Chapter 59: Baby
“I couldn’t tell, but your experience seems quite rich.”
The voice came from behind. Ye Ran whipped his head around. He hadn’t realized Chi Yuheng had returned.
Is this man a ghost?
There wasn’t a single sound from the door opening to him coming in.
Ye Ran was clearly startled. First, he patted his racing heart, then he turned and glared at Chi Yuheng. “Chi Yuheng, when are you going to fix your habit of scaring people from behind?”
Since he was little, whenever he tried to pull a prank, Chi Yuheng would always end up behind him. This resulted in him never succeeding once.
Except for throwing away the love letters Chi Yuheng received.
Chi Yuhengâs tone was faint. “I wasn’t scaring you. You two were so engrossed in your conversation that you didn’t even notice me coming in.”
Ye Ran wanted to continue arguing with him, but Chi Yuheng turned his gaze to Chi Youchu.
His brow was cold, expressionless, carrying a sense of looking down with scrutiny.
A single look made Chi Youchuâs scalp tingle. He stood up as if there were a spring on his backside.
Such powerful bloodline suppression.
Ye Ran also shut his mouth, not daring to make a sound.
It was better for him to be quiet at this time to avoid “collateral damage.”
“You’ve forgotten everything I said before I left, haven’t you?” Chi Yuhengâs words were very light, but they carried a chill that penetrated to the bone.
Chi Youchu immediately ran back to his spot against the wall, defending himself in a small voice, “Brother, I didn’t forget, it’s just…”
Before he could finish, he was choked back by Chi Yuheng. “If you don’t want to stand in the room, go to the balcony.”
Chi Youchu obediently shut his mouth.
Although it was the same whether he was on the balcony or in the hallwayâsince no one would come by here anywayâthe psychological effect made him feel it would be humiliating to go outside. Chi Youchu wouldn’t go to the balcony even if it killed him.
In truth, Chi Yuheng made Chi Youchu stand as punishment partly because he didn’t know his limits with alcohol and drank himself into oblivion with Pei Si. On the other hand, it was because of this that he and Ye Ranâs room were forced to take in an extra person.
In short, CEO Chiâs resentment was quite large.
Ye Ran didn’t know why Chi Yuhengâs temper was so flared, but he felt deep sympathy for the poor little Chi Youchu.
After giving Chi Youchu a sympathetic look, Ye Ran turned his head, only to see Chi Yuheng looking at him.
Ye Ran felt a bit restless. He swallowed with difficulty. “You… you’ve already scolded him, so you can’t scold me too, okay…”
Chi Yuheng felt a bit like laughing upon hearing this. He hadn’t intended to scold him at all.
“The stitches haven’t been removed from your foot yet. Don’t go running around everywhere.”
Hearing Chi Yuhengâs tone, it was clearly different from the one he used with Chi Youchu just nowâit was much softer.
Danger averted.
Ye Ranâs tone also became more natural. “I just went to the bathroom.”
He rubbed his stomach. “Chi Yuheng, I’m hungry.”
He had been too engrossed in recounting last night’s events with Chi Youchu and had forgotten he was hungry. Now that his mind was relaxed and he saw Chi Yuheng, the hunger instantly revived.
Chi Yuheng knew Ye Ran would cry hunger when he woke up. Although he didn’t know when he would wake up, he had still gone out to find food for him.
The corners of Chi Yuhengâs mouth hooked up, his eyes full of doting. “If you’re hungry, come and eat.”
Ye Ran saw Chi Yuheng walk toward the dining table, where a large food container had been placed.
Chi Yuheng opened the container and took out one dish after another. Looking at the dishes he brought out, Ye Ranâs eyes were as bright as the stars in the sky.
Unlike Chi Youchu, Ye Ran wasn’t scared; he was completely excited as he jumped up from the sofa.
Extreme joy leads to sorrow. He forgot he still had a wound on his foot. He didn’t land steadily, his foot twisted, and he fell back onto the sofa.
When Chi Yuheng finished taking out the food and turned around, what he saw was Ye Ran lying on the sofa, baring his teeth in pain.
He let out a light sigh. One really couldn’t leave Ye Ranâs side for even a moment.
He had no choice but to personally go over and carry a certain someone from the sofa to the chair, saying, “You never give me peace of mind.”
Ye Ran was completely attracted by the food and, for once, didn’t argue with him.
“It’s not mealtime right now. The hotel restaurant isn’t serving, and there are no restaurants on the island. Where did you get so many dishes?” Ye Ran asked curiously.
He couldn’t have had someone transport them from off the island, could he?
Seeing a certain someone poking his head out and staring at him as if trying to find the answer on his face…
Chi Yuheng reached out and rubbed his head. “Why is your curiosity so heavy? You’re really a curious baby.”
“Baby?” Ye Ran blinked his large eyes, repeating the last word Chi Yuheng said.
Once he reacted, he was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. He turned his head to the side. “You’re the baby.”
Chi Youchu poked his head out from the corner to look over.
He was being punished with standing over there, while those two were calling each other “baby” over here.
These two…
AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
Chi Youchu was about to explode internally. Did his brother have to be this obvious with his double standards?
Chi Yuheng handed Ye Ran a pair of chopsticks. “Although there are no restaurants on the island, getting food is very simple.”
“Who did you say owns this hotel?”
This question wasn’t hard at all. Ye Ran said, “The bosses are you and Xu Zhaoli.”
Chi Yuheng gave an “En.” “Even though it’s not mealtime, as the boss, it’s possible to have the chef prepare a separate meal.”
Ye Ran had a sudden realization. “Increasing the employees’ workload during their break time. You really are an evil capitalist.”
Chi Yuheng: “…”
And who was that for?
A trace of a smile appeared at the corners of Chi Yuhengâs mouth. “I gave them a raise.”
Indeed, money makes the world go ’round, and a raise makes a chef work overtime.
Ye Ran watched Chi Yuheng quietly for a while before saying, “Does your company need more people? I’m recommending myself as an intern.”
In Jing City, who wouldn’t squeeze their way into Chengyi Group? Even an intern’s salary was higher than that of other companies. CEO Chi was always generous.
Although Ye Ran was only a sophomore, he would graduate eventually. He couldn’t rely on Chi Yuheng forever, and Chi Yuheng couldn’t support him for a lifetime.
Getting on the boss’s good side a few years in advance and securing a job early meant he could work at a big company upon graduation and struggle for a few years less than others.
Ye Ran was still thinking of a way to pitch his clever idea when Chi Yuheng said, “If you come to work at the company, I’m afraid I won’t be able to work properly.”
Ye Ran didn’t understand.
What kind of trouble could he cause while working under Chi Yuhengâs nose?
“You’re the boss. Can a small employee like me affect you?”
Chi Yuhengâs gaze locked onto Ye Ranâs lips. He wanted to speak, but they weren’t the only two people in the room, so the words were swallowed back down.
He waved to the person still standing in the corner. “Come and eat.”
Chi Youchu pointed his index finger at himself. “Are you calling me?”
Ye Ran: “…”
“Are you stupid? Heâs calling you. Hurry up and come over.”
His ban lifted, Chi Youchu forgot how he had been grumbling about them in his heart and ran over joyfully. “Coming!”
