Chapter 224
The group put on their blindfolds and lined up, each placing a hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them as they walked forward. Lin Xuyi led the way, the two Omegas were positioned in front of Shen Shuyu, and Chi Yanxun, being a step slower than Feng Xing, ended up at the very back of the line.
Chi Yanxun suppressed the displeasure in his heart. He told himself not to worry; once the escape room officially began, he would have plenty of opportunities to be alone with Shen Shuyu.
After the owner arranged everyone into chairs one by one, he spoke. “Please remove your blindfolds.”
Everyone took them off and handed them to the owner. The owner collected Chi Yanxun’s last. Chi Yanxun exchanged a nonchalant glance with him before the owner continued, “I wish everyone a pleasant game.”
He walked out with the blindfolds. The group looked around and realized they were in a classroom.
“Ding-ling-ding-lingâ”
A broadcast rang out in the room, announcing the background story:
“You are students of Tengsi High School. In the eyes of outsiders, Tengsi High is a school with a long history, graduating countless outstanding students every year. However, due to its year-round closed management style, a great deal of bullying has occurred within its walls. Some even say eerie events are unfolding here. You are investigators hired by the school to look into everything. But what you didn’t expect is that there are two traitors among you. Please find the traitors during the game and uncover the truth behind the supernatural events.”
“Dingâlingâding-ling-hiss-hissâ”
The bell rang again. The two Omegas sitting close to each other had already huddled together, looking around piteously. The classroom was very dark, lit only by a faint, ghostly green light that barely allowed them to see their surroundings.
Lin Xuyi, who had played many escape rooms, stood up. “Let’s find the switch. If there are lights, it means they can be turned on.”
As soon as he spoke, Chi Yanxun, who was sitting at the very back, also stood up. “Split up to search. Let’s make it quick.”
The two Omegas had originally intended to go to Chi Yanxun’s side for protection, but they didn’t expect Chi Yanxun to walk directly toward Shen Shuyu, who was not far from him. He said, “Let’s search together.”
Feng Xing’s radar went off. He sidled over and said, “The three of us can go together.”
Chi Yanxun frowned in the dim room. He wanted to refuse, but for a moment, he couldn’t find the words to decline Feng Xingâs suggestion.
“You go with Lin Xuyi and protect them.” Shen Shuyu pointed at the two Omegas. They were practically hanging off Lin Xuyi; his arms were gripped so tightly he couldn’t do anything. He was trying to politely persuade the two Omegas to sit down, but they didn’t dare let go.
Feng Xing withdrew his gaze, thinking Lin Xuyi seemed to be enjoying himself, but then he met Shen Shuyu’s eyes. Shen Shuyu gave him a significant look.
He pursed his lips. “Fine. If you find anything, call me over.”
Feng Xing walked toward Lin Xuyi, and the four-person group finally moved.
Shen Shuyu said, “Let’s get started too.”
He looked at Chi Yanxun. The expression on the Alpha’s face had softened considerably. Just a moment agoâthough he might not have noticed it himselfâthe way he looked at Feng Xing was as if he wanted to tear him into ten thousand pieces.
Chi Yanxun’s mood improved. He gave an “Mn.” “Alright.”
The Luck System had told him that Shen Shuyu was now the world’s Secondary Center. As long as he stayed close to Shen Shuyu, he could obtain some luck. Although it wasn’t much, it was enough to barely supply the system. Once the system recovered further, it could begin its real move.
Chi Yanxunâs peripheral vision remained fixed on Shen Shuyu, sizing him up. In this moment, he realized that Shen Shuyu was actually quite good-looking.
He was wearing a white round-neck sweater today. His hair was slightly long at the back, just enough to cover his gland, but because he was bowing his head, the gland would occasionally be exposed.
Chi Yanxun felt his fangs itching. He hadn’t forgotten that his match rate with Shen Shuyu was as high as ninety percent.
He watched as Shen Shuyu earnestly searched for clues. Chi Yanxunâs gaze fell on his high bridge of the nose and slightly pursed lips, finally resting on the boy’s brow and eyes.
Back when Shen Shuyu was frantically pursuing him, he hadn’t cared what Shen Shuyu looked like; he only found him irritating and unpleasant.
Only now did he realize that Shen Shuyu wasn’t bad-looking at all. He had even supposedly won first place as the Omega “School Grass” this year; many people liked him.
Furthermore, he had started becoming serious, unlike his previous loud and boisterous self. According to Luck, his relationship with Wen Jiafei was unusual.
Chi Yanxun pursed his lips. So what if it’s unusual? Once he became the world’s Secondary Center again, their gazes would inevitably only rest on him.
He lowered his eyes and also began to search diligently. He had to speed up the progress.
He couldn’t wait to become the Secondary Center; he wanted to dominate everything once again.
Shen Shuyu naturally noticed Chi Yanxun’s gaze on him. He didn’t show it on his face; let him look as much as he wanted.
He had thought that after Feng Xing left, Chi Yanxun would immediately try to strike up a conversation, but he didn’t.
Shen Shuyuâs eyelid twitched. He felt as if something bad was about to happen.
The two of them searched for a long while and found some clues, but they couldn’t find the mechanism to turn on the lights.
“Found it!” someone shouted in the dim classroom.
Shen Shuyu turned around. “Let’s go, someone found it.”
Chi Yanxun gave a hum of affirmation. The two walked over to the Omega who had called them over.
The group gathered in front of a painting. The Omega moved the painting aside, revealing a mechanism inside.
The switch was hidden deep within, requiring someone to reach in and flip it. Anyone who had played an escape room knew that in this kind of situation, a “ghost” was bound to appear.
After all, they wouldn’t let them turn on the lights that easily. Lin Xuyi volunteered, “I’ll do it.”
He stepped forward and reached inside. Just as he gripped the switch, he felt someone touch his handâit was wet and cold. Lin Xuyi raised an eyebrow and flipped the switch. With a crisp snap, the classroom lights flickered on.
Lin Xuyi withdrew his hand. “Now we can unlock the way to the next room.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the Omega closest to him screamed, “Your hand! Your hand!”
Lin Xuyi looked down. The hand he had reached in with was dripping with blood. Beside him, Feng Xing swallowed hard and silently moved a step closer to Shen Shuyu. Before he could even open his mouth, he felt someone blowing on his neck. It was ice-cold. Feng Xing instinctively turned his head and said, “Are youâ”
He didn’t finish the word “crazy” before he came face-to-face with a ghostly visage only a few centimeters away.
“Fuck!” Feng Xing couldn’t help but curse, jumping back and hiding behind Shen Shuyu.
The lights went out again. This time, even the green light they had been using to see disappeared. Only the oil lamp on the door remained lit.
“Unbelievable. Why is this escape room so scary?” Feng Xing grumbled.
“How are you even worse than the two Omegas? I didn’t see that coming, Feng Xing,” Lin Xuyi teased.
Shen Shuyu said, “Let’s just go. Let’s get to the next room first.”
He took the lead. Feng Xing immediately followed, claiming he was protecting Shen Shuyu, even though he was the one clutching Shuyu tightly.
Shen Shuyu dragged him forward, saying helplessly, “What are you afraid of?”
“…Who’s afraid? I’m protecting you, aren’t I?” Feng Xing insisted stubbornly. He could handle staying in a dark room, but having that face pressed against his just now was too much; it looked too real.
Shen Shuyu felt his other hand being grabbed as well. He turned his head.
Uh… Chi Yanxun?
Chi Yanxun said with a cold, stiff face, “I’m scared.”
Shen Shuyu was speechless, but he didn’t say anything.
Lin Xuyi protected the two Omegas from the rear. Surprisingly, this door was exceptionally easy to open. Once all six were at the entrance, Shen Shuyu reached out to feel for a light, and the doorway clicked open.
Outside was a corridor.
Just then, the eerie school bell rang again.
“Class is over. Student A and Student C will go to the sports equipment room together. Student B and Student D will go to the music room together. Student E and Student F will go to the art studio together. Please proceed to your assigned classrooms before the start bell. The bell will ring in three minutes. Students who do not reach their classrooms will be punished!”
The broadcast was short and didn’t mention what they were supposed to do once they reached the classrooms.
Lin Xuyi said, “It seems we won’t know what we’re supposed to do until we get there.”
He lifted his hand to check his wrist. Before they had sat down, the owner had given them all wristbands with letters like A, B, C, and D on them. They hadn’t known why at the time, but now it was clearâit was for two-person tasks.
