Chapter 212
Shen Shuyu’s willpower was violently yanked back to reality by the sound of the doorbell. “Wen… Wen Jiafei.”
He forced Wen Jiafei’s name out through his teeth.
He patted Wen Jiafei’s shoulder twice before the other finally let go, looking utterly reluctant.
Shen Shuyu pursed his lips. They felt numb, and even without a mirror, he knew they were swollen.
Wen Jiafei, however, was still looking at him with bright eyes, the thirst within them showing no signs of receding.
Shen Shuyu let out a light cough, trying his best to keep his fraying logic intact. He said, “I’ll go open the door. It should be my dinner.”
No matter how unwilling Wen Jiafei was, he could only stare at Shen Shuyu with puppy-dog eyes for a few moments before finally getting up and heading into the bedroom.
Shen Shuyu straightened his clothes before slowly walking over to open the door. Sure enough, it was a waiter delivering his dinner.
The waiter set the meal down efficiently and left. After seeing him off, Shen Shuyu walked into the bedroom, intending to call Wen Jiafei out to eat. But before he could even get a word out, he was grabbed by Wen Jiafei, who had clearly been lying in wait.
Shen Shuyu felt the world spin for a moment. The next thing he knew, his back was pressed against the wall, and the heavy scent of bitter orange pheromones bore down on him again.
His lips were once more sealed by another’s. Wen Jiafei’s kiss was incredibly passionate, as if he wanted to pour every ounce of his emotion into Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu stopped trying to push his hands away and instead reached up to hook them around Wen Jiafei’s neck.
Forget it.
Shen Shuyu thought dizzily. He would wait until the rut passed before properly “settling the score” with Wen Jiafei.
After the two finished their meal, Shen Shuyu watched as Wen Jiafei walked out of the bathroom. He asked, “You aren’t going back to the room next door?”
Wen Jiafei shook his head. “I’ve already checked out.”
He had only stayed next door because people were watching him back then. Now that the surveillance was gone, he didn’t want to be apart for even a single second.
Shen Shuyu held a syringe of inhibitor in his hand. He tilted his chin up slightly. “Do you want to do it yourself, or do you want me to help you?”
Wen Jiafei looked at the syringe. He had already taken two injections today; taking too many of these wasn’t actually good for the body.
However, he didn’t say much. He simply walked over quietly and extended his arm toward Shen Shuyu. “Go ahead.”
As long as it was something Shen Shuyu gave him, he was more than happy to accept it all.
Shen Shuyu stared at his arm, then shifted his gaze upward. Wen Jiafei looked like an obedient puppy, his expression entirely innocent.
Shen Shuyu began to hesitate. He hadn’t forgotten that Wen Jiafei had already taken two doses today.
But judging by Wen Jiafei’s current state, if he didn’t get an inhibitor shot, Shen Shuyu would probably have to sleep with an “octopus” clinging to his back all night.
Shen Shuyu set the inhibitor aside. “Forget it.”
Wen Jiafei looked at him. Shen Shuyu said, “Taking too many really isn’t good for you.”
Besides, they were partners now. Shen Shuyu had a responsibility to soothe Wen Jiafei.
Wen Jiafei, however, said, “I should still take it. I know you aren’t used to someone being too clingy.”
His voice carried a hint of dejection.
Shen Shuyu’s heart softened further. He was just an Alpha influenced by his rut; what wrong had he done?
Shen Shuyu briskly put the inhibitor back into the drawer. “No need. Couples are supposed to get used to each other.”
He pulled back the quilt and got into bed. “Let’s sleep.”
Only then did Wen Jiafei break into a smile. “Okay.”
He walked to the other side and climbed in as well. Only the nightlight on the bedside table remained on. It was still a bit too early to sleep, so Shen Shuyu thought for a moment and said, “Let’s watch a movie.”
There was actually a projector in the hotel bedroom. The staff had introduced it when Shen Shuyu first checked in, but he hadn’t turned it on once.
“Okay,” Wen Jiafei agreed. He got back out of bed and followed Shen Shuyu’s instructions to turn on the projector.
Shen Shuyu found a mystery thriller. Wen Jiafei leaned quietly against him, enjoying this brief moment of tranquility.
As they watched, Shen Shuyu remarked, “The lead actor is actually quite good-looking.”
Wen Jiafei hurriedly glanced at the screen. His mind was entirely focused on Shen Shuyu; he hadn’t noticed whether the lead was beautiful or ugly at all.
He pursed his lips. The next second, Shen Shuyu added airily, “Of course, Classmate Wen is much better looking.”
The “Classmate Wen” who was about to bristle was instantly soothed. He gave an “Mn.” “You’re the best looking too.”
After obtaining his equity, Wen Jiafei became extremely busy. While Shen Shuyu was still in a groggy half-sleep, he instinctively reached out to hook his arm around the person beside him, only to find the heat source gone. Even the spot where Wen Jiafei had been lying was gradually growing cold.
Shen Shuyu glanced at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It was only seven o’clock.
He blinked his bleary eyes and looked toward the bathroom. The light was on, and faint sounds drifted out; Wen Jiafei was washing up.
Shen Shuyu buried his face back into the soft pillow. A moment later, the sound of running water stopped. Wen Jiafei walked out wearing a sleeveless undershirt, the scent of bitter orange pheromones in the air now carrying a hint of damp moisture.
At a glance, he saw that Shen Shuyu, sleeping in the middle of the bed, had changed his posture—it seemed he had been disturbed. Wen Jiafei moved quietly to the wardrobe, pulled out a set of clothes, and changed. When he turned around, he saw Shen Shuyu sitting up.
“So early?” Shen Shuyu asked.
Wen Jiafei’s ears turned slightly red. He walked over and said, “Mn. There are still some handover procedures to handle. Did I wake you? I’m sorry.”
Shen Shuyu looked at him. After a few words, he was mostly awake. He said, “You, day after day… how can you have so many apologies?”
Wen Jiafei sat on the edge of the bed and leaned in, wanting to kiss him, but Shen Shuyu dodged. He said, “I haven’t washed up yet.”
Wen Jiafei thought for a moment, then dropped a kiss on his cheek instead.
Feeling the warmth on his skin, Shen Shuyu asked, “Do you feel any better today?”
Today was the third day of Wen Jiafei’s rut. Generally speaking, the second day was the most intense; by the third day, the discomfort would gradually recede.
Wen Jiafei said, “Much better.”
Even though he felt better, he still couldn’t resist the urge to be intimate whenever he saw Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu said, “Then are you going to be busy? Will you come back at noon?”
Wen Jiafei shook his head. “I probably won’t be back. There are several meetings today.”
Moreover, Wen Jiafei planned to move his schedule forward. He wanted to return to Amor earlier.
“Okay,” Shen Shuyu said. “I was planning to go out for a stroll today anyway. You work hard, and I’ll have fun.”
He raised both hands and pinched Wen Jiafei’s cheeks. “Keep it up, Classmate Wen.”
Wen Jiafei gave a hum of affirmation, then leaned in closer and pulled him into a hug. He took a deep breath, and only after feeling his lungs fill with the scent of camellia pheromones did he reluctantly let go.
Shen Shuyu patted his shoulder. “Go on. If you don’t leave now, you’ll really be late.”
Wen Jiafei let out a long sigh, stood up, and this time he truly grabbed his things and left.
Shen Shuyu waited for a while. Only after hearing the outer door click shut did he lie back down. However, his sleepiness was gone. He rolled over and called out to the System.
[Master, kissy kissy, huggy huggy.]
The System manifested as two small puppies in Shen Shuyu’s mind, pouncing and rolling around together.
Shen Shuyu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. [What are you doing?]
The System said solemnly, [This System upholds the principle of fairness and justice. Since Master has a lover, I must of course come in pairs too~]
[…You certainly are fair,] Shen Shuyu said helplessly. [Fine. I called you out to ask if there’s any progress on that code.]
[Not yet. This system called ‘Luck’ is hidden much deeper than we imagined. This proves that it must have absorbed a massive amount of energy!]
[Xiao 1 is so angry!] The System huffed. [Once I catch it, I’m definitely going to give it a good beating!]
[Good, good.] Shen Shuyu pondered for a moment. [Actually, this also indirectly proves just how important the person it chose five years ago is to this world.]
The System fell silent for a second. [Yes.]
This also showed how massive the bug in their previous novel world had been. The Master Mind had already begun a comprehensive screening of all novel planes these past few days to prevent another “Luck System” from appearing.
The System asked again, [Master, when will you be going back?]
Shen Shuyu said, [Tomorrow morning. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten what I need to do.]
Shen Shuyu pulled the quilt over his head. He was wondering in his heart: who else could be providing such a massive amount of energy to that Luck System?
