Chapter 2 Gaia: I’ve never heard such an outrageous request in my life.
Ten years later.
Li Riyue took a plane to Cangnan City, bought a local Jianbing Guozi, and leisurely made his way to the battlefield. There, he saw an old acquaintance.
The other party was floating in mid-air, holding a glowing parchment, excitedly doing who knew what.
Eating his Jianbing Guozi with one hand, Li Riyue raised the other, looked at the ‘person’ holding the parchment, and said,
“Please shake my hand.”
The other party seemed to hear Li Riyue’s voice. Her smile froze for five seconds, and with a swoosh, she teleported right in front of Li Riyue and grasped his hand.
Li Riyue was exceptionally happy to see an old acquaintance. He waved his Jianbing Guozi and said,
“Long time no see, I missed you a lot. Are you here to play in Da Xia?”
[Mother of Earth Gaia: …Why is he here!]
Seeing the parchment, Li Riyue recalled the plot. He took a bite of his Jianbing Guozi and curiously leaned over, just in time to see the characters for “Cangnan” appearing stroke by stroke.
Li Riyue paused his eating, sized her up, and snatched the parchment away. He looked left and right, up and down, to confirm if it was the real deal. Then, he saw that the moment the entire word “Cangnan” finished writing, his body gradually began to disappear, only to recover completely in less than a second.
Only then did Li Riyue realize it was real, because he had just accidentally killed himself.
His current mood was very complicated. He hadn’t wanted to get involved with the protagonist, but now, just like Chen Muye, he had to rely on the miracle created by the Fanchen Shenyu to stay alive.
He gripped the parchment tightly and glared fiercely at Gaia. Was he very angry, sad, depressed, or wanting to cry at this moment? Well, none of the above. He was just feeling a bit lamentful; he had earned so much money and hadn’t even enjoyed it enough before he was about to be gone.
Being stared at, Gaia’s entire divine being felt uncomfortable, giving off a sensation of sweating bullets. But looking at the parchment, she braced herself and knelt.
“My Lord! I didn’t expect you to be here! I listened to the words of the current God King of Asgard and came to kill the humans who would blaspheme the gods in the future by writing Cangnan with the Shipo Yuan. I didn’t mean to murder you!”
There was no other reason. In Gaia’s field of vision, the Li Riyue standing before her was an absolute monster. Setting aside that outrageous handshake, just her keen divine perception told her that Li Riyue’s realm was even higher than she could have imagined.
Ye Fan, who had rushed over, saw Li Riyue holding the parchment with Gaia kneeling beside him. The corner of his mouth twitched as he spoke:
“Xiao Li! Kill her, and I’ll give you a hundred thousand!”
Upon hearing this, Gaia’s entire body stiffened. She looked up at Ye Fan, her eyes filled with boundless fury.
The moment Li Riyue heard “a hundred thousand,” he immediately extended his hand. Under Gaia’s confused gaze, he uttered the most vicious words:
“Please commit suicide and then shake my hand.”
[Gaia’s bitter smile: I’ve never heard such an outrageous request in my life. That day, my body actually moved faster than my brain. Listening to his words, it was fucking outrageous!]
Holding the parchment and dragging Gaia’s corpse, Li Riyue quickly ran over to Ye Fan and said:
“It’s a deal! One hundred thousand!”
Ye Fan rubbed his forehead, looking at Gaia’s corpse and then at the parchment.
“One hundred thousand, not a penny less than promised. So, what do you plan to do with this loot of yours?”
“I have to keep it. I got hit by it too. I need to figure out a solution.”
Ye Fan’s expression was complicated. A hundred thousand was a trivial matter; anything that could be resolved with money or external resources was easy. But he hadn’t expected to lose an existence at the ceiling of humanity over this.
Ye Fan patted Li Riyue’s shoulder.
“Don’t be afraid, we will all stay by your side.”
“I’m not exactly afraid of anything. After all, I have no father and no mother. My only lingering concern is that Chen Fuzi hasn’t taken this black bracelet off me yet! And that kid—without me, he’ll still get bullied! I don’t know how long this miracle can last, and what will happen to him when I’m gone.”
“…Alright, let’s head back first. The aura of the Shipo Yuan must be properly sealed, or the Outer Gods will come again.”
Ultimately, the Shipo Yuan was handed over to Chen Muye. Every so often, Li Riyue would take a trip to Cangnan, for no other reason than to check on Lin Qiye. He, too, was surviving by relying on a miracle right now. Although Lin Qiye didn’t know about this, Li Riyue still wanted to do everything within his power.
For example, secretly bringing Lin Qiye back home for a visit every time he came. After all, the Zhenxu Stele couldn’t suppress him, and the black bracelet on his wrist was made directly from the Zhenxu Stele.
It had a tracking device on it, which was exactly why he wanted to take it off. Brute-forcing it open definitely wouldn’t work, otherwise Chen Fuzi would give him a harsh scolding.
To some extent, it was out of their good intentions. Over these ten years, only he and Chen Fuzi had stayed by Ye Fan’s side. Chen Fuzi had to guard the Zhaijie Suo, while he occupied the position of being the sharp blade at Ye Fan’s side.
To be honest, his past ten years had been quite a daze. He had absolutely no idea what he was earning money for. He always talked about earning money, but he was an orphan; so what if he made money?
Spend it on himself?
One person spending this much money was enough for a lifetime.
But on his way back from dealing with a mystic, he had encountered a child being bullied by a group of kids. He helped out in passing, but every time after that, he would see scenes of the other party being bullied. What could he do?
Just watch and do nothing?
Know exactly what was happening and turn a blind eye?
That was impossible, alright!
So he helped, and he kept helping for ten years.
First, it was family issues, then it was school bullying issues. Because of this, Ye Fan even caught onto his tracks and sarcastically mocked him for quite a few days.
Nowadays, no one mocked him anymore. As Lin Qiye grew up day by day, his own life had also begun its countdown.
Sitting in the training camp, eating a Jianbing Guozi, he watched the scene of the recruits’ grand escape.
Yuan Gang looked at him acting like this. Recalling that five years had passed since the Battle of the Gods, he hesitated for a moment before speaking.
“How about you go scold the recruits and vent the frustrations in your heart?”
“They are recruits, the future Shouyeren, not punching bags. Vent what? Once they all lose, I’ll restore the training grounds, help investigate the people from the Gushen Jiaohui for a few days, and then I’ll leave.”
“Just let that person wait two more days. You aren’t a necessity in his life anyway.”
“I’m worried. Do you know what it feels like to be bullied? Do you know the feeling of being bullied and then indifferently ignored by your family? Do you know?”
“Alright, alright, alright, I don’t know. Go when you need to go. But that’s a week from now anyway. There’s a Divine Proxy among this batch of recruit training, do you want to take a look?”
“What’s there to look at? I’m not taking disciples. Turning back time comes with a price. He doesn’t have a special constitution like me that grants eternal youth. Those who play with time will eventually be played by time.”
“If he can become truly capable, try sharing some of your bloodline with him and see if it can grant him immortality.”
“So you were waiting for me here, huh? Making me look at people, making me understand them… all of this is just trying to make me soft-hearted, isn’t it?”
“This isn’t my idea; it’s the Commander’s intention!”
Li Riyue said no more. After all, over this period, just the number of times he had sneaked Lin Qiye out of the mental hospital had been covered up entirely with Ye Fan’s help.
Presumably, Ye Fan was afraid he didn’t have much time left and wanted him to contribute one last bit of effort.
His bloodline wasn’t anything special; his lifespan was just a bit longer, and its only unique trait was that he didn’t age. He didn’t even know where this bloodline came from. It was only discovered after he came into contact with Xia Simeng initially.
Ye Fan had wanted him to go get it examined, but he flatly refused. Because this bloodline, at most, merely retained his youthful appearance and extended his lifespan a bit; it wasn’t true immortality.
Looking at the footage on the monitors, Xia Simeng flashed a V-sign at the camera. It seemed it was over.
Following behind the instructors, Li Riyue gnawed on his Jianbing Guozi, his mental energy expanding to sense and search for any suspicious personnel in the surroundings.
Translator’s Note:
Wow, Gaia really just gave up without a fight! 🤣 To help clarify some of the cool terms dropped in this chapter, here’s your cheat sheet:
- Shipo Yuan (濕婆怨): Directly translates to “Shiva’s Resentment.” In this context, it’s a terrifying divine artifact capable of erasing entire cities or existences.
- Fanchen Shenyu (凡塵神域): The Mortal Divine Domain. A domain or miracle space that sustains the existence of those within it.
- Chen Fuzi (陳夫子): Master Chen. “Fuzi” is a highly respectful title for a scholar, master, or teacher.
- Zhenxu Stele (鎮墟碑): The Stele that Suppresses the Ruins. A powerful artifact capable of locking down or suppressing abilities and entities. Li Riyue’s annoying bracelet is made of this!
- Zhaijie Suo (齋戒所): The Fasting Center or Penitentiary. A highly guarded prison/facility for dangerous mystics and entities.
- Gushen Jiaohui (古神教會): The Ancient God Church. The major antagonistic cult faction serving the Outer Gods.
