Chapter 75: The Gears of Fate Veered Off Course
Gu Xingcheng picked up the coffee cup and took a sip.
“I feel that he has indeed changed,” he said.
“He told me that between lovers, there must first be mutual respect, understanding, and tolerance.”
“This doesn’t sound like something he could say, so I feel he has indeed done some reflecting and gaining of insight during this period.”
Gu Xinglan suppressed a smile and squeezed Qin Wan’s hand under the table.
“Mn. He might have been inspired by someone and thought things through.” As he spoke, his eyes were brilliant.
Qin Wan lowered his head slightly.
He hadn’t expected that a simple sentence of his would actually form a closed loop among three young masters of wealthy families.
These sons of the nobility usually were either busy with the struggle for money and power or caught up in the pursuit of sensual pleasure, knowing very little about the simple emotions of ordinary people.
Gu Xinglan spoke, “Since that’s the case, why not give him a chance?”
Gu Xingcheng didn’t answer, lightly stirring the coffee in the cup with a small spoon.
After chatting for a while longer, Gu Xinglan took Qin Wan and left.
Jiang City.
Sheng Villa.
Sheng Siyue sat on the sofa in his study.
He smoked one cigarette after another.
The spacious and luxurious room was now shrouded in a thin layer of white mist.
But the slowly rising mist still could not suppress the restlessness that kept surging in his heart.
Human emotions were just that complex.
Over the past five years, he had forced himself to endure, telling himself not to act rashly or impulsively.
Every day he had to convince himself that Qin Wan and Rong Yi had those two million and should be living quite well.
Though it was painful and hard to bear, he had made it through.
But ever since he and Qin Wan had an encounter across the air in that restaurant…
Though they hadn’t met, the thought that “he is so close yet unreachable” had popped up, and his longing became like a flood that had broken through a dam—no longer possible to restrain.
Regarding Qin Wan, deep in his heart, he actually harbored very contradictory feelings.
From the moment Qin Wan first stepped through the gates of this villa at age four, the gears of fate seemed to have begun veering off their course.
At that time, he was six, a head taller than Qin Wan.
Looking at this fair, tender, but thin and weak child calling him “Second Brother” timidly, his first reaction was that he was very cute and he liked him very much.
But Sheng Siyue was a person who kept his emotions very internalized, even from a young age.
He liked Qin Wan, but he wouldn’t show it on his face.
His expression was always neutral, and he spoke very little.
So when Qin Wan first arrived, he liked to follow behind the lively and cheerful Eldest Brother, Sheng Sinian, who loved to talk and laugh.
Sheng Sinian was nine at the time and was also very good-looking.
He was tall, already half a body taller than Qin Wan.
So he could really give him the security of a big brother.
However, before a month had passed, Qin Wan learned the prowess of this big brother.
Within the wealthy Sheng family, because the patriarch Sheng Hang was a profligate womanizer, the relationships between the staff were somewhat complex.
The mistress of the Sheng family, Mrs. Sheng, was Sheng Hang’s first wife. She was from a high-society family and had given birth to the eldest son, Sheng Sinian.
Sheng Siyue was born to a mistress. His biological mother’s family was also very well-off, and she was half a best friend to Mrs. Sheng.
So Mrs. Sheng, though she didn’t like them, didn’t excessively make things difficult for them.
However, Qin Wan’s biological mother was from the lower-class labor force. She had met Sheng Hang while working as a waitress in a restaurant.
After Sheng Hang became infatuated with her beauty for a one-night stand, Qin Wan was born.
Qin Wan’s biological mother had a strong personality and didn’t want to be a rich man’s mistress, so she raised the child on her own.
It wasn’t until she became seriously ill and could no longer look after little Qin Wan that she sent him to the Sheng family.
Mrs. Sheng could do nothing about Sheng Siyue and his mother, so her full resentment and fury were vented upon Qin Wan.
The fact that she had to allow Sheng Siyue and his mother to split the family assets in the future was already a result of helplessness. She would absolutely not allow another “wild seed” to come and take a share.
So from the first day Qin Wan entered the Sheng family, Mrs. Sheng and Sheng Sinian had reached an agreement.
They had to keep Qin Wan firmly in their grasp.
They couldn’t let him run away, but they couldn’t let him have a good life either.
It would be best if, without anyone noticing, he died from a small accident.
Even if he didn’t die, making him mentally unstable and turning him into a lunatic would be excellent.
Thus followed their various inhuman abuses of Qin Wan.
The biological father, Sheng Hang, had no feelings for this child who returned halfway through life anyway.
Furthermore, he was busy with company matters every day and left everything regarding Qin Wan to Mrs. Sheng to handle.
So even though Qin Wan lived a life worse than death every day, the Sheng family paid him no mind.
Except, of course, for Sheng Siyue and the servant Zhou Rong.
Sheng Siyue had disliked talking since he was a child, but his mind was sharp, and he saw every matter clearly.
From the first time Qin Wan was bullied, he tried to protect this poor little brother.
As he grew older, he could do more for Qin Wan.
Among the servants, Rong Yi was one of the few with a kind heart.
So he and Rong Yi worked together, doing their utmost to carve out a safe zone for little Qin Wan where he could catch his breath and settle down.
During the summer vacation when Qin Wan was twelve, Sheng Siyue’s mother took him back to his grandmother’s house for a short stay.
He was only away for three days when something happened.
That bastard Sheng Sinian attempted to assault Qin Wan and had his palm pierced by a pair of scissors.
Qin Wan ran away.
At a young age, and with no money.
Before a day had passed, he was caught and brought back by Mrs. Sheng’s people.
Sheng Sinian was afraid that if his mother knew he had filthy thoughts about a boy, he would be scolded, so he didn’t dare say the injury on his hand was caused by Qin Wan. He only said he had accidentally injured himself.
For the punishment of Qin Wan running away alone, they broke his leg.
Then they threw him into the basement and didn’t allow anyone near.
Rong Yi truly had no other way and secretly made an international call to Sheng Siyue.
Sheng Siyue flew back overnight from his grandmother’s house abroad. When he saw the nearly dying Qin Wan in the basement, he felt as if the sky had fallen.
Like a madman, he picked Qin Wan up, rushed out of the house, ran to the hospital, and found the best doctor to set his bone and treat his injury.
He was only fourteen at the time, but he supported a sky for Qin Wan.
Fortunately, the treatment was timely.
Qin Wan’s injury slowly healed. Aside from leaving a scar on his leg, he didn’t end up with a disability.
From that time on, Sheng Siyue had been pondering. He had to find a way to let Qin Wan completely escape the devilish clutches of the Sheng family mother and son.
Sheng Siyue had been meticulous since he was a child and had incredibly strong execution skills.
After that, he locked himself in his study, researching materials day and night.
No one knew what he was studying.
Except for when he went out to collect packages, or went to the basement to chat with Qin Wan, his figure was rarely seen in the villa.
Until one day.
After Mrs. Sheng returned to her room after breakfast in the morning, her asthma flared up.
The asthma spray that was usually kept right at hand had mysteriously vanished.
Mrs. Sheng collapsed on the floor, clutching her neck, without a single breath left.
The Sheng family was thrown into chaos instantly.
Sheng Sinian and the butler, and others were busy sending her to the hospital for emergency rescue.
At the same time, Zhou Rong took Qin Wan and got on a ferry in the middle of the river.
However, when the boat was about to reach the other shore, a small explosion occurred.
Dozens of people were on the boat. Although some fell into the water, there were no casualties.
Only Qin Wan and Zhou Rong disappeared without a trace.
Since then, Qin Wan has completely disappeared from the sight of the Sheng family.
