Chapter 44: I Just Know How That Feels
On Fu Yue’s laptop screen, a pixel-art brown bear began to run clumsily forward in time with the rhythm of the music.
In front of it was a series of colorful mushroom obstacles of varying heights.
Thump.
The little bear crashed headfirst into the first mushroom, falling flat on its back with several spinning stars appearing over its head.
This small event seemed to flip a switch.
The young girl, who had been completely immersed in her own world, finally raised her head slowly.
A faint glimmer flickered in her beautiful eyes, landing on the silly, cute little bear.
Chen Bai held his breath, and even the nurse standing nearby showed a look of surprise.
All of Fu Yue’s attention was currently focused on the girl.
He tapped the touchpad gently. On the screen, the bear wobbled as it stood up, patted the dust off its bottom, and continued running.
This time, before it reached the next mushroom, a flashing finger icon appeared on the screen, pointing at the bear.
The girl’s gaze followed the icon and landed on the bear.
Her fingers curled slightly, as if she wanted to reach out and tap the icon.
Just at this hopeful moment, a stern voice rang out.
“Sir, please stop immediately.”
Fu Yue looked up and saw a woman in her forties walking toward them.
The woman wore a head nurse’s uniform, her hair pulled back into a meticulous bun, and she wore a pair of red plastic-framed glasses.
Her brows were tightly furrowed as she walked in front of Fu Yue, blocking the line of sight between him and the girl.
“We do not recommend using electronic products to stimulate patients,” the head nurse said in an authoritative tone. “What she needs is absolute quiet and professional guidance, not these things that will make her addicted.”
“But, Head Nurse Zhang, the doctor said she could play small electronic games,” Chen Bai said, looking confused. “Look, Sister Muyu has shown a reaction of interest…”
“A reaction?” Head Nurse Zhang coldly interrupted Chen Bai.
Her gaze swept over Muyu’s face, which was indeed showing interest, and her tone became even harsher.
“She might have a reaction now, but who will be responsible if her emotions spiral out of control later?”
That final “who will be responsible” felt like a needle pricking Fu Yue’s heart.
He slowly closed his laptop and stood up.
“Heh,” Fu Yue let out a cold laugh.
The smile did not reach his eyes.
“Is your so-called ‘quiet’ meant to keep her living in her shell forever, just to make your management easier?”
When Fu Yue said this, his gentle eyes became sharp.
Even Chen Bai, standing to the side, felt that Fu Yue was completely different from his usual self.
Head Nurse Zhang subconsciously took a half-step back. “I just don’t want her to get overexcited, and I don’t want to watch certain people putting on a show.”
She emphasized the word “show.”
“You don’t want her emotions to fluctuate,” Fu Yue’s voice was imposing. “Is it because you truly care about her, or because you find it troublesome to communicate with her?”
Behind the red-framed glasses, the head nurse’s eyes flickered violently.
Her lips moved, but she couldn’t say a single word.
The activity room fell into a dead silence.
Head Nurse Zhang’s brow furrowed, seemingly afraid to challenge Fu Yue, who had seen right through her.
She turned around, pulled a phone from her pocket, and walked away while making a call.
“Security, come to the activity room…”
Seeing the situation, Chen Bai hurried to Fu Yue’s side, his voice worried. “Young Master Fu, the old head nurse just retired. This Nurse Zhang was recently transferred here. They say she’s very formidable and no one dares to cross her. We… we might be in trouble.”
“It’s fine. I’ll handle whatever happens,” Fu Yue replied decisively.
After speaking, Fu Yue glanced at the retreating back of the head nurse. It was as if he were speaking to Chen Bai, but also to himself. “I just know what it feels like to be treated that way.”
For a moment, his thoughts drifted back to the distant real world.
In his childhood, he had also been a forgotten shadow.
His relatives would gather and look at him with pitying eyes: “That child has no parents. He’s autistic. Leave him alone; it’s better to let him be by himself.”
In reality, Fu Yue just hadn’t liked talking because he was losing his baby teeth at the time.
But no one cared about his inner world. Only an old computer became his sole childhood companion.
Fu Yue shook his head to dispel the thoughts.
Beside him, the girl was blinking, looking expectantly at the laptop in his hand.
Fu Yue smiled slightly and crouched down in front of her again.
On the screen, the little bear was blinking its innocent big eyes.
“Look, it’s waiting for you. Do you want to help the bear jump?”
Fu Yue’s voice was as gentle as water.

A very soft laugh escaped the girl’s lips. She looked up at Chen Bai.

The door to the activity room was pushed open violently, hitting the wall with a piercing sound.

Head Nurse Zhang had returned, followed by two burly security guards, entering aggressively.
“That’s them! They are disrupting the order of the sanatorium and refusing to listen to advice. Remove them immediately!” Head Nurse Zhang pointed at Fu Yue and Chen Bai.
The sudden change was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

Unable to bear it, the girl burst into a heartbreaking cry.
Seeing Muyu like this, Chen Bai hurried over to comfort her.
Fu Yue was already fuming. He hissed at the head nurse, “Are you crazy? Can’t you see you’ve terrified her!”
“Terrified?” Looking at the crying girl, Head Nurse Zhang felt no guilt; instead, she looked triumphant.

“Security, take them out,” Head Nurse Zhang pointed at them.
Right then, a cool, calm voice came from the doorway.
“What is going on here?”
Everyone turned around.
A tall man walked in.
He was wearing a well-tailored navy-blue coat with a sailor collar. He had broad shoulders and long legs, radiating an intimidating aura. Behind his gold-rimmed glasses were sharp eyes currently scanning the scene.
The newcomer was Pei Luomian.
When he saw the girl huddled in the corner, shaking and crying, his aura dropped to freezing point. His gaze was as cold as polar ice.
Upon seeing him, Head Nurse Zhang immediately put on a victimized expression.
“Director Pei, you’re finally here!”
She stepped forward quickly to speak first. “I reported to you earlier that this gentleman refused to listen to advice and used electronic products to forcibly stimulate Miss Muyu.”
At this point, Head Nurse Zhang even pretended to wipe the corner of her eye. “Miss Muyu lost control of her emotions because of the two of them! I… I really tried my best!”
Chen Bai’s heart sank to the bottom.
It was over. There were witnesses and evidence, his sister was crying—they wouldn’t be able to clear their names even if they jumped into the Yellow River.
Pei Luomian’s gaze, like a sharp blade, bypassed everyone and landed directly on Fu Yue.
“Director Pei,” Chen Bai subconsciously blocked Fu Yue, “It’s not like that. Listen to me, the truth is…”
However, facing Pei Luomian, Fu Yue was unusually calm.
He slowly reached out and closed the laptop in front of him.

Head Nurse Zhang’s eyes grew even more triumphant. She knew she had won.

He took long strides, walking toward Fu Yue step by step. Chen Bai’s expression grew increasingly tense.
Finally, Pei Luomian stopped in front of Fu Yue, his powerful aura fully unleashed.
Then, the words he spoke were enough to make Head Nurse Zhang fall into despair.
“Fu Yue, Chen Bai.”
Pei Luomian lowered his head and said seriously, “I am very sorry. This was due to my poor management. I will handle this matter strictly.”
Then, he crouched down, a heartbreaking tenderness and self-reproach appearing on his face.
“Muyu, I’m sorry. Brother came late.” He gently patted the girl’s trembling back.
As it turned out, this girl was Pei Luomian’s younger sister. No wonder Fu Yue thought she looked familiar; she shared seventy percent of her brother’s features, having inherited the Pei family’s ancestral beauty.
It made sense.
Fu Yue remembered Pei Luomian saying he wanted to study psychology in his early years; it must have been because of his sister.
“Director Pei, it was clearly those two young masters…” Head Nurse Zhang realized Fu Yue and Chen Bai weren’t simple people, but she still wanted to struggle.
Pei Luomian looked up again, his eyes returning to their icy state.
He looked at the head nurse and spoke coldly, “To prevent internal staff from committing acts that disgrace medical ethics—”
Pei Luomian pointed to the security camera in the corner. “Besides those cameras, all public areas have backup cameras.”
“Perhaps if I go to the security room, I’ll find that the footage from the last ten minutes is missing.” Pei Luomian raised his phone. “But, I have already seen everything on my phone.”
Those words caused the color to drain completely from Head Nurse Zhang’s face in an instant.
Her body swayed, and she could barely remain standing.
Just now, she had considered everything and taken the opportunity to tamper with the footage in the security room.
But this Director Pei had anticipated her move.
She never expected this damned sanatorium to have backup cameras directly linked to the director’s phone.
In the end, it was the limp and powerless head nurse who was taken away by security.
Ten minutes later, in the lounge of the sanatorium’s administration building.
The area was quiet and private, with the faint aroma of Da Hong Pao tea floating in the air.
The tense atmosphere from before had vanished.
Pei Luomian personally poured a cup of tea for both Fu Yue and Chen Bai, his posture elegant and sincere. “I am truly sorry for what happened today.”
Fu Yue took the hot tea and shook his head. “Director Pei, you don’t need to apologize. You used an effective method to protect your sister.”
“But I still allowed you to be wronged,” Pei Luomian said, looking at Fu Yue.
“The old head nurse retired, and this Nurse Zhang was a new recruit. Today was her first day of probation. I came here specifically to conduct an inspection. I didn’t expect…” Pei Luomian didn’t finish, but his meaning was clear.
He was frustrated by his oversight during the hiring process.
“It’s good that the problem was discovered in time,” Fu Yue said calmly.
Chen Bai nodded in agreement.
Having finished discussing the sanatorium’s affairs, Pei Luomian shifted the conversation and looked at Fu Yue again.
“Fu Yue,” he called his name. “The maiden voyage ceremony of the Purple Star Moon cruise ship—the island it’s heading to is my father’s property. If you don’t mind, I would like to invite you on board in my private capacity.”
