Chapter 222: The Escape Room Invitation
Wen Jiafei was currently at a critical juncture, so Shen Shuyu rarely sent him messages after returning, mainly for fear of distracting him or having the terminal discovered, which could be disadvantageous to Wen Jiafei.
Wen Jiafei knew Shen Shuyu’s concerns, so as soon as he had a moment alone, he would immediately take out his terminal to talk to Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu took a deep breath and sat up from the bed, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly: [Finished with today’s business?]
Wen Jiafei replied quickly: [No, waiting for a meeting. I’m alone right now.]
Shen Shuyu understood: [Hard work. Don’t worry about Auntie; I’m keeping an eye on her for you.]
There was a long pause from the other side before a question came: [Do you miss me?]
Compared to Shen Shuyu asking about other things, he wanted to know if Shen Shuyu missed him.
Shen Shuyu couldn’t help but laugh out loud. He simply placed a video call. Wen Jiafei picked up almost instantly. The camera first focused on his suit before Wen Jiafei adjusted it, bringing his face into view.
There was a smile in his eyes as he asked, “Why did you call me on video?”
Looking at the corners of his mouth that couldn’t help but twitch upward, Shen Shuyu feigned surprise. “Oh, so when someone said they missed me, it was fake. I should probably just hang up then.”
He made a move to disconnect, making Wen Jiafei panic. “I didn’t mean that.”
Shen Shuyu withdrew his hand. Wen Jiafei whispered, “I really do miss you.”
Shen Shuyu tilted his ear toward the screen. “Hmm? What? I couldn’t quite hear what you just said.”
Wen Jiafei cleared his throat, appearing a bit embarrassed, but he still said formally, “I really do miss you.”
This time, Shen Shuyu heard him clearly.
He stared at Wen Jiafei’s face on the screen and noticed the tips of his ears peeking out from behind his hair had turned red.
Shen Shuyu smiled. “Wen Jiafei, when are you coming back?”
The two gazed at each other through the electronic device. Wen Jiafei blinked. “I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
“Okay.” Shen Shuyu rested his elbow on the desk. “Then come back quickly.”
Wen Jiafei asked, “Did something happen?”
He keenly sensed that Shen Shuyu’s mood wasn’t very high. Shen Shuyu was momentarily stunned, wondering how he could be so perceptive, but he quickly replied, “Nothing. It’s just that Yue Cheng-ge was injured. I went to the hospital to look after him and I’m a bit tired.”
“Is Doctor Yue okay?” Wen Jiafei asked with concern. After all, Yue Cheng had helped them a lot while Wen Yue was hospitalized.
“Much better. He could get out of bed today.” Shen Shuyu heard the sound of knocking on Wen Jiafei’s end, likely someone calling him for the meeting.
He said, “Go get to work. When you come back, I’ll tell you everything slowly.”
Wen Jiafei was reluctant to go and didn’t take the initiative to hang up. This was the first time he felt that being in love really made one unwilling to leave their partner.
Shen Shuyu’s eyes curved. “Wen Jiafei, I miss you too.”
Wen Jiafei froze for a second, then pursed his lips. “Mn.”
“So, hurry up and go work,” Shen Shuyu said. “I’m waiting for you in Amor.”
“Okay.”
Only then was he finally willing to hang up the call.
Shen Shuyu took a deep breath and intended to head back to bed, but he discovered a new message had arrived while he was video chatting with Wen Jiafei.
Chi Yanxun: [Shuyu, are you free tomorrow?]
Looking at Chi Yanxun’s message, Shen Shuyu thought it was perfect. He had been wondering what excuse to use to ask Chi Yanxun out, and now he didn’t need one.
He moved his fingers: [I’m free. What’s up?]
Chi Yanxun replied: [A new escape room just opened. A friend gave me some experience tickets. Want to try it together?]
Before Shen Shuyu could reply, another message followed: [You can bring your friends too. If we don’t go, the tickets will go to waste.]
Shen Shuyu pursed his lips: [Okay, I’ll ask Feng Xing to come.]
Chi Yanxun replied with a smiley face.
Shen Shuyu stared at that smiley face for a moment before setting the terminal aside. He lay back on the bed. Tomorrow, he would have to observe carefully to see what exactly was going on with this Chi Yanxun.
The Chi Residence.
Chi Yanxun looked at Shen Shuyu’s message on the screen and expressionlessly tossed his terminal aside. The Luck System in his head had recovered half of its energy after two days of adjustment.
It said: [Luck System: Grasp the opportunity tomorrow. In an environment like an escape room, as long as there is appropriate physical contact, he will surely have thoughts about you again.]
After all, the former Shen Shuyu (Fish) loved him so much.
Chi Yanxun gave a cold sneer: [It better be as you say.]
The Luck System said: [Luck System: There’s no need for you to use that tone with me. We are one; we rise and fall together.]
Chi Yanxun didn’t answer. The Luck System continued: [Luck System: Moreover, you must speed up. The Master Mind has started searching for me. We must be united before it finds me, otherwise… you know the consequences, understand?]
The Luck System had been droning on with these words in Chi Yanxun’s ear for several days. Chi Yanxun was already irritable. Once all this was settled, he was going to drive this system out of his body.
He said, [I know. Go hibernate. You’ll be needed in many places tomorrow.]
Hearing him soften his tone, the Luck System said: [Luck System: Fine. You should prepare well too.]
Once he could no longer sense the trace of the Luck System, Chi Yanxun sat on the edge of the bed and closed his eyes.
Shen Shuyu.
He repeated the name in his mind over and over.
Early the next morning, Shen Shuyu was woken by a house servant knocking on his door. He shuffled over in his slippers. The servant said, “Young Master Feng is here. He is currently waiting for you downstairs.”
Feng Xing arrived this early?
Shen Shuyu replied that he understood. He went back to the room to wash up. Standing at the top of the stairs, he saw Feng Xing making Mother Shen roar with laughter. The atmosphere seemed quite good.
Feng Xing was the first to notice Shen Shuyu. He said, “You’re awake.”
Shen Shuyu walked down quickly. “Why so early?”
“It’s not early,” Feng Xing said. “It’s almost ten o’clock.”
After receiving Chi Yanxun’s invitation, Shen Shuyu had messaged Feng Xing. Coincidentally, Feng Xing had also received experience tickets, but because everyone was busy with New Year preparations even while resting at home, he hadn’t been able to gather enough people.
As soon as he heard Shen Shuyu’s invitation, he immediately agreed. The two had arranged to have lunch together today. Feng Xing said he would drive over to pick him up, and Shen Shuyu had instinctively assumed it would be closer to noon. He had stayed up late thinking until the early morning hours before finally falling asleep.
Mother Shen said, “You didn’t even set an alarm. Xiao Xing has been waiting for you for a long time.”
Feng Xing’s parents were veteran employees of the Shen Group; the couple had essentially fought alongside the Shen parents from the start. They didn’t want high-ranking positions and remained diligent in technical roles their whole lives.
Their relationship with the Shen family had always been good, and since Shen Shuyu and Feng Xing were around the same age, they interacted even more frequently.
Mother Shen thought of Shen Yisi and Yue Cheng; those two had likely developed feelings over a long period. Could it be that Feng Xing and her baby would also…
As her imagination began to run wild, Shen Shuyu asked, “Mom, what are you thinking about?”
Mother Shen snapped back to reality. “Nothing. You guys go play, go play.”
She looked at Feng Xing with a smile. “Xiao Xing, come over more often when you’re free.”
Feng Xing nodded. “Okay, Auntie.”
The two stood up. Shen Shuyu said, “Mom, we’re leaving.”
Feng Xing followed with, “Auntie, I’ll come visit again after the New Year. Goodbye, Auntie.”
Mother Shen sipped her floral tea. “Go on, go on.”
Shen Shuyu and Feng Xing walked to the door. Once they were in the car, Feng Xing said, “Why do I feel like the way Auntie looked at me just now was very strange?”
Shen Shuyu glanced at him and said without changing his expression, “She probably thought your hairstyle is too handsome.”
Feng Xing had spent all of yesterday at the hair salon getting a head of multi-colored hair. As soon as it was done, he had posted photos to his social circle—eighteen posts in a row, each featuring his new hair. It was hard for Shen Shuyu not to see it.
Feng Xing felt gratified by these words. He started the engine. “Not bad, you have good taste. Want to get it done? I can recommend the stylist to you. You’ll get a twenty percent discount if you mention my name.”
Shen Shuyu said, “Thanks, but I don’t really want to do my hair for now.”
He had no interest in being a parrot.
