Chapter 87: When Did You Start Dating? – Decadent Desires
He couldn’t say exactly what he was feeling.
Clearly, he had just confessed his feelings to Jiang Chenyan not long ago.
But when Shen Shiyue followed the sound of the explosion and raced to the site of the attack like a madman, the shuttle was already in ruins.
The metal hull had been torn open with several gashes, and charred debris was scattered everywhere. The air was filled with a thick scent of gunpowder and a faint smell of blood.
Two figures were flying at low altitude, as if searching for someone.
Closing in, Shen Shiyue recognized those two as Xie Huaijin and Mu Sian.
His heart suddenly constricted. Almost instinctively, he gave chase.
Later, he learned piece by piece from the Alliance rescue personnel that when the attack occurred, Jiang Chenyan had accidentally fallen through a hole in the shuttle. Xie Huaijin and Mu Sian had immediately jumped down to search.
After everything ended, everyone was certain Jiang Chenyan wouldn’t survive. From such a height, in a desolate area—how could he possibly live?
Shen Shiyue still remembered his state at that time. There were no heart-wrenching cries, but rather a bone-deep hollowness, as if all the strength in his body had been drained. Relying on a single obsession, he had searched every inch of the surrounding dozens of miles, refusing to let go of even the slightest trace.
Luckily.
Right now, this person was staying obediently before him, not having vanished in that chaos.
Shen Shiyue’s voice carried a hint of undetectable hoarseness. “So, can you explain now?”
“Why were you so desperate to join the Alliance before, yet now you were so hurried to escape from there, even going so far as to use a ‘death escape’?”
Jiang Chenyan had anticipated Shen Shiyue would ask. The fingers at his side curled quietly as he slowly lifted his gaze to look at Shen Shiyue.
“Because my identity as an Omega was discovered by them.”
“Not just Xie Huaijin and Mu Sian. Several Alphas in the Alliance who hold real power also found out…” Jiang Chenyan’s voice was very light, sounding a bit difficult to talk about.
Shen Shiyue’s heart sank. He could vaguely guess the rest. He waited for Jiang Chenyan to continue.
“They wanted to force me on the shuttle.” Thinking of the situation then, Jiang Chenyan’s vision went dark. He turned his face away, avoiding Shen Shiyue’s gaze. “I knew entering the Alliance would be dangerous, but I didn’t expect it to be dangerous to this extent…”
“I understand.” Shen Shiyue’s voice was icy, his pupils solidified with a lingering hostility that wouldn’t disperse.
No wonder Jiang Chenyan’s clothes were dirty and torn, with marks of tearing at the edges. Could he suspect that Jiang Chenyan hadn’t accidentally fallen from the ship at all, but was forced by those Alphas and had to jump from the shuttle to survive?
He softened his tone and continued: “I’ve been investigating the truth behind your fall. I found out you had cooperated with the LE organization before, but the shuttle met with trouble before reaching the agreed location with them…”
Hearing this, Jiang Chenyan nodded. “it was quite unexpected.”
Although he was caught off guard, it had also helped him get away in time.
Shen Shiyue’s eyes grew darker. His fingertips brushed over Jiang Chenyan’s slightly cool back as his thoughts churned. The Alliance hadn’t been peaceful lately.
He said nothing more. His broad palm directly locked around Jiang Chenyan’s waist and, with a bit of force, pulled the person steadily into his arms.
The waistline under his palm was thin, carrying a trace of undetectable trembling. Shen Shiyue instinctively tightened his arms, pulling the person even closer.
His nose was filled with the other’s unique, gentle yet secure Alpha pheromones. Jiang Chenyan’s tense nerves gradually relaxed.
He obediently leaned his head against Shen Shiyue’s chest, listening to the steady and powerful heartbeat. A corner of his lips unconsciously turned up into a small curve.
He shouldn’t be angry anymore.
Just then, the hatch door opened with a click, and Kai Lan poked his head in.
Seeing the two leaning together, he raised an eyebrow and teased: “Not bad, Jiang Chenyan. You coaxed him so quickly? I thought you’d be in a cold war until we reached the destination.”
The originally relaxed Jiang Chenyan stiffened. He instinctively tried to break free from Shen Shiyue’s embrace, his hand pressing against Shen Shiyue’s chest. He used a bit of force, leaning back to try and create some distance. Sensing this, the palms locked around his waist didn’t loosen, but instead tightened further.
A fine smile flickered in Shen Shiyue’s eyes. His warm breath fanned over Jiang Chenyan’s ear: “What’s the rush?”
With those three simple words, Jiang Chenyan’s struggle instantly lost its strength.
His waist was firmly held, and before him was the wall-like Shen Shiyue. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Jiang Chenyan could only be forced to maintain his curled posture, his body stiff as a board.
“…”
Kai Lan leaned against the hatch doorway. “So I’m just a transparent person? Just act like I don’t exist, right?”
He couldn’t bear to look.
“Alright, alright, you two. Stop being mushy.” Kai Lan cleared his throat. “We need to depart.”
Turning back to the pilot’s seat, Kai Lan skillfully controlled the shuttle to start while muttering to himself: When did these two start dating in secret?
Jiang Chenyan struggled to pull back a bit from Shen Shiyue’s arms and suggested: “Can I change my posture?”
Shen Shiyue gave a low laugh, releasing the hand on Jiang Chenyan’s waist. He followed the other’s wishes and nodded: “Alright, whatever you say.”
And so the posture changed; the two sat side-by-side.
Perhaps he was too tired today. Not long after, Jiang Chenyan’s eyelids grew heavier and heavier. His head uncontrollably bobbed once or twice before finally tilting to lean against Shen Shiyue’s shoulder. His breathing gradually became steady.
Shen Shiyue brushed his hand over Jiang Chenyan’s cheek. The cabin was silent, with only their breathing intertwined.
When the shuttle landed, Jiang Chenyan woke up with a start. Only after seeing the surroundings clearly did his expression slowly calm down.
Seeing this, Shen Shiyue took off his overcoat and draped it over Jiang Chenyan. The wide hem wrapped Jiang Chenyan up tightly.
He reached out and caught Jiang Chenyan’s wrist, pulling him up: “Don’t be afraid. You’re safe.”
Jiang Chenyan looked down at the coat on his shoulder. The fabric was soft, still holding the other’s cool pheromones. He frowned. “Since when was I afraid?”
Shen Shiyue said nothing in response, merely tightening his grip on Jiang Chenyan’s wrist.
“Welcome to my secret base!” Kai Lan’s voice came from ahead.
Jiang Chenyan, “?”
He and Shen Shiyue followed Kai Lan off the shuttle, only to find the outside was a wasteland forest.
Weeds grew in abundance, and the trees were lush; it was remote and hidden.
…
The three walked into the forest, looking around. There seemed to be nothing special about it.
Kai Lan walked to a cluster of bushes, leaned over to push aside the branches, and pressed a switch hidden at the base. A heavy stone door slowly opened. He turned and smiled: “Please come in, you two. Don’t be formal.”
Jiang Chenyan raised an eyebrow. “You were hiding your light under a bushel.”
“That’s a must. I spent a lot of effort setting this up.”
Following Kai Lan inside—it should have been voice-activated lights—the lights in the corridor lit up automatically, illuminating the path ahead.
Jiang Chenyan remembered the relationship between Shen Shiyue and the Shen family. He paused his steps and asked the person beside him: “You sneaked out of the house without a word. Will your family members…”
Make things difficult for you?
Jiang Chenyan didn’t say the last few words.
Shen Shiyue looked down at Jiang Chenyan, his grip on the wrist gently loosening. His voice was low and steady: “Don’t worry. At the very least, they are family…”
Jiang Chenyan didn’t press further. Some words were best left unsaid.
He withdrew his gaze and walked forward silently. Only the sound of the three people’s footsteps remained in the corridor.
Passing through the corridor, inside was a spacious laboratory. The shelves were filled with jars and bottles of various specifications, the colorful liquids shimmering under the lights. The instruments and equipment were arranged neatly, layer upon layer.
Kai Lan was the first to enter. He raised his hand and gestured in a circle, telling Jiang Chenyan, “This is where you and I will work from now on.”
“Me?” Jiang Chenyan pointed to himself. “What do you mean?”
“What? I’m all alone here, lonely and desolate. Do you have the heart to not stay by my side?”
Jiang Chenyan stood in place silently, his brow slightly furrowed.
Seeing this, Kai Lan took a step forward. “You have to stay whether you want to or not. Right now, our social identities are ‘dead’; staying in this place is for the best. First, there are no people, and second, there’s no trouble. It’s a true safe haven.”
Thinking carefully, Jiang Chenyan realized Kai Lan was right. His current situation was special; there was a large-scale discussion about his matter online. This place was hidden and safe, truly the best choice for now.
“Fine then. I need to check what the situation is like outside now…”
Since the person had agreed, Kai Lan grew energetic and hurriedly said, “Come, I have the latest light-brain equipment here.”
With that, the two walked toward a small room in the corner of the lab. Shen Shiyue stood alone in place.
The Alpha’s eyes grew deeper, filled with complex emotions. He had originally planned to take Jiang Chenyan to a place isolated from the world, to completely control him by his side. The other would only be able to look at him and rely on him, becoming his possession alone, no longer having to face those Alphas who coveted him or falling into danger.
But Jiang Chenyan was too good at coaxing. A few soft words, a single look, and all his anger and possessiveness were instantly extinguished.
Inside the small room, Jiang Chenyan quickly operated the equipment. The screen was filled with various news reports, all about his “death.”
The reports claimed that he had met with an attack on the shuttle and, in the chaos, had accidentally fallen. His whereabouts were unknown, and he had been officially declared dead.
Not a single word mentioned his identity as an Omega. The filthy things those Alphas tried to do to him on the shuttle had also been wiped clean, as if nothing had happened and everything was just an accident.
…
The bar.
Crystal chandeliers reflected gold-like light, pouring over the velvet-covered floor and dyeing it an ambiguous warm yellow.
Small gems were embedded in the walls, shimmering with a decadent glow in the light and shadow. Expensive champagne towers were stacked like small mountains, bubbles fizzing in the glasses.
Behind the bar, amber whiskey traced a wave-like arc in the bartender’s shaker. The entire venue was filled with the scents of perfume and clothes; some were holding their partners, kissing wantonly, while others were tossing large stacks of cash onto the tables. The deafening music drowned out shallow gasps and vulgar laughter and curses.
In the seat of honor in the VIP room, a top-rank Alpha was dressed in a high-end black suit. Two buttons at his collar were loose, revealing his collarbone. A cigarette was held between his fingers; amidst the swirling smoke, his narrow eyes were half-lidded, his expression cold. He just stared down at the drink in his glass, as if everything around him had nothing to do with him.
An Omega wearing thin clothes was forced to sit beside several Alphas. Tears slid down his cheeks as he cried out in despair.
“Let go…”
“Play with us a bit; you won’t lose anything.” What are you pretending for? You’ve already entered a place like this; don’t act like a saint while being a whre.*
“Please, let me go, alright?”
Seeing that the person in the seat of honor had no reaction, the few Alphas grew bolder. They crudely reached out and tore at the Omega’s clothes; the sound of fabric ripping was ear-piercingly unpleasant.
The youth struggled in terror, but it was useless. He was firmly pressed onto the sofa and floor by the Alphas.
The people around them either watched coldly or wore playful smiles.
In this nighttime bar, power was the rule. the struggles of the weak were nothing but a farce for people’s amusement.
No one dared to step forward to stop it. Everyone was accustomed to it, quietly admiring this act of violence.
The shimmering light of the crystal chandelier was still decadent, yet it was suddenly pierced by a cold shout.
“Be quiet.”
Xie Huaijin’s voice wasn’t loud, but the entire venue went instantly silent.
The Alphas who were tearing at the Omega’s clothes froze in place. The smiles on their faces solidified. They turned to look at the seat of honor and hurriedly released their hands, letting the disheveled Omega fall to the floor. They didn’t dare to stay for a single second.
Xie Huaijin ground the cigarette between his fingers into a crystal ashtray. The moment the sparks were extinguished, the irritability in his eyes grew even stronger.
He picked up the drink on the table and downed it in one go. The pungent liquid scorched his throat as he tried to numb himself.
Jiang Chenyan’s face was constantly surfacing in his mind uncontrollably.
Jumping from the shuttle, vanishing without a trace.
“All of you, get out.”
Xie Huaijin spoke again, his hostility almost overflowing.
The other Alphas were as if granted a general pardon, scrambling out of the VIP room, afraid they would meet with disaster if they were a second late. The Omega also tremblingly stood up, adjusted his shredded clothes, and quickly fled with his head lowered.
The bar owner hurried over with a fawning expression, cold sweat on his forehead. “Young Master Xie, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. it was our poor arrangement that left you unsatisfied. Don’t worry, we’ll rearrange things immediately. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied!”
Xie Huaijin had originally wanted to tell this man to get lost too, but the words reached his lips and he suddenly changed his mind.
“Fine.”
The owner stiffened, almost thinking he had misheard. He was stunned for half a second before reacting and smiling: “Good, good, good! Young Master Xie, please wait a moment. I’ll go arrange it personally. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied!”
After finishing, he didn’t dare to delay for a moment. He turned and ran out quickly, not even having time to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead.
Xie Huaijin leaned back on the sofa, his eyes indifferent as he swept over the people who were starting to trickle back in.
They were of all sorts—beautiful, but after looking for a long time, he only felt bored.
He lowered his eyes slightly, preparing to pour another drink to pass the time, when his peripheral vision caught a familiar figure.
A youth wearing a simple white shirt was walking toward him with his head lowered, led by a waiter.
the outline of that side profile, and the slightly furrowed brow when he lowered his head… it bore several points of resemblance to Jiang Chenyan.
Xie Huaijin’s heart gave a sudden leap. He stared fixedly at that figure, his breathing unconsciously growing shallow.
But as the youth gradually drew closer, he saw the other’s face clearly.
it wasn’t Jiang Chenyan.
The temperament was completely different. Looking closely, the features were also quite different. it was just that he looked a bit like him when he lowered his head.
Xie Huaijin’s eyes darkened. He leaned back on the sofa and picked up his glass again, downing the last bit of the drink.
it was just a similar shadow; it wasn’t worth him losing his composure like this.
Jiang Chenyan was already dead.
The owner was observant. He quickly noticed Xie Huaijin’s gaze landing on the youth. Overjoyed, he hurried forward and intimately draped his arm around the youth’s shoulder, leading him over.
“Young Master Xie, what do you think of this one? He has decent looks and a docile personality. If you like him…”
Xie Huaijin said nothing. He just stared down at the drink in his glass, his gaze as cold as ice.
The youth was a bit nervous. He instinctively shrunk behind the owner, not daring to lift his head.
The light-brain vibrated. Xie Huaijin knew it was a message from Qi Bai—a short sentence, intentionally meant to nauseate him.
[Are you going to attend Jiang Chenyan’s funeral?]
Xie Huaijin’s fingers tightened abruptly. The irritability in his eyes was replaced by rage.
He took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the anger in his heart. His fingertips tapped quickly on the screen as he replied with two words: [F*ck off.]
…
After Shen Shiyue left, only Jiang Chenyan and Kai Lan remained in the lab. Jiang Chenyan was leaning over, fiddling with parts on the table.
“Wait,” Kai Lan suddenly stopped his movements, his gaze fixed on the screen. “The Jiang family seems to be holding a funeral for you.”
His hand jerked, and the part between his fingers fell onto the table. Jiang Chenyan looked up. “A funeral?”
“Yes.” Kai Lan was between laughter and tears. “Are you going to attend?”
Jiang Chenyan’s mouth twitched. Attend my own funeral?
