Chapter 8: Kill That Gold-Digging Scammer 8
Shen Wu sent a message to Zhou Geng, telling him he was eating out and would be back a little late tonight.
Soon, Zhou Geng called, “Wuwu… are you eating out with your colleagues?”
Zhou Geng’s voice carried a trace of worry. This was Shen Wu’s first time traveling far for work, and he was worried Shen Wu would be scammed.
Shen Wu quietly glanced at Wang Yan, who was driving, and decisively lied. “Yes.”
“Where are you eating? Do you need me to pick you up?”
Shen Wu: …
Walk over to pick me up?
“No need, Brother Zhou, it’s just near the company. I’ll take the bus back after I finish eating.”
“Alright then, call me if anything happens.”
“Mm, okay.”
…
After hanging up, Wang Yan raised an eyebrow. “Your brother checking up on you?”
Shen Wu gave an “Mm”.
“Didn’t you say you were from City A? Biological brother?” Wang Yan asked again.
“No, he’s the older brother from my neighbor’s family. He found me this job.”
Actually, Zhou Geng and Shen Wu couldn’t really be considered neighbors; they were just from the same hometown. After all, whose neighbors are a half-hour walk away?
Wang Yan gave a slight nod. She glanced at Shen Wu’s phone and then slowly withdrew her gaze.
Along the way, the two chatted casually; most of the time it was Wang Yan asking and Shen Wu answering.
Fortunately, it only took about ten minutes to reach their destination.
After parking the car, Wang Yan led Shen Wu into a Chinese restaurant.
…
The two sat face-to-face in a private room. Wang Yan picked up the teacup in front of her, took a sip, and then spoke, “Shen Wu, do you know why I treated you to a meal today?”
Shen Wu naturally had his guesses, but it was impossible for him to say them out loud. Feigning an honest expression, he shook his head, “I don’t know.”
Wang Yan set down her teacup. Leaning gently against the back of her chair, she asked, “Do you want to skip thirty years of struggling?”
Shen Wu: …
As expected, exactly what I thought.
“Sister Yan, what do you mean by this?”
Wang Yan knew Shen Wu was a poor kid from the mountains, so naturally, she believed he truly didn’t understand her meaning. After all, he really looked quite honest. No longer beating around the bush with Shen Wu, she got straight to the point.
“I’ve taken a fancy to you. I want to keep you.”
Shen Wu sighed with pity in his heart. If only there were such a young, beautiful, and wealthy lady willing to keep him in the real world, how great that would be! What a pity, he had to complete his mission to earn that one hundred billion.
“Sister Yan, stop joking around. How can a man like me be kept…”
Looking at Shen Wu’s embarrassed expression, Wang Yan chuckled lightly. “I’m not joking. Twenty thousand a month, and I’ll cover all your food and lodging. How about it?”
As a person, Wang Yan was rich but indeed quite stingy. However, the conditions she offered Shen Wu were quite good. After all, given Shen Wu’s current capabilities, fresh out of the mountains, earning four to five thousand a month would be hitting the ceiling.
Shen Wu “wowed” in his heart, marveling at Wang Yan’s generosity. Heaven knew that when he wrote novels before, his monthly royalties were only two or three thousand—it was simply a tragedy that would make listeners sad and viewers weep.
“Sister Yan, it’s not a matter of money. I just can’t accept being kept by someone else. I’m a proper person.”
The smile on Wang Yan’s lips deepened. “Who says being kept means you’re not a proper person? I’m not married. Although I had a relationship before, we broke up after just over a month… I’m a non-marriage advocate. Stay with me for two years, and when I get tired of you, I’ll gift you a house in Jing City’s Third Ring Road. How about it?”
After saying that, Wang Yan added, “You don’t need to worry about me painting you a pie in the sky; we can sign a contract.”
Shen Wu was silent for a moment before shaking his head anyway. “Sister Yan, you’re so beautiful and rich; what kind of man can’t you find? I can’t do it…”
Wang Yan’s brow furrowed slightly. “Do you not know the value of that house? The current market price is estimated to be five or six million. Shen Wu, I’m not trying to put you down, but this house is probably enough for you to earn for a lifetime.”
Shen Wu lamented in his heart. With his monthly salary of two or three thousand, he wouldn’t earn six million in a lifetime!!!
What a pity…
Seeing Shen Wu refuse again, Wang Yan wasn’t angry; instead, she found him even more interesting. Not bending his back for money—this spirit was too precious.
Her fingertips idly stroked the wall of her cup. After a long while, she suddenly spoke, “If you want to date, that’s not impossible either…”
Shen Wu: …
Why is she even relaxing her bottom line for me?
He sat up straight, hesitated for two seconds before speaking, “Sister Yan, I’m only 21. I don’t want to date right now.”
Wang Yan raised an eyebrow. “21 is precisely the best time to date. Once a man passes 24, he won’t have a market anymore.”
Shen Wu: …
Seeing Shen Wu’s bewildered face, Wang Yan flipped her hair. “Seeing how innocent you are, do you want to learn a few tricks in bed with me?”
Shen Wu: !
Such a bold and uninhibited wealthy lady!
Suddenly, there was a knock on the private room door, and the waiter began serving the dishes.
With the topic abruptly interrupted, neither of them brought it up again.
Wang Yan smiled and beckoned to Shen Wu, “Taste how the food here is. If you like it, I’ll bring you here again next time.” After speaking, she placed a piece of braised pork ribs onto Shen Wu’s plate.
Shen Wu: …
There won’t be a next time.
“Thank you, Sister Yan.”
Wang Yan looked at Shen Wu, understanding for the first time what “beautiful enough to feast upon” meant. Just looking at this face, she could eat two more bowls of rice.
“Don’t be polite, eat more.”
…
At the dinner table, Wang Yan didn’t speak much anymore; she ate very quietly.
Shen Wu ate this meal with considerable satisfaction. The taste was indeed very good. He had the illusion that he was about to live a good life after transmigrating.
After finishing the meal, Wang Yan looked at Shen Wu again, her gaze somewhat ambiguous. “There’s a hotel next door. Want to go rest for a while?”
Wanting me to hand over the ‘public grain’ right after treating me to one meal?
Shen Wu silently sat up straight. “Sister Yan, I have to go back. That is, I really can’t…”
Wang Yan’s gaze fell obscurely on Shen Wu’s crotch for a moment. “You can’t?”
Shen Wu: …
This is a matter of a man’s dignity!
“No, I mean, I don’t do one-night stands.”
Wang Yan couldn’t help but be amused by him. It was truly her first time meeting someone so honest. Her impression of Shen Wu improved even more.
“Then let’s date?”
Going round and round, they were back to the initial topic.
“I don’t want to date.”
Wang Yan took out a cigarette and lit it. It was a slim ladies’ cigarette. Her red lips gently held the filter, and her posture while smoking looked infinitely charming.
She slowly exhaled the smoke before speaking. “Shen Wu, I won’t force you. I’ll give you time to think about it. If you figure it out, call me?”
Although Wang Yan was very satisfied with Shen Wu, in this regard, it was best if both parties were willing.
Shen Wu breathed a sigh of relief and replied perfunctorily, “Okay, Sister Yan.”
After taking two more puffs, Wang Yan crushed the cigarette in the ashtray and stood up. “Let’s go, I’ll take you back.”
“Just drop me off at the bus stop under the company building.” Shen Wu stood up and followed her. The main issue was that he didn’t know how to take the bus from here, and he couldn’t bear to spend money on a taxi.
Wang Yan chuckled lightly. “I’ll take you home.”
Translator’s Note: A few fun terms from this chapter: “包養” (baoyang) refers to being kept or having a sugar daddy/mama. “畫大餅” (painting a pie) means making empty promises. And my favorite, “交公糧” (handing over the public grain), is a hilarious slang term for fulfilling one’s bedroom duties to their partner! See you in the next chapter!
