Chapter 137: What Did You Do to Me?
Feng Shi purchased three lighting items from the system, one for each of them.
The originally dark passage was instantly illuminated as bright as day.
Ruan Ping, puffing out his cheeks, pulled Quan Xinghe up from the ground. It took a lot of effort to hoist the limp body onto his back.
Warm breath puffed against his neck, feeling itchy.
Ruan Ping reached out to push away the head lolling against his shoulder, only for it to roll back a moment later.
The four of them headed toward the left side of the passage.
This place was likely deep underground; it was damp and cold, with slippery moss growing everywhere.
After walking for a while, a three-way junction suddenly appeared before them.
There was no discernible difference between the three paths, nor was there anything special about them. It seemed choosing any direction would lead to the same result.
Feng Shi stopped at the junction and didn’t move for a long time.
“Senior Brother?” After waiting for a while without any movement, Shen Songhe couldn’t help but tilt his head to look at him.
Feng Shi blinked, ending his conversation with Qingqing. He calmly crouched down, picked up a long piece of rubble from the ground, and weighed it in his hand.
Ruan Ping poked his head out from behind him, panting for breath, his eyes shining. “Senior Brother, is that stone some kind of treasure?”
Feng Shi gave him a sidelong glance. “It is indeed a treasure.”
Having said that, he tossed the stone into the air.
Three sets of eyes followed it as it rose.
Then quickly fell.
Thud.
The stone landed dully in the dirt.
Feng Shi looked down at the narrower end of the stone, which happened to point toward one of the paths. He immediately decided: “Alright! We’ll take this one!”
Ruan Ping: “…”
Isn’t this… a bit too casual…?
Shen Songhe’s expression remained unchanged as he stepped forward to follow closely behind Feng Shi.
Ruan Ping stood in place, looking left and right.
A cold wind blew from nowhere, making him shiver. Seeing the two silhouettes ahead nearly out of sight, he didn’t dare linger any longer and hurriedly caught up.
After walking for about another fifteen minutes, the path changed again, presenting another fork.
Without a second thought, Feng Shi repeated his previous method and chose one of the paths.
However, the further they walked, the thinner the spiritual qi became.
Conversely, the demonic energy grew increasingly dense.
Venerable Yuguang was a powerhouse of the Immortal Realm. Logically speaking, the Secret Realm he constructed should not contain demonic energy.
Unless other members of the Demonic Race were lurking here.
“Se… Senior Brother… should we really keep going forward?” Ruan Ping’s cowardly nature was fully exposed. He was jumpy at every shadow, and a layer of sweat broke out on his small nose due to nerves.
Feng Shi smiled and patted him on the head. “Don’t worry. Following the protagonist means you’ll have meat to eat. Maybe we’ll even stumble upon some great opportunity this time.”
“Protagonist? Opportunity?” Ruan Ping searched his mind, confused.
At that moment, the person who had been lying on his shoulder like a corpse suddenly twitched slightly.
Ruan Ping, who was already terrified, felt his scalp tingle. He nearly threw the man off his back.
The two pills Feng Shi had administered had taken effect. Quan Xinghe’s injuries were mostly healed, and he was now slowly regaining consciousness.
His breath was hot, and his brows were deeply furrowed. His eyeballs rolled beneath his thin eyelids.
Seeing that the man was truly about to wake up, Ruan Ping looked at Feng Shi helplessly. The ear that Quan Xinghe’s cheek was pressed against had turned completely red, and his voice trembled: “Se… Senior Brother, wh-wh-what should I do if he wakes up? Is he going to try and kill me?”
Seeing him like a frightened rabbit, Feng Shi felt like laughing. “Rest assured. I have temporarily sealed his spiritual veins; he won’t be able to harm you.”
Ruan Ping finally breathed a sigh of relief.
However, now that the man was waking up, he was no longer willing to carry him. He set the man down against a stone wall.
Quan Xinghe soon woke up.
Upon seeing the three of them, the confusion on his face upon waking instantly vanished, replaced by his previous hostile expression.
“Cough, cough, cough!”
His voice was still weak. He raised a hand, only to find he couldn’t mobilize his spiritual qi. He spoke again in disbelief: “Pretty boy! What did you do to me?!”
Feng Shi leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, his tone indifferent in contrast: “What are you barking about? If we hadn’t saved you, you’d already be halfway in the grave.”
“Stop lying to me!”
Quan Xinghe didn’t believe him at all. Like a vicious dog, his eyes glared fiercely at Feng Shi as if he would lung forward and bite at any second.
Seeing this, Ruan Ping was very dissatisfied. He frowned and argued on Feng Shi’s behalf: “You’re too ungrateful! We clearly saved you, yet you’re still being so aggressive!”
“Who asked you to save me!” Quan Xinghe roared, turning to glare at him. His eyes were bloodshot, and due to the sudden exertion, he began to cough while clutching his chest.
Ruan Ping was stunned by the roar. He instantly felt angry and aggrieved, wanting to step forward and argue with him.
With a faint smile in his eyes, Feng Shi stood up straight and stopped him. “That’s enough, Ruan Ping. Why bother with him? We’ve already done our part. Since he doesn’t appreciate it, then so be it.”
“Let’s go.”
Ruan Ping clenched his fists and glared at Quan Xinghe for a long moment before letting out a heavy hmph, turning to follow Feng Shi.
Quan Xinghe narrowed his eyes, his expression incredibly dark. Seeing the three of them walking away, he couldn’t help but punch the ground.
Ruan Ping looked back at the sound, met his gaze, and then turned back with his head held high to continue walking.
Quan Xinghe moved his body, only to find himself feeling weak all over.
In this place with no end in sight, if he encountered any demon beasts, he—who couldn’t use spiritual qi—would surely die.
A late-arriving sense of fear crept into his heart. Quan Xinghe’s furrowed brows relaxed, and the expression on his youthful face softened considerably.
No matter how manic or arrogant he was, he was still only seventeen or eighteen years old. Faced with the fear of the unknown, it was inevitable that he would lose his composure.
“Hey! Wait!”
He braced himself against the wall and stood up through gritted teeth.
Ruan Ping was the first to look back. He shot him a sharp look and said word by word: “Un… grate… ful… wolf…”
“Senior Brother, let’s ignore him!”
The three of them continued on.
Quan Xinghe leaned against the wall, his cheeks flushed. “Hey! Did you hear me?! Wait for this young master!”
Ruan Ping was still fuming. Hearing his voice annoyed him, so he picked up a stone and threw it at him.
The stone hit Quan Xinghe on the forehead. He instantly grimaced in pain, his young master’s temper flared as he prepared to curse. Fortunately, he managed to restrain himself in time, his lips pressed tightly together.
Up ahead, though Feng Shi didn’t stop, his pace noticeably slowed.
Ruan Ping and Shen Songhe also slowed their steps.
Quan Xinghe followed behind them, hurrying as fast as he could. Finally, after fifteen minutes, he caught up, drenched in sweat.
He hadn’t fully recovered and didn’t have much strength. As soon as he caught up, he over-familiarly slung an arm around Ruan Ping’s shoulder, shifting most of his weight onto him and using him as a crutch.
Ruan Ping’s eyes went round. He gripped the man’s wrist tightly and pulled his arm off. “What are you doing!”
Quan Xinghe stumbled from the push, his face darkening as he said as if it were a matter of course: “What’s wrong with you supporting this young master for a bit!”
What’s wrong?
You’re asking for help yet acting so bossy! Ruan Ping was nearly dead from rage. He raised his leg and stomped hard on the man’s shoe, cursing: “Are you insane?!”
“Young master syndrome!” After his outburst, he ran back to Feng Shi’s side.
Quan Xinghe’s expression twisted from the stomp. He wanted to curse with all his might, but his lips just opened and closed. He pressed his tongue against his teeth and ultimately held back.
