Chapter 34: The Cub is a Gift from Heaven (Second Update)
Shen Zejue planned to sneak the cub out to play, but when he pushed open the door to the cub’s room, he saw a terrifying scene.
Shen Zejue froze on the spot, unable to believe his eyes.
He stumbled back, hitting the door with a loud thud.
The terrifying gaze of the black tiger shot straight toward him.
Shen Zejue felt his whole body stiffen. An invisible, blade-like airwave surged toward him, like a blood-red, sharp long blade slicing through flesh, bringing a shivering sense of horror.
Shen Zejue straightened his back like a sturdy young sapling, unconsciously clawing at the seams of his pants, and muttered, “Dad.”
Father Shen only gave a faint mm.
“Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing.”
“If there’s nothing, then get out. Don’t wake your brother.”
Shen Zejue ran away as if he had received a great pardon.
Having run far away, Shen Zejue let out a heavy sigh of relief.
After catching his breath, he realized something wasn’t right—why would his dad appear in Bingbing’s room…
Suddenly, Shen Zejue finally reacted and said to himself, “Wait, that’s not right. Shouldn’t Dad be in the Blood Abyss right now? Why is he back, and in the little brother’s room? Could it be that Dad was hungry and wanted to have a midnight snack before going back? Then isn’t he treating Bingbing as a midnight snack?”
Shen Zejue’s face turned white with fright, and he ran back without stopping.
His dad was currently a dangerous element; he shouldn’t have left Bingbing behind.
He was an unfit brother!
Shen Zejue ran back in a flurry.
He didn’t notice that all the servants and guards from before had disappeared. In the entire corridor, only the sound of his own footsteps echoed.
Shen Zejue ran to the door, took a deep breath, and burst through the door again. “Bingbing, Third Brother is here to save…”
Inside the room, Shen Lin was obediently holding out his chubby arms.
Father Shen was frowning, holding a small piece of clothing and measuring it against the cub.
Just as he was feeling frustrated about how to put on the cub’s clothes, Shen Zejue burst in, running straight into the line of fire.
“Number Three, what is wrong with you? Such a big person, acting so flighty. Go stay in the Beast Blood Pool for two hours!”
“I… Dad, I was wrong!”
Shen Zejue apologized smoothly; it was clear he was very resistant to going to the Beast Blood Pool.
The Beast Blood Pool was a replica of the Blood Abyss; who would want to stay there for no reason? He would rather go to the military camp and train for two months.
Shen Zejue didn’t want to go to the Beast Blood Pool, so he dawdled on the spot.
Father Shen studied for a long time and finally helped the cub put on his clothes.
Although his movements were slightly clumsy, at least he got them all on.
While the father and son were being affectionate, the “Husky” Shen over here was scratching his head.
Helping the cub put on the final coat, he smoothed out the wrinkles at the hem.
Father Shen took a step back, feeling good about himself, and nodded in satisfaction.
“Come, Bingbing, let’s go eat.”
Shen Lin jumped down from the stool, placed his chubby hand in Father Shen’s hand, and walked toward the small castle’s dining room.
On the way, he tugged at his collar from time to time, his small brows furrowing slightly.
Father Shen didn’t notice the cub’s discomfort.
Shen Zejue, who had originally planned to slip away, couldn’t help but frown upon seeing this.
After hesitating again and again, Shen Zejue still stepped forward quickly and unbuttoned the top button of the cub’s clothes.
Seeing his small brows unfurl, Shen Zejue also let out a sigh of relief.
However, he was destined to let out that sigh too early.
Father Shen was staring at him like a tiger watching its prey.
Shen Zejue stuttered for a bit and finally found the words to explain: “The button was too tight…”
After a dry explanation, under his dad’s increasingly dangerous gaze, he greased his feet and slipped away.
Father Shen looked at Number Three’s receding back and said, “At least he acts somewhat like a brother.”
Unfortunately, Shen Zejue didn’t hear this rare word of praise.
The next day, Shen Zejue came back sneakily.
Father Shen couldn’t show his face often; he had left yesterday after spending a moment of warmth with the little cub.
Shen Zejue only came over after hearing that Father Shen wasn’t around.
Seeing the little cub squatting by the landscaping tree, he immediately walked over. His voice arrived before he did: “Bingbing, do you want to go out and play?”
Shen Lin’s small ears twitched. He looked up immediately, staring at him with big apricot eyes.
Shen Zejue’s heart softened at the sight.
His hand unconsciously reached for the cub’s fluffy head.
The soft and smooth pink fur felt exceptionally good to the touch.
Shen Zejue couldn’t put it down and gave it two more rubs, letting go of the cub’s hair with lingering affection.
The moment his hand left the cub’s hair, the head of pink fur immediately exploded.
The little cub gave him a look of condemnation.
Shen Zejue felt awkward being stared at.
One moment he was rubbing the back of his head, the next he was tugging at the landscaping plants.
Shen Lin pulled a small comb out of his pocket, trying to comb his hair smooth.
However, the pink fur that became obedient and submissive in the head maid’s hands became exceptionally rebellious in the hands of its owner, Shen Lin.
The pink fur that was pressed down would scatter with a dang-dang the next moment.
The pink fur looked like a sea urchin, with its “teeth and claws” bared.
Shen Zejue suppressed his laughter and stepped forward to help.
But!
Why was the cub’s hair so hard to manage, ahhh…
Shen Zejue felt that combing the cub’s hair was harder than fighting.
With great difficulty, he finished combing it, yet a single strand of hair still stubbornly swayed on top of his head.
Shen Zejue wiped away a bead of sweat. “It’s done.”
Shen Lin wanted to reach out to check, but was stopped by Shen Zejue’s quick hands.
Shen Zejue’s eyes darted around as he said, “Bingbing, you haven’t been out to play yet, right? Let me tell you, it’s really fun outside…”
He made playing outside sound incredibly exciting, successfully diverting the cub’s attention.
Shen Lin suddenly thought of something. He ran pitter-patter into his room and then ran back, stuffing the empty candy box into Shen Zejue’s arms. His milky voice softly let out a single word.
“Candy~”
Shen Zejue looked at the empty candy box in his hand and clicked his tongue: “You ate them all?”
Shen Lin nodded seriously: “Mm-hmm~”
Seeing the cub’s expectant look, Shen Zejue nodded: “Alright, let’s go buy candy!”
Shen Lin reached out: “Hold~”
Shen Zejue picked up the fragrant and soft cub, let out a grin of white teeth, and tossed the cub into the air a bit. “Let’s go!”
“Ge-ge…”
The youth’s silver hair fluttered as he sprinted out like a gust of wind, leaving behind only a string of the cub’s soft, milky laughter.
A’mei, who had rushed over upon hearing the news, only saw the backs of the two.
It was the experienced butler, Uncle Chen, who intercepted the two young masters at the gate early on.
Seeing Uncle Chen, Shen Zejue thought the hope of taking his brother out to play had been dashed, and he hung his head dejectedly.
If anyone else had stopped him, he wouldn’t have cared at all.
After all, the adults in charge of the house weren’t around.
As the saying goes, when the tiger is away, the monkeys rule the mountain—he, Shen Number Three, was the king of the Shen house today!
Kidnapping his little brother—no one could stop him.
Unexpectedly, the plan had just begun to be implemented when it met a roadblock in Uncle Chen.
Uncle Chen had watched him grow up since he was small; no matter how arrogant Shen Zejue was, he wouldn’t dare act out in front of Uncle Chen.
Uncle Chen really did hit children.
Having suffered before, Shen Zejue didn’t plan to head-butt his way through.
Uncle Chen looked at the Third Young Master, who was lively and active just a moment ago but now looked like a wilted eggplant, and wanted to laugh.
Wearing a tuxedo, Uncle Chen stood there like an elegant gentleman.
He reached out and took something from a servant’s tray, stepped forward, and buckled it onto the cub’s wrist.
Shen Lin looked down at what looked like a watch, yet was different from a watch from the apocalypse. The dial was inlaid with an obsidian energy stone, forming a small Bagua disk.
The exterior looked like the teeth of some animal, polished smooth on the inside, inlaid with one plump, crystal-clear energy stone after another. In the center of the dial was a meticulously carved pattern of a long-tailed, sharp-eared, round-bodied, and adorable red panda.
Shen Lin recognized at a glance that the red panda in the dial was himself.
He touched it curiously.
The next second, a flash of light went by.
A high-grade energy gun fully loaded with energy appeared in the cub’s hand.
Because the energy was full, the gun was slightly heavy; it actually felt a bit burdensome in his hand.
Without paying attention, he accidentally pressed the firing button.
A piercing azure light, following a hum, shot out, grazing Shen Zejue’s scalp.
Boom!
A large hole was blasted in the wall, with countless crushed stones falling.
Robots hearing the commotion gathered quickly, their “hands and feet” agilely repairing the damage.
Shen Zejue touched his slightly hot hair and couldn’t help but bare his teeth.
“Uncle Chen, this thing’s destructive power is too strong. Giving it to Bingbing just like that—isn’t it a bit too exaggerated?”
“Exaggerated? I don’t think so.”
Uncle Chen then explained: “This is a new space watch made by the mechanical master hired by the Shen family. It can not only hold objects but also automatically protect its owner. I’m just showing the Young Master how to use the space watch; as for the things inside, they are all just for the Young Master’s amusement—they don’t count for much. Furthermore, if anyone intends to harm the Young Master, whether they are killed or injured, they brought it upon themselves!”
Shen Zejue nodded, feeling that Uncle Chen had a point.
His dad was an interstellar War God.
His brother was a Lieutenant General.
His sister was a Councilor.
With a family lineup like theirs, they couldn’t even protect a single cub?
Then they might as well do nothing and go to the Blood Abyss to wait for death.
“The Young Master’s body is weak; what’s wrong with preparing a few more defensive weapons for him?” Uncle Chen said seriously.
He helped the cub straighten his slightly wrinkled clothes and then gently touched his small face.
Uncle Chen’s hands were very rough, with thick calluses; they felt a bit prickly on his skin.
Shen Lin looked up at the old man who was smiling, with many wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, and didn’t reject the other’s touch.
Shen Lin proactively tilted his head, his chubby cheek pressing against Uncle Chen’s palm.
The hardness of the calluses on the pad of the finger that was missing a segment under his cheek—he felt the old man’s emotions full of loving care for him, and a small part deep in his heart was touched.
His new family’s heartache for him was mixed with guilt.
The head maid A’mei and those servants took care of him with great caution.
Uncle Chen’s love and concern were like he was treating his own grandson.
Possessing healing abilities, Shen Lin was exceptionally sensitive to the emotions of external organisms.
Because the emotions he received were mixed and cluttered, he was initially resistant.
In the apocalypse, the ugliness of human nature—Shen Lin endured various disgusting and loathsome emotions almost every moment.
The “white coats” who observed him in the research institute had once lamented that this was a “gift from heaven.”
Shen Lin wanted to laugh.
Because it was a “gift from heaven,” he deserved to be sold and traded by his parents at will for the sake of survival?
Now he closed his eyes and felt the emotions coming from Uncle Chen; a slight curve appeared on his lips.
Shen Lin thought—perhaps “gift from heaven” really was a unique gift the heavens had given him.
