Chapter 37: Identity Reveal 4
It was truly beyond comprehension. Ruan Zhimian pulled back his fingers from the other’s tight grip, his misty eyes reflecting confusion as if asking why Shi He would say such a thing.
He desperately wanted to pull Qiuqiu out and ask, but with Shi He present, Qiuqiu couldn’t manifest.
Perhaps the eye contact lasted a bit too long, for Ruan Zhimian eventually looked away and straightened his back unnaturally. “I won’t be in a relationship with you. This isn’t right. You’re not allowed to think like that.”
“We can be friends.”
The S-grade Alpha’s narrow, dark phoenix eyes glinted with a gloomy depth. His aura was exceptionally cold, and he didn’t respond at all. He was currently in the most dangerous middle stage of his susceptibility period, and the explosive S-grade amber pheromones within him were being suppressed by sheer force of will.
“Friends?”
The veins on his arm, hidden beneath his sleeve, bulged.
In many moments just now, Shi He had wanted to simply lock Ruan Zhimian away, ensuring he would only ever look at him.
“Baby, I’ll give you time to consider.”
“If the answer is a rejection, I’ll act as if I never heard it.”
Ruan Zhimian: “…”
Who was the one supposed to be the “lover” here? To be so self-righteous… what was the difference between saying it or not? He might as well not have asked.
The pheromone bracelet on his wrist was vibrating. Shi He looked down and coldly turned off the alert. He raised a hand to adjust the hearing aid on his right ear. “I’ve never been in a relationship. I only like you. If you’re unwilling, then compensate me with another Ruan Zhimian.”
In this world, there was only one Ruan Zhimian.
This statement was an unsolvable riddle.
A gust of wind blew outside, ruffling the curtains. Shi He looked over indifferently, his pitch-black eyes appearing to hold flickering starlight, yet also resembling a boundless ocean in the dark of night.
“It’s a rainy day today.”
It would rain in the afternoon.
Lately, it was the rainy season; rainy days were frequent.
Shi He’s world was one of pure silence, devoid of any sound.
When you observed him, you would be drawn in without hesitation, and by the time you realized it, you would already be trapped.
Shi He was no saint. The internal struggles of the Shi family were constant. After he returned to the country in his teens, he had even encountered many dangers.
Even though he was the heir to the Shi family, Old Master Shi only allowed him to inherit because of a decision his parents had made years ago.
If he were to die, no one in the Shi family would care.
During the years he grew up alone abroad, Shi He had participated in the most rigorous training. He had lived in the jungle alone for ten days.
Even Gu Xici hadn’t participated in such harsh environments.
Only Shi He had gone alone.
By now, Shi He was long accustomed to keeping everything under his control. There weren’t many members of the Shi family left now; a few had fallen into the sea after going out, and some had suffered “accidents” and could no longer stand.
Except for Ruan Zhimian.
He was a complete accident, beyond any control, and the only accident Shi He allowed.
The little black snake hissed as it appeared, approaching Ruan Zhimian and coiling around his arm in an exceptionally clingy manner.
“Hiss, hiss.”
The tip of the little black snake’s tail curled up, pointing defiantly at its master.
It looked as if it were saying, “Heh, you got rejected again.”
Shi He’s gaze slid down from the arm. He lowered his eyes with a gentle, warm expression, his cold, white, slender fingers curling slightly as he gently tidied Ruan Zhimian’s hem, suppressing all his dark thoughts.
Ruan Zhimian liked this gentle expression best, and it was also what drew him in most.
If it could win Ruan Zhimian’s affection, he could become like this. As for what his true self was like, even he himself didn’t care.
“I missed you very much. Every day, I wanted to come back early to see you.”
“Mianmian, I’ve always hated the rain.”
Ruan Zhimian was still thinking about the weather.
Upon hearing this, his thick, curled eyelashes trembled a few times. “Rain makes you unhappy.”
Shi He, however, told him, “From the day you appeared, I began to hate the rain a little less.”
The waiter knocked on the door, bringing a slice of exquisite blueberry cake and closing the window for them.
“This is the cafe’s specialty. Try it.”
Ruan Zhimian lowered his head and picked up a fork. He liked blueberries. “Aren’t you eating?”
“I don’t eat cake.”
Ruan Zhimian picked up the menu, but since Shi He said he didn’t want to eat, he thought for a bit and pulled a piece of candy from his pocket—the kind he ate after taking medicine.
Shi He gripped it in his palm. “This is enough.”
Fifteen minutes later, after finishing the small cake, he held a glass of juice with curving eyes.
Shi He really wanted to kiss him.
But he couldn’t kiss him too many times, or he would get angry now.
Shi He watched him unmovingly, his long, well-defined fingers taking a napkin to wipe the cream from the corner of the other’s mouth.
Advancing by retreating, he launched a stealthy maneuver.
“Can we talk on the phone tonight?”
This sentence sounded almost like he was acting spoiled.
Wait, how could he act spoiled?
Ruan Zhimian forcibly steered the conversation back to his own topic. “I said… I reject you…”
Unexpectedly, the Alpha suddenly lowered his head before him, clutching his fingers. His phoenix eyes showed a hint of sadness, making him look like a dejected large dog.
“We haven’t broken up.”
It was as if he were saying, Please pay attention to me.
Right, he hadn’t had the chance to say the words “break up.” His dark, soft, and obedient eyes were completely drawn in, and he gave a very slight nod.
He probably didn’t see it…
Why did he nod…
Ruan Zhimian tried to save face. “Can you still not sleep at night?”
“Mhm. I haven’t had much rest time lately.”
Ruan Zhimian was soft-hearted to begin with, and hearing this made him even more so. The topic of breaking up was completely thrown to the back of his mind.
“We can talk, but for five minutes at most.”
What answered him was the Alpha’s slow, deliberate question. In a place Ruan Zhimian couldn’t see, his eyes were dark and menacing. “Can I kiss you one more time before we part?”
Shi He cupped his cheeks with both hands. The kiss descended softly, like a marshmallow, so gentle that Ruan Zhimian’s hand, which had been prepared to reject him, inexplicably dropped.
This kiss was meticulous and clingy.
Half an hour later, the good-tempered young master sat in a private car with a cold face and large sunglasses, his lips visibly reddened.
He looked angry, but in reality, his head was a mess.
“Hmph.”
Shi He lifted his eyelids. He leaned down by the car door to fasten Ruan Zhimian’s seatbelt. “Mianmian, I’ll pick you up at eight tomorrow morning to go back to school.”
By the end of the kissing, he had dizzily agreed to return to school.
This time, Shi He said he would give him twenty hours.
The car door slowly closed. Shi He stood by the roadside, waiting until the car vanished before opening another car door and sitting inside. He casually opened his phone and saw that the vehicle was heading toward the city center.
Wait, why did he have to listen to Shi He? Why did he have to follow his lead?
Ruan Zhimian reacted belatedly. He had even been kissed so many times—it was a complete waste of a trip! A person could break up alone!
Coincidentally, Teng Yu called, inviting him out to play that evening.
The frustrated “little cat” lowered his head and, in a fit of pique, agreed exceptionally fast. “You’re going to a bar? I’m coming.”
At 9:00 PM, Huajiang was brightly lit. Inside a noisy, bustling bar, a beautiful, soft beauty sat in a private booth. With a cold face, he picked up a glass of low-alcohol liquor and downed it. An Alpha sat a meter away, staring at him with burning eyes.
Shen Ziyu said, “Zhimian, don’t drink so much.”
“I know things haven’t been great between you and Han He’an lately, but you don’t need to be sad over someone like him.”
This photo was sent to Shi He the moment Ruan Zhimian drank his first glass.
The Alphas outside had long been coveting him, circling around, but they couldn’t get close due to the S-grade Alpha pheromones on Ruan Zhimian’s body—Shen Ziyu was the same.
Teng Yu touched his forehead in confusion. “Mianmian, what’s wrong with you?”
Ruan Zhimian tilted his head and leaned on his shoulder, his voice angry yet cute. “All Alphas are bad people.”
Teng Yu shared the sentiment. “Bad people!”
Ruan Zhimian downed three glasses in a row and dizzily pulled out his phone. “I’m not answering his calls anymore.”
He said in a tiny voice, “I’m going to break up with him.”
The Alpha whose name had just been mentioned appeared in the bar, dressed in a suit and surrounded by a faint scent of tobacco, having just rushed over from the company.
Shi He leaned down and pulled the person into his embrace. “Baby, whose calls do you not want to answer?”
“Answer me. Is it mine?”
