Chapter 56: Mad Dogs Biting Each Other (2) â Sowing Discord / Why Are They Fighting…
Anyway, he felt incredibly restless.
Xie Huaijin stared at the back of Jiang Chenyanâs neck, unable to pull his gaze away.
Jiang Chenyan had long since turned his head back. His palm gripped his scarf tightly, as if terrified the other might strike again; the fabric was pinched into deep, wrinkled lines.
Seeing this, the irritability in Xie Huaijinâs heart didnât subside. Instead, it felt as if a bucket of oil had been tossed onto a fire, making it burn even more fiercely.
Shen Shiyue had finished solving the problem on the board. He instinctively furrowed his brows, and his gaze darkened instantly when he saw Xie Huaijin sitting behind Jiang Chenyan. His eyes were as cold as a deep winter night.
Their gazes collided, devoid of any warmth.
Shen Shiyue didnât look at Xie Huaijin again. He walked slowly down from the podium and sat directly in the empty seat next to Jiang Chenyan, leaning slightly toward him. “Are you alright?”
Jiang Chenyanâs shoulders moved slightly, and his shake of the head was minimal. “Iâm fine.”
Sitting behind them, Xie Huaijinâs brow tightened. The hand holding his pen clenched involuntarily, the barrel nearly digging into his palm.
This was truly unpleasant.
With a clatter, the pen was slammed heavily onto the desk. It bounced twice before rolling to the edge and stopping.
He didn’t look at anyone, nor did he care about the sudden gazes from those around him. He rose straight from his seat. The chair was pushed back, letting out a piercing screech against the floor, and then he walked toward the door without looking back.
The teacher, who was busy writing on the blackboard, looked up at the sound, only to see Xie Huaijinâs departing back. He opened his mouth but ultimately swallowed his words. If the young master wanted to leave, how would he dare stop him?
After a few seconds of silence, the teacher merely sighed softly, asking no questions. He only gestured for the commotion in the classroom to settle down. “Everyone, be quiet. Letâs continue with the lesson.”
As soon as Xie Huaijin stepped out of the classroom, someone in the back row whispered, “Whatâs going on? Who provoked that guy this time?”
The moment those words were out, the person next to him immediately nudged his arm and gave a sharp “Shh.” His eyes darted toward the podium and then toward Jiang Chenyan.
“Itâs not our business. Don’t gossip.”
Sitting in the front row, Jiang Chenyan acted as if he hadn’t heard the commotion behind him.
His fingertips pinched the edge of a page as he flipped forward, his face expressionless.
What kind of madness was Xie Huaijin throwing now?
“It’s a bit boring,” he casually remarked to Shen Shiyue beside him, breaking the silence between them.
Shen Shiyue turned his head to look at him. “Boring? Is there something you want to do?”
Hearing this, the corners of Jiang Chenyanâs lips curled up into a soft chuckle. He didn’t answer directly, only saying, “I donât know.”
Having said that, he looked out the window, his gaze vacant. He seemed to be looking at the scenery outside, yet he also seemed to be thinking of something else. His eyes rested on the distant treetops, and he spoke no more.
He was a cannon fodder.
But now he faced a problem.
He had intended to change the plot, but reality had dealt him a heavy blow. The plot had changed, but it had collapsed. After being bitten by the protagonist gong, he seemed to have fallen into a dilemma.
The primary task was to graduate smoothly. He couldn’t forget that.
As for the protagonist shouâs side…
He glanced at Shen Shiyue and privately reckoned things should be fine there. It was just that all the firepower had shifted onto him, the cannon fodder.
Although the situation was a bit tricky, as long as he handled it carefully, there shouldn’t be any major issues. He comforted himself with this thought.
Pulling back his drifting thoughts, Jiang Chenyan seemed to suddenly remember something. He turned to ask Shen Shiyue, “Can we graduate early at our school?”
Shen Shiyueâs hand holding the pen paused, a look of clear surprise appearing on his face. “?”
He hadn’t expected Jiang Chenyan to ask this out of the blue.
“What’s wrong?”
Jiang Chenyanâs gaze returned to the textbook, his tone devoid of ripples. “Just asking casually. It’s nothing, really.”
Shen Shiyue didn’t press further, but he couldn’t help but look at Jiang Chenyan a few more times. Those lowered eyes held no emotional fluctuations, but he felt it wasn’t as simple as “just asking casually.”
…
In the evening, Jiang Chenyan scrolled through the projected pages of his guangnao, contemplating finding another part-time job.
Shen Shiyue suddenly spoke up, “I can recommend one to you. You just need to mind the shop.”
Jiang Chenyan looked up, a bit surprised. “Really?”
“Itâs a cashier job, not complicated,” Shen Shiyue added.
He leaned over to look at the shop information Shen Shiyue sent and nodded. “This works. Iâll chat with them first.”
But after just a few sentences, the salary the other party quoted was unexpectedâmuch higher than he had anticipated. Looking closer at the shop description, he realized it was a jewelry store. Was the pay for a jewelry store always this high?
“It’s considered a high-end shop, so a high salary is normal,” Shen Shiyue said flatly, dispelling Jiang Chenyanâs doubts.
Jiang Chenyan nodded as if enlightened, then added, “Thatâs true. However, I can only work the night shift. I have classes during the day and really canât get away.” As he spoke, he quickly messaged the shop owner to explain the situation. To his surprise, the other party was exceptionally straightforward and agreed to the night shift requirement almost immediately.
“Thanks. You helped me find such a perfect fit.”
But he still couldn’t help asking the doubt in his heart, “But where did you find this shop? I feel like this kind of easy, high-paying part-time job is quite hard to come by.”
Did Shen Shiyue really have that much influence?
No matter how he thought about it, it felt a bit strange.
Shen Shiyueâs face remained expressionless as he spoke slowly, “That? I took the liberty of sending them your photo. This shop has high requirements for appearance, and they agreed immediately after seeing the photo.”
“…” Jiang Chenyan stared at Shen Shiyue, momentarily speechless. He raised a hand to support his forehead, letting out a helpless yet amused sigh. “Fine…”
Although having his photo sent without permission was sudden, he was quite satisfied with the answer.
He had probably overthought it. Since Shen Shiyue recommended it, there shouldn’t be a problem.
Mulling it over, he completely relaxed. Regardless, this job was suitable.
It wasn’t early anymore. Jiang Chenyan packed up simply, quickly washed up, and lay down on the bed. Drowsiness soon overcame him.
In a half-dreaming, half-waking state, a cool yet rich scent of pheromones drifted into his nostrils. It smelled like Mandura flowersâa scent he was very familiar with.
Drowsiness enveloped him completely, and his brows suddenly knitted together. It felt as if a small flame had crawled into his body, burning from his heart to his limbs. The dry heat became increasingly obvious, and even his neck broke into a thin sweat.
A broad hand gently pressed against his forehead. The fingertips carried a slight chill, pressing down a bit of the burning heat.
And then… the palm began to move down.
His bodyâs sensitivity was beyond imagination, triggering a shudder.
The warmth from the palm seeped through his thin pajamas, carrying a hint of comfort.
Jiang Chenyanâs eyelashes fluttered. Before he could react, he felt a heavy gaze fall upon his face.
That gaze was deep and heavy, fixed firmly on his furrowed brows and flushed cheeks, not missing a single spot…
His consciousness felt as if it were soaking in warm water, drifting groggily. Jiang Chenyan couldn’t even lift his heavy eyelids.
The heat in his body hadn’t subsided, and everything around him was blurred beyond belief. The hand on his forehead, that heavy gaze, and the faint scent of Mandura in the airâall of it felt unreal.
He thought dizzily, This must be a dream, right? Otherwise, why would it be so ethereal? He couldn’t even grasp a clue as to what would happen next.
Later, he lost consciousness entirely and fell into a deep sleep.
…
Warm yellow light hung from the ceiling, spreading a soft halo across the floor.
Shen Shiyue stood at the edge of the glow, his figure half in light and half in shadow, but his gaze was locked unblinkingly on the person on the bed.
The person on the bed had an abnormal flush on their cheeks, eyelashes resting quietly, and shallow breath. They had clearly fallen into a deep sleep.
He leaned down slowly. His thumb rested lightly on Jiang Chenyanâs flushed cheek and neck, the pad of his finger slowly stroking the delicate skin. The temperature from his fingertips was scalding, nearly seeping through the skin into the bone and blood.
In the air, only the sound of Jiang Chenyanâs breathing remained. Silence flooded the room for a few seconds before he finally spoke in a low voice. His words were as light as a sigh scattered by the wind, every syllable wrapped in an unshakeable coldness.
“I want to kill them…”
The person on the bed seemed to sense something and suddenly gave a light shiver, as if about to be startled awake from the deep sleep. But in the next second, they returned to tranquility, completely still.
Shen Shiyueâs eyes, however, darkened in that instant, like they were dipped in ink, leaving behind a fathomless abyss.
He wasn’t joking with that sentence…
