Chapter 29: His Rabbit Tail Grass Could Not Be Kept Either
“I won’t! I’m not going!”
Shen Yuan shook his head vigorously, his face full of resistance. He then threw off Su Huaiyao’s hand that was resting on him.
Su Huaiyao clenched his fists. Looking at the other’s uncooperative appearance, the malice in his eyes grew even more intense.
A lowly thing actually has such a violent temper?
It seems he really was spoiled by Yu Xiuqing these past two years!
Thinking of his man being gentle and considerate to someone else, granting every request, the fire of jealousy in his heart couldn’t help but burn. He wished he could tear Shen Yuan to pieces right now!
“What right does a servant like you have to say ‘no’?!”
Seeing the future Yu Furen being pushed, Uncle Wu shouted at him in rage. This low shout made the youth’s entire body shiver, and even Su Huaiyao couldn’t help but shrink his neck.
“Apologies! Su Xiansheng, I scared you, didn’t I?”
Uncle Wu realized he had spoken too loudly and hurriedly apologized to the youth of noble status with a fawning expression.
Su Huaiyao smiled slightly: “It’s fine.”
It seemed the servants of the Yu family also loathed Shen Yuan to the extreme.
After all, some people were prone to jealousy.
Who could stand to see a piece of merchandise bought at an auction being pampered by the powerful Yu Sanye?
He snorted coldly in his heart, secretly gloating that Shen Yuan’s future days would be even less comfortable.
“Su Xiansheng, please wait a moment. I’ll make this fool go weed for you and plant those bright roses!”
Uncle Wu bowed to Su Huaiyao, his face covered in wrinkles piled with smiles. Immediately after, he walked to the youth’s side, grabbed his shoulder, and pointed at his nose, saying:
“Move! This was ordered by Yu Shao before he left! You still dare not listen? Believe it or not, Yu Shao will come back and kick a useless thing like you out! He’ll let you freeze to death on the street!”
Since Yu Xiuqing wasn’t in the manor today, his tone was even more fierce than usual, his loathing undisguised.
Shen Yuan felt as if his arm was about to be crushed. The pain was unbearable, and tears blurred his eyes once again.
He looked at this old man who was full of wrinkles yet still ferocious. His eyes flickered with tears, his appearance piteous and aggrieved, longing for the other to let him go.
But the old man was completely unmoved. He grabbed his arm and dragged him outside with all his might, shouting as spit flew:
“What are you pretending to be piteous for?! Disgusting!”
Uncle Wu was only polite and respectful in front of Yu Xiuqing; toward everyone else, he was arrogant and unreasonable.
Shen Yuan took advantage of his lack of attention to suddenly break free. Clutching his aching shoulder, he staggered back several steps.
Uncle Wu was displeased at this and raised a foot to kick him: “You damn well try moving back again! See if I don’t kick you to death!”
The youth’s chest took a solid kick unexpectedly. He let out a muffled groan and fell to the floor, looking at that crude and rude old man with tearful eyes.
Uncle Wu was quite unhappy at being stared at like this. To him, Shen Yuan’s current appearance was pure acting!
Without a word, he forcefully yanked up the small person on the floor. Without giving the other any chance to breathe, he dragged him out of the house.
The sound of the youth’s tearful pleading and Uncle Wu’s cursing rang out across the entire lawn.
This butler had at least restrained himself a bit earlier while Su Huaiyao was present. But seeing the other being “aggrieved” by Shen Yuan, he completely let himself go, having a reason to abuse Shen Yuan.
Meanwhile, Su Huaiyao followed slowly behind on his crutch, the expression on his face triumphant.
“Remove all those wretched weeds!”
The angry roar of Uncle Wu’s command sounded in his ear. Before Shen Yuan could even find his footing, his back was pushed forward with force by a large hand. His entire person fell squarely onto the rabbit tail grass.
The skin on his knees and palms was scraped open, and blood flowed from between his fingers, staining the rabbit tail grass beneath him.
Shen Yuan bit his lip to endure the pain, but the broken grass stems still poked into his flesh—a bone-deep, heart-piercing pain.
He had cried until he had no more tears. He arched his body, only instinctively wanting to climb up, when a foot suddenly landed heavily on his back, forcing him to kneel back in his original place.
The fuzzy rabbit tail grass rubbed against his cheek and poked into his eyes. Shen Yuan felt a dampness at the corners of his eyes.
Uncle Wu’s eyes were full of ferocity. He looked down at the youth and urged: “Hurry up and remove the grass!”
Su Huaiyao appreciated the sight of the battered person in the grass. He was in a good mood, yet he still feigned worry: “Uncle Wu, you’re too fierce. What if you kick him to death?”
The look of ferocity on Uncle Wu’s face turned into kindness when he turned to face the youth: “Su Xiansheng, don’t worry. This stupid thing has a tough life. A few kicks won’t kill him.”
Hearing these words, Shen Yuan only felt a sense of numbness that he had long grown accustomed to; there was nothing else.
He knew that every single person here hated him, bullied him, and wished for him to die.
Before, he had Mister Yu to protect and dote on him. Even if the people of the manor were jealous, they didn’t dare do anything to him.
But now that he had lost the man’s protective umbrella, he could only become a toy for everyone to vent their emotions on…
Shen Yuan was very sad. Tears fell patter-patter onto the rabbit tail grass. He sniffled, swallowing his sobs.
Now that he didn’t have Xiansheng’s protection, he had to be strong!
Since the people here didn’t like him, he would leave. He’d run far, far away and never come back!
In any case, with Su Huaiyao there to play lullabies for Mister Yu, that man didn’t need him anymore…
Thinking this, Shen Yuan secretly made up his mind.
He lifted his sleeve and forcefully wiped away the teardrops spilling from his eyes, chewing up all his grievances and swallowing them into his stomach.
With a trembling small hand, he grabbed the weeding shears. He looked down at the cold tool in his palm, his throat tightening slightly. Then he slowly lifted his eyes and gazed at that patch of green rabbit tail grass.
Memories as sweet as candied fruit only left a mouthful of bitterness when recalled. The little fool didn’t understand why something that was once so beautiful had now become so cruel…
He only knew the Xiansheng who loved him was gone, and there was no need for him to stay in the manor anymore.
The warm afternoon sunlight spilled over those clusters of round rabbit tail grass, emitting a faint golden light.
Shen Yuan crouched down, both hands carefully cradling several bobbing rabbit tail grass heads. He felt the tingling, soft sensation as the grass rubbed against his palm.
He was very reluctant to pull his beloved things out by the roots, but the fierce butler behind him grew impatient:
“Pull them out already! Do I need to teach you?!”
As he spoke, Uncle Wu had already walked to his side. He raised a hand and shoved his head hard, his expression distorted.
Shen Yuan was easily knocked onto his bottom by this shove. His thin clothes were stained by the blood in his palms. The wind brushed past his hair; his entire person looked fragile and broken.
Uncle Wu was deliberately making things difficult for him.
He knew that he could only be obedient right now; otherwise, he would face even more cruel punishments.
The little fool gripped the weeding shears tightly but didn’t dare resist. He could only endure his reluctance, thrusting them into the soil. Then, with a forceful pry, that stalk of rabbit tail grass was pulled out by the roots.
With every stalk pulled out, his heart would throb with pain.
He piled the uprooted rabbit tail grass together neatly. He would take them out of the manor and plant them again.
Seeing how much the youth cherished the rabbit tail grass, Su Huaiyao couldn’t help but start imagining Yu Xiuqing—a person of noble status—crouching here and carefully planting them for this fool…
In an instant, he became furious, his teeth grinding with a creak-creak sound. Taking advantage of the butler turning around to unpack the rose bouquets, he immediately walked over and kicked the pile of rabbit tail grass away!
Just then, a gust of wind blew, and the round little rabbit tails were blown into a scattered frenzy in the next second.
Shen Yuan’s face turned deathly pale. He watched helplessly as the rabbit tail grass flew all over the sky, and crystal-clear tears welled up in his eyes.
He reached out tremblingly, but he couldn’t catch a thing. He could only let the little grass float away from his palm…
The culprit, Su Huaiyao, however, put on an extremely innocent expression, blinking his eyes provocatively.
Next, he stepped heavily on a soft and fragile flower head, ruthlessly crushing and flattening the stem.
Shen Yuan stared blankly at the crushed rabbit tail grass. He blinked his eyelashes and lowered his eyes. Finally, his tears fell uncontrollably, shattering upon impact.
Su Huaiyao’s sarcastic laugh came from above: “Aiyah, apologies~ I accidentally crushed… them~”
As he spoke, the rabbit tail grass beside them that hadn’t been dug up yet was swaying in the wind one second, and in the next, it was stepped on ruthlessly by Su Huaiyao’s sole, crushed to a pulp.
Shen Yuan forced himself to retract his gaze. He stopped looking at those piteous little rabbit grasses and stopped listening to that bad person’s provocative words, instead continuing to dig up the roots.
He silently hid all his sadness and grievances in the depths of his heart, but his tears still fell into the soil incessantly.
An hour later.
The large patch of once-lush green rabbit tails was now left with only bare soil and tattered stalks.
Shen Yuan was so tired he collapsed onto the floor, the weeding shears rolling aside. He was covered in sweat.
Su Huaiyao sat beneath a parasol, drinking milk tea with his legs crossed, looking like he was enjoying himself.
Seeing that the fool had more or less cleared the space, he stood up straight. Feigning a limp, he clapped his hands leisurely, his expression appearing very satisfied.
Seeing the person walking toward him from behind, Shen Yuan feared the other would torture him again. He immediately stood up and shrank to the side.
Su Huaiyao glanced at him with disgust and snorted coldly. He then walked excitedly to that bare patch of ground:
“Great! Finally, I can plant the roses Xiuqing-gege bought for me! Roses are better; what right do disgusting weeds have to be planted in Xiuqing-gege’s grand garden?”
When he spoke the last sentence, he deliberately turned his head to glare at the soot-covered youth. The other shivered all over from the glare, like a startled young deer.
Su Huaiyao loathed his piteous appearance, whispering a curse: “Lowly thing.”
Shen Yuan lowered his head and bit his lip. His fingernails picked at the dried blood clots on the back of his hand. His two bare feet were resting on the marble floor, curled together from the cold.
Uncle Wu was currently planting the roses not far away, and Su Huaiyao was also giving soft-voiced instructions from the side.
Shen Yuan looked around with a pounding heart. Finding that no one was paying attention to his side, he quietly moved backward. His heart was instantly in his throat.
Successfully retreating behind several trees, he didn’t even think. He directly ran toward the gate barefoot, his feet treading on the messy, hard pebbles. A layer of bloodstains was rubbed into his white, tender soles.
Yet Shen Yuan didn’t dare pause for a moment. He could only endure the pain and run toward the gate with all his might.
He had to leave this place!
