawn and Wind, and on the other was the rising champion team. As Ni Feng’s main shot-caller who had once served in WK, many people were concerned about their performance tonight.
And about who the championship trophy would go to.
[Is that even a question? It’s definitely our WK. With God Yan presiding, do you think he’s joking?]
[There’s also Dawn—the top Mid-laner. I’ll say it boldly: there isn’t a single Mid-laner in the League right now who can match Dawn.]
[Even though these two from WK are strong, the support is a rookie. His performance this season hasn’t been very bright; he’s practically invisible.]
[Qi-ge is a sub because of an injury. The new solo-laner… emm… it’s a five-man team game. You can’t rely on just two people to save the world.]
[True. Ni Feng has a lot of momentum right now. In terms of overall team level, they are slightly stronger.]
[Besides, Nan Xi and Orange aren’t invisible either. They’re both top players in the League.]
[Nan Xi hubby, go for it!]
[Dawn, you rebellious son, make your mother proud!]
[People are actually still looking forward to this traitor? Speechless. I hope WK beats the crap out of him.]
[?? Are you okay? If not, you can drink some traditional medicine to regulate yourself.]
[Orange and the club were a mutual choice. Even the WK manager and teammates haven’t said anything, yet netizens are getting worked up.]
[WK team fan here. Orange shines on the stage no matter where he goes. Tonight, whoever wins wins by strength. Blessings to both.]
…
Amidst the expectations of thousands of viewers, the match officially began.
Since both sides were strong, the Grand Finals were exceptionally exhilarating. Everyone’s nerves were taut. They traded games back and forth, and the in-game situation was extremely deadlocked. Finally, it reached the “Peak Showdown” (Game 7).
However, this time they didn’t choose mirror heroes but picked according to their respective advantages.
Team Ni Feng used four bans on Jungler and Mid-lane to limit Wen Ran and Jiang Yan.
WK banned two supports, one jungler, and one ADC.
Orange was quite familiar with Wen Ran and Jiang Yan’s playstyles since they were former teammates. Similarly, Jiang Yan knew his line of thinking. Therefore, the first half of the match was almost even; once one side gained a slight advantage, it would be immediately pulled back.
In the second half, nerves were even tighter because a single mistake could lead to losing a team fight and the game.
Orange was highly focused, managing every detail of the team fights.
Finally, in a team fight that broke out at the Dragon Pit, Orange and Xing Chen cooperated to take down the enemy ADC first. After opening a gap, they secured a favorable position.
Before the respawn timers finished, they pushed down the enemy crystal.
“Congratulations to Team Ni Feng for winning this season’s championship!”
In the order of going up to hug their opponents, Orange was after Nan Xi.
Meeting Wen Ran on stage again, Nan Xi noticed he seemed much “softer” than before, his eyes filled with smiles. He was likely very happy being with Jiang Yan.
Nan Xi leaned down and gave Wen Ran a restrained, brief hug.
However, Wen Ran very domineeringly hooked his arm around Orange’s neck and hugged him.
Wen Ran leaned close to Orange’s ear and deliberately said in a fierce tone, “You’ve learned how to initiate on your ‘daddy’ now. Just you wait!”
Orange wouldn’t back down and turned his head to say, “Who told you to be so careless?”
From someone else’s perspective, their posture looked exceptionally intimate.
The director specifically cut the camera to them. Caster A said, “Dawn and Orange, old teammates meeting again. You can see their relationship is very good.”
“Yes,” Caster B said while looking at the screen, unable to resist. “Did Orange just kiss Dawn?”
In reality, he hadn’t kissed him. It was just that Orange’s head-turning motion, combined with Wen Ran’s height, made it look exactly like he had leaned down to kiss him.
“I knew they were close, but I didn’t expect it to be to this extent.”
“Wind is watching from behind. He won’t be jealous, will he?”
Since Wen Ran and Jiang Yan’s relationship was public, it was fine to mention it in the League.
Hearing these words, Nan Xi’s heart tightened fiercely.
As soon as he went offstage and returned to the lounge, he found the replay of that segment.
Nan Xi watched it five times repeatedly and still couldn’t be sure if they had kissed.
However, with every watch, the irritability in his heart increased by another notch.
He didn’t know if this emotion was jealousy.
The victory was well-deserved, and it was the championship, so a celebration banquet was a must.
Someone suggested playing Truth or Dare.
The rules were simple: they could use a mobile app. Everyone entered the room and started playing.
The person chosen had to answer a random question. If they chose not to answer, they had to drink.
Given the tragic experience of the group of “weaklings” drinking last time, they modified the rules to eating a lemon slice instead.
In the first round, Xing Chen was chosen.
The question was: Is your first kiss still there?
Xing Chen hated lemons the most, so he could only force himself to say, “Yes.”
“I couldn’t tell, Xing Chen. With your looks, you’re actually still single!”
“What’s wrong with my looks?”
The Mid-laner spoke up quietly: “The looks of a ‘scumbag’ player (playboy).”
Xing Chen: “……”
The Solo-laner added fuel to the fire, reporting to the coach, “Coach, look! The relationship between the dual-carries has shattered!”
The second person chosen was Nan Xi.
The random question was: “Do you have someone you like?”
Nan Xi hardly hesitated. “Yes.”
Everyone: “???”
The Mid-laner rubbed his ears. “Holy crap?”
This answer was clearly even more shocking than the last. Xing Chen was a somewhat self-centered “cool guy”; his initial fights with teammates were because he hadn’t fully integrated into the group. After Orange’s talks and remodeling, Xing Chen had adapted to team play and naturally spoke more. But a cool guy like Nan Xi was cold from the inside out.
He had always maintained a normal but not overly close relationship with his teammates. He only seemed slightly more familiar with Orange. He didn’t like to talk and seemed uninterested in anything.
Yet he just said he had someone he liked?!
Orange froze when he heard this.
Since Nan Xi said he had someone he liked, Orange naturally wanted to think it was him. Could it be that he had finally realized his feelings for him?
But just a few days before the match, he had rejected Orange.
Could it be that he liked someone else?
While Orange was overthinking, the Solo-laner asked naively, “Who is it?”
Nan Xi didn’t answer but said coldly, “That’s another question.”
“Oh.”
“But our team is really interesting. Xing Chen has the face of a playboy but has never dated. The Captain looks like he’s cut off all worldly desires, yet he has someone he likes.”
“Come on, let’s continue!”
In the following rounds, Nan Xi wasn’t chosen again.
So, the question of “who the Captain likes” remained unanswered.
Nan Xi didn’t expect that Orange would follow him into the restroom.
Orange seemed to have done a lot of mental preparation before gathering the courage to say:
“Jian Yu, is the person you said you liked today… me?”
Nan Xi was stunned by the question.
“What are you talking about?”
Orange didn’t heed Nan Xi’s words but continued softly, “Jian Yu, we’re both adults, and I’m older than you. I know deep down how you feel about me.
“I don’t know why you’re pushing me away when you clearly have feelings for me too.
“If there’s a difficulty, we can face it together.” Orange stepped forward and grabbed his hand. “As long as you like me, even if it’s just a little bit, I’m willing.
“Little Captain, do you want to date me?
“Believe me, I’ll be a good boyfriend.”
Orange waited expectantly for the answer. He had gone this far today, throwing so many “straight balls” (direct advances). Even a stone should have softened by now, right?
But Nan Xi froze for a moment and then shook off his hand.
In that instant, the image of Orange and Wen Ran hugging intimately and “kissing” tonight flashed in his mind.
He couldn’t even distinguish if he was jealous of Orange kissing someone else or angry that Wen Ran was being kissed by someone else.
“An Chenxia, are you done!” Nan Xi looked directly at the stunned Orange and said coldly, “The person I like isn’t you. Stop ‘brain-supplementing’ things (stop imagining things in your head).”
Boom.
Orange felt as if his mind had turned into a tangled mess. It felt like all the energy had been drained from his body.
A tear slipped down silently.
Is it truly… not even a little bit of liking?
Translator’s Note: The term “Brain-supplementing” (腦補 – Nao Bu) is Chinese Internet slang meaning to fill in the gaps with your own imagination, often creating a fantasy or scenario in your head that isn’t true. It’s quite a cold thing to say to someone who is confessing. Nan Xi is really struggling with his feelings for Wen Ran versus what he’s starting to feel for Orange, but he’s choosing the path of most resistance!
