Chapter 140: Bullying
When the wife you picked out yourself gets angry, what else can you do? Coax him, of course!
Feng Shi strictly adhered to male virtues. He reached out and gently ruffled the crown of Shen Songhe’s hair. His voice was soft and gentle, carrying a cutesy tone that even he himself found a bit cloying: “There, there…”
Shen Songhe’s eyelashes fluttered. He raised his eyes to look at him, a very pathetic trace of anticipation welling up in his heart.
Feng Shi: “He was just an accident~”
It was the same “there, there,” the same drawn-out tone, and the exact same sentence structure as earlier…
But it was missing two words.
Two crucial words!
Disappointment washed over Shen Songhe’s face. He lowered his eyes, turned his back, and continued to give him the silent treatment.
Feng Shi: ?
What did I do wrong this time??
[Forget it, Host. You are hopeless. You should just focus on your career; I will delete your romance route for you.]
Qingqing, having seen through everything, spoke while making a show of pulling up the system panel.
“Damn it, don’t!” Startled, Feng Shi reached out to pinch the system interface, speaking rapidly. “You have to give a straight guy some room to learn, right?!”
Qingqing shot him a side-eye:
[Even if the Main System blew up today, I, Qingqing, would still never believe your claim that you are straight, Feng Shi.]
Knowing he couldn’t talk his way out of it, Feng Shi awkwardly changed the subject. “T-Then, you didn’t just pop out suddenly to teach me how to date, did you?”
[Who wants to teach you? I’m not a dating system. I just came out to warn you that Yanluo is in the palace right ahead. If you don’t hurry, someone else is going to snatch it.]
When it came to serious business, Feng Shi became much more solemn. He nodded. “Understood. I won’t give anyone the chance to steal my wife’s belongings.”
[You…]
Qingqing hesitated, casting a long, deep look at him before finally swallowing its words.
Their current location appeared to be the fringes of the underground palace. Aside from the lanterns, the water, and the pavilion, there was nothing else in sight.
The only path leading away from here faded into a layer of mist at its far end, obscuring whatever lay ahead.
Having confirmed their objective, Feng Shi pulled along the still-sulking Shen Songhe. Trailing behind them were the two bickering nemeses as they walked down the path.
Every two steps, the path was flanked by a stone lantern. Carved onto the lanterns were the demonic fish they had seen in the water. The blue flames within flickered and danced with a poof poof sound whenever someone walked past.
Feng Shi might not have been skilled at coaxing people, but thankfully, he possessed martial prowess.
Seeing that there was clearly something odd about the mist ahead, he didn’t waste time thinking and opted for a direct, violent approach.
With a single hand wielding his sword, he executed a rapid series of strikes.
The sword light slashed forward, vanishing into the mist. However, instead of slicing through empty air, it produced a series of dull, heavy thuds.
Immediately after, the dense mist let out a piercing shriek, forcing Ruan Ping and Quan Xinghe to clamp their hands tightly over their ears.
As if infuriated, the mist billowed and surged rapidly toward them, shedding its disguise to transform into an incredibly foul-smelling, blood-red fog.
Ruan Ping and Quan Xinghe hurriedly moved to cover their noses, their actions perfectly synchronized.
Feng Shi’s expression didn’t change. He shielded Shen Songhe behind him and prepared to unleash his ultimate move.
All fear stems from a lack of firepower.
His strike carried a bone-chilling sword intent, accompanied by the force of crashing waves and toppling mountains. It caused the entire underground palace to tremble in its wake.
Seeing this, the previously aggressive blood mist jolted to a halt and actually shrank back halfway.
Feng Shi sneered, his movements unceasing as he prepared to strike again.
Unexpectedly, the fog opposite them instantly dissipated, trembling as it revealed its true form.
It was a group of little skeletal imps guarding a small arched bridge ahead.
After witnessing Feng Shi’s display, the skeletons were terrified half to death. Their jaws clattered together as they huddled into a tight, trembling mass.
One of them, hastily pushed to the front to act as a representative, began kowtowing frantically to Feng Shi.
The spiritual qi swirling around Feng Shi like a gale slightly receded. He demanded sternly, “Are you going to let us pass or not?”
The high pitch of his voice startled the skeletal imps so severely that their bones clattered and fell apart into a pile on the ground. Once they recovered, they frantically scrambled to reassemble themselves, knelt on both sides of the path, pressed their hands together, and nodded furiously.
Seemingly satisfied, Feng Shi sheathed his sword with a sharp swoosh and confidently led the group forward.
The other three had long been left dumbfounded by his wild display. As they passed the imps, they noticed that in their panic, the skeletons had picked up the wrong bones, assembling themselves in a mismatched, rather comical fashion.
“Shixiong Liu is incredible!” Ruan Ping’s face was flushed with excitement. He hopped twice in place, looking more than ever like a little rabbit.
Quan Xinghe’s hands itched as he watched. He patted the top of Ruan Ping’s head. “Idiot, stop bouncing around and hurry up and support this young master.”
Ruan Ping let out a hmph, ran far away without even sparing him a glance.
He knew Quan Xinghe had recovered long ago; the guy was just bullying him!
Marching forward in this manner, they slaughtered every monster and demon in their path with exceptional efficiency.
Before long, the group arrived before a majestic palace.
The palace was gargantuan. The main gate alone stood a hundred meters high, reaching further than the eye could see. The exterior was built from dark jade and roofed with glazed tiles. Even the ground beneath their feet was paved with spiritual jade stretching for miles.
With such a grand display, calling it a “jade pavilion of the heavens” or a “dwelling of immortals” wouldn’t be an overstatement.
Yet now, this pristine immortal palace was enshrouded in a dense cloud of demonic energy, some of which had already seeped into the spiritual jade below.
The densest concentration of demonic energy was undoubtedly radiating from within the palace itself.
“Huh? Has someone already gone in ahead of us?” Ruan Ping asked.
They looked up the overlapping tiers of white jade stairs. The massive palace doors at the summit had inexplicably been pushed open, leaving a gap wide enough for a single person to pass.
Feng Shi’s expression hardened.
It was exactly as Qingqing had said; someone had beaten them to it.
“What are you all standing around for?! If we wait any longer, all the good stuff will be stolen!” Quan Xinghe ground his teeth and flew forward first. His spiritual qi had recovered, successfully breaking through the blocked meridians.
Ruan Ping panicked. “You petty man! Aren’t you afraid of dying?!”
He quickly turned to Feng Shi. “Shixiong, are we going in too? There are definitely demonic cultivators inside…”
“We’re going. Why wouldn’t we?”
Before his voice had even faded, Feng Shi was already standing at the palace entrance, arriving a step ahead of the first-to-depart Quan Xinghe.
Ruan Ping pounded his fist into his palm.
For a disciple like him, let alone fighting the Demonic Race, he had barely even seen them. Ultimately, he was still afraid. But seeing the other three gather at the palace doors one after another, he gritted his teeth and hurried after them.
Feng Shi pressed his foot against the door, testing its weight.
The jade doors were immensely heavy, but since the sealing wards had already been broken, he could easily kick it open.
The narrow gap instantly widened, releasing a gust of chilling, sinister air.
The interior was just as brightly lit as the outside. Lanterns were placed everywhere, and the furnishings appeared completely normal and mundane. Nothing seemed out of place.
However, a closer look revealed obvious signs of a recent, fierce battle near the entrance.
Rounding two stone pillars, several corpses lying haphazardly on the floor suddenly came into view.
The dead were all young disciples, still clad in their sect uniforms. They belonged to minor sects whose names barely registered.
There were no traces of demonic spells remaining in the area, indicating that this was likely a fatal infighting among the sect disciples.
This underground palace had remained undiscovered until now. The treasures lurking within were bound to inspire greed, making it highly probable that people would forsake all rules and slaughter each other for the spoils.
But…
Feng Shi raised a hand to cover his nose. “Do you guys smell something?”
Translator’s Note:
- “Walking Chicken” (小走地雞): Here, Feng Shi affectionately/jokingly refers to Shen Songhe as a “little free-range chicken,” a playful callback to when he actually was a chicken.
