Chapter 72: Why Are You Stopping Me From Watching the Surveillance Video?
“Get lost!”
Meng Nanyi forcefully shoved away Qi Yunzhao, who was about to continue hitting. Looking at the bloodied man on the floor, his usually spoiled and arrogant heart suddenly felt an agonizing ache.
“Who gave you permission to hit him!”
He screamed at the people in the room, tears streaming uncontrollably down his rosy cheeks.
Seeing such a pampered young master of a wealthy family actually squatting on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably over a poor boy, Yu Xiuqing found it quite novel. He walked over slowly and asked: “Young Master Meng cares for him so much; who is he to you?”
Meng Nanyi looked up at the man with tearful eyes, saying angrily: “He’s my boyfriend!”
If it weren’t for his father’s interference, forcing him to sneak out, he wouldn’t be here without a single bodyguard!
Facing a crowd like this, and with the other party being the powerful Yu Sanye of Nangang, he undeniably lacked confidence.
“Boyfriend?”
Yu Xiuqing’s face carried a trace of disbelief, but it was mostly unconcealed contempt as he laughed:
“Heh, the dignified young master of the Meng Group, with impeccable roots, is actually with a beast in human clothing? If your father found out, how would he discipline you?”
The moment he heard the other mention his father, Meng Nanyi’s mind filled with his father’s strict demeanor. His initially righteous indignation suddenly faltered.
Swallowing nervously, he glared at the man threatening him, feigning bravado:
“W-what does that have to do with you?!”
Yu Xiuqing sneered. There was no expression on his harsh face. He looked at Zhou Xuyan as if looking at the lowest creature at his feet.
“It really has nothing to do with me, nor am I interested. But Zhou Xuyan touched my person. I’m afraid Young Master Meng won’t be able to take him out of this room today.”
The cold voice carried endless chill. Meng Nanyi felt his palms start to sweat.
Growing up, he had never faced such a situation alone. Although Yu Xiuqing wouldn’t do anything to him, he couldn’t protect Zhou Xuyan all by himself!
Seeing the breathing of the man on the floor grow weaker, Meng Nanyi’s eyes reddened. He was so anxious he was about to cry:
“Then quickly call a doctor to examine Zhou-gege! He’s lost so much blood!”
“Naive.”
Yu Xiuqing’s face was ice-cold, his eyes coated in thick disgust: “Do you think that’s possible? Not killing him immediately is already my greatest mercy.”
“Then you wait and see who you should be killing!”
Meng Nanyi suddenly shouted these cryptic words, his gaze sweeping across the faces of everyone in the room.
Trying his best to remain calm, he didn’t immediately reveal the twisted truth. Instead, he slowly helped Zhou Xuyan up from the floor, carefully leaning him against the wall.
Su Huaiyao, however, was somewhat panicked by those words.
He distinctly sensed the strong hostility and anger in the youth’s eyes when he looked at him.
Just as Qi Yunzhao was about to step forward to grab the person, Yu Xiuqing reached out and stopped him. With a playful tone, he said:
“No rush. Let’s first see how this young master of the Meng family defends his beastly boyfriend.”
Meanwhile, Meng Nanyi squatted down. Seeing his beloved battered and bruised for the sake of someone else, he felt both heartache and jealousy. A sob escaped his throat.
Taking out a tissue, he tremblingly raised his hand to gently wipe the blood from the corner of the man’s mouth.
Zhou Xuyan’s fingers twitched, trying to lift them, but he couldn’t muster any strength. He murmured weakly:
“Run…”
“Zhou-gege, wait for me.”
Meng Nanyi wrapped the tissue around his injured fingers. Then he stood up and walked toward the people behind him.
With ringing in his ears, Zhou Xuyan still managed to hear him clearly, but he didn’t know what he was going to do. Even though the other was always unreasonable, he couldn’t help but feel anxious.
He struggled to lift his arm, only to grab at empty air. His jaw ached terribly, making it impossible to speak.
Watching the youth walk toward him step by step, seeing that face even more delicate than Shen Yuan’s, a sudden, inexplicable urge to ravage welled up in Yu Xiuqing’s heart.
Suppressing his crazy, pathological emotions, he put his hands in his pockets and gently reminded:
“Young Master Meng, if you have no other business, please leave. Zhou Xuyan is not a good person. You don’t need to defend him and degrade your own status.”
Meng Nanyi stood before him, staring without blinking, his expression puffed up with anger, like an unconvinced child, carrying immense arrogance and dissatisfaction.
Yu Xiuqing raised an eyebrow slightly, a smile in his eyes, seemingly quite interested in the youth’s childish and cute appearance at the moment.
But unfortunately, the other’s status was too noble. Though beautiful, he lacked the specific appeal of his captive little plaything, insufficient to stir any real desire to possess him.
Su Huaiyao, standing to the side, did not share his interest. His just-stabilized emotions grew restless again because of Meng Nanyi’s cryptic words.
What did this person want to do?
He vaguely guessed something bad, but a sliver of luck and Yu Xiuqing’s trust barely comforted him.
Under the varied emotional gazes of the group, Meng Nanyi licked his cheek, then pulled his phone from his jacket. The angry expression on his face morphed into anticipation.
“Mr. Yu, I’m afraid things won’t go your way. I wonder if you’re interested in this video?”
He toyed with the phone, flashing a sweet smile, two dimples appearing at the corners of his mouth like they were filled with honey.
Yet his gaze was terrifyingly cold. Mixed with that innocent smile, there was an almost naive cruelty. Truly a two-faced little demon.
“What video?”
Yu Xiuqing’s interest evaporated, replaced by bone-chilling coldness and vigilance.
The youth’s subtle emotional shifts made him deeply uncomfortable, as if something inexplicable was being firmly grasped by someone else, only to come back and bite him.
Su Huaiyao wasn’t doing much better. He was filled with tension and fear, his fingers clenched so tightly that his nails dug into his flesh, yet he didn’t feel the slightest pain.
“Of course it’s…”
Dragging out his words deliberately, Meng Nanyi glanced at the pale Su Huaiyao, a provocative smile playing on his lips. This feeling of keeping people in suspense was truly excellent.
Looking down, he found the video and held it up to Yu Xiuqing, his eyes shining brightly. “Click it yourself, and you’ll see something you never expected.”
Yu Xiuqing looked at the surveillance footage on the screen. His eyes darkened, and he took his hand out of his pocket.
Just as he was about to press the play button, Su Huaiyao reacted swiftly, immediately grabbing the man’s wrist.
Yu Xiuqing was startled. Looking at the panic-stricken person, he asked in confusion: “Xiaoyao, what’s wrong?”
“I, I…”
Su Huaiyao felt like his heart was about to leap out of his throat. He quickly glanced at the video on the phone, becoming even more panicked, yet he forced himself to act calm:
“Xiuqing-gege, I suddenly feel unwell. Can you take me home? Going back alone might not be safe. There are too many paparazzi outside…”
The man grew slightly impatient. Showing no concern, he simply offered a perfunctory reply: “I’ll have Qi Yunzhao take you back.”
“No!”
Su Huaiyao’s voice spiked. But quickly realizing he was too agitated, he frantically feigned a sickly appearance, saying weakly:
“I mean, I want Xiuqing-gege by my side. That’s the only way I’ll feel safe…”
Yu Xiuqing frowned. Seeing his tottering appearance, he couldn’t bear to refuse, so he ordered his bodyguard: “Keep an eye on Shen Yuan. I’m taking Xiaoyao back.”
“Yes, sir.”
Qi Yunzhao nodded respectfully.
“Xiuqing-gege, let’s go quickly.”
Su Huaiyao linked arms with the man, hurriedly pulling him toward the door. His back was already sweating from guilt.
Why did this young master of the Meng family have to pull up the surveillance video of him torturing Shen Yuan in the hospital room?!
How had he offended Meng Nanyi!
But right now, escaping this place of trouble was the top priority. Everything else could wait.
Yu Xiuqing seemed surprised by his abnormal behavior. Frowning, he couldn’t help but wonder why the person who supposedly had a headache looked so incredibly tense.
Before the two could take a single step, Meng Nanyi ran straight over to block the door. Scanning Su Huaiyao with disgust, he clicked his tongue repeatedly. Looking at this outwardly glamorous, yet secretly filthy pianist, he only felt nauseous:
“Yo, yo, yo, don’t be in such a hurry to leave. Is someone feeling guilty? Wrongly accusing others and not letting them speak out?”
“What do you mean?”
Yu Xiuqing clearly also noticed his disgust toward his beloved, finding it baffling.
“Meng Nanyi, this isn’t your Meng family where you can act wildly. And don’t think that just because Xiaoyao is kind, you can brazenly insult him! Do you have no respect for me?”
He scowled at the youth before him.
“Give it a rest. ‘Kind’? A total two-faced white lotus! And you aren’t any good either!”
Meng Nanyi retorted mercilessly, not forgetting to shoot a disdainful look at the person behind the man.
Furious, Su Huaiyao gritted his teeth and glared at him. His long, narrow almond eyes revealed a thick warning.
But Meng Nanyi completely ignored the warning in his eyes. He played the surveillance video on his phone, shoved it directly in front of Yu Xiuqing, and pointed at the people on the screen:
“Yu Xiuqing, see for yourself! See what ‘good deeds’ your kind-hearted Xiaoyao has been doing behind your back!”
Yu Xiuqing froze slightly, looking at Shen Yuan’s hospital room on the screen. Then, the door opened, and a foot stepped in. But before the person even appeared on screen, Su Huaiyao became so terrified he reached out to snatch the phone.
Meng Nanyi quickly pulled back. The other grabbed empty air and nearly fell over.
“See? If that isn’t a guilty conscience, what is?”
Meng Nanyi sneered mockingly.
Su Huaiyao was so embarrassed he wanted the ground to swallow him. He instinctively turned to look at Yu Xiuqing, trying to explain.
“Xiaoyao, why have you repeatedly stopped me from watching the surveillance video? Is there really something there?”
Yu Xiuqing’s expression changed. He stared sharply at the utterly panicked young man before him.
“I…”
Stared at so intensely, Su Huaiyao felt his skin crawl, and he involuntarily took half a step back.
