Chapter 93: Dating
As Ye Ran’s voice fell, a draft from the hallway vents happened to swirl through his hair, lightly scattering the traces of mischief in his tone across the long corridor of the office area.
Xin Yu consciously retreated to the assistants’ office area. Before leaving, he closed the door leading to the CEO’s office, completely sealing off the somewhat cluttered workspace from this side.
What was originally an open area had now become a private space for the two of them.
Ye Ran was a bit nervous, waiting to hear Chi Yuheng’s response.
Chi Yuheng’s footsteps paused for a fraction of a second before he continued leading him toward the office, letting out a soft “Mm.”
Ye Ran was momentarily dazed; he surely hadn’t misheard.
Chi Yuheng had just said one single word to him: “Mm.”
That’s it?
He had said such a long sentence, and the man only replied with one word?
Furthermore, he had just declared that Chi Yuheng was his boyfriend—was this all the reaction he got?
Ye Ran’s eyebrows knitted together as he raised his voice. “Chi Yuheng! I just said you are my boyfriend now!”
Before his voice could fade, Chi Yuheng reached out and grabbed his wrist, leading him straight into the office.
With a backhand “click,” the lock fell into place.
He pinned Ye Ran against the wall, his tall silhouette completely enveloping him.
Ye Ran’s back was pressed against the cold wall, yet he felt his body temperature surging upward.
He subconsciously tilted his head up, crashing into Chi Yuheng’s bottomless ink-colored eyes.
Those eyes, which usually held a sense of detachment from others, now seemed to hold crushed starlight, churning with a palpitation Ye Ran had never seen before. Even his breathing was slightly heavier than usual.
A warm breath brushed against his cheek. Chi Yuheng’s voice was lower and raspier than usual, like a layer of sandpaper lightly grazing Ye Ran’s eardrums.
“Say what you just said one more time.”
Ye Ran’s heart began to race. He had already said it twice; now he wanted him to say it a third time?
Trapped like this, he didn’t seem to have a second choice.
“I said you are my boyfriend.”
As soon as he spoke, Chi Yuheng leaned in even closer. The distance between them was so small they could clearly see their own reflections in each other’s eyes.
His Adam’s apple rolled gently. He finally stopped suppressing the palpitations in his heart, his voice carrying a burning earnestness. “Your boyfriend heard you.”
The heat in Chi Yuheng’s gaze was almost enough to melt a person. “Every word you said, your boyfriend heard it all.”
After years of companionship, those hidden feelings finally saw the light of day. To be directly claimed by Ye Ran, to be firmly placed within the category of ‘mine’—it was everything.
Ye Ran was clearly stunned, as if scorched by Chi Yuheng’s words. Dense throbs of emotion spread from his heart to his four limbs and hundred bones.
Though the wall behind him was icy, his body temperature skyrocketed in an instant.
He was the one who had started this form of confession, yet now his composure was squeezed out of existence by his frantic heartbeat.
“If you heard it… then you heard it…”
After a long silence, Ye Ran finally squeezed out such a dry sentence from his throat.
Too weak.
He subconsciously avoided Chi Yuheng’s gaze, his eyes drifting toward a corner of the office.
Ye Ran had intended to confess, but now he was the one being teased into this state by Chi Yuheng’s two sentences.
The proactive one was him, yet the passive one was also him.
Chi Yuheng looked down at him, the heat in his eyes replaced by a gentle smile.
His fingertips slid along Ye Ran’s cheek to his jaw, gently turning his face back so they could lock eyes again.
“Just heard it? Boyfriend, think about it—do you want to say anything else to me?”
Ye Ran crashed back into those eyes full of laughter, and his heart skipped another beat.
Then, he cursed himself inwardly for being so useless.
Chi Yuheng just gives you one look and your rhythm is completely ruined?!
Tease him back! Show some strength! There’s no one else in the office—be brave, kiss him hard, and take him down!
Within a short ten seconds, Ye Ran finished brainwashing himself.
He finally mustered his courage and spoke stutteringly, “I… I’ll think about it before I speak…”
In this situation, if Chi Youchu were present, he would probably laugh at Ye Ran for days, calling him out for dropping the ball at the critical moment.
Ye Ran dropped the ball, but Chi Yuheng wouldn’t give him a chance to retreat.
His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. His gaze was locked tightly onto Ye Ran’s eyes. Without any unnecessary buildup, his voice was as light as a feather landing on the tip of a heart, yet every word was clear.
“I like you, Ye Ran.”
Ye Ran’s breath hitched sharply. In the end, it was Chi Yuheng who used such a direct and gentle method to hand the words “I like you” straight to him.
“It wasn’t on a whim; it’s been ‘like’ from the beginning to the end.”
This sentence played on a loop in Ye Ran’s mind. He stared blankly at Chi Yuheng.
A layer of moisture actually covered his eyes. He felt that if he didn’t say something soon, “sand” was going to get into his eyes.
Ye Ran sniffed his nose. “I was originally going to say that sentence, but you beat me to it.”
The corners of Chi Yuheng’s lips curled into a wide arc.
During his decade-long companionship with Ye Ran, he was used to being the one who covered for Ye Ran and guided him through things he didn’t understand.
Saying “I like you” was like an answer sitting on the tip of the tongue; the little child just didn’t know how to express it.
He considered it giving himself the chance to say the words hidden in his heart first.
Ye Ran looked at the doting look in Chi Yuheng’s eyes and tilted his chin up.
The window paper had been poked through; it was time to regain his home court advantage.
“I wanted to confess to you but you beat me to it. But it’s okay—I have a very good temper, so I forgive you.”
The doting in Chi Yuheng’s eyes was almost overflowing as he responded with a good-tempered, “Thank you, Ye-zi.”
“So, Chi Yuheng, are we considered to be dating now?”
Chi Yuheng nodded. “Mm. We’re dating.”
Ye Ran grinned, his eyes as bright as if they were filled with starlight.
The progress of his pursuit had reached one hundred percent. Mission accomplished.
He raised an eyebrow and looked at Chi Yuheng, a hint of sly joy in his eyes. “As your boyfriend, I’m going to exercise my rights.”
Before he could finish, Ye Ran didn’t give Chi Yuheng time to react. He reached out and grabbed the tie at the man’s shirt collar.
His fingertips touched the cool fabric, yet he didn’t hesitate for a second. With a light tug, the distance between them was instantly pulled extremely close.
A warm breath rushed over his face. Ye Ran could even clearly see his own reflection in the depths of Chi Yuheng’s eyes.
Chi Yuheng didn’t move; he simply leaned down slightly to cooperate with his movements.
Looking at Chi Yuheng’s lips so close at hand, Ye Ran’s cheeks felt like they were on fire. However, the hand clutching the tie didn’t loosen in the slightest. He tilted his head up and pressed his lips against the man’s.
There was no complex lingering—it was just a light, somewhat tentative touch, yet it was like an electric current instantly coursing through his entire body.
But in the next second, he felt Chi Yuheng’s hand land gently on his waist. With just the right amount of force, the man pulled him into his arms, bringing their bodies even closer.
In this kiss, Chi Yuheng didn’t take the initiative; he only responded gently.
After an unknown amount of time, Ye Ran finally pulled back slightly, his voice a bit raspy. “My first ‘right’… are you satisfied?”
