Chapter 119: Working to Spend Money
When he arrived home, Ji Shuohan was already back, currently in the kitchen helping the chef prepare dinner. Ye Zhile looked at him curiously. “How did you get back so early? And you’re even making dinner?”
“I thought about our little grown-up’s first day of his internship, so I wanted to make him something delicious as a bit of encouragement.” As he spoke, Ji Shuohan plated the stir-fried Wasabi Giant River Prawns.
Ye Zhile walked over and hugged him, leaning in close. “Thank you, Leader. You’re the best~”
Ji Shuohan patted his head. “Go wash your hands. Dinner is almost ready.”
“Okay.”
At the dining table, Ji Shuohan placed some food in his bowl. “How did it feel?”
“It was pretty good,” Ye Zhile said. “DDTV is so grand. I even saw the famous host Rong Mo today; he’s leading our group.”
“Tomorrow is the first actual day of the internship. I assume they’ll have you shadow the staff?” Ji Shuohan asked.
Ye Zhile nodded. “Mhm. Tomorrow, every group will follow the veteran employees to observe.”
Early the next morning, Ji Shuohan dropped Ye Zhile off at the company on his way to work. Seeing Ye Zhile still carrying a backpack, he teased, “Others look like office workers, but you look like an elementary student.”
“You’re the elementary student!” Ye Zhile turned and glared at him. Just as he was about to get out of the car, Ji Shuohan pulled him back. “You forgot again…”
Ye Zhile sat back down with a grin, leaned in, and kissed him. “See you tonight, Leader.”
“See you tonight, baby,” Ji Shuohan returned the kiss.
Once inside the company, Ye Zhile found everyone waiting for the elevator. Their gazes unanimously fell upon him. Ye Zhile simply smiled, pretending to be nonchalant as he waited with them.
“Ye Zhile.” One of the girls from Group 8 leaned in, gossiping, “Was that car just now the Leader’s?”
Ye Zhile nodded but didn’t say anything.
“Heavens, seeing the Leader’s escort motorcade on the first day of the internship!”
“I’m so jealous. If I were the Leader’s spouse, I’d be at home enjoying life long ago.”
“Ye Zhile, why do you even bother coming out to work?”
“…” Ye Zhile frowned. Did people these days really gossip right in front of the person involved?
“Forget it. Can’t you see he doesn’t want to talk to you? Why keep pestering him?”
Ye Zhile turned back to look at that person, giving a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Because I have too much money. Working allows me to spend it.”
Just then, the elevator arrived. Ye Zhile was the first to step out, leaving a silenced group behind him.
At noon, Ye Zhile told Leng Xingtu about the incident. The two of them sat in the leisure area by the floor-to-ceiling windows. Ye Zhile laughed as he recounted the story, and Leng Xingtu was also in stitches. Shortly after, Leng Xingtu cursed, “Those people are way too gossipy. What, if you have money you’re supposed to just lose your ambition? What nonsense!”
“Hahaha… I just thought the way they fell silent in the elevator after I said that was too funny. Haha…” Ye Zhile laughed.
“Well, obviously. Others come to work for a career or for money. You, a rich and powerful young master, come to work to ‘spend money’—it’s enough to annoy them to death.” Leng Xingtu took a leisurely sip of his coffee.
“That’s what they get for talking like that.” Ye Zhile chuckled. “The feeling of a one-hit-kill retort is actually pretty satisfying!”
“Right? You should learn more from me in the future.” Leng Xingtu raised an eyebrow.
The two spent a coffee break in the leisure area before returning to their respective groups. In the afternoon, they were to shadow reporters on field assignments. Rong Mo first had them observe the standard process before they attempted a simulation.
“Before an interview, we first understand relevant information about the interviewee. Age and gender go without saying, but the most important thing is their experiences. Based on those experiences, we determine the interview script and the format of the interview…” Rong Mo said. “Pay close attention to the entire interview later. If you can keep up, take notes. They will serve as a reference for you later.”
“Understood, Teacher Rong.”
Ye Zhile packed his notebook and the materials they were just given into his backpack, then followed behind his group members.
Ye Zhile never expected that the interview location would be the Military Department! The interviewee was Gu Yueming—his second brother’s subordinate!
Ye Zhile followed the interview team. The photographer held the camera while the interviewing reporter was very experienced. The whole team communicated harmoniously. The interview took place in Gu Yueming’s office.
Gu Yueming recognized him at a glance and walked over. “Long time no see, little brother.”
“Brother Yueming, long time no see.” Ye Zhile smiled. “When I saw the name in the files, it felt so familiar. I thought it was just someone with the same name. I didn’t expect it to be you.”
“Ha! Don’t even mention it!” Gu Yueming whispered to him, “The person they actually wanted to interview was your second brother. But he didn’t want to do it, so he sent me to take the bullet. The Military Department has been lacking some celebrity-style deeds lately, so I had no choice but to step up.”
Ye Zhile laughed. “So you really do listen to my second brother that much?”
“I have to. He’s my superior.” Gu Yueming looked helpless. He then asked, “By the way, are you the one interviewing me?”
“No, I’m just an intern,” Ye Zhile said.
“That’s a real shame,” Gu Yueming said regretfully.
“It’s okay, there will be other chances.”
“Please, no.” Gu Yueming’s face was full of rejection. “I don’t want to be on camera ever again. Next time, go interview your eldest or second brother. If you just act a little spoiled, they’ll definitely agree to an interview.”
“Hahaha…”
As the two were chatting and laughing, the call to start came from the other side. Ye Zhile found a spot to watch, taking out his notebook and pen. He also observed the photographer’s recording process.
The office was filled only with the sounds of the interview and the camera shutter. The female reporter had a kind smile and a gentle tone. Gu Yueming also discarded his usual playful personality, answering seriously and formally. After all, he was representing the image of the Military Department; he couldn’t afford to mess around.
During the interview, the interviewee’s privacy is respected, so the questions are vetted beforehand. DDTV is not an entertainment station but represents the image of the Empire. Therefore, they cannot engage in deceptive editing or random questioning; they must seek the truth from facts.
The interview lasted for half an hour. When it concluded, they prepared to pack up and head back. Leaving Gu Yueming’s office, Ye Zhile spotted his second brother—tall, long-legged, and incredibly handsome in his military uniform.
“Yo~” Ye Zhichen spotted him too, looking him up and down. “You look the part. You actually look like an adult now.”
“Don’t I look impressive?” Ye Zhile asked him. As soon as Ye Zhichen nodded, he said, “Then next time I have an interview requirement, how about I interview you?”
Ye Zhichen stopped laughing. “Go find Big Brother. He looks amazing on camera!”
“You’re very handsome too…” Ye Zhile was about to act spoiled when he suddenly realized something. He smiled meaningfully. “Are you trying to save the chance to be on camera for Xingtu? Hmm?”
“As long as you know.” Ye Zhichen acted mysterious. The two brothers shared a knowing smile. Ye Zhile could only say, “Fine then, I’ll go interview Big Brother!”
